This has been my favorite Mexican restaurant in Fairfield for over six years now. We haven't been there in a while so we decided to go back. During that visit, I decided I would try something different. I usually get the three item combo platter and get three enchiladas and one tostada. And I loved it every single time! This time I went with the carne asada platter. I think it was listed under the specialty dishes, but for sure it was $19. The prices have gone up significantly since we started eating here. We loved this restaurant before because the food was great and the prices were reasonable. But I was very disappointed in the Carne Asada. It was a cheap piece of meat that was dry and had average flavor. I think La Dona could do so much better. They have made a lot of changes recently. Hopefully, that doesn't mean the quality of the food isn't as good anymore. They now have a breakfast buffet on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 2pm. Haven't tried it yet but I plan to. Service and ambience is the same as always although I did notice there were less customers than normal. Definitely going back to order my usual. I made a mistake trying something new. read more

Not sure how this is only rated a 4.2 on yelp. The food is flavorful, juicy, and spiced just right. I tried the Gorditas & a chicken tamale and my love tried the Mexican-Tacon, a cheese enchilada, and a chicken tamale. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. The service was a bit slow considering not many people were in there; but the food is by far worth the wait. The atmosphere is clean and quiet, and the TVs playing funny videos was nice. Looking for local flavor we pulled a restaurant out of the "proverbial hat" and zero'd in on Mexican cuisine. Actually, we are looking for another restaurant and got tired of looking for it and our vehicle happen to be right out front of La Dona. A quick Yelp review and we found it to be a popular spot. Walked on in for a late lunch, we were quickly greeted by a number of the staff. With a smile on her face, a server told us to pick a table and we sat right down. She quickly came over with menus, made some recommendations, and brought along some fantastic chips and salsa. She asked us if we wanted to try some of their "hot" salsa that they only bring out for special occasions so of course we said "yes"! The chips and both salsa's were both terrific. Ironically, we both picked the same lunch menu, burritos. With a choice of four different meats, we both picked pork. The burrito comes with a choice of beans, I went with the refried. About five minutes later, the server returned with our food. This burrito was a large burrito, it came stuffed with pork, red sauce, melted jack cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Since I'm not a big sour cream fan, I passed. More than enough to eat and plenty delicious. The meal was hot, they didn't cut any corners on any of the ingredients. Every bite was terrific. I got a doggy bag to take back what I couldn't finish. Oh, I had the Arnold Palmer to drink. It was terrific. Our server came back a number of times to keep filling the drink up. Yum! read more

My husband and I were craving Mexican and so I started yelping. Found this place and decided to give it a try. I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Very festive and cute. Staff were friendly and polite. I got the camarones a la diabla and it was pretty good. The sauce is a little thinner than what I've had in the past but the flavor and spice was definitely there. I also ordered the shrimp ceviche tostada. Flavor was perfect. Just the perfect amount of sour. Only thing was, I wish it was a little spicier but that's what the hot sauce is for. This place actually has pretty good food and service, but they lose several stars from me for charging $4 for a side of sour cream and not telling me. Had they told me how much it cost I would have passed on it. I can buy two entire bottles of sour cream for that much. If it weren't for this I would definitely come back. Stopped by on a work break based on the Yelp reviews. Came a little early as the severs were eating lunch before the rush. Friendly greeting from everyone. Ordered the chile verde. Received some nice crunchy chips with a chili sauce which was nice but spicy, and a blended avocado salsa. My dish came and the pork chunks were not braised or stewed in the sauce. It was poured over which meant less flavor IMO. I should've ordered the tacos that I was planning on. Service was prompt and friendly. My first time here and I'm so glad I found this place on my way home. The authenticity of the food will definitely make me a repeat customer. The excellent customer service from the hostess/ server/cashier/ bomb margarita bartender made my experience just that more amazing. The prices were very reasonable too! Ooh let me not forget the bomb homemade salsas I had with my tacos and my chips. Both the green and red salsas were equally great! We've been to La Doña on multiple occasions, why I haven't written a review is beyond me... Today we came in for their new weekend buffet option @ 25.00/person, which includes fountain and iced tea drinks. Excellent idea for a buffet... the last time we had AYCE w/ Mexican choices was at HometownBuffet or even at the Golden Coral lol La Doña offers authentic Mexican cuisine and the thoughtfulness that is seen in the dishes executed was really well done! We saw them being advertised on FB for weekend buffet at La Doña .. trying to get the word out, gatekeeping feels wrong....Hoping these reviews generate more foot traffic! Hits for me were their in-house tortillas and some smack verde chiliquiles! The fam enjoyed all their protein selection, pork chili verde, chicken fajitas, carne asada...their refried beans are so good: thick, creamy and powerfully flavorful with that lard/porky essence, along side some aromatic fluffy rice! There's chorizo and eggs, my daughter devoured along w/ some pineapple jello! Hubby liked their chicken mole and steak rancheros! They even offered a bread pudding w/ a flan topping...so yummy! Pazole was sublimely porky and smokey, and their hominy cooked to the desired consistency, soft and not chalky... their menudo w/ honeycomb tripe was very soft, no need to chew consistency...good enough for the teefless really! Add all fixings they offer on the side w/ a healthy squeeze of lime juice, onions and cilantro. The young ladies who served us brought endless drinks and cleared our plates and checked on us every so often. My carnitas burrito was enormous and it was covered in a delicious sauce, but the interior was completely flavorless and dry as hell! I'm not kidding. It really was as bland as bland can be. I appeciated the option for whole or refried beans, but they didn't do anything to better the taste. This is really surprising since the green sauce is so spicy, you can't eat it. Could have been better. The reviews made us try this restaurant (located in a small outdoor strip mall type area) yesterday. Rice and refried beans had no taste or flavor. Chips were fine, fresh but needed salt. Chicken taco was ok. They fried the chicken! Again no flavor. Pork tamale...omg...it was smelly and tasted like wild game meat! Not like any pork I've ever had. Spit it out...Couldn't eat it. The server asked how our meal was? She confirmed the meat was pork. I told her I didn't like it. She said she was sorry and walked off. Lol. Hubby had a ground beef taco and chicken enchilada. He said there was no flavor to his plate. The place looked clean, and aside from a rather long wait (it was lunchtime) everything seemed to be running well. Stopped here on our way back home from Six flags. We were so hungry and wanted Mexican. The reviews were good so we gave it a try. First thing we noticed was that the salsa was fantastic! It was flavorful, fresh and the crisp warm chips complemented it well. I ordered a dry Carne asada burrito and it was delicious, I had to take half to-go, it was so big. My husband ordered the 2 combo Chile relleno and crispy taco. Daughter ordered the asada torta and was asking everyone to try it because it was so delicious. The rice was well flavored and beans were a 4 out of 5. The staff was pleasant but we had to ask for refills on chips and we never received refills on drinks, not very attentive, but overall professional. read more

Service was sweet and friendly, by Alicia. After being seated we were promptly served warm chips and two salsas, a red and green. The green salsa was a smooth avocado based one and it was super spicy and delicious. We ended up dipping our entrees in it! We ordered crispy tacos (shredded chicken and shredded beef) and a combo plate with a chicken enchilada and a crispy chicken taco. We inhaled it all and I used the chips to scoop up my rice and beans. We stopped here based on Yelp reviews. Having spent most of the day driving to Santa Rosa from Placer County, we were on our way back and we were tired/hungry. It has been several years since I visited La Dona, so Lori said she'd like to check it out. Our plan was a light meal and we stuck to the plan. La Dona has a spacious dinning area and outdoor dining, with the change in weather we sat inside. We were greeted by a perky friendly hostess who was also our waitress. The menu is quite extensive and very tempting, but we stuck to our plan a light late lunch. I ordered a Mexi-Tacon...double corn tortillas with cheese melted in between, grilled onions and bell pepper, beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole, delicious and large. Just heartwarming frijoles de olla that makes you go yuuuummmm! Lori ordered the Gorditas, six street size tacos, corn tortillas dipped in a red sauce covered in grilled onions and peppers, cabbage, beans, and queso seco...they are total flavor bombs, comfort food as the weather cools down. So we ordered light, great price, and Lori ate light, me not so much. I sampled a Gordita, devoured my Mexi-Tacon, then finish of the Gorditas...Lori thoroughly enjoyed her two. I gotta say: with all the positive reviews, I expected better from this place. It's in a sketchy part of town, but that never stops me from getting good food. This place has promise, but the food is too inconsistent. I got the steak fajitas. Some of the meat was dry and chewy, other pieces were nice and tender. They advertise it as spicy. It isn't. It's barely flavorful. The guacamole was outstanding. The green salsa was tasty, but not my thing; the creamy consistency was kind of a turn off. Large horchatas and yummy sauces on their burritos (note they serve WET burritos here)! Came here with my bf back when there was outdoor dining! Relatively easy parking in front of the restaurant. They had a little patio set up in front of their restaurant with 1-2 friendly workers with masks handling takeout and customers outside. First highlight-- they had this jalapeno-based green sauce they made for their chips I loved. Not sure of all the ingredients, but it had a horse radish-like spice kick that me and my sinuses very much enjoyed. Second highlight--large Cola cups filled to the brim with Horchata! Mine was so large I had to take some in a takeout container home. Third highlight--burrito sauce! I was a little surprised when the burrito came out on a dish drizzled in sauce since I didn't register that they served wet burritos. I had a newfound appreciation for the flavorful "gravy" that topped my burrito. The tastes were definitely not what I was used to in a taco truck--different spices on the meat and sauce. Runny liquid at the bottom of the bag, I've never seen enchilada sauce that looks like whatever this is. Theres no way I'd feel comfortable serving this to anyone. It actually looks like a plate that was thrown away, re-bagged. A totally waste of $20. I'm confused my Yelper family, because we just didn't enjoy anything about this place. Decor-looks like they were trying for a blend of sports bar and Mexican restaurant and they missed the mark. Looks kinda dirty and simply unorganized. Service-was ok, they both tried. Food-Too much salt! Posible was served in a large bowl but all we could taste was the salt. We are from Concord and my cousin told us about this place in Fairfield. She said, it was good! From the get go both the woman servers had attitude and were rude. We asked if she could clean our table and she responded with "oookkkk??" With attitude. I brushed it off bc we were hungry. We ordered our food and they took forever to bring our our food, it felt they did it on purpose bc there was hardly any people there. Menudo was super watery I couldn't finish it. No body came to check up on us and we waited a while for the check and I had to go inside and ask for it(mind you by that time they only had two tables inside the restaurant) the faces they would make were just filled with attitude a virgin(mineral water) michelada they charges it as if it had alcohol when it didn't and when I confronted them with this the server had attitude. I ordered a wet burrito...chicken, beans, rice, cheese, and topped with mild salsa, sour cream and guac. Not bad, and decent flavor, but still average. My husband ordered adada tacos and an asada torta. The tacos came with handmade tortillas (taqueria size) which he loved. The torta had beans, asada, avocado, jalapenos, and lettuce. Again it was a winner is his book. On a side note-the torta came with crinkle cut fries...this is a nice gesture but it shouldn't be done with mexican food. I love this little Mexican restaurant. It is getting harder and harder to find consistently good ones in this area. I love that this is family owned and operated. We are always seated and greeted promptly and our drink order taken right when we sit down. I like the options they give you the combination plates to add meats to certain dishes so I can always get exactly what I want. I seem to always go with a quesadilla and burrito. Their carnitas is always savory and crispy and their carne asada is on point. The only down side is if you have a larger group your meals will probably come out staggered as the kitchen finishes them. I generally have no problem with this as I like to support these small local businesses. This is our new go to and you can bet we will be back! read more

This was my first time at La Dona, and what a gem In the city of Fairfield. The restaurant owners Miguel and Dona Martina are excellent!
