This is easily the worst-maintained gym I've been to in Arizona. The bathrooms are consistently dirty, and overall cleanliness is clearly not a priority. I showed up for Aqua Fit multiple times in the last month, and the water was so cold that it turned my lips blue. This made the class completely unenjoyable. J. Rock is a good instructor, but the water is so cold that no one else working there, especially in management, truly cares. The Manager knows there is a problem and has let the issue go on for months. Instead of showing up early and checking in the morning to ensure it's a tolerable temperature or having someone show up and record the temperature, ensuring it's at least tolerable, he continues to say they are "working on it". If you have another class/gym location I recommend using that one as this Mesa location is so awful I would recommend trying someplace else. If it wasn't for J Rock being a 5-Star instructor this place would deserve negative stars or at least a zero! read more

I am writing this review because the cleaning lady "Emma" was very rude to me while she was cleaning. She not only scoffed at me to move out of her way but she scolded me as well. It would be nice if she would mind her own business, find something else besides policing paying customers maybe focus on having a better attitude with us. When I told the operations manager "Charles" about her he did absolutely nothing. He looked checked out as if he was just there to pass the time. I am from out of town so luckily I will not be back and if you are reading this please go to a different location because these staff in the afternoon are beyond repair. read more

This location is very good for only one reason, it opens for 24/7. The staff are wonderful. However, %65 of The treadmill machines are off or need maintenance. The bathrooms and locker rooms are so dirty. As a matter of a fact, there are insects crawling at those locations. The steaming room is also dirty and muddy as well. The fountain water cooler does not work. The Internet has not been fixed for two weeks and every time I asked them to fix it they say they're waiting for the management in California to respond to them. What's great about this gym is that it is open 24 hours unlike many LA Fitness locations. The place is decent in terms of cleanliness, but it can do better. It's hard to get a couple of the treadmills to work because the buttons won't press so it's a bit of a hassle to go from treadmill to treadmill to find something that worked after sanitizing each machine myself. As for signing up, this girl from the front desk a few months back attempted to sign me up, but she didn't know what she was talking about regarding the prices and questions that I was asking until one of the associates in charge came in and took over. The girl seemed really nice so I had no problem with her even if she didn't know much, but the guy who took over the sign up was extremely rude to her and telling me that "She shouldn't be signing people up, she doesn't know what she is doing" with this annoyed face and went on and on. Even if he is knowledgeable, I just really didn't appreciate how he was treating his colleague and it made me feel uncomfortable conversing with him. But aside from that, the other individuals working there whom I have interacted with seemed nice and had great personalities. read more

This location is great to get a late night workout in since it's open 24/7. The free weights are dated, as well as many of the machines. Personally, I don't care whether gym equipment is older it's all the same to me. This location does have a trx setup that is great for pull-ups. The basketball courts are below average so prepare to wipe your sneakers often during play. Also, the roof in the gym leaks when it is raining. Avoid this location if you want to ball on a rainy day. There are good pickup games daily around 5 p.m. Sunday people start hooping around 4 p.m. and run games until around 8 p.m. If you're in the area and looking for decent pick-up basketball games, this would be a good gym location to start visiting. read more

Update 2019. After emailing corporate, we now have FNC and CNN for the righties and lefties, + ESPN for those who are tired of arguing.... Still a lot of trash on the floors and in the bathrooms, but I guess that is because of all the momma's boys we have at the gym who are too busy poofing thier hair and admiring their biceps in the mirrors to wipe the sinks when they are done. Ever get the feeling that some people have the wrong expectations about gyms (and gym memberships for that matter)? Reading through some of the other reviews, I would say that could be the case. This gym is nicer than most gyms out there and has a very new feel to it. It used to be a 24 Hour Fitness so you will see some of the dumbbells clearly labeled as such... but the weights and equipment are in really good condition and relatively clean! And it has all the amenities of other LA Fitness locations (that a lot of gyms do not have)... like a pool and a basketball court. My only knock on this LA Fitness location is the lack of some of the equipment that I typically find (and use) at many other LA Fitness locations. There could definitely be another squat rack (or two)... and a second decline bench would be helpful during those busier gym times. Locker room (men's) not cleaned in literally days, trash overflowing, floors with crusted foot powder, sinks gross, several urinals don't flush, often no soap available and staff that seems to think this is normal. This club is sooo dirty! The dumb bells have a stench to them. All you have to do is walk near them and you'll smell it. The locker room is in a constant state of filth and also has a less than pleasant odor. It's hard to feel clean even after a shower. The shower heads are like something you find at a beach, nothing subtle, just a skin ripping blast nozzle. Lastly, the steam room/ sauna has likely never been disinfected and rarely mopped out. I've encountered a man shaving in there, band-aids on the floor, and water bottles always. Since I started coming here and bringing my toddler to the kids corner, my son is sick all the time. It was to be expected with any day care type setting but I just have to wonder if the same lack of effort and cleanliness of the club could be playing a role in the kids corner too.. read more

4 star review for how AWESOME the kid zone is! I was super impressed at how spacious the kid area is. My kids didnt want to leave when it was time to go. Once I got out on the floor i was happy with the large selection of machines and equipment. Lost a star because the women's restroom was not clean at all and i figured that sometime during the 2 hours i was there it would have been looked at or cleaned or something and it wasn't it looked like it was neglected for longer than just the morning time. This is my favorite LA fitness, it is the only one with both a sauna and a steam room, that I've found. The club is 24 hours which leaves no excuses for feeling the burn! The guy, Thaddeus, who signed me up here is super outgoing and amazing at answering all questions& solving all issues! I would recommend this club! I've been going to this facility for 3 years since it was 24 hour fitness. I wasn't a fan at first because it was a pretty quick take over and we weren't informed of the change until a week before it happened. I've been coming off and on for years, never cancelling my membership. I finally got in for my free assessment (way long over due) and met with Peter for the first appointment. Peter pushed me like I'd never been pushed before and I loved every second of it. His encouragement and style of training got me to realize that I was doing my work outs all wrong. I signed up for training where I get 6 appointments a month and I haven't looked back. The front end staff are kind, genuine, and help me find my trainer if I can't. Their trainers are helpful, knowledgeable, and understand what motivates each person differently. Maybe 60% of their treadmills work 100% of the time, their bathrooms don't get cleaned often enough, and the water fountains almost always have residue from somebody's pre-workout. So do they have their problems? Yes. But there are ways to work around it if you're serious about your physical well being. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! FYI-long poor review to follow: LA Fitness is an example of a business model failure. Their only goal is to increase their profit, they do not care about their customers. Unfortunately, there are too many customer service and equipment violations to site. However, I'll mention a few. My boyfriend and I started a fitness plan for me and after 3 solid months of working out together the management approaches him and says, he is training me and proceeds to completely disrespect us and argue for almost an hour and revoke our memberships because we objected to their accusations. We were informed by other members working out with their best friends etc this was happening and that they were also "disciplined". Secondly, their staff is treated abhorrently! They hire the greatest staff, for the most part, and proceed to overwork them and might as well not pay them at all because it's substantially under the minimum wage but they get away with it by saying it's commission, which only few are talented enough to exploit. Third, for the price customers pay and the condition of other gyms their equipment is outdated and not the cleanest. This location in particular constantly has issues with cardio machines. Lastly for any of the executives reading this which you probably don't; I have a International Business Degree and I could write an extensive case study with LA Fitness as my example to how NOT to run a business. This place is so filthy. I cancelled my membership. I'm considering contacting the health department, no joke. It's that bad. A water bottle sat in one machine for 6 days, there are dirty paper towels and Kleenexes on the floor at the base of machines, and it looks like you could get hepatitis in the lockeroom/bathroom. The water fountains are disgusting, as are the screens and buttons of the machines. All covered with sweat, splatters, workout powders, who knows what... I now have to drive 15 min to the gym instead of 2 min, which sucks, but I just couldn't handle it anymore. read more

Okay. Second LA Fitness I visited in the Phoenix area. There's a trend for the cleanliness of the places. The trend is horribly maintained and cleaned. I enjoyed my training session with Daniel. I'm rather stubborn and don't like being told what to do, but I didn't feel like Daniel yelled at me or was mean at all. He did even made me laugh once or twice and helped spark my motivation to push myself. I have dealt with running injuries for the last year and it's been frustrating to be out of shape and unable to return to competitive running. Daniel has a background in physical therapy and understands the healing process, but doesn't let you just sit on the sideline. From him, I learned the basics of foam rolling, which I always tried to incorporate into my fitness routines, but did not know the correct way to do so safely. I now feel more confident when rolling out my muscles that I'm not going to hurt myself causing further damage. He also showed me some important strength training moves that - overtime would help build up my muscles to help prevent future injuries. My running injuries were caused from overuse. I liked to run 4-6 days a week when I was training and my final long distance race was enough to put me over the edge. I want to give Daniel a huge thank you for showing me a different side of recovery. I spent months at physical therapy, but it never fixed the problem completely and I still felt pains when working out. I believe that Daniel is right and I need to continue to strengthen my muscles if I want to beat this injury and return to running one day. I would recommend Daniel if you are looking for an awesome trainer in Mesa or Tempe! read more

The general manager is rude and will not try to work thing out with you... I would rather go to other gym first before you try this one out. Some of the sale guy here is great for offering you membership. But WATCH OUT FOR ALL THE FEE YOU WILL GET A LOADED FEE BILL ON EVERYTHING! This is a converted LA Fitness from 24 Hr Fitness. I've been to several LA Fitness locations that have been converted from 24 Hr Fitness. All (3 in total that I've been to) are terrible and it is very obvious that 24 Hr did not have high expectations on the cleanliness of their gyms. I am disgusted by all the old 24 Hr Fitness gyms, but this location, which I use only because I work within walking distance, is TERRIBLE! I went last night and there was no soap (in the showers) or paper towels in the men's locker room. The showers have broken knobs, shower heads, and soap dispensers! So, I go again this morning. Same thing! No paper towels to dry my hands. There are four hand dryers. Two at normal height and two up the wall much higher than normal. I am 6'5", so I have no problem with the high dryers (which are taller than me!), but they do not work! I go into the shower there is a wet, used paper towel on the ground in the corner of the shower. I go to another stall. No knob. I go to another stall, and like the two before, no soap, but at least it works! Good thing I carry my own soap just in case! After I got dressed I went over the the manager and complained and told her I would be writing a Yelp review to destroy this place because LA Fitness should be ashamed of themselves for putting their name on this disgusting location! LA Fitness needs to remodel the 24hr Fitness brands and bring them up to speed with the other LA Fitness gyms that I frequent! None are anywhere close to as bad as these converted gyms! read more

The equipment in this gym is in bad shape and old now. The cleanliness of the place is still disgusting. The men's locker room is always super dirty and the women's locker room also per my wife's review. They simply don't hire enough cleaning people to keep up with the amount of people in and out of here daily. It's not the cleaning crew's fault. All la fitness gyms are primarily interested in people's signing up and never using the gym. If you pay attention to where the employees are, the sales desks are always packed with extra employees ready to sell you memberships but try finding people taking care of the locker rooms and gym, good luck. read more

This gym is located in a great area but all the equipment is horrible. I've been on treadmills several times that won't go down in speed only up or they don't even start. There's no squat bar covers, and the equipment doesn't appear to be cleaned well. They really need to replace out their equipment and put a little effort into the gym, after all it is a busy location. read more

Beyond functional. Lots of equipment. Lots of space. Like every gym, it could do to buy a few extra benches. I LOVE how many foam rollers they have. Easy enough parking lot. If you wanted to make an embodiment of all the stereotypes that are wrong with the fitness industry, that embodiment would be LA Fitness. We have had a number of issues with LA Fitness. To keep this short we were lied to about personal training contracts which set off a cascade of events. We had personal training for a year with LA. We workout out at the gym at Riverview with Greg, and then they fired him. They we worked out with Morgan, and then they fired him. The gym at Riverview fired all of the trainers that were from 24 Hour Fitness in order to replace them with less experienced, and thus less expensive for the gym, trainers. But still charged us the Master Trainer rate even though no such trainer was available any longer. They claimed that the trainers were fired for other reasons however it's a well known practice to purge old staff and also it's really coincidental that all of and only the trainers from 24 Hour Fitness were fired throughout the year. When that expired we went to cancel our training and were told, at the time of signing, that we could use any banked sessions after canceling. The personal training manager at the gym on Riverview (Peter) told us this was not the case and to prevent our 16 banked sessions from expiring 30 days later we could change our contract to one session per month. We did. After that we could never get in with our trainer. We would show up to discover that he was working with someone else, we would schedule times with him and then they would mysteriously fall off the schedule, and we even noticed that we were being charged for sessions with other trainers that we didn't book. We believe that Peter was filling our trainer's schedule with new clients and pushing us off since we were on our way out. When talking to Peter he was sure to inform us of his salary and that to keep his position he needs to keep his body fat under a certain percentage. I spoke with James T. (VP of Personal Training) and we worked out a deal. We were refunded some of the sessions we had banked and could keep the balance without them expiring. We had to take a few months off of lifting due to an injury so this was a great arrangement. When we went to use the sessions we were told they had expired. I contacted James to get them back. After four weeks and five voice messages James never called me back. I emailed the customer service email and they eventually called me. They only gave me 3 sessions back. I told them this was unacceptable as we should have had 4 and that I would not allow them to just steal the session. I then received a call from the Regional Operations Manager for Phoenix. He agreed to refund us for the one session that was still in dispute. We went to the gym on Stapley/University to use our three sessions. We were very specific about what we wanted. All we needed at this time was help to perfect squat and deadlift form. We were told that Joseph is the guy for that. We scheduled a time to work with Joseph. We showed up as scheduled and the front desk informed us that he doesn't work at that time. We checked the schedule in the app to find out that somebody moved our appointment with Joseph from a saturday to a thursday without contacting us. We then rescheduled a time with Joseph. When we met Joseph for our session he very arrogently and aggressively scolded me for asking him to only help us with form. "That's not how training works, if you're going to work out with me I'm going to make your plan and you're going to do what I say." We spoke with the manager and he told me we could either work out with Joseph or not, but that we would be charged for the session. We were very specific when we scheduled the session that we did not want him to make a plan and that all we needed was help with our form. I chose not to challenge this because I was tired of having to speak with people in upper management to resolve issues caused in the gym and this was the third strike for LA Fitness. We were charged the session and we will simply allow the last two sessions to go unused rather than giving LA another opportunity to disappoint us. We have canceled our membership and will work out at a different gym moving forward. Throughout our time at LA Fitness we have been treated as a bank for which to remove money. The service has been terrible, we have been continually lied to, being scolded and talked down to by a person whom I paid $100 per hour to work out with was the last straw. I will not miss LA Fitness. My best recommendation is to avoid LA Fitness. read more

This is the WORST LA fitness I've ever been to. Benches and equipment are broken, not enough weights for the equipment that is functional. The dressing room is had garbage and debris all over the floor. It's a shame that this is the only 24 hour LA Fitness in the area. Went to LA fitness on Rio Salado just to checkout what they have to offer. Ashley the GM gave me a tour, very friendly and very pretty, very informative on different routines within in the gym. This isn't a very good LA. It pales in comparison to the one in Scottsdale at Hayden and McCormick that I went to for 3 years. There's only one real leg press (that you can load barbells on) and two squat racks. There are no paper towels or any hand sanitizer in the whole gym. Not a germaphobe, but sweaty hands on bars with no ability clean them without going into the locker room is inconvenient/gross. Also the vibe from a lot of the patrons of this gym can be weird. There was some dude the other day straight up ordering people around on how to rerack weights, telling them to get out of his way etc. Lots of mean mugging, just not really a friendly place. The staff is very nice so nothing against them, but I'm ending membership as I found a different place closer and I just don't like this particular LA. read more

Bathrooms are disgusting, no paper towels, no toilet paper, no soap, paper towels are scattered all over the floor because there's no toilet paper, and the trash cans overflowing. The only positive to this place is that it used to be a 24 hour fitness so it has an open floor plan and doesn't make you feel claustrophobic like most LA Fitnesses. I really liked this la fitness at first but it's really gone downhill. About once a week I get approached by some sort of sales person on my way out the door. They are inside the building and have gone as far as to position themselves between me and the door to keep me talking to them. They will start talking to me even after I have headphones in and say I'm not interested. I'd expect this crap if the membership was free but I pay good money to workout here. I've also seen them go days without replacing torn pad covers on machines. read more

This is the best LA Fitness I've been to, and I want to give a very well-deserved shoutout to Chez. I have been receiving personal training sessions from him for about 5 months after taking a 4-year hiatus due to injury. Chez has been professional, enthusiastic, and extremely consistent during every one of our interactions. I am most impressed with his ability to gage my capabilities and cater my workouts accordingly. I have noticed that my core is stronger and I am holding my body differently. My iPhone was stolen straight outta my gym bag at this location. Its probably someone that I see everyday. How scary is that ! Please DO NOT leave your stuff un attended even if it's to walk to get water two feet away!!
