We've always loved Goldfish--the atmosphere is great, the drinks are good, and honestly, the food has been really good too. That's why what happened today was so disappointing. While I was in the women's restroom, I saw a woman use the bathroom and walk out without washing her hands. What made it even worse was that I realized she was part of the kitchen staff. I'm sorry, but that is absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable for someone handling food. Knowing that someone from the kitchen is using the restroom and not washing their hands makes me question the cleanliness and food safety practices behind the scenes. It's really sad because we genuinely enjoyed coming here, but after seeing that, I personally won't be returning for food. I really hope management addresses this. read more

We were in Highland Park on a Sunday morning trying to hit that viral Korean breakfast burrito spot, but the line was crazy. Decided to just walk down York and find something else. Ended up at The Goldfish and walked into a spot that instantly felt like we weren't in LA anymore. Place really leans into that Thailand vibe. Nick was behind the bar and was super cool. Walked us through the menu, gave a few drink recs, and just made it easy. While waiting, we took a lap around the place and checked everything out. Tons of little details everywhere. You can tell someone really put thought into it. Nick mentioned the owner actually goes to Thailand often and brings stuff back for the restaurant, which makes sense once you see the space. There was one cook in the back handling everything and bringing plates out fresh. Food came out hot and honestly hit. We ordered the steak pad see ew, chicken fried rice, fried shrimp rolls, and drinks. No complaints. Glad the burrito line was long or we probably wouldn't have found this spot. The kitchen is equally impressive--just one guy running the Sticky Rice setup when we stopped by on a relaxed Sunday afternoon, and the food was incredible. We ordered: - crispy shrimp rolls - pad see ew with beef - Thai fried rice. Every bite was spot on. Drinks were equally solid! Alex recommended the Thai chili mezcalita (new favorite!), plus I had a classic old fashioned and an ice-cold IPA. Everything hit the spot. This is a place you'll likely never forget. Before any alcohol enters your system, this kind of time warped neon-lit dive bar feels like a fever dream. The checkered dance floor, strange Thai paraphernalia on every inch of the walls, shrunken heads and dim, trippy lighting set the perfect scene for a night that could go in any direction. It's got just the right vibe, the kind of place where you can get kicked in the face by a Thai chili margarita or catch waves with my favorite drink: surfer on ketamine. Then you can catch a live set from a band you've probably never heard of but will likely be popular in a few months, and end up shooting pool with them later on. Drinks are solid, well executed. If hunger hits, there's a window serving delicious Thai bites. The crowd is a mix of locals, musicians, pool sharks, and people who know where to find a good time without the gate-keeper-influencer nonsense places like "tenants" enforce. I always meet the most eclectic range of unique souls and not just wannabe Hollywood grunge with designer clothes, sailor tattoos, and frosted tips. It's loud, it's unpolished in the best way, and it inspires that timeless "where the heck are we" feeling. I was excited when Goldfish first opened, but a little bummed when I discovered they only served beer & wine. I recently heard rumors that they now have a full bar, so I had to check it out! The place was also remodeled, and I like the changes. It has a more relaxed vibe and laid-back atmosphere. There are two pool tables, a juke box, a claw machine, and booths where you can enjoy your drink or eats from Sticky Rice. The music venue is now separated by double doors. I was happy to discover that Tromba Tequila is their well and since I was still celebrating National Margarita Day, I requested the Thai Chili Margarita with Tromba. Marcela was happy to oblige. She even offered me some complimentary popcorn. The margarita was tasty and perfect for the lovely warm weather that graced So Cal in February. There was a singer doing their thing through the back doors but I was busy playing pool at $3 a game and not paying attention. I found this place a few weeks ago and have been back three times since. You have to know it's there since there's not great signage at street level, but it's an absolute gem. Inside you'll find thai themed decor, thai food and beer, as well as tiki drinks, full bar, pool tables, videogames and pinball machines. It's a diverse crowd, but I suspect that a lot of the younger crowd are from the nearby Occidental College. Super friendly, super fun, great atmosphere. read more

Luckily each of the areas kind of has its own section so it doesn't seem like the bar is having an identity crisis. However, you can have the Thai food delivered directly to the bar. This place is AWESOME! The fish tank is so entertaining to watch all the gold fish swimming around as you drink some sake at the bar. There's a huge neon lava lamp at the bar which was a cool touch. I love all the neon glow ball lights on the walls and the huge disco ball on the square black and white dance floor decorated with diner seats to keep the theme of nostalgia, retro, and funk. Love the DJ playing some old school house and dance music! The barkeeper Saturday night was very nice and kept the bar pristine serving us our sweet sake. I had a great time at this bar with friends. The aesthetic of the place rocks. It's cozy and cool. Live music was great as were the arcade games. I'm writing to mention I'm concerned about the well-being of the fish. I'm sure it sounds stupid, but when I asked the bartender if they name the fish, one of the bartenders pretty rudely replied that they die all the time so they're always getting new ones (thus they don't name them). Additionally, this same bartender was pretty rude to my friends throughout the night, both before and after I asked about the fish. That was a negative for the evening.
