California love and kiwi me softly

Stopped here a few weeks ago for a quick drink while waiting for dinner reservations across the street at Carnal. Big open bar with lot of seating, good sized menu and quick service. They did have a good amount of water on the floor inside not sure if they had a leak from the recent rains. Opted to order the California love and the Kiwi me softly- both great, fair prices, and good amount of alcohol too. Overall cool spot to check out in highland park!

    Yummy

Great ambience, yummy drinks, good music, plus you're allowed to drink food in if their kitchen is closed.

My friend told me back in the day they called this bar the bat cave. It used to be decorated with Batman memorabilia. The dark interior gives it a nice calm vibe and they play music which isn't too loud where you can still talk to your fellow drinkers. The bartender was great and kept up with all the drink orders with speedy service. Check out the happy hour drink specials that are on the chalkboard.

Great dive bar. Fun vibes, attentive staff, all that you need to enjoy your cocktail with your friends. Neighborhood feel fun crowd too. On my return list.

OVERALL: fun bar with good deals. Can't say it looks like a cave but it is very dark in there! The bar is huge - there is back patio, two indoor areas, and the bar. Apparently on Thursdays they have a burlesque show. That night they also had someone selling slides in the back. Im not sure if that's a regular thing but it was a great add!

    Larger bar area room inside.

Night time MTA bar crawl continues in Highland Park: we just landed at LA Cuevitas. Sitting at the bar and just started with a Bloodflower margarita made with mezcal and dried small flowers.. Sexy looking drink in a small margarita/martini glass. It's sweet, tangy . The dried flowers have no real taste but look good. Love the open old wooden beamed ceiling. It's a slow night just like the joint we just left...Footsies' but a good late night crowd. Classic 80's and 90's music on the PA. Sho' am good too !

Crazy Saturday night! It was due to our friend's birthday party. We got there around 6 pm and only one bartender. He was awesome, attentive and kept up with everyone's requests. Fun little place, would recommend more vodka options though.

Drinks: Really, really good. My absolute favorite was the boat drink with foam on top, but we split several others and I liked everything we tried. Vibe: Unmatched. There are several drinks on the menu with a theatrical presentation that gets the whole bar involved. The space is small, so you'll inevitably have your conversation interrupted by an alluring siren's call or some ceremonial rowers. This is a crucial part of the tiki experience for me. Tiki cocktails have expanded beyond rum into smokier tequila and mezcal drinks, which are more my speed. Lucky Tiki takes planning. You'll probably need a reservation weeks ahead and yes, they'll politely kick you out after 2 hours. These drinks are delicious and designed to ruin your decision-making skills. Worth it. Uber home, obviously. This spot is "hidden" in a bowling alley, and inside you'll find retro lighting and decor and tiki cocktails. One drink came with bubbles, another arrived flaming, and one to a soundtrack of thunder and lightning. It's part cocktail bar, part performance, and the staff is committed to the bit. They have two LA locations, which helps if one is booked.

As a I grew up in Highland Park I took my wife to visit The Arroyo Club bar to celebrate her recent promotion after the bar was recommended to us by a close friend. We were looking forward to a fun evening and decided to participate in the trivia game being hosted that night. After receiving an answer sheet from the host, Matt, my wife and I began playing. The trivia topic was based on an older television show that we were unfamiliar with, and we initially used our phones to look up answers. A male individual approached us and informed us that using our phones was considered cheating. We accepted that explanation, stopped using our phones, and continued playing. Later in the evening, I observed bartender Justin speaking with the same individual and appearing to provide him with answers. When I questioned how that was different from what we had been told not to do, Justin stated that it was not cheating because they were part of a group. I responded that it was only a game and not a serious issue, especially considering my wife and I had only accumulated a few points. At that point, the interaction became uncomfortable. Justin informed the host that my wife and I should be disqualified for cheating, despite the fact that we had stopped using our phones when instructed. The employee who had originally confronted us also became increasingly confrontational, which my wife and I found intimidating. I later asked another bartender, Zach, what the concern was, and he explained that the winning prize was $50. While I understand the importance of maintaining fair rules, the way the situation was handled felt unnecessarily hostile and embarrassing. What made the experience even more disappointing was that we appeared to be the only minority guests present at the time, and we observed other patrons using their phones without being confronted. This left us feeling singled out and unwelcome. My wife attempted to discuss how the situation made us feel with a female bartender who had blue hair. Unfortunately, her reaction appeared dismissive, and our concerns did not seem to be taken seriously. As we prepared to leave, the employee who had initially confronted us remained nearby staring in our direction, which further contributed to our discomfort. For reference, we were seated at the right corner of the bar if you were facing the bar from the front. I am not seeking compensation. Rather, I hope management will review the events of that evening, including any available security footage and discussions with staff members present. No guest should leave feeling targeted, embarrassed, or unwelcome while simply trying to enjoy a night out celebrating a special occasion.

I tried the Goldliner, Japanese Old Fashioned and Nitro Espresso Martini and they were all delicious and well balanced. The bartenders are all really cool and service was pretty quick. We were told seating was first come, first served, so when a table opened up outside, our group of five sat down while part of our group went inside to order. Shortly after ordering multiple drinks and several plates of food, another staff member came to our table and began yelling at us, threatening to kick us out for being "rude" to staff, even though we had done nothing but order our food and drinks. What made it even more uncomfortable was watching other guests openly smoking weed while staff said nothing, yet our group felt watched, accused, and singled out the entire time. As the only Latino group sitting outside, the experience left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and discriminated against.
