Service was fair. 3 of us had stuffed salmon with Bearnaise sauce and were ill by 2 am (typical food poisoning symptoms ... you know what I mean and UNPLEASANT). First timer tonight, read the reviews and went I. With an open mi D and not in a hurry. Best to have reservations but the wait was less than a half hour on Friday night. Live music was a little loud. Waitress admitted that it was her first night but she did great! Always try lasagna the first meal the first time to an Italian could place. If you can't get this right, it ain't worth coming back. Their lasagna was Fabulous! House salad was lame, no pepperocinis or olives but did I say the lasagna was Fabulous? Bread was great and the canolli was awesome. Service was really good her. I do have to say that the espresso was sub standard because the machine needs to be serviced. The atmosphere is romantic and comes with love music. The music is not overbearing to the atmosphere. I tried the seafood pasta with white wine sauce and it was good. Just good, not fantastic. The place is also pretty pricey. read more

I keep hoping to like La Gondola and have given it a few chances now. The food is pretty good, but takes a long time to get to the table. During my last visit it seemed like our waitress did not have a good routine down as we received our drinks and bread at almost the same time as our food. My biggest complaint is the price of the food compared to the amount you get. This is not a cheap restaurant and portions seem to be about half the size of other italian places. read more

Food was great, however the portions were on the small side. The service was very slow. Two pasta dishes took about an hour to come out and then it was about 40 minutes before the waiter came back around so that we could get the check. Simple dinner turned into a 2 hour experience. I was looking for a nice place to take my parents since it was a special occasion and I had a fair experience here before. Upon entering the restaurant it had a elegant atmosphere. Everything was nice until the happy hour crew started getting rowdy. We were sitting on the far wall away from the bar area and several times I had to stop mid-sentence to wait for the raucous to die down. This was very irritating because had I wanted to be in a sports bar atmosphere, I would have went to No-Frills Grill. I would expect such a nice place would discourage patrons from yelling out and disturbing other customers. The food was good and is the only saving grace for this place. Even the employees lacked class. Our waitress apparently forgot the first rule of waitressing which is "Never let the customers glass become empty". As my mother and I both sat waiting for our water glasses to be filled I caught the waitress's eye and held my glass up to signal to her. She acknowledged me and then proceeded to finish her lengthy conversation!! I couldn't believe it. This place is hit or miss, been there 3 times and ordered out once as I live right by it and there's not a lot of good sit down restaurants around here. Steak and bread is always spot on, when you finally get it. Italian food that the wife orders is subpar. Too much cheese and red sauce no good. Service mostly sucks and the men's restroom was dirty and out of soap. Really hope they got some in the kitchen. We saw some really fascinating lip singers who sound just like Pavarotti:) lemon cake is good but they don't make it there. My wife and I tried to eat at this restaurant, but first had difficulty in getting the host to seat us. After being seated, we then had difficulty on finding our waitress, plus the kid who filled our water glasses was not in a good mood at all. He never said a word to us. Wasn't very impressed at all. I had been told it was a good place to eat so we decided to try it out. When we first walked in, since we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait. It took at least 30 minutes for a table. I was thinking at this point "this better be good!" Once we sat down, the waitress immediately started pushing us to get alcoholic beverages. We don't drink so we politely said no. Then she kept on talking about how great the wine is, blah blah blah. I again said NO! That's where she went from being friendly to unhelpful and cold the rest of the night. Not even kidding. The food was average. Overall not a great experience. I would much rather go to olive garden in Mansfield and get great food and service than this stuck up place that isn't all that good and is definitely overpriced. I can see why this place has been in business for so long. It's a perfect spot for families to unwind and enjoy a nice, authentic meal after a long day. I don't know why I've avoided it for so long, being a long-time resident of Mansfield myself (I think Blue Mint next door has had my heart for awhile, haha). My mom and I went during the slow time, in-between lunch and dinner, which was perfect for enjoying our meal without lots of loud noise and interruptions (we arrived before the band showed up, thank God!) The restaurant is beautiful inside, nice, clean table cloths, glasses, and dinnerware, and you get a sort of romantic type of ambience as you sit down; it would be perfect for a date! There was one waitress in there running the place by herself and she was just awesome! (Too bad I didn't get her name!) The prices seemed reasonable, and on Tuesdays they have a 2 for $20 deal! I ordered the linguine vongole (clams) with white wine sauce, a Caesar salad for my side, and the Andes Mint cocktail--garlic bread came with the meal. The pasta was pretty good, it looked fabulous! I was expecting the sauce to be somewhat creamy, not quite alfredo but almost, that was okay, however. The salad was perfect with the cracked pepper on top! The garlic bread was toasty, crunchy, and cheesy. The drink I felt was overpriced at $9--it was okay, felt like it could have been prettier and more chocolate-y versus minty, but whatev. Didn't hit me until after my meal, haha. All in all, I think I would go back! If you're a resident of Mansfield give La Gondola a shot, don't wait like I did! read more

Terrible service from Mickey. He delivered our salads, and that was the last time we saw him until it was time for the bill. Our dinners were delivered by another waitress Susie. Susie asked if we needed more wine, Susie asked if our food was OK, Susie cleared our table. This was all while Mickey was bullshitting with the regulars. My husband tried this place for the 1st time last Sunday. Itlian food is not my favorite but this food, oh my, was so good. The fresh baked bread was so warm and yummy. My husband hand the chicken parmesan and I had the stuffed shrimp with angel hair pasta. The stuffed shrimp was one of the specials of the night so I assumed it was a special price but ended up being a $22 plate. It was worth every penny though! First off, if you are going there on a Friday or Saturday, make reservations. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table. The place was packed. We had the pasta with Alfredo sauce and linguine shrimp. Portions were not Italian grandmother size but it was enough to fill you up. Both dishes were very tasty. The service was a little slow but understandable considering every table was taken. While the garlic bread was good, it was nothing to write home about so I don't understand why other reviewers raved about it. Food was great. Waitress never greeted our table. Didn't know the name of our waitress. Didn't know how she looked. Bartender came to take our order. Someone set our food on our table and kept walking. We were never asked if we needed anything else. I had to call someone to tell them we were ready for the bill. Wow, what a HUGE disappointment. Have been here before and enjoyed the food. This time, however, Hostess had a terrible snarky attitude, extremely unwelcoming, rude, and condescending. Definitely a HUGE disappointment. To say that our party was completely shocked by the treatment is an understatement. Obviously, this restaurant does NOT value customers or want you to come back. Based on the attitude of the hostess, would not recommend unless it was to someone I wanted to have their evening absolutely ruined by someone with a very UNPLEASANT attitude. We were gracious, happy when we walked in, willing to wait- not in any hurry. We were treated as an inconvenience, disgusting attitude on the part of the "hostess". Will definetely take our business to other local establishments who "greet" customers, make a minimal effort, and at least act like they are glad we are there to spend $$$. Laura was the name we were given for this "hostess". She definitely needs some coaching/training for her position. She does not even come close to portraying what a "hostess" is. This place was great when it was Italian Villa, and it is just as good now that is is La Gondola. It's a bit on the pricey side, but the food is always top notch. We tried this place the other night and wo t be returning. There are better restaurants at this price point in the area. My wife got the sea bass special and it was overcooked and drowned in butter. I had one of the shrimp pastas and the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. The service was attentive and they kept the wine topped off and the water glasses full. The only downside was the food. We found that unless you want to wait awhile or listen to the live entertainment it is best to get here early. We had eaten here right after it moved from Arlington to Mansfield and it was not great at all. They have seriously improved!!! I had the special Oscar Filet and my husband had the filet with mushrooms/proscetta in a Burgundy sauce. Both were very good. The steaks was cooked perfectly. The Bearnaise sauce was a little different than what I've had before, but it was very good. Our waiter, Mickey, was very attentive and informative. I would certainly go back. read more
