Honestly when this place opened up it was great. We recently visited this place twice last month and today. And both times were absolutely HORRIBLE! The girl server had this horrible attitude. The first time I said hey probably cause they are closing soon and she's having a bad day. She was rude multiple times but my parents told me to ignore her. But today omg let me tell you. We had asked what kind of meat do they have and she said the menu is right there look at it. Then rolled her eyes and spaced out at the felling. What the f$?*%. We also asked for the other green salsa they have and she said " what are you talking about what green salsa. Fine I'll bring you the other green salsa we have" What kind of service is this. I understand if you're having a bad day or your parents or grandparents are the owners but that's no way to treat other people. And I know this isn't the first time. It shows in the reviews and from people who have recently gone. I will not be going or recommending this restaurant ever again! I honestly suggest they talk to her. I love this restaurant! Family run with the matriarch at the stove. The fact that they make their corn tortillas fresh makes them next level. Delicious homemade, authentic Mexican cuisine. We drove by the place the first time without seeing it. It's tucked in the corner of a strip mall. When we found it and went inside we were instantly greeted and given a table. The waitress was efficient and brought our chips and salsa and then we asked for and received 4 waters. 3 of us ordered the Chile verde burrito and my husband had the carnitas plate. He had some special requests and they were no problem. We received our food quickly and my husband received his just as he requested. The food was excellent. Stopped at this little joint after a day trip to SFO. Other Yelpers had given it a 4.5-5 stars so we figured- what the hay- we'll try it. All I can say is- I wish it was closer to where we stay cuz a) I was so damned full afterwards it was hard to stay awake to drive. B) we'd love to come back because it was tasty!! Anyway- you know you're in a good place when the little hole in the wall has a full parking lot. From the moment we were seated, Zulema was friendly and attentive. She made good suggestions on the menu items, she was good with our boys and helpful all around! The food came out quick and it was a lot but so tasty you couldn't leave anything there. I way overate. I got the chicken fajitas- it was sizzling hot, juicy, just the right ratio of chicken to veggies. Hubs had a Chile verse burrito and loved every bite. Father in law had a carne asada burrito WET. I guess it was good because it was gone before I knew it and he wasn't sharing any! Boys got kids burgers- cuz they're dumb. We then shared some sopapillas for dessert- and those didn't have a chance. They were light and yummy and just the right amount of sweet. A group of friends and myself decided to have Mexican food after church. One of my friends was a bit hesitant dining here, since he ate here before and wasn't impressed, but we all decided to dine here anyway. We were greeted and seated right away. The day that we ate here, there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. Luckily, the place wasn't busy, so we were able to chat and eat our food in a reasonable time (plus we were all watching football on TV, which definitely helped to keep us distracted). Despite being the only waiter, we had decent customer service here. However, when I accidently left my to-go box at the restaurant, I called the restaurant and spoke with a staff member who ensured me that my food (in my to-go box) wouldn't be thrown away and will be waiting for me when I returned. After returning within 5 minutes of leaving the restaurant, the waiter informed me that they still threw away my food despite one of his co-workers saying he would hold it for me until I got back to the restaurant. The food was unimpressive. I ordered the pozole, which wasn't that good. I had some of my friend's soup dish, I forgot the name of it, but it was much more flavorful than my pozole. Although I wanted to take my left overs home, it wasn't a complete loss from the employees throwing it away in the garbage. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed in this restaurant. I don't plan on dining here again. I'll stick to going to Oakland or Napa for good Mexican food. read more

It might not look like much, but this was definitely the best Mexican food I have had in a while. If you are passing through Fairfield, it is well worth the stop! I ordered a horchata and the chicken fajitas. Warm, fresh chips came to my table with what tasted like homemade salsa. As a matter of fact, everything tasted homemade, and I think that is what made it SO delicious. One downside was that chip refills are $0.99, but I left more than full, so that probably was for the best! The fajitas came out sizzling hot with fresh and hot homemade tortillas, refried beans, and spanish rice. I am a sucker for homemade refried beans and these just made me melt in my seat. Service was decent, especially given that it looked like there was only two servers and a very large group they were also attending to. I left very stuffed and happy! Restaurant wise: delicious food, wonderful staff. Love the Tuesday lunch specials (which I had today), shredded chicken burrito with a side of rice, beans & a drink. My mom ALWAYS orders the Chile relleno combo plate! Their chips are always warm & crunchy, I hate when food tastes like it's old. Lovely place to eat in 2020! La Dona has created an adorable outdoor seating area in spite of small location! Shade for the day and heat for the night with beautiful flowers in planters all around. I ordered the two item special with sopes. Freshly made and I actually finished the creamy beans and rice that were on the plate. I was full the rest of the day. It didn't cost that much, service was friendly, food was super good. A menu taped to the window would be nice. I like to check out the menu and have a sense of what I want to order. It would be five stars, but this is my first visit. And I'm learning that consistency in a restaurant is important. Super happy I stumbled upon this little gem while in Fairfield for a work day. This is some awesome authentic Mexican food with a quaint and cute atmosphere. I loved this for a quick, easy lunch spot. I had some tacos - I tried the al pastor, chicken and steak - the chicken were the best of the 3 in my opinion. I definitely recommend ordering at least four or so for a solid meal size, since they are pretty small individual tacos. It was nice being able to try all of the different kinds. Before I forget I must mention the salsa / sauce they brought out with the chips... the yellow sauce that came with it (I think it's avocado among other ingredients) was seriously magical... I would seriously come back here solely for that sauce, I could bottle that up and eat it with every single meal... SO good! I was in town and my employee brought me here for lunch. The vibe was a little off. There was no ambiance - no music, lighting was bad, and decor was dated. The service was good. The waitresses were very helpful, patient, and hospitable. My employee did not know what half the food was so the waitresses were explaining by detail what each item was...they are angels for not losing because he really did not know much about Mexican food. Once we finally ordered, the food was tasty and definitely made to order. I had sopes and tacos - yummy. He had a three piece combo with an enchilada, tamale, and taco - he devoured it. The meat was good, a bit salty by itself but when you eat it with the tortilla it balances out perfectly. And the tortillas, man. The tortillas. Especially for corn tortillas, these were fluffy and fresh, mouthwatering food delivery devices that I could eat by themselves. Even if you prefer flour, do yourself a favor and at least try these. I also tried the Chile verde: nice heat in the dish, and the pork was very tender. Atmosphere: Modest and low key, very casual. Not much more extravagant than any other strip mall restaurant, but it looked like they had a setup for watching stuff on a big projector and party lights. The music was fine when we arrived, but someone turned it up halfway through the meal for some reason. Food was O.K., service was terrible. I came for the first time with my mother,immediately upon walking in 2 young servers looked at us and then looked at each other as if to see who would have the misfortune of having to interact with us. FINALLY a woman says to seat yourself. We do, and we sit for nearly 10 minutes without a greeting, a menu or anything. It wasn't until we were about to leave that one of the girls came over with menus and half heartedly apologized, saying the girl who looked like she didn't want to serve us was supposed to bring us menus. We came here with high hopes from the YELP reviews, usually they are right on, not this time! There were four of us and we all ordered something different. I was told the chicken fajitas were great but everything else wasn't. I got the shrimp ceviche and Carnitas taco. I could barely tell there was any shrimp, it was cut into small pieces not to be seen through the sea of tomatoes, for $6.00 this was not okay. Husband ordered steak tacos and all the tacos were really small, including mine, about 1/2 the size of regular ones for $2.50. My cousin had a taco salad and said there was mostly lettuce and not enough meat. The service was POOR. We got served slowly and my husband waited for 10 minutes after we were all served to get his tacos, we were pretty upset. Once we all got served the waitress checked on us three times, maybe trying to make up for the poor in beginning but it was too late. Bad food, bad service, yeck!!! Husband and I had a hankering for Mexican food on a rainy Sunday. The place is clean and decor is authentically Mexican. Employees also dressed in Mex garb. I also like that they are very nice and courteous. They start you with warm chips and salsa. Most importantly- the food..Fresh, tasty and delicious. I had Carne Asada Tacos and hubby had Carnitas with cilantro and onions. My refreshing Horchata drink quenched my thirst. It was not too sweet. My wife and I came in for their Wednesday night taco special. We ordered 5 tacos and the steak fajitas. The dish came out with 6 tacos and thought nothing of it. When we went to pay, the waitress charged us for 6. When we tried to dispute, she said it doesn't matter what you ordered, you ate 6 tacos. She refused to take off the extra taco. Also she charged us for 2.75 tacos instead of the special 1.50 each because they served us homemade tortillas. We specified the special deal and only half the tacos had the flour tortillas yet still charged us 2.75 each for the 6. Absolutely ridiculous service and we will not be coming here again. I tried their "Al Pastor Super Burritos" and they were good. The flavor was more sweet and had hints of pine apple. The size was big enough to feed one person, but for the price, I was expecting them to be bigger. I called in advance to order them and they had them ready when I got there. They are doing the best to cope with the pandemic and had an area for outside dining. Found this on Yelp heading back to East Bay from Tahoe. As noted by others, restaurant is unassuming. I thought the chicken fajitas were excellent, 5 star quality. We were venturing down from Sacramento to visit our daughter and son-in-law in Fairfield. While we previously tried several excellent Mexican restaurants in town, it was suggested that we try La Dona Mexican restaurant. We ordered an assortment of to-go combination meals, including chicken enchiladas, tacos, burritos, etc. The authentic food was fresh, and delicious.
