I did not have a 4 or 5 star experience at this establishment with its food. Service was fine. The staff was very attentive to the table. The food was not so fine. One of our orders was for gorditas. Instead of gorditas, we received six small tortillas dipped in sauce. This particular plate was not what is described to be. It should be described as 6 small tacos. Another plate that was ordered was the enchilada plate. When this plate came out, there was a significant amount of water from the lettuce mix that made everything soggy. The side of rice was not fresh. The tamale was super soggy as well. The one decent option was the burrito and it was fine. Would not return for another meal here. Actually 3.5 Stars We enjoyed the taste of our food selections...house specialty gorditas (messy!) and carnitas burrito (huge!). Enjoyed the salsa. Nice server. The restaurant however was dark, worn, and the booths were ripped and in bad condition. I have to hope the kitchen was taken care of. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever ate at! La Dona is my favorite restaurant. I always go here and have lunch with my family or close friends. When you first walk in the restaurant you're automatically greeted by the very nice workers. The best, authentic Mexican food you can find in NoCal. What did it for me was the handmade corn tortillas and the array of house sauces to try! Freshly fried tortilla chips served from the moment you're seated along with traditional Mexican decor to make you feel out of the states and in Mexico. I ordered a combo and told the waitress just to bring me a couple of their best items; my Chile Relleno & chicken enchilada were excellent and obviously from authentic family recipes. La Dona was such a great find! Excellent service!! Wonderful, tasty food. Enjoyed the jalapeño sauce - very spicy, but of course it is since 100% blended jalapeños. We had the camerones rancheros. I was presently surprised by this place. I was hesitant at first bc of the sketchy location but I was craving some Mexican. I remember seeing this place plenty of times so I finally decided to stop. The chips and salsa were good. I could tell the chips were homemade which was a plus. I ordered chicken enchiladas and the hubby had tamales both were great. I stepped in here to grab lunch to go. I was greeted with friendly and helpful service, and I ordered the enchilada lunch special and a carnitas taco a la carte. Overall, I was not impressed with the food. The carnitas Taco was yummy but he the meat was a little too dry. The enchilada didn't have much flavor. I also asked for no beans but when I got home discovered that there were beans in the container. Perhaps I need to go back to try something else. read more

I had an interesting experience of miscommunication with the waitress and owner's daughter (Monica). I asked if one of the pork options was pulled pork, Monica said yes. However, I was given a burrito with pork chunks. When I asked Monica why it was not pulled pork she had said I ordered the wrong meat. She offered to make another one, but it was assumed I would have to pay for a whole new burrito, so I gave the original uneaten burrito back. At the end of the meal she came to give us the check, I asked if the burrito was taken off the bill, she said no but then changed her mind and took it off. Unfortunately, this was not the only mishap of the night which is why I feel compelled to write a review. How was the food? I would not know, but three of the 4 other guests I was with were not impressed. read more

The food was a 4, the service was a 1. Came in Sunday morning, I ordered a pozole and my husband the gorditas. The pozole was very tasty, the gorditas as well( a bit greasy). My only problem was the lady who served us. First, we asked for salad verde and she looked at us like we were asking so much from her. So she brings out this salsa that looks like guacamole so we asked if she had green salsa like for tacos, again she gave us attitude about it. (P.s the restaurant was empty it's not like she had better things to do) Second, we asked for limones and again with the attitude, she brings us 2 slices. I had to get up and asked another waitress for more limones. It's disappointing because the food was good, but because of the service I don't think we'll be coming back. Shame. read more

Really yummy Mexican food. You can tell things are really authentic when you look at the meat choices, so many and hard to pronounce, just the way I like it. I had the Chimichanga and it was so large I had to stop eating. Only...I didn't want to because it was so good. The chips and salsa are also very good, the chips come out hot and the salsa is really flavorful and has just the right amount of spicy to it. Only downside is that the food took a while to come out and the atmosphere is a little lacking, it feels almost too big inside. Wow!! Probably the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. I only ever saw one worker, our waitress, and she was handling every table. She did a phenomenal job of keeping drinks, chips, and salsa full. I got the chili verde, and it was outstanding! The meat and sauce were fixed perfectly, great flavor and tender. AMAZING FOOD!! I highly recommend this place! We've been to several other places and this will be our go to from now on! The service was amazing. They use homemade corn tortillas for the street tacos, which was amazing! It was very authentic. My husband ordered 2 asada tacos and I ordered the 3 item combo (asada taco, chicken sope and a cheese enchilada) with rice and beans. Tonight was delicious. We started off with Gorditas as an appetizer. 6 small flat tortillas with marinated shredded beef in an enchilada sauce with shredded cabbage and pickled onions. So delicious!!
