Came to La Dong twice and both times were truly amazing. The service is great and the interior is superb. Definitely worth checking out and trying a few dishes from the menu. There's a variety of appetizers, and entrees to choose from and fun mocktails. The Shaken Beef and Curry were my favorite bc of how flavorful they were. They both paired so well with white rice.

I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't like it at all. Highlight- chicken liver mousse *not pictured* & watercress salad There's an appetizer that has chicken liver mouse & bone marrow, precisely the reason that I wanted to try this place out. Let me say, that bone marrow is the worst I have ever had. The beef short rib curry, the curry sauce was pretty good- different, they incorporate pomegranate seeds which was neat. The beef? No flavor at all. Tender, but not flavorful. I had to force myself to eat it. Back to the chicken liver mousse or pate, it was AMAZING 10/10 and the highlight of my meal that day. I also ordered the coconut/salty latte and the mixed melody mushrooms. Both were okay. I love Vietnamese food and was surprised I did not enjoy the food here. I am open to giving them another shot, as they have a pretty good menu and my food selection was possibly not the best for this place. Not heading there anytime soon. On another note, there were plenty of people who ordered the PHO, maybe that should have been my go too!

Beautiful and authentic establishment that took me right back to my trip to Vietnam. Flavors are simple yet full of depth. I love that they offer fried dough to go with your pho; if you haven't tried this combo yet it's the cherry on top to carb heaven! Complimentary shrimp chips were also very tasty. Full party needs to be present to be seated FYI.

Came here on a tuesday evening with a reservation for 2 at 6 PM, and were seated immediately. It didn't seem too busy while we were there, so you can probably get away without a reservation on a weeknight. It was a cute interior, with Vietnamese decor. I ordered the pho ha noi, and while it was a solid bowl of pho with a lot of meat, I was a bit disappointed that it costs extra to get herbs and veggies on the side. They also didn't have any sauces that you can add to the broth, only pickled garlic and chilis. They had provided a complimentary appetizer, which was rice crackers with some sort of chili sauce. The sauce was good, but there wasn't very much of it. Overall, I wasn't super impressed by the food, but maybe it's because I didn't order one of their specialties.

Food 4/5 Service 4.5/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 Value 2/5 Gorgeous vibe and top-tier service at La Dong, but the portion-to-price ratio wasn't worth. It's worth trying out at least once since many dishes are unique Wagyu Pho: 4/5 The Wagyu was high-quality and the broth was well-balanced, but the portion felt more like a tasting size than a full entrée Sugarcane Shrimp: 4.5/5 Unique, meaty, and loved the pairing with sugarcane Steamed Rice Cake: 3.75/5. Perfectly fine, but I've had better Fyi they get really busy! Would recommend making a resy before going

Nina our server on this fourth visit of ours. Very kid friendly - thanks Nina! Excellent flavorful food keeps coming out of their kitchen. Worth the wait if you are walking in without a reservation. Prime time wait is usually around 45-50 mins. For people drinking - they have a great bar and waiting area where you can continue getting intoxicated while waiting for your table!

Came back again to try new dishes. Love this place. It's such a good vibe - dark and well decorated and very lively. Put a few new dishes to the test. The Bun Rieu was a special and so good. Generous portions and good quality proteins. The shaking beef with bone marrow was good, as well as the calamari, but would try something new next time. The food comes out so fast and server was accommodating. Had to wait again even though we had a reservation, so that's the only bad thing here.

Came in specifically for the banh mi after hearing it was one of the best in the city. Honestly wasn't blown away. Ordered the classic banh mi, but nothing that felt revelatory or worth the buildup. That said, the portion was huge, which I appreciated, and it came with a truffle soup that was a nice surprise. I've ordered the bun cha as well before and really enjoyed that. The portions were MASSive again.

What a bold and modern take on Vietnamese classics! First, the ambiance. The place was absolutely buzzing on a Thursday evening. The room was filled with laughter, lively conversations, and great energy all around. Thankfully, my friends came through with a reservation--otherwise we would have easily been looking at at least an hour wait. To start the night, I ordered their Vietnamese coffee with a twist. It was paired with ruby port, creating a bittersweet combination that was rich and smooth. The coffee candy garnish finished it off with a sweet note. I'm honestly still surprised I managed to fall asleep later that night--though the inevitable food coma probably helped. As always, we ordered family-style. It's the best way to experience everything a restaurant has to offer. Our table quickly filled with dishes: the crispy Vietnamese crepe, grilled pork with noodles dipped in fish sauce, perfectly crisp branzino, and a refreshing pomelo salad that helped cleanse the palate between bites. Not pictured--but absolutely worth mentioning--were the rau muống (morning glory) and the wagyu pho. The sautéed water spinach was wonderfully garlicky, while the wagyu pho was incredibly rich, buttery, and deeply flavorful. Surprisingly, my favorite dish of the night was the pomelo salad with shrimp. It was bright, citrusy, and refreshing--exactly the kind of dish that makes you want to keep going back for another bite of everything else. The service matched the quality of the food. The staff was attentive, quick to clear plates as new dishes arrived, and kept the meal flowing seamlessly. Overall, a solid 10/10 experience. Maybe it was just overdue--good food shared with great company always makes everything taste even better.

A terrific authentic spot. Great Pho we had the ribeye. Broth was wonderful but it lacked that bit of star anise and needed more lemongrass etc. The springs which are made in house were the stars!! Omg. Ever had better anywhere. Fresh crispy // perfect. Lettuce and herbs and sauce all went together for the perfect bit The tofu bahn mi was a runaway vegetarian success. Loved our friendly server. She made our whole experience even better. Chill vibe.

We had an early Tuesday dinner at La Dong and I would definitely recommend making a reservation bc the restaurant was packed and only the bar was available for walk-ins even on a Tuesday. The restaurant itself was beautiful. We started off with complimentary shrimp chips (4) and steamed rice cakes as an appetizer. These were non-traditional rice cakes as it consisted of little bowls of fried onions, scallion, and shrimp with rice cake on the bottom. Pricey but definitely unique. Everyone ordered the pho ha noi and I got the wagyu pho. I was a fan of the broth but one of my friends thought it was a bit bland. I'm glad I splurged on the wagyu as it was delicious and melted in my mouth. The meal was a celebration so we brought our own cake and tolerated the $15 plating fee. I enjoyed my meal but it was comparable enough to my usual local pho spots.

Bun Cha Hanoi, pork banh mi
    Wen Na Z.

Ambience and food were both delightful! My friend and I shared the bun cha Hanoi and the pork banh mi - portion size was generous. We were only able to make it through bun cha Hanoi and brought home the banh mi. The grilled pork and meat patties were so flavorful!

Beautifully decorated "Asian colonial house" setting (the restaurant's own description) that wows you as you step in. I ordered the Wagyu pho, which the waiter pours the broth on top of separately in front of you. The broth was very flavorful but light enough at the same time, the meat tender, and the noodles bouncy. There is cheaper pho elsewhere, but I had no complaints for this one either. Would want to come back to try more of their dishes my next visit to the city.

I was warmly greeted by the gentleman at the door (5 service there), which set a great first impression. However, as soon as I walked downstairs, it felt like the space had lost its speakeasy vibe. I was seated right near the stairs and could feel cold air from outside every time the door opened, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also surprised to see how much the cocktail menu had been reduced. When I asked about it, the response was that "the place changed a lot." That's fair -- places evolve -- but instead of highlighting the improvements or new strengths, the explanation focused negatively on what the bar used to be. As someone who really enjoyed the former version, that wasn't reassuring. Unfortunately, the drinks themselves didn't make up for it. One of the two cocktails was simply not good. No one came back to check on the drinks, and when I asked for the check after about 20 minutes, there was no acknowledgment that I had barely touched mine or any inquiry about my experience. Overall, a place I once enjoyed and recommended now feels more like a standard dive bar where " Mixologist " were replaced by bartender and were fun cool looking and tasty drinks were replaced by " less complex cocktail ", lacking the warmth and attention to detail that once made it special.

Easy to find if you know what you're looking for, if you arrive right at 5pm on a cold weeknight in the winter, you'll easily find a table or seat at the bar. Very cute space, cozy like everyone says, but nothing mind blowing. Music is moderately loud. The menu in early February still included their winter holiday cocktails. I was more interested in the apple sage house-made fermented soda, and it was pretty good-large glass, flavorful and not too sweet. My friend enjoyed her pomegranate version. The space started to fill up at around 5:30. Service was polite when you could get it, but generally very inattentive, even before it got busy. It honestly didn't feel too different from anu other very nice NYC bar, in terms of menu selection, prices, ambiance and service. Maybe that's standard for NYC speakeasies, but the places I frequented in other cities were more fun and felt more worth the price. I'll still give another NYC spot a try, but not coming back to Thyme.

It was dark when we entered the coffee shop but an ajar door gave way to the bar. The decor is a homage to the works of Nikola Tesla, which can be seen in the subtle electric theme throughout the space and the naming of the cocktails. The space isn't too large - the bar and stools take up most of the space but they also have some booths/tables. The place looks great. The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. Since we had cocktails at dinner, we only stayed for one round. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my time at Patent Pending. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu.

For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way.
