I came here right after I landed and checked into my hotel in Paris. Open late night, right at a prime location across the Musee d'Orsay - the food is absolutely fantastic to top it all off. If you are a fan of confit de canard or magret de canard - this place would win double-stars from you. I had both dishes and they were spot on. The ambiance is quite charming, the service is very good, and it was a great place to have dinner and catch up with people. If you are in town and looking for a great place to eat at any time of day, this place wins it, hands down. Next time I'm in town, I'll definitely visit again. read more

The space and layout of this place is beautiful. They have high ceilings and molded walls with beautiful background scenery. Also, they have a prime location near several museums. While the price and service here is great, the food is only okay. We ordered the escargot and skirt stake. The Escargot was good, but my husband hated the stake he ordered. I also had a cappuccino which also, wasn't that good, but the deserts are pretty tasty. Overall, this place is hit or miss, but I do suggest stopping by even if it is just for the views of the space and a dessert! read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! Doesn't deserve a star at all. Ordered the chicken and the duck. The chicken tasted like Salisbury turkey and the duck tasted like rubber. Our waiter was not accommodating after we spoke up about the duck claiming that since it was already partly eaten only after tasting it, that he wouldn't be able to switch it out. My friend had her wedding rehearsal dinner here. We had a 30+ person space to ourselves, but it was still rather public and not good for toasts or anything like that. The food was good, but a month later, I can't even remember most of what we ate. It was good but didn't blow any of us away. The frog legs were good but not the best, a few too many bones. The salmon was the best portioned dish. However, what we do remember is that our wine glasses were always full, and the service was stellar. read more

I really enjoy this place. I have visited twice on separate business trips to Paris. They have probably one of the best magret de canard (duck breast) dishes in Paris! It comes with a delicious raspberry sauce and mashed potatoes. If you're in the area, I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

A great dining experience. La Fregate is located in a very convenient location for tourists. I thought it might be a tourist trap, but I had a fine dining experience. I sat outside facing the Seine river and I felt like I was experiencing the definition of French culture of people watching. I am normally very generous about giving good stars but this place was not what I was expected. I ordered escargot and duck confit and beef bourgeoning. Price was good but my duck was very disappointing it was little too salty and meat was little tough. Everyplace I go for duck confit was soft n not salty I do understand they make different way but this... Don't order this.. Although potatoes that came with was wow... So good just not duck! Of course La Fregate is somewhat expensive, but the location alone is priceless. You can hardly avoid it when wandering around Paris, so why even try. The fact is, they have whatever you need morning, afternoon and evening. I love this place. read more

Our least favorite dining experience in Paris. While the food was good, we seemed to have been frowned upon for each ordering only one edible item each. I got the delicious filet de cabillaud and my gal pal ordered a foie gras as she needed her fix. The waiter had a micro-second "that's it?" stance with us, like the place wasn't largely empty and he didn't want to bother himself with some lightweight diners. Sorry, man: 10pm is not the time to pack in a ton of food. The ambiance though - I will give them that. Aside from a lovely corner spot with large windows and a quaint basement bathroom, they have a luxurious view of the walkway and I believe the d'Orsay museum. Some lovely structure or other. Despite my broken French, we managed well with the snooty waiter. I'd advise stopping by if you're ready to order a larger meal. Bon appetit! read more

La Fregate has become our home away from home. We stop off before returning to out hotel at night for a drink or wine and cheese plate. The traditional French fare is excellent. The service is good depending upon who you get. If you are outside, there may be a chance they forget about you. Especially in the winter. But overall, a great place. It was pouring and we were hungry so we stopped. Right along the Seine, between two museums, makes this bistro perfect for a dejeuner and a pause. Even though the place was busy, we were well attended and allowed to take our time. The staff was super friendly to us and courteous to those less respectful patrons. And the food was exactly what we needed: delicious and French. I had delectable duck confit with yummy potatoes and meaty mushrooms. The dish was savory and decadent, simple and satiating. We finished off our extended lunch with a warmed slice of Tarte Tatin topped with a boule of ice cream. The apples were browned and the sugar caramelized for a mature twist. It was a perfect ending as the sweet tart balanced the saltiness of the main. The rose helped as well. read more

I love them & loved me! And we actually came into this Brasserie to dine later than is customary in Paris. But they were most gracious and accommodating. Our waiter spoke a touch of English but no matter as he was funny and helpful as we needed his suggestions and as an excellent French waiter he was happy to make recommendations. If you don't know any French or can't navigate a menu ask for an English menu. Sometimes resturants offer them. Great location and the interior is very beautiful with the high fillings w painted motifs, brass railings, linens and nicer place settings, high windows w a relaxed ambience. Wonderful wines by the glass. The prices here are excellent too! Prix fix or á la cart. The escargot onion soup, duck confit, and 1/2 chicken w frites were all very good but the steak was well let's say not like what steak lovers enjoy in the U.S. Location, atmosphere, service and reasonable. Solid, delicious meal in a great location. Right around the corner from Musée d'Orsay and right across the Seine from the Louvre. We were particularly lucky because the full moon was up above the Louvre. Overall solid, good French restaurant food. We has oysters (which were very good, prepared well), steak poivre with pommes frites, and an amazing cassoulet. If you;re thinking about something, the cassoulet was fantastic with preserved duck, lamb, two kind of sausage, and lots of deliciousness. The waitstaff had the expected French condescension,at our barbarism but did a good job getting us set up and taking care of us and overall making us feel like there there to serve us and give us a good time. read more

The onion soup is probably the best I have ever had- all bubbly and cheesy and bready YUM The inside of the restaurant is really beautiful with painted ceilings. This is where I go for a glass of wine in the afternoon when I don't go to Le Depart. They have a baccus, which I can't spell, but I can drink. It is a glass that is about a half bottle of wine, so I am always glad that I don't have a car when I live in paris. Their onion soup is good better than Le Depart but not nearly as good as at Café du Metro ( which I haven't reviewed yet). Like Le Depart, Frégate is on the river, in this case, at the end of Pont Royal and, therefore, right across from Le Louvre. We went there on 4th october afternoon @ 1:30P.M. A very unhappy experience ! 1. There is a choice called {menu midi} @ about 19 euro which includes a plat, a side dish & dessert. (This menu is available for all workdays from12pm to 2pm)We wanted that.however the ignorant waiter said it's not available. Excusez Moi? I think maybe he don't like my Asian face. I see Every other table can order "midi menu" , WTG? 2. He said I can only order a la carte.... fine ,but it is not the end of the story. " anything to drink, sir" I answered no,just chilled water. And it turns out and opened Evian for another 5 euro put on my table even though i see others have normal free chilled water on their table. 3. I can smell the flavor of beer in our water glass,maybe they didn't wash it. So disgusting! The food was not exceptional. But it was just that. It was my first time having rhe french onion soup. A load of cheese and baguette on the soup. Tasted very nice and scrumptuous. Not sure if thats how it is done though. The crepes did not have a lot of flavor besides the veggies inside. Even that was a bit flat tasting. The service was also ok. Decided to stop in for a bite to eat while enjoying the evening in Paris with my husband and son. When ordering wine, we decided to order a Bordeaux as we planned to have the beef Bourguignon, the waiter insisted that the top 2 wines were sold out. The next available Bordeaux was $95 a bottle. The other 2 were under $30 a bottle. Something was clearly off and didn't seem right ...we told the waiter we were not interested in ordering wine any longer as he kept recommending more expensive bottles... once it was clear we were no longer interested in his suggestions, the waiter said let me check...we may have one last bottle in the back I can find. We stopped things right there and asked that he please bring our check and we wanted to leave....16 euros later for our sons coke....we left. We felt scammed, we don't appreciate being treated badly because we are tourists in a foreign country. I would never recommend this place because of the unethical behavior to anyone. read more

The WORST meal I had in Paris. Possibly the worst onion soup I've had in my entire life. It was watery, like they deglazed a dirty pot and tried to pass it off as broth. Onions weren't browned so they offered little flavor. Cheese was bland, salt was lacking. I've had way better onion soup in Carmel (patisserie boisserie), San Jose (Left Bank) and Yountville, CA (Bistro Jeanty). Frisée salad aux lardons was watery and the lardons were uninspired little strips of bacon. Nothing special. Steak was overdone, even for medium rare. We thought maybe we just got unlucky, but saw a gentleman a few tables over also sawing away at his steak. Frites weren't crispy, but limp. We still had hope that dessert (apple gateau) would be good, but when it arrived that hope instantly vanished. It was ice cold, like it barely had enough time to defrost before being cut and plunked down on our table. It had no flavor whatsoever and was bland, bland bland. Overall, a horrible meal. I wanted to ask for my dinner appetite back so I could have a do-over elsewhere. Do NOT come here just because it's close to the Orsay or Lourve! Don't make the same mistake we did, unless you want infuriatingly bland food! I'm convinced that the closer a restaurant is located to a tourist attraction, the worse the food. read more

Came here as we were walking to the Louvre. Took a seat outside and were greeted by our server who didn't seem to really care about us all that much in a friendly manner. We ordered the lunch package and a bacon cheeseburger. The burger was decent, nothing to rave about and the chicken stew was fairly tasty. This is what people are talking about when they say Paris has rude waitstaff. We went in for a coffee and some food, but as soon as I ordered the coffee, the waiter said they were cash only and quickly walked away. He didn't even let my partner order food. We only spoke French to them, and we have good accents, but they only spoke English to seat us, then told us about the cash only in very fast French. Thy also brought us the bill with our coffee. An obviously native French couple behind us paid with a card and did not receive such brusque service, which they reserved for the tourists. The place is right next to the louvre and musée d'orsay, so I don't know what they're expecting aside from the tourists. The coffee was drinkable, which isn't saying much in Paris. We've been treated quite well everywhere else in Paris by waitstaff. I'm not quite sure what their problem is here. Don't bother with this place, you can throw a stone and hit 3 places worth your time from here. read more

Came here because it is close to Musée d'Orsay. Proved to be a big mistake. The waitress started asking for our orders before we even took off our jackets. Within the first 5 minutes or less, she asked another 3 times. She never brought us any bread either. The food looked good, but 3 out of the 4 dishes were overcooked, including the duck, steak, and salmon. The steak and duck can hardly be chewed. The French burger was nothing more than a piece of beef patty and lettuce between 2 pieces of buns. Bad service, terrible food, and poor experience. read more
