First of all, the aesthetics in here is so elegant with modern traditions. I came for dinner with a friend. Be sure to make reservations as the is spot gets busy; or you can try walk-in for a bar seat. We started off with the Banh Xeo ($18), which is perfect to share with two people. You can get about 4 wraps, which is crunchy and refreshing. For the mains, we also shared the Bun Bo Hue ($26) and Pork Chop Rice Platter ($26). The dishes are a good portion and come with a variety of ingredients. Overall, the food is a bit pricey as this is an elevated Vietnamese spot. Nonetheless, everything was delicious and I would return to try their other dishes.
Beautiful interior and nice location. We actually missed our RSVP 15-min window by one minute but they were still able to seat us. The drinks are delicious. The banana one is sweet and aromatic. The pate appetizer is really simple. Very creamy and buttery texture but I do wish it was more salted at least. The bun cha is so delicious. Worth coming back for alone. The rice dish is yummy as well, but compared to the bun cha, it does feel a little lackluster. Be warned though--it's a nice, huge serving size!
We had a huge craving for Vietnamese food while visiting New York and had read about this Vietnamese restaurant so we decided to give it a try... we are so glad that we willingly waited over an hour to be able to eat here. I've never seen such a beautiful Vietnamese restaurant before that also offers amazing, delicious Vietnamese food. We ordered a range of appetizers, pho, rice plates and meat/seafood entrées all of which were absolutely amazing. There was no menu item we would not recommend and it's honestly hard to choose a favorite item so select whatever you feel like. A standout was also the cocktails, which were really imaginative and delicious and not what I would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant so definitely grab a cocktail too!
Really nice viet spot in the city. We were super excited to try the steamed rice cake they were served on a spoon with fish sauce on the side. The entrees were good and the shaking beef was allllrrrighhhhtttt. The calamansi matcha drink was super good. Our server was really friend and checked up on us frequently. Overall great experience!
I'm such a huge fan of soups that's why I ended up wanting to try La Dong. I heard great things but honestly it did not live up to the hype. The soup broth was a let down. It was too sweet and flat in flavor. The beef pieces in the soup although a generous amount, they were hard and chewy. Also, where are the herbs and the soy sprouts?! Instead I got some super spicy jalapenos and marinated garlic, no thanks. Overall underwhelming especially during a special Viet food renaissance moment in NYC. My friend's vermicelli looked good though! I wish I ordered something else.
FOOD: Its northern style food, pho is good. but the food itself isn't that authentic, its a hybrid thai - viet spot. the wings were really skinny but the soup dishes were ok. honestly not bad for NYC. Banh beo was not good - rice too thick and the nuoc mam isnt good. not authentic Service: standard service, not bad. They didnt speak Vietnamese at all, which was interesting. They pronounced my common Vietnamese last name wrong lol its ok and the food pronunciations were off. Ambiance: very nice decor, good vibes
Came to La Dong twice and both times were truly amazing. The service is great and the interior is superb. Definitely worth checking out and trying a few dishes from the menu. There's a variety of appetizers, and entrees to choose from and fun mocktails. The Shaken Beef and Curry were my favorite bc of how flavorful they were. They both paired so well with white rice.
I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't like it at all. Highlight- chicken liver mousse *not pictured* & watercress salad There's an appetizer that has chicken liver mouse & bone marrow, precisely the reason that I wanted to try this place out. Let me say, that bone marrow is the worst I have ever had. The beef short rib curry, the curry sauce was pretty good- different, they incorporate pomegranate seeds which was neat. The beef? No flavor at all. Tender, but not flavorful. I had to force myself to eat it. Back to the chicken liver mousse or pate, it was AMAZING 10/10 and the highlight of my meal that day. I also ordered the coconut/salty latte and the mixed melody mushrooms. Both were okay. I love Vietnamese food and was surprised I did not enjoy the food here. I am open to giving them another shot, as they have a pretty good menu and my food selection was possibly not the best for this place. Not heading there anytime soon. On another note, there were plenty of people who ordered the PHO, maybe that should have been my go too!

La Dong is a beautiful restaurant located on 17th Street. Jennifer had wanted Vietnamese cuisine and so I chose this place. From the lunch menu she chose the vegetable spring rolls and pho with beef and I had salad accompanied by the dry noodles duck. Both of us ate copiously and with satisfaction. Service was fine. The restroom was exquisite and for the first time I wanted to run away with the beautifully painted washbasin.
Cute decor, attentive service. The food was very good. The crepe was very crispy and looked more like a taco but tasted very good the short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender and the curry was good. The fish was fried perfectly but I felt that it could use a sauce. The drinks were so creative and delicious
Beautiful and authentic establishment that took me right back to my trip to Vietnam. Flavors are simple yet full of depth. I love that they offer fried dough to go with your pho; if you haven't tried this combo yet it's the cherry on top to carb heaven! Complimentary shrimp chips were also very tasty. Full party needs to be present to be seated FYI.
Got take out so I can't comment about ambience / service. The pho was really good espicially if you like spicy. The sliced garlic into the pho and with the meat was chefs kiss. The only thing is the price tag because at lunch time for a $20+ pho is steep. Would be great to see lunch deals for takeout / delivery. Would definitely recommend to friends. Also remember the pho noodles from here is a tad bit thicker in size & this style doesn't come with bean sprouts which was ok for me. read more

La Dong has been on my list of restaurants to try since it opened, after I returned from Vietnam. Each time I attempted to make a reservation for one person on OpenTable, it indicated that the restaurant does not allow reservations for one. Yeah, that is disappointing, but today I did a walk in and was able to get seated at the bar for their lunch menu. I was assisted immediately when I walked in, and thankfully there was a corner seat open at the bar. I came in hungry, so I ordered right away. My order consisted of the vegetable spring rolls and the Pho Ha Noi with a side salad. I devoured the vegetable spring rolls. I must say, the salad was refreshing and opened up my taste buds since it had a wasabi like dressing on it. I thought it was going to come with a citrus soy dressing, but I wasn't mad about the wasabi (it was a pleasant surprise). My pho, with several pieces of slow-cooked tender brisket that was cooked nicely. The broth, the herbs, the spices, and even the pickled garlic and jalapeño were all great add ons. I ate everything and slurped up all the broth. Hands down, it was a great affordable lunch, and I'd love to return but I guess I'll have to bring more people next time in order to get a table. read more
Booked ahead for a Friday night and had a great meal here. I tried: + La dong cocktail + Sugarcane shrimp + Wagyu pho + Morning glory + Crab fried rice + Fried whole branzino Loved my cocktail, and the best dish was the branzino. Sugarcane shrimp and pho also worth ordering. Overall excellent, though the 90 minute table limit is a little tight for a party of 4. 4.5 stars. read more
Food (5/5): This is now one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the city. We ordered the Wagyu pho, Duck Tamarind, Crab fried rice, and crab mango salad. The wagyu pho is just unbelievable... absolutely delicious and such tender meat. The duck tamarind also had very juicy and delicious duck. Service (5/5): friendly service and the food comes out fast. We reserved and had no issues with it. Ambiance (5/5): Beautiful restaurant with beautiful decor throughout the restaurant from when you enter to when you're seated. They decorate with lanterns and umbrellas in the ceiling. read more

Came here with my husband on a Saturday at around noon. We made a reservation the night before so we were able to get seated once both of us arrived. We got the sugarcane shrimp as our appetizer and the wagyu pho and pork chop rice platter as our entrees. We also got the coconut salt coffee and Calamasi matcha spritz. Sugarcane shrimp 5/5 It came with some lettuce and herbs on the side and brought a lot of freshness to the dish. I just wish they gave some more lettuce. Wagyu pho 5/5 They poured the broth over some raw wagyu and noodle right in front of us and the Wagyu was cooked perfectly. The beef was very tender and melts in our mouth. The noodle also tasted better than other pho that I have tried in other places. This noodle was bouncier and had better texture. Pork chop rice platter 4/5 Pork chop was very flavorful and the portion was huge. I just felt like I could get something similar at other places hence 4/5. Drinks 5/5 The calamansi matcha spritz was very refreshing but I mostly tasted the calamansi and not so much the matcha. It was really good regardless. The salted coconut coffee was very creamy and it tasted just like how it tasted in Vietnam! Overall, I really enjoyed our meal at La Dong. Service was also very great and fast. It was quite expensive for Vietnamese food but I think it was worth it! Cannot wait to come back to try more dishes in the future! read more
WHEN: Tue @11:30am Arrived right at opening time and just within 15 minutes, this place filled up quick! This place must be popular and good, and it was! And lucky us, with it being a weekday lunchtime, they offer lunch specials (reduced pricing with free soup or salad with your meal). SOUP: Nice mushroom vegetable soup in broth that just hits the spot of a rainy day. SALAD: A simple salad with a citrus soy dressing that includes cherry tomatoes and red cabbage. I enjoyed the flavors. THE MEALS: GRILLED PORK RICE PLATE - $18 Served with crab, shrimp and pork spring roll, Lettuce, Cucumber, Pickle Carrot, Shredded Red Cabbage, Shallots, Scallion Oil, and Fried Egg. Can I say I appreciate how you don't have to pay extra to have a fried egg? For everything you are getting, this price was quite decent, especially at such a lovely place as this! There's so much flavor in the grilled port and I appreciate how generous they are with the Scallion Oil! This plate was a winner. VEGETABLE PHO - $19 Rice noodle, King oyster mushroom, shimeji mushroom,Yu Choy, bamboo shoot, shallot, scallion & cilantro. So I made this huge request to have this Vegetable Pho served in BEEF BROTH instead of the veggie broth. They were so nice to accommodate that, and I know it made this bowl of pho amazing! I've been eating lots of burgers and pizzas and all sorts of meaty American foods that my body was craving some vegetables. I really enjoyed this. This restaurant is just so damn pretty, I feel like I'm sitting in a Wor-Kar Wai movie! Oh and the service was great, and the staff was so friendly. We were in and out within an hour! read more
Really convenient location and I loved the ambiance and art on the wall! I could have lived without the Wagyu pho tbh and didn't personally feel like it was worth the price tag, but everything tasted really good and we shared everything as a table! Overall: C // 3 stars Michelin Guide Vietnamese restaurant near the heart of Union Square. On the pricier side of restaurants, but I did not find the appeal delta to match the price delta, when there are more favorable Vietnamese establishments in the area. (Crispy Spring Roll: A) - Thoughtful dish with a sumptuous filling blend of pork, shrimp, and vegetable medley. The sweet chili sauce worked well to help alleviate the heavily fried nature. (Pho Ha Noi: C) - Elegant bowl of pho, but not necessarily the tastiest. The broth has the comforting notes of the beef bone broth, but lacks the intricate complexities of the spice blend to power the soup. The pickled garlic and bird eye's chili is a new addition, but I don't think it works well as it is jarringly contrastive. The added tendon was well worth being plentiful and so soft, but the round eye and brisket lacked fat so it just tasted like boiled meat. Am always looking for Vietnamese spots that hit when I'm in NYC and this place is it. La dong has a really expansive menu with authentic dishes to try. We got the brisket pho and bun thit nguong off of their lunch special menu and everything was delicious. Broth was amazing and I really liked my vermicelli bowl. So good! We went here after a nearby restaurant had too long of a waitlist and this place did not disappoint. Chicken vermicelli was some of the best I've ever had, it was so soft and seasoned super well. 10/10 would come back if in the area. read more

Pho-Perfect for the new york city weather. First visit to this Michelin guide restaurant but it won't be the last. I totally enjoyed the food. Flavorful and rich in vietnamese touch. Ordered crispy spring roll, Wagyu Pho, whole Fried Branzino and Crab Fried Rice. Plus Mojito. Our server Jaycee was awesome, thoughtful and kind. The restaurant was neat and rich in Vietnam culture. So glad I was able to make a reservation within an hour on the same day. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more
SO GOOD! Cannot recommend La Dong enough. In full transparency I haven't made my way to too many Vietnamese places in NYC yet, but this was the best I've been to by far. The decor and ambiance is beautiful and the staff are so friendly and attentive. My water glass stayed full the entire meal, even after one sip. Average city prices but the food was delicious and the presentation was photo worthy. One person in our group is not a fan of fish but absolutely loved the fish here. A friend and I came in for dinner and ordered the vietnamese beef carpaccio, tofu scallion, 2 wagyu pho, and an elderflower spritz. We really enoyed the tofu, it had a great texture and the fish sauce dressing was flavorful but not overpowering. The wagyu pho was outstanding. The broth, pour over your bowl tableside, was deep and rich with great flavor. They used a thicker flater rice noodle than many other pho, but it was perfect. The wagyu in the dish was flavorful and tender. The beef carpaccio was not our favorite. This had a different cut/thickness/texture to traditional carpaccio. While the meat was fresh and herbs had great flavor, the texture just wasn't for us. The elderflower spritz was tasty and refreshing. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with rich reds and golds. It is definitely a cute spot for a dinner date. Our service was also friendly, prompt, and informative. read more

Probably best Vietnamese in NYC. Fast service. Courteous staff. Excellent food. Loved the wings, pho, bun bo hue, and desserts. The coconut ice cream was delicious. I got a Vietnamese iced coffee and it was excellent. Worth getting to go. Everything tasted good including the cocktails. Threw in some Tito's also to add a punch. Corkage fee was only $20. I was really impressed with my meal at La Dong! The dishes all packed huge, bold flavors in the best possible way. I would recommend coming with a group of friends so you can try a bit of everything, or come back multiple times! The pomelo salad was spicy and citrusy with a ton of different textures. At the time I had this, it came with a wine pairing which was delicious. The steamed rice cakes were also solid - loaded toppings and flavorful sauce accompanied on the side so you can decide how much you want. For the entree I had the pho which was really good too! The staff were very attentive and fast with service. I would definitely come back and am excited to try more of the menu! read more

This place was a true success in terms of flavor, vibes and authentic Vietnamese food. Walking in around lunar new year, I truly felt like it reminded me of my grandparents but slightly more bougie and a little more modern. This was a great place to start off the new year! I came here with a couple who had went to vietnam and said their Banh Xeo is an elevated version of the ones they got in Vietnam everyday we ordered two to share for a table of 6 since it only comes with 2 each. We got so many dishes since we had a table of 6 which I recommend so you can try everything family style! The pomelo salad for me was the highlight of the appetizers and the shrimp along with the crispy shallot and toasted coconut with the pomelo had an amazing flavor blended well together that felt fresh and exciting. They came with the sesame cracker which was a fun little added touch while you place it on the cracker and it becomes a full flavor bomb in your mouth! Other appetizer we ordered was the morning glory which came first but tbh I think I needed two plates of this since it's so tasty and I love the way they sautéed them. For main entrees we ordered the dry pho, wagyu pho, Cá Chiên Nouc Mam (fried whole branzino), shaking beef, Bún Cha Hanoi (Vermicelli) and side of fried dough! The main one I was really impressed with was the wagyu pho as the wagyu was so tender and it's basically my first time having such a premium beef in the broth. The soup was so flavorful and tasty this is definitely great to have on a cold day. We ordered two since it was so good! The dry pho was also really really good it sort of reminds me of a Vietnamese style pad Thai! If you're a sweet tooth this one is mixed in with some really good sweet soy. The beef in this one was also super tender and sooooo yummy. If you're also into a sweet and savory dish the fried whole branzino definitely was made for you. It was more on the sweet side and super yummy almost like a bite sized finger food vs something you need to cut in order to eat it. Their Bún Cha Hanoi was super tasty as well but it's perfect for solo people or a share dish between two since it comes with two spring rolls and 4-6 meatballs to share a small amount of vermicelli. This is definitely my go to in Vietnamese cuisine and they executed it in an elevated manner as well. The sauce of the meatballs are so addicting and you just wanna dip your lettuce wraps in it. The fried dough was a good call as it soaked up the pho soup and tasted sooooo good. I highly recommend doing that! Other notable mentions we had were the crab fried rice and shaking beef! They weren't bad but by the time they got to the table we were super full. I tried them and I like them but I would necessarily order again. Our bill came out to around 85 pp for a 6 person table and we left completely full and satisfied with takeaway boxes! Could not have had a better meal with a large group! read more
When I say that I found the best Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of NYC, I really mean it! La Dong is a Michelin guide Vietnamese restaurant located in Union Square with so many restaurants to choose from. I tried coming in once during dinner but I had no luck with the line being so long! My second time, I came during lunch and just about rush hour and since I went alone, I was waiting for a seat at the bar. After 20 minutes of people watching and enjoying their food, I got my seat! The hospitality is amazing and they welcome you from the very beginning despite a busy restaurant! I ordered just the A5 Wagyu Pho for $36. Yeah I know, it a steep price for a Pho in the heart of NYC, but trust me it's so worth! First of all, they bring the dry pho and you get to watch them pour their lovely long simmered clear pho soup, that was unexpected!! The soup is so light and clean. You can tell a soup has been simmered for a long period of time with the transparent, and rich flavor! The perfectly cooked thick noodle was such a good choice as it paired perfectly with the soup. The meat was thinly sliced and it didn't feel overwhelmed as sometimes meats for a Pho can be thick and a bit overwhelming A5 just melts your mouth as you take a slice, and enjoy it with the rich pho. I wish I had more people to go with to try some other things but that would mean I need to go back! I highly recommend this restaurant to my family and friends if they are craving Vietnamese food in NYC! read more
One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the city! There are plenty of traditional dishes here that you won't find elsewhere, though many with a modern twist. Service is friendly and the restaurant is bright and comfortable. I've been a few times and wouldn't mind going again. Some of my favorite dishes: - The banh xeo is crisp, almost like a hard taco, and packed with flavor. The accompanying sauce is delicious as well. - The bun cha hanoi contains pork patties that are packed with flavor. - The baguettes used and wonderful -- soft and warm with a nice bite on the outside. - Before your food arrives, the free shrimp crackers come with an amazing chili paste that tastes incredible and leaves you ready to eat more. Even the dishes I didn't like as much were objectively well made, nicely presented, and unique in their own right. There's plenty to try here and you wouldn't want to miss it! read more

Came by La Dong and tried the Wagyu pho. The broth was really well done -- clean, flavorful, and not overly heavy. You can tell they take their time with it. Noodles and overall balance were solid too. Only thing for me is I tend to eat pretty high protein, and the Wagyu portion felt a bit light. Next time I'd probably go with the regular beef pho and just ask for extra meat to make it more filling. Service was smooth and low-key, and the space is comfortable without trying too hard. Overall, a solid spot I'd come back to. read more

Pretty good! Only did delivery but flavors were all there. Large servings and well-packaged and prepared. I like the spring rolls, and appreciated their twist of them not having pork (?) and only crab and shrimp. When we were visiting New York it was winter and we were really craving pho. Stumbled upon this place by accident and it ended up being delicious! Btw pho is the most goated food to exist. Sprint to La Dong the next opportunity you're able to. We came here for one of my fiancé's birthday dinners (we celebrate birthweek instead of just birthday, so there's a lot of dinner to attend to that week), and his go-to birthday meal is duck. The meal starts off with this rice crisp chip thing with a soy sauce something. Had no idea what it was, but enjoyed it. Any time a restaurant brings a free snack to the table to start you off is a win in 2025. Our table of 4 shared the spring rolls which were ABSOLUTELY divine. Crisp on the outside, soft and yum on the inside. Great sauce. For dinner, I got the vegetable pho - back when I ate meat I loved pho but haven't seen a veggie version in years. It was mushroom forward and SO good. I got an egg with mine which is always a highlight. Fiancé got the duck and he said, "this is one of the best ducks I've ever had in my life," which is an incredible rarity for him to say. He got a side of peanut sauce alongside the duck and was levitating above the table. We finished it off with a coconut icecream adorned with birthday candles, and we even tried to avocado icecream. Avocado icecream is honestly exactly what you would expect - so creamy and SO green. Good nonetheless, would def have it again. The only downfall is just how loud the restaurant is. The general ambience of the space is beautiful and the tables are unnaturally large and spacious for Manhattan, but the actual loudness level was so much so that is was hard to hear across the table. This upscale French-Vietnamese cuisine right at the heart of Chelsea in Manhattan did not disappoint. The place is bustling, so making reservations is recommended to avoid date night disappointments. We came slightly early to our reservation time without a problem; the place is packed and festive. We started with our favorite drinks with complimentary crisps and umami dipping sauce; we thought that was a nice touch! We then started with chicken liver mousse and bone marrow served with baguette and crispy calamari; we thought that the pâté and bone marrow really stood out. My eyes then caught Bun cha Hanoi, the dishes Barack Obama and Anthony Bourdain had when they visited Vietnam, while my partner chose classic chicken pho. We love this classic French-Vietnamese cuisine and we look forward to trying other dishes on their menu; the staff are friendly and attentive, making this place highly recommended. read more

I see a decent amount of reviews wishing that the pho would come with herbs and sauces that most pho places provide. It's because this place is serving Ha Noi style, northern Vietnam, pho. Even if you go to north Vietnam you won't get herbs and sauces. With that in mind, the flavor profile is also different. If you're looking for a southern Vietnam pho (most pho places in America serve this style), this place will not be it for you. I've had Northern style pho at other NYC restaurants, and I will say this one is the best. The broth is deep and flavorful. It's served at the right temperature. They also use fresh noodles, which is hard to pull off in my opinion. The quality of the meats is also better. The portion is really small. I have small hands and it's the size of my hand. I do want to revisit to try their chicken pho because that is what Ha Noi is famous for. The crispy spring rolls were a bit too oily, but it was packed with meat. I came as a walk-in and was seated at the bar. I ordered the classic pho with a side of bone marrow. The bone marrow was delicious, I ate some right out of the bone and put the rest in my pho. The pho was fine. It didn't blow my mind and for the price, I prefer the pho I have at my local mom and pop pho shop. There wasn't a lot of noodles, but the broth was excellent. I saw this place on social media a lot and I finally scratched the itch and came on a free and cold day - perfect pho weather. The interior was very pretty, quite loud and smelled delicious. However, I think this was overpriced as I had better pho with larger portions at random Vietnamese. read more

Walked in without a reservation on a busy Thursday night. Waited 10 minutes and sat at the bar. Got the pomelo salad and the shaking beef entree. Both were incredible! Fresh, good portions, and exquisite flavor profiles that had my palate very excited. All staff were very friendly and enhanced the experience. Pricing is fair, and loved the ambiance on the inside. Would definitely come here again! read more
