Stopped here a few weeks ago for a quick drink while waiting for dinner reservations across the street at Carnal. Big open bar with lot of seating, good sized menu and quick service. They did have a good amount of water on the floor inside not sure if they had a leak from the recent rains. Opted to order the California love and the Kiwi me softly- both great, fair prices, and good amount of alcohol too. Overall cool spot to check out in highland park!

My friend told me back in the day they called this bar the bat cave. It used to be decorated with Batman memorabilia. The dark interior gives it a nice calm vibe and they play music which isn't too loud where you can still talk to your fellow drinkers. The bartender was great and kept up with all the drink orders with speedy service. Check out the happy hour drink specials that are on the chalkboard.

Great ambience, yummy drinks, good music, plus you're allowed to drink food in if their kitchen is closed.

Great dive bar. Fun vibes, attentive staff, all that you need to enjoy your cocktail with your friends. Neighborhood feel fun crowd too. On my return list.

Strong drinks. HH 3pm/5pm until 8pm. $4 PBR, $7 wells (don't recommend cocktails/get Wells), no food. Dogs on leash allowed within the patio area and not the bar. Passed by ETA HH, here for last HH drinks, before finally landing into The Lodge Room to watch an 8pm show. Love the drink prices here. Not my scene but there people here indoors and the outdoor patio area. Revisted old highland park stomping grounds before hitting up The Lodge Room. This place is still a local watering hole of divey, comfort feel of mid 2010s of highland park. Nothing too special but just old charm, and strong drinks. Kinda like 4100 bar Silverlake back in the days except drinks aren't as good? Don't get an old fashioned or such....it's a divey bar bar, so a wells drinks or neat to on rocks are best.

OVERALL: fun bar with good deals. Can't say it looks like a cave but it is very dark in there! The bar is huge - there is back patio, two indoor areas, and the bar. Apparently on Thursdays they have a burlesque show. That night they also had someone selling slides in the back. Im not sure if that's a regular thing but it was a great add!

    Larger bar area room inside.

Night time MTA bar crawl continues in Highland Park: we just landed at LA Cuevitas. Sitting at the bar and just started with a Bloodflower margarita made with mezcal and dried small flowers.. Sexy looking drink in a small margarita/martini glass. It's sweet, tangy . The dried flowers have no real taste but look good. Love the open old wooden beamed ceiling. It's a slow night just like the joint we just left...Footsies' but a good late night crowd. Classic 80's and 90's music on the PA. Sho' am good too !

Crazy Saturday night! It was due to our friend's birthday party. We got there around 6 pm and only one bartender. He was awesome, attentive and kept up with everyone's requests. Fun little place, would recommend more vodka options though.

I remember a time when the only bar on Figueroa in Highland Park was a dive called The Cave (prior to that it was called something else). It was a bit rough, and I may have stopped by once or twice. Eventually the neighborhood changed, and The Cave was purchased by 1933 Group (Formosa Café, Idle Hour, Highland Park Bowl...) and was transformed into an Old-World Mexican grotto that is now known as La Cuevita. La Cuevita's craft cocktails feature traditional agave spirits. The bar carries an impressive selection of tequilas and mezcals in addition to craft beer, RTDs, and your standard stiff well drinks. They have daily Happy Hour specials and free tacos on Tuesday out on the patio. Since it's a few blocks from my house it's an easy walk. Tonight, I was here to celebrate a friend's birthday. He works at a local bar (The Offbeat), which is owned by Todd who used to work at La Cuevita in the early days. My friend had an Allagash, and I started with The Blind Pear (Tanteo Habanero Tequila, Lime Juice, Prickly Pear, Rose Water). It was pretty & delicious. The Habanero Tequila provided just the right amount of heat, which was nicely balanced by the sweetness of the Prickly Pear. For our second round my friend had a Jameson neat, and I tried the La Day's Eye (Tanteo Blanco Tequila, Agave, Lime Juice, Montenegro Amaro, Rose water). It was also particularly good. La Cuevita is a cool neighborhood bar where the local's come to hang. Even though there are now a number of great drinking establishments in Highland Park, I like to come here when I want a lo-key night out.

This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We were told seating was first come, first served, so when a table opened up outside, our group of five sat down while part of our group went inside to order. Shortly after ordering multiple drinks and several plates of food, another staff member came to our table and began yelling at us, threatening to kick us out for being "rude" to staff, even though we had done nothing but order our food and drinks. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching other guests openly smoking weed while staff said nothing, yet our group felt watched, accused, and singled out the entire time.
