We came here as a rather large group who wanted to have a great time, and not did we! The restaurant has a classy, yet welcoming interior and we were shown to a large table with plenty of lighting and space. Our server was attentive and really listened to what we were all looking for in our meal and answered all of our questions. And although our group had several people, the service was timely and we all received our dishes around the same time. And the food was *chef's kiss*. I had the Frutti Di Mare and it was full of delicious treats, such as plenty of shrimp and clams. The noodles were soft and were covered in a rich sauce that unified the entire dish. I love Italian so my friend and I have been trying Italian places all over recently. We finally made it here. I've lived in Houston all my life and I'm not sure why I never heard of La Griglia. This restaurant has a nice upscale vibe. It's a very well designed space. None of the guests were super casual. There's valet, which was $3, I believe, during lunch hours. More for dinner. There's also a little street parking. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table, which we enjoyed. Our server was nice and helped with recommendations. There was bread for the table, which is actually like small pieces of flatbread pizza. So good! Wasn't expected that from "table bread". We had the shrimp & crab cheesecake to start, and I have to say that was my favorite thing. I would absolutely get it every time. Such a unique item and packed with flavor. For my main course, I had the lamb with risotto. Great flavor, tender and juicy. And for dessert I had some sort of chocolate cake, and whoa it was huge, and way too much sweet for me. Came here during Houston's Restaurant Weeks with my girlfriend for a date night and we had a blast. The inside of the restaurant is very romantic and modern - you can tell it has been recently renovated. The music and ambiance is very classy - it would have only been made better with the addition of live music. The food we got was delicious as well. We ordered off of the restaurants week menu for 55$ a person. For starts we got the crudo and shrimp and crab cheesecake. The crudo was very spicy and overall loved the cheesecake the most. It was hearty and tasty. For main we both got the lamb ossobucco which was phenomenal - we were stuffed. For dessert we got the strawberry cheesecake and the tiramisu - both excellent and tasty choices. We also got drinks as well. I got the sunrise spritz which was tasty and my gf got a pineapple type drink which was great. The service was quick and responsive. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The ambience honestly did a lot of the heavy lifting and made everything feel better than it tasted. The charcuterie board, however, was a letdown (my cheese meat-loving heart was sad). The patio looks so dreamy and nice and at least they have fans and heaters outside, but I don't know how it fares for the height of houston summers. On to the drinks- enjoyed both of mine- the Gimlet citrusy and refreshing; the Bellini Saggio with dramatic presentation, slightly sweeter. We always do family style and these were our picks. Mussels and Clams- delicious, doesn't come with any bread but the table bread will do JUsT fine. Speaking of- the table bread had pizza, a poppy seed bread and sourdough. All lovely. Autumn salad- perfect portion to split and loved the balance of flavours here Carbonara- appetizer portion was a bit small split 5, good but nothing special. shortrib Cappaletti- loved the nice thin pasta, good flavour, could see this being a bit dry/meaty Dessert- had to get the Key Lime; it was a nice delicate dessert but personally I love the punch of key lime and this could have used a touch more. The place was packed on a Saturday Night. The hostesses at the front directed us to the bar where my friend and I sat next to the cutest older couple. The bartender made a delicious old fashioned. I am a tequila girl so I requested Mezcal. I had to have 2 of them!!! Our waiter was knowledgeable and helped guide our choices. The manager came over and introduced himself and made sure our evening was going well. The next morning a representative from the restaurant called and thanked me for dining with them. For last minute on Valentine's Day they took our reservation later than normal. They moved locations so it was hard to find the new location! They only do valet at the new location on west Dallas street. The new location is a more modern black and white setting than the old one. They still have waterfalls outside but the inside doesn't anymore but still very fancy. I of course order the shrimp and crab cheesecake and we plan on ordering five next time we go back. For drinks we got the freezer martini which I loved and he got a blue cheese martini which was delicious. We couldn't decide what to eat so we ordered appetizer sides pretty much of everything. Alfredo ravioli was SO good and hard to not order another plate of, Cesar salad was average, just needed a little pepper. Maine lobster bisque soup was great and could easily been enough with the amount of lobster they put in it. I was not a fan of the mussels which I had last time I was there as an entree but this one was too salty for me taste and lacked pasta. He ordered the veal Parmesan which he normally loves. It was very good as well but I wouldn't take a bite because I don't agree with how veal is raised. He still enjoyed it but agreed next time we will go with chicken Parmesan instead. We got dessert to go of course cheesecake for me but I ended up eating his key lime pie instead. Normally not a pie fan but they were so good! My absolute favorite feature of this restaurant was the ambience (10/10). I absolutely loved the theme and decor of the restaurant. I will say this may not be the best place for an intimate date as the tables are very close together if you are seated near the bar area. This is a true Italian restaurant, which is evident by the menu. I ordered the shrimp and crab cheesecake which is listed as an appetizer. The dish was tasteful, but I was very disappointed to find only two shrimp and a few pieces of lump crab on the dish. I would have loved a larger portion of seafood on this dish. I took my mother to La Griglia on Christmas day. I had not been here in several years. This is an a la carte restaurant. I got a pork chop that was mediocre. My mother got the red fish that was also mediocre. We shared of side of au gratin potatoes but it was so bad we each only took one bite of it. We had tap water to drink. Our bill came to $117. The lobster bisque was my starter. There was a good amount of lobster in it and not just tiny pieces of meat like some restaurants may give you. It was also very flavorful. Dinner outside on the patio was very relaxing and enjoyable. I decided upon the Shrimp/Crab Cheesecake for a starter. Light and airy goodness. The star and my absolute favorite was the Wild Mushroom Lasagna. It was extremely flavorful, perfectly executed. I added chicken atop and that made it just out of this world. That will be a frequent take out order going forward. It's that delicious. Please try! For dessert I tried the Key Lime Pie and it was delightful to look at, crisp, sweet and fresh tasting. It's deconstructed nature, makes it a piece of art. For libations, I tried the Black Sour & Bellini Del Saggio. Nice rounded drinks. The special presentation for the Bellini Del Saggio caught me off guard. I won't spoil it for you. I appreciated the service, everyone was very attentive and kind. The restaurant's ambiance was impeccable, with a beautifully designed interior and attentive professional staff. We started with the shrimp and crab cheesecake, which was enjoyable but rich. Unfortunately, the main courses fell short of expectations. Both the carbonara and amatriciana were negatively affected by the use of chewy pancetta, which had an unpleasant jerky-like texture and a muted, sour flavor in the dishes. Traditionally, these Roman pastas rely on guanciale, where the fat imparts a nutty flavor and the meat fries creating crispy texture, which enhances the dish. This is the standard in Rome and essential for authenticity. Regrettably, the use of the pancetta made it difficult to enjoy our meals, and we didn't finish ours. While I don't expect every American restaurant to replicate the quality of Rome's pastas, even my wife and I prepare these dishes at home using imported guanciale--and we're just a home cooks. A restaurant of this caliber should be able to source the proper ingredients or consider removing these dishes from the menu if authenticity isn't feasible. read more

The pizza bread that comes with your meal is so good i almost ordered the pizza just so i could have more. One of the sunrise cocktails (with dragobfruit) was huge and impossible to finish. I decided to try the crab and shrimp cheesecake - it was good but very rich - something you should share or save some for later because it was very filling (i couldn't even finish the carbonara even though i got the appetizer portion). I left a google review months ago when I visited for a corporate dinner & was met with the same poor service. This time as a regular guest, I gave this establishment my second & last chance. For such a high end establishment, many routine service tasks (such as allowing a guest to taste wine prior to pouring a full glass) were unmet. A guest of mine asked for a dish to be made slightly spicy, & they thought it was appropriate to pour Tabasco on it & bring it to the table. How tacky! I would strongly recommend grabbing a table outdoors on a night that isn't overly hot, if you can. The service is very good and the sommelier is unpretentious. He made a very good recommendation for us without going over the top. We enjoyed the wine, pizza, our veal and the asparagus risotto side, and we split a panna cotta for dessert. My husband ordered papardelle but I can't confirm if it was any good - he made it disappear before I could try! Overall, a strong recommendation in the Houston area. The key lime dessert wax so artistic the spoons were properly chilled for dessert. It was magical to eat the key lime pie and I ate every last bite. Everything was so well cleaned and the table Perfectly set.... They had one mocktail option and I very much enjoyed it! I do hope you give this special place a bit of your time to stop by one day. Restaurant Month menu was not offered and when we inquired about it, the tone and presentation of it was done in a way that left us feeling like slackers--leave it to Landrys to make you feel bad about doing something good! A little later, another waiter comes by and asks us for our main entree orders, so we ordered the veal and spinach cannelloni and a shrimp alfredo type dish. Our main entrees come out first so I ask about our appetizers, salad and soup. The waiter looks confused and asks me did I order an appetizer. So they take our food back to the kitchen and we wait 10 minutes to have our appetizer, burrata and bisque come out. Then our mains come out. They did not appear freshly made, so maybe they sat in the back waiting until we were done with our appetizer, salad and soup. We did a lot of waiting for service. Maybe it was because we didn't arrive during the peak of lunch service and dinner service didn't start when we arrived. Still, the food and service were disappointing overall. The 2 stars are really due to the dessert. Raviolo (6/10). - It's one big ravioli. It was good for me, but my husband wasn't very fond of it. Nothing to brag home about. Burrata (5/10). - very middle of the road. I've had better and I've had worse. Again, nothing memorable. Lobster bisque (8/10). - my husband really enjoyed the bisque. I loveeee la Griglia! I want to start off with the outside of the restaurant. There is valet parking and normal parking but I recommend valet especially since it's right next to the building. Once inside you're greeted by the host and escorted to your tables. The outside is so beautiful it felt like a hidden garden. To top it off the waiter was nice enough to help me into my seat & place my napkin in my lap (I've never had that done to me before) the tables were super clean and the staff was very attentive. I would recommend sitting inside not outside during the summer although they do have fans outside for convenience. Now, onto the food. It was good! I loved how the bread baskets were bread AND slices of pizza! The drinks were also a huge plus having pictures with the description of what you're ordering (just incase you're big on aesthetics). I loved that LaGriglia took the spaces of historical Nino/Grappino. It made sense for an Italian fare to take their places. We ate in the cozy patio, but was given a tour of the main dining room and upstairs (service elevator and all). The dining room was well lit and spacious, but I prefer the patio (I say that until Houston becomes Lucifer's underground den). For apps, we enjoyed the baked tagliatelle, beef carpaccio and hamachi crudo. I was surprised that I enjoyed the crudo... did they get the yellowtail from next door? Joking! I had the snapper and the hubby had the hanging hen!! It was a lot of food. The hen serves two and was tender and flavorful. The snapper was awesome!! We saved room for dessert, took most of the hen home. Dessert - hazelnut chocolate torte is a must, the Italian cookie platter and the fresh spun ice cream was fun!!
