This restaurant, winner of top chef, let's do this!

There are times when you know the food as well as the atmosphere is going to be right. La Fisheria is definitely one of those places where you know its on point. For starters I shared a salmon and beets concoction that was amazingly refreshing and yet it was enough to get me full. But you know that is not happening right now, as there is way to much food on this menu for me to be a punk and just give up on an appetizer! No sir that is not happening. Also please note that this restaurant is the idea and concept of TV's own Top Chef. He is very much resected and knows his way around food. I had the seafood pozole and can I just say this was very different when it comes to pozole. I was amazed and yet intrigued by the flavors set forth. Of course I was expecting a pozole taste, but it was different being seafood. And the flavors definitely balanced themselves out, this is a sign of a great chef indeed. Just enough spice but toned down enough so that the regular Joe can enjoy it and not cringe when you see seafood in it. Very well balanced indeed. I highly recommend waiting to sit on the edge of the street because people watching here can be nothing but amazing. We had ringside seats of young guys doing their acrobatics of dance. Many of the items on the menu are for sharing but of course if you are hungry, kiss the sharing right out the door.

While vacationing in Playa de Carmen, we were craving fish and decided to try La Fisheria and we were not disappointed. My wife ordered the whole fish plate and she loved it. I tried the fish tacos and they were amazing. One of our friends told the waitress to suppress him and he was blown away with four different dishes she served him. As for the atmosphere it was just ok, nothing special but the food was defiantly satisfying.

They had a sign outside advertising 2 for 1 margaritas so we decided to dine for dinner. The 2 for 1 margaritas are per person so just know that. The margaritas were so weak I'm not even sure there was tequila in them. We ordered the ceviche which looked beautiful but wasn't the best tasting. The fish tacos however were fantastic!

My friend and I had dinner here when we were on vacation and we absolutely loved our food. My shrimp was so fresh and the avocados were so delicious. The service was super friendly. The dessert was nice and crispy. I wish there was more vanilla ice cream but we loved our dinner experience.

It was alright... nithing amazing and for the price you can find similar quality for a bit less. Service was ok. The hugest con was the noise level given its next to senior frog.

my oh my, are these some of the best fish tacos you will ever have! located on the world famous 5th avenue in playa del carmen, this place will not disappoint! be sure to order the fish ceviche and do not pass on the fish broth .. those shooters definitely get the taste buds going!

Looks like a huge piece of shrimp, awesome cause its shrimp soup.

I understand covid, i understand a chef having a bad day. But when im drinking my soup and a plastic bag ends up in my mouth all i see is a bunch of lazy scumbags. Save your money and eat somewhere that doesn't include trash in their food.

I went to this place yesterday for lunch...They're open for both lunch and dinner. It was a great experience! All the seafood dishes were fresh and unique in there own way. See pictures. The service was impeccable, they were attentive to our every need. If you like spicy, the table has like 5-6 local hot sauces on it, but the BEST stuff comes from the waiter! I told him I likeed REALLY spicy and he brought me out this little dish of what looked like balsamic vinegar....THIS STUFF WAS BANGING!!!!!! I put it on everything I ate and it REALLY enhanced the flavors plus gave it some kick! Anyways, it was all around a good experience and I'd definitely go back....Oh yeah! My only gripe for this place, is BRING PESOS!!! If you pay with American money, they have their "own" exchange rate, which is complies BS. Other then the restaurant taking advantage of people not paying with local currency all was good.

Loved this place. Jacobo our waiter was very kind and treated us nicely. Food was savory, I had the Al Pastor Shrimp Tacos and picked on my friends Fish, everything was delicious

Great food but really pricy! The chef stamp is now too expensive! Food is great and service is perfect but you get similar food in Playa at cheaper prices... The octopus dish was not big enough, the fried fish was perfectly cooked and a really good portion! The pitaya drink with mint and vodka as daily special was unique and refreshing!

This place is the perfect example of the Mexican nouvelle cuisine, let me explain.... everything here is 100% Mexican food but cooked, prepared or seasoned in a non traditional way, trying to make it different, with great taste and I would say even fun to try and eat. The chips with octopus are a MUST in this place and the ceviche fisheria is to die for.

This was prob the best food we had while in Mexico! If you wanted to break away from the traditional tacos and fajitas, this is the place. Seafood at its best! We had Camarones habanero y limon (habanero shrimp), atun salvaje (wild tuna), and pesca del dia con yuca (fish of the day). The shrimp was superb!! The others weren't that far behind. The portions could have been a little more generous. The semi outdoor seating was nice. Got a good breeze and you could also people watch.

The food was good and the experience would have been nice but they were pushy with the tip off the bat and just kinda ruined things for me.

I guess they weren't prepared for it to be this busy on a Wednesday night. The food was all really good, except for the fish. It was grilled well but tasted a bit dry. Only the top of the fish that was covered in sauce had flavor but it didn't seep through to the bottom of the fish. I recommend getting the Seafood Ceviche because they make it with coconut milk, which was different from all the other ceviches we had on our trip. Then came the whole fried fish -- crispy, golden, incredibly fresh, and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, jalapeños, and a charred lime on the side. It was so delicious I could barely put my fork down! The owner himself came out to check on us -- so kind, humble, and genuinely passionate about his food. Everything is made with the freshest local ingredients, and it shows in every bite. The flavors are bright, authentic, and unforgettable. ICTIO is an absolute must. The entire restaurant, including the bar, is literally set in the sand, with tables right on the water just a few feet from the ocean. It's barefoot, toes in the sand dining done right, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. We did have one hiccup in the evening due to a rowdy group from a drone company that was extremely intoxicated and invasive of our space. Their belongings kept ending up on our table, and there were drunk men taking their shirts off and doing shots just a few feet away. Not sure if they didn't have enough tables or what, but we had made a reservation to celebrate a special event months in advanced, so it was a bit irritating. The servers eventually handled it and intervened multiple times, but at no point were they asked to move or relocate. Once that group settled down, the night became a much more enjoyable experience. We were a party of 12, and every single person raved about both their food and drinks. For drinks we had: Prickly Pear: Made with Orange Blossom Condesa Gin, St Germain, fresh lemon juice, rosemary syrup, mint, and strawberry. Bright and refreshing, though it came with more foam on top than expected. Coco Loco: A fresh whole coconut with Patrón Silver tequila, vodka, rum, gin, pineapple juice, and coconut cream. A true showstopper. Don't be intimidated by the mix of liquor, it is smooth, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. No hangovers were had. Espresso Martini: Simple and clean with a light foam. Well executed, but not a signature cocktail compared to the others. For food we had: We were surprised with an amuse bouche of huitlacoche, often called Mexican truffle. It's a corn fungus with a rich, earthy flavor and this small bite was outstanding and set the tone for the meal. Queso Fundido: Oaxaca cheese with chorizo and flour tortillas. Great flavor, but very thick, making it a bit messy and difficult to serve. Guacamole: Prepared with tomato, onion, cilantro, and cotija cheese. Perfectly seasoned, fresh, and especially enjoyable paired with the queso fundido. Brisket: Served in chileatole sauce with huitlacoche truffle, carrots, and cotija cheese. Comforting, rich, and deeply flavorful. Robalo Guayaba: Guava sea bass served in guava sauce with chiltepín chili. Beautifully cooked with just a little too much sweetness and citrus. It would have benefited from a little bit of heat, or a vegetable or side to pair it with, as it is not served with anything other than a cooked slices of lemon. Creme Brulee Mexicano: A rice pudding infused crème brûlée with caramel and vanilla ice cream. A thoughtful twist on the classic, with the rice pudding adding depth and warmth to the dessert. Knocked down to 4 stars due to the rowdiness of some surrounding guests. We were seated on the sand and needed to walk through the entirety of the restaurant, but people without tables or reservations were standing in the middle of walkways and sitting on the steps down to the beach, many too intoxicated to stand up. I'm hopeful this is not the usual clientele, and I would return for the quality of the food, drinks, and the gorgeous setting.
