This is a small local place that I've been wanting to try for a long time. They have plenty of parking, but there are always cars at this restaurant. The ambiance is lively with music playing. I was there to get an order to go. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The woman who took my order told me upfront that she spoke very little English. However, she was able to successfully take my order and it was exactly what I wanted. I ordered the Mexicano burrito with the meat changed to carne asada. It was good and full of flavor with a bit of heat from the salsas that topped it. The cheese dip and chips were great and did not disappoint. This is a great little place that primarily caters to the neighborhood. There are other items I hope to try on my next visits. read more

We decided to stop for a margarita and some salsa on Sunday after Indy. We waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. They lead us to a booth in the furthest corner of the restaurant. On one side sat an air conditioner only it wasn't in the window. It was literally blowing while sitting on the booth bench. This bench was missing a large piece of wood. But we sat even though we had to be careful of the hole and accept we would be sharing our dinner with the air conditioner. And we sat. And we sat. After 40 min of no acknowledgement from any of the staff my husband tackled a waiter in search of anything cold to drink. Again they disappeared. The waiters would go out of their way to avoid any type of eye contact. Perhaps this booth was only used for storage and no one would claim it. We had to lasso any breathing human for service. All of them were very friendly and apologetic yet some how they all managed to disappear never to return. We never received any chips and salsa or water. But every table around us were requesting refills. It was as if we didn't exist. Finally we received our margaritas. All I can say is they were some type of liquid. The color was neon green and so sweet that my teeth were begging me to stop drinking. I ordered a burrito which was delicious. My husband ordered quesadilla and it was also delicious. My tip to anyone is if you visit LaCostenita and they try to seat you in the corner on a bench with missing wood and an air conditioner please decline and save yourself from falling in the unknown black hole of LaCostenita. read more

Fun little hole in the wall that has good food for an even better price. I got three cheese enchiladas with rice and beans to go so I could eat at home. Absolutely delicious. My only concern would have been translation problems (my Spanish sucks and some restaurants in my area don't speak much English) but that turned out to be absolutely no problem because there was at least one native English speaker. Very new. The dining area was recently remodeled and immaculately clean. It's a large dining area. I was one of only 2 customers from about 12:30 to 1:00pm. The men's room was very very clean, recently remodeled. But it was not a professional remodeling job, which is sort of typical at this style of Mexican restaurants. So that sort of stood in contrast to the impressive dining area. (Impressive in relation to what you normally expect at small authentic Mexican places.) There were two large screen tv's in the dining area. There was an all electronic touch-screen juke box on the wall, with mostly, but not entirely, Spanish-language music. $.50 per single play. Waitress spoke English well. The plastic-encased menu is bi-lingual. The chips and salsa served up front were excellent. My chicken salad was EXCELLENT! Juicy grilled chicken breast strips served on very fresh shredded lettuce with fresh tomatoes and really good avocados. I ordered a side of guacamole which was also excellent. They serve beer (and maybe wine, but not sure.) The beer signage was minimal, so it's family friendly. This place will probably not last long because of the bad location. But if you're reading this, trust me, if you've got a hankerin' for Mexican food, this is definitely worth the 8 block drive here if you are otherwise travelling along West 38th, or Lafayette Road, or High School Road, or Georgetown, or West 16th or Crawfordsville Road. Man, I love discovering places like this. I hope the Indy 500 or Brickyard 400 traffic is enough to sustain them. read more

The waitresses are scamming here beware. I went here with friends and we ordered food and 2 buckets of Coronas also 2 cups of clamato juice so after the waitress had taken everything away and a long time had passed, we asked for the bill, we were being charge for 3 buckets and 6 clamato juice and we def got to letting the waitress know about the confusion and she denied and went back to the cashier and then she sent different waiter to try to convince us we were wrong and that we had to pay the bill and we definitely let them know that we were not going to and then the lady left and sent another waitress so then we said no and went to the cashier instead and ended up paying what we originally ordered. I saw the same type of movements going on with other tables. They are trying their best to scam people that get drinks cause they assume we'll be too drunk to realize!! read more

Place was empty (& I mean EMPTY) when I was there, which was about 3pm on a Monday. When I walked in I was greeted by a male server (in Spanish), and when he realized I didn't speak Spanish, he asked me, "for here or to-go?". I chuckled and said, "Here, please". He seated me and I ordered a beverage. He asked me if I was ready to order like 30 seconds later and I replied that I needed a couple more minutes, and asked if I could get some chips & salsa. Not more than 2 minutes later he returned with chips & salsa, & asked if I was ready to order. I ordered the chicken nachos. When he brought the food out, he asked if I was finished with the chips & salsa lol. I asked him kindly if he could leave them. Bathrooms were ok. While I was there, two other customers entered the restaurant. The server asked if they knew what they wanted to order within 30 seconds of seating them. He definitely needs some guidance & finesse. With good service, this place could be amazing. Without it, customers will be driven away. These things aside, the food was really good. So I came to this restaurant with my friend, literally they got my first drink wrong, okay cool you know, also however I'm still gonna drink it no problem. They got our order wrong twice after we waited like 45 mins for the first one to come out, okay yeah we get it cooks make mistakes but after that the server just disappears and send her coworker to come take care of us. I have to go up to the host stand/check out to order our drinks, Our server in the pink just walked by our table not asking us if wanted more drinks. I've worked in the service industry for a while, I would never do this to my tables. The place was not even busy. Server In purple you did such a great job!!!! There was a decent variety of food options to try, with seafood being their specialty. I ordered this up which had a mix of mussels, clams, crab legs, scallops, calamari and lobster. It was steaming hot and cooked in a hot sauce that was very tasty, though some might find it really spicy. Went here with 3 other gals on a Saturday night (4/2/16) about 8:30-9 pm. LOUD Karaoke musical in Spanish (didn't mind that) but waitress didn't know menu when we asked questions and was rude. Finally ordered but my meal was not what I ordered (wanted cheese enchiladas but got chicken) so when I sent it back, another waitress came over and said I would be charged for both then. (The music was so loud so the first server might have misheard me but the others at my table clearly heard me say cheese.). Needless to say, I didn't get cheese enchiladas and left hungry. We ordered nachos. Apparently the kitchen was out of cheese sauce so they just threw some shredded cheese on top of the tortilla chips and didn't even bother to melt it. The waitress spent most of her time talking with her co-workers while our drinks were empty. It was very obvious our business was not wanted. I went in this place decor is great the service was pretty good. Went to the restroom and there was roaches crawing around confronted with this they told me "We dont have roaches" Then they told me someone was coming to get rid of the roaches. Trust me they have roaches. Ive called the Health department and I would stay away. By the way I did pay for my food because that was what they were worried about.
