The boyfriend and I love coming here for a date night. We usually get a pitcher (or two!) of their sangria and their fruit and cheese plate and sit back and listen to whatever band is playing that night. We have been back many times and will continue to frequent this place! Not impressed. The margherita pizza seriously tasted like a frozen pizza, in fact I'm fairly positive that's exactly what it was, especially considering it arrived so soon after ordering. The diosita salad was decent, but far overpriced for a few spring greens, a mediocre balsamic dressing, and some feta crumbles. This is obviously Lubbock's idea of exotic food. I will try not to be too compromised by my business relationship to McPherson Cellars. We flew out to Lubbock for the day to taste some wine with Kim McPherson. I had not been to Lubbock in 18 years and had no idea what to expect. We had lunch at La Diosa and it was truly a great experience. We had the kitchen bring out a number of tapas. There were Albondigas, smoked oysters, crab cakes, smoked salmon- all very well done. The standouts had to be the gazpacho with crab meat and the sardines in oil and garlic. I have lived in the Mediterranean so I'm suspect of places in West Texas who claim they make food of that region. La Diosa isn't lying. Their food is full of great, authentic flavor. I am so so pleased. I had a glass of the Garancha wine and it was perfectly dry with very subtle fruit notes. Love love love. A friend had a glass of Bella Rosa that was a perfect rosé, not a disgusting sweet swill like sorority girls are notorious for drinking, but sweetish and bright. This place has been in my bookmarks forever, and I'm so glad we came tonight. I had the escargot tapa and the garlic sauce on it was Delightful. Escargot has been on my bucket list for a hot minute, I loved it. It was complex and interesting. A dining partner got Marina, a shrimp tapa and it was also very good and smartly seasoned. For our main courses we got Diego's Torta, the tomato bisque, their Clásico Caprese, and risotto. The only thing I didn't try was the risotto, but it all smelled heavenly. Diego's Torta is a lot of meat, but incredible quality charcuterie. The tomato bisque is maybe a bit strong to have a whole bowl of, but so very flavorful. I had the Clásico Caprese and though it was simple, it was well done. We also had some sort of rich chocolate torte that was decadent and fabulous. I plan to come back and bring friends. read more

Every time I come here, I leave so happy. The hummus trio this time was my favorite. While the beet hummus may seem like an obvious front runner, the true star is the basil mint combo. Save yourself the trouble and go ahead and order the pitcher of Sangria. It goes down so easy, you won't even realize you've had 4 glasses. Some other favorites are the besitos, the empanadas, and the general ambiance. A couple tips- the service can be a little slow, so order enough to keep you occupied for a while. Additionally, they do live music which is always so good! But they will add $10 to your tab if you stay to watch it, so go early to save some dough. Forget about thirsty Thursday, it's all about the Tuesdays!! I love this place for their sangria and tapas and atmosphere. I'm so glad Lubbock has a place like this one! Their pitchers are a must, so good!!! And depending on your appetite/budget they have a great selection for that as well. Wow. This place never fails to impress me. It's been around for a while and practically everyone knows about it. Reviewing it feels slightly cliche, so I'll give what perspective I have. The only thing on the menu I order is tapas. The portions are small, but the quality makes it worth the money. The Sangria is fantastic (and ridiculously cheap on Tuesdays). What can I possible say about this place to express the delight, and whimsy me and my family experienced! As soon as you enter your eyes are met with an explosion of colors and eclectic decor. Atmosphere is tops. Now the food. JUST WOW. Honestly, we had probably all the dishes on the menu so I can't just pick one, but trust me when I say it's a flavor bomb after another. You will not be disappointed and this has to be said, but their in house sangria is to die for. Please grab a bottle when you come it'll elevate your meal to the 10th level. Lastly, but definitely not least our server Mackenzie went above and beyond. She was so knowledgeable and welcoming it was the cherry on top to our visit. La Diosa is my go-to wine place. The $10 sangria pitcher on Tuesdays is a steal and tastes great! I've also had various red wines that are always amazing (though pricier). The queso was not as liquid as I expected but was still good. The Hearts Delight pizza was AMAZING. I had it the last time I went and will probably make it my regular food dish. I don't always get food and when I do it's usually dessert. I highly recommend the creme brûlée and the chocolate cake. Know that it is in the pricier end but they are both worth the splurge. Especially if you're saving by ordering a $10 sangria pitcher (regularly $15). The live music as really fun! A friend of mine, Andy Hedges, plays regularly with Andy Wilkinson on Tuesdays and I enjoy coming out to see them. Other times I have been in on Tuesdays (or weekends) and the music has been so loud that I could barely think. Even when sitting in the back of the back room. The atmosphere is everything. It is so cozy and quaint. They have random racks of home decor items for sale (way more than I could afford) that I wish I could fill my house with. On busy nights I have had trouble getting attentive service in the past. It seems like they have been understaffed sometimes. Other times I think they saw a table of younger girls who weren't dressed fancy and assumed they wouldn't need much and would just be drinking sangria (it took an hour for him to finally come get our dinner order once). Portions of food are usually smaller than I would expect for that price. I could be full on anything but the pizza alone. It's definitely a fun girls night or date night but I could imagine making it a regular place due solely to the price and portion difference. Definitely check it out though! One of the better places in Lubbock to listen to some downtempo live music and kick back. Their sangria is the best in town (and sold by the pitcher!) and they have some great tapas and other fancy bites. It's a tad bit pricey for the portion sizes, but the food is definitely worth it. Grab the Spanish omelet (also called Tortilla, but it's not a tortilla like the kind we throw at football games). It's delicious and filling. We love Tuesday nights because there's usually live music, and the sangria is often at a discount. Sometimes they charge a cover, but it's worth it to see and support some good local talent. read more

The wine is reasonable, the sangria a favorite among most people I know, but you might as well be alone if there's a band playing. All the cool atmosphere withers under the aural onslaught of whatever band is playing that night. It's not even that the music's bad -- it's that the place is mostly brick and small, and the sound never seems balanced to the venue. On three trips, service has been mixed. Last time we waited about half an hour before chasing the waitress down -- twice -- to pay. She'd not paid much attention all night, so it wasn't that she was suddenly busy. If there's a band present, I'd recommend you wait and come back for tapas and wine when you can hear yourself think. read more

We had the Albondigas de Madrid first, very tasty and spicy. The sauce they are in is very interesting. It tastes a little bit like soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and honey, sprinkled with red pepper and herbs. Now that I'm rereading this, that doesn't sound appetizing. But it is so try it. Next we ate the Dos Tacos Papasitos mainly because I love pork belly. Ever since the really healthy ladies from Weston A. Price Foundation said pork belly was a healthy meal; I've been trying it everywhere I go. And this place has a great version of it. Lastly we had Besitos y Jalapeños. Perfect mix of shrimp, mild cheese and jalapeño slices. Did I mention it has bacon bits in the cheese. This was a very delicious combination. Great place to sit back and relax and listen to some good live music. Always have great wine specials too. I went a few days ago and ended up salsa dancing the night away. I went with a few friends and ended up meeting another group of people. Always a friendly environment and cool electic local art from the West Texas and New Mexico areas. It really makes you feel like you have left Lubbock when stepping in (locals you know what I mean). A regular spot for me to just get away and let loose in a good way! read more

There a limited choices when it comes to elegant and creative dishes in Lubbock. La Diosa is definitely a nice, cozy, romantic place to have dinner. I love the decoration and ambiance. The sangria is good, as is the service. The food, well it claims to be Spanish, but I wouldn't hold those expectations. Don't get me wrong- the food is good. Great tapas. Get the meatballs and the empanadas--- truly fantastic. Their wine selection is also good. Better to opt for the bottle than by the glass. The house sangria is good and the Lillet Blanc. Wish they had something stronger though. There is entertainment and it starts at 8pm so make sure to reserve a table in the main dining room. The place is decorated very nicely. My wife and I visited the McPherson Wine Tasting Room earlier in the day, and while chatting and sipping wine with Kim the owner and winemaker genius behind their great wines, we mentioned that we had wanted to go to dinner here but they were booked. Come to find out he's married to the owner! A phone call later we had a table! The ambience is kinda shabby chic with lots of lights and gewgaws to look at. Cozy couches, cute bistro tables, a strolling (unobtrusive and delightful) guitarist. There's a small stage area where a great jazz combo set up to play as we nibbled our tapas. We started with charred sashito peppers w/feta, and also olives & sweet, salty, spicy almonds. Yum. Then the other dishes started arriving: little meatballs, a potato and melty stacked cheese "enchilada", and onion marmalade toast. All to DIE for. We've eaten tapas all over the country and have had none better. Highly recommend. read more

This was my first time at a tapas restaurant and I was not too sure what to expect. The place is very neat inside. It is dimly lit, has eclectic art, plenty of cozy sofas and overall a real gem in Lubbock. Something special about eating fancy finger food while listening to live then relaxing on an antique sofa while sipping on sangria. music The Food was very good and there was an excellent selection to choose from. However, none of the food blew me away considering spent well over $100 for 2 after food, drinks and desserts. The service, much like the food, felt very European. DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!!! I was looking forward to a nice Mediterranean meal after a long day of working out of town. After reading the reviews for this place I was excited to check it out. As we walk in they tell us that there is a $3 charge tonight because the have live music, no biggie. Might be fun. It's almost 10 minutes before wait staff brings water. We had to find our own silverware. They brought the wrong appetizer. After bringing the correct appetizer they came with many other incorrect orders for other tables. My meal came at least 25 minutes before my friend at the same table. No water refill. Very disappointed. Almost walked out and went to McDonald's, at least we know what kind of service to expect there. read more

La Diosa is probably one of my favorites in Lubbock. The Tapas are good and are actually Tapas (some other places in Lubbock seem to confuse Tapas with appetizers). They also have a pretty nice dessert selection. They serve (I think exclusively) local wines, but they have a decent selection, and as others have noted, they are famous for their sangria. They are also a smoke free establishment - there aren't very many places you can go for a late night drink that is smoke free. The only drawback is that if you go on a Friday or Saturday they usually have a band and charge a cover (even if you are ordering food) and the music can make it difficult to converse with your dinner companions. In most other cities this would probably be a 4 star place - but for Lubbock it deserves 5. read more

I was not sure I wanted to try La Diosa, based on the interesting reviews that were 180 degrees apart from people eating there on the same day or in the same week. I guess my advice is unless you get truly lousy service or stomach-churning food, that would be a legitimate negative review. Other than that, leave your expectations out on the street to get run over by a truck, and just let La Diosa be........ La Diosa. I was joyously impressed. Service by Claire was excellent - didn't hover over me yet didn't ignore me either. Atmosphere is great, but the food was terrific. I had Albondigas de Madrid, besitos y jalapenos, and a glass of McPherson's good rose. That was definitely enough food for one person - I can easily see that more than 3 hungry people would not have quite enough. To finish, I had the diosota salad, a perfect ending. (I now understand why most French serve a salad at the end of the meal, not the beginning.) I was looking forward to my next visit back to Lubbock - now I'm REALLY drooling in anticipation!!! This is where I take people who want to feel "cultured" in Lubbock. I absolutely love La Diosa. Their Sangria is AMAZING...almost as amazing as the Red Bordeaux that they sell for $32 by the bottle. When my friends parents came in town, I bought a bottle for them and they loved it. What I really love about La Diosa though is the environment. It is lined with art pieces, huge comfy couches to lounge in, and small tables throughout the restaurant. If you go on Friday or Saturday evenings, they often have live lounge music, which really adds to the eclectic atmosphere. The consultant winemaker there is actually Kim McPherson, who co-owns McPherson Cellars across the street. So, if you are looking for a fun ladies night out or date idea, it it really fun to go wine tasting at McPhersons cellars and then head across the street to La Diosa for an evening of tapas and sangria. When you go, make sure to experience it the Spanish-way and order several tapas to share around the table. It is not really a place that you get a single meal for yourself, but a place where you can try different things with a group of friends. If you are looking for a great starting place, the meatballs and spanish tortilla never disappoint. read more

Ahhhh :) Visiting Lubbock for the first time from Vegas where I happen to live. Didn't have the highest expectations coming in about anything Lubbock had to offer but I'm happy to say I am pleasantly surprised by this place! The good: The atmosphere, the decor, the tapas!, the live music. The bad: nothing to complain about. loved it. The experience: This place is adorable. Very artsy, something to look at in every corner. We got there around 700 and were informed at 830 the live music would begin (they charge $5 cover for this that is added to your bill if you stay past 830). The boyfriend and I ordered 5 plates: The Caprese Salad, The Rebeca, the meatballs...and two other things that were delish but I cant remember the names. Everything tasted amazing, good little portions as tapas should be. I feel like you really can't go wrong with anything you order. Both my bf and I were full off the 5 plates we chose. Unfortunately, we had studying to do or I would have sat there for hoursss listening to the music and nibbling on tapas/sangria. Next time! We left about 840 and they didn't charge us the $5 cover. Thanks guys. The red sangria: yummy! They have specials on some nights. The band: Awesome. Singer had a beautiful voice and invited couples to dance. This place is hip and eclectic; at first we weren't sure what to think. The lunch menu seemed small and the food seemed almost too unique for us. WE WERE WRONG--we each had the stacked enchiladas and were blown away! The flavors were fresh and savory. Every plate that we saw come out looked divine and all the patrons seemed very happy. I spent the early afternoon last Saturday at Llano Escatado Winery tasting many different wines and honestly becoming a bit tipsy. All that learning about wine worked up my appetite and I was recommended La Diosa to indulge in some food. La Diosa offers tapas style plates as well as entrees. I opted to try some tapas even though I was by myself... and I feel like you are supposed to share tapas... oh well. I do what I want. Sylvana's Queso is awesome! The artichoke hearts really give it some substance and texture. I also ordered the Angelina Onion Marmalade Toast - so so tasty I liked the combination of goat cheese and marmalade and prosciutto. Overall, La Diosa has a great atmosphere with the mix matched collection of chairs and tables ranging from outdoor patio furniture to victorian style dining room pieces. The garage door gives it a bit of an ironic grunge feel, but is much appreciated during the hot temperatures that grace the lovely town of Lubbock while enjoying the live music. This is one of my favorite places to go when I just want to relax with friends. The atmosphere is very relaxing and laid back. Even when it's full, it's not too noisy and I love looking at the art and other original decor they have up. La Diosa has amazing tapas and pretty good sangria. Prices a little higher than most places we go, but I am happy to pay a little more for fabulous service and wonderful food! My only gripe is that they should expand hours! read more
