On a cruise to the Bahamas and stopped at Key West as our first port. Came across this place while walking around and found some excellent sandwiches and Gluten-free bakery items. And kudos to the staff who, after taking our order for a sandwich with a gluten free bread substitution - they realized that the SAUCE on this particular sandwich was NOT gluten free. Very much APPRECIATE the catch and the professional way in which they handled it all. We've been to Key West so many times over the past few decades, yet never heard of this place and recently when staying on this end of the island we tried it - AMAZING! They are an amazing French style bakery! They offer a full breakfast done in different styles (English, French, etc). They make great baked goods - Pastries, breads, etc. And the service was very nice. I got a couple of their amazing muffins to bring home to VA and eat over the next two days with coffee and they packed them nicely to survive the plane and still be safe, good, fresh when I was ready to enjoy them! This was our favorite meal of our trip in Key West. We went twice on our 3 night trip. The food was fabulous especially the Eggs Benedict and the Quiche Lorraine. The quiche had a nice flaky crust and rich, flavorful filling. The Eggs Benedict was equally delicious. Make sure to order it with the homemade sausage. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, and the hollandaise sauce was very good. It automatically comes with sourdough bread which was a little bit hard to cut but I would still order!! They told me the wait is 10-15 minutes. They seated another party that can after me, before they seated me. It ended up being a 40 minute wait. Don't come here if in any sort of time crunch. The food took forever. Don't order orange juice it's a rip off. When you get a delivery of subpar oranges give the juice away for free to your customers, certainly don't charge them $7 for a glass of bad orange juice. Or take it off the menu for the day. Absolutely hands down the best breakfast I have EVER had. My girlfriend and I went on a cruise and have a day in key west and just looked up a good breakfast places. I didn't know key west was hiding the greatest brunch cafe in the world. We started with a latte and an ice coffee, I'm not really a coffee drinker and this place made me wanna become one. Delicious and freshly made. We both got the American breakfast and split the Belgium waffle, they were know for their waffles and let me tell you, top 5 food I ever put in my mouth. I really do not mean to be harsh but this was one of the worst breakfasts I've had and breakfast is pretty hard to make "bad". The bacon was 2 slices of the microwaved Oscar Meyer bacon, breakfast turkey was a slice of the prepackaged deli meat, and while the sourdough itself was actually very good, 1/2 3 came out burned to a char and progressively ended with an untoasted opposite end. Out of the few places we ate in Key West, this was by far my favorite. The French toast was incredible, but we were both really impressed with the side of bacon and smoked salmon. This place was a small sit down breakfast and brunch cafe. The staff there were awesome, very friendly, and on top of drinks. There aren't too many tables, so if you happen to walk by and see that there is one available, I recommend getting it. The bacon here is delicious, it's not over bearing, and it has a great crunch. The potatoes are very tasty, slightly crispy, and well seasoned, these paired nicely with the hot sauce on the table. The Belgian Waffle, oh man, it was superb. This is a really cool restaurant! It has the vibe of Key West and the service is excellent. We were seated promptly and our server was very friendly and attentive. We ordered our food- I had the quiche Lorraine and it was delicious. My mom had the almond croissant and it was delicious. The other entrees looked good too. The owner, Denis took his time to converse with us and tell us a little bit about himself. This cafe is worth the wait time and all of the baked goods are baked in house. La Grignote, which translates to nibbles or small bites, is a cafe- bistro- bakery that offers breakfast and lunch on upper Duval St. You can tell that everything is made from scratch. The menu goes from artisan pastries to Eggs Benedict, croque-monsieur as well as other croissant sandwiches, onion soup, salad, panini sandwiches, waffle, French toast, etc. I saw some Kouign Amann on the bakery case and I asked the waitress if the owners were from Brittany, since that pastry is very much Breton, she said the current owners bought the bakery from French bakers a while ago and along came all the recipes. Anyway, the service was outstanding, the seating choices are wonderful and the food was heavenly. The croissant sandwich and the Kouign Amann were really really good. Great pastry! We tried the pain au chocolaté, Apple turnover, cinnamon roll (not sure it was one but I think it's what it was labeled) and some macarons. We loved the pain au chocolaté and apple turnover - cinnamon pastry was a bit over done leaving it crisp and crumbling. The macarons were hit or miss - the pistachio and vanilla were good but the chocolate and coffee(?) were quite crumbly and drier than they should have been. The coffee was burnt tasting - I guess I prefer a more mellow coffee and less acrid and harsh. But I didn't like it at all. read more

I sat down outside and smelled sewer. Got an iced coffee. It was strong and good. I realized I would feel nauseous eating outside with the sewer smell, so I asked to move. The older man who moved me acted like I peed in his Cheerios and made a sour face. Then I told the waiter I would get the potatoes on the side of the pesto chicken sandwich. Three dollar upcharge. No big deal, except it said they marinated the potatoes twenty four hours. When they came out, they were the most bland potatoes possible, and it was basically the portion size of a third of a potato. Don't tell me, "oh, yeah-- Get the potatoes-- They're great". When they're literally the most bland potatoes you could possibly imagine. Then I told the waiter the upcharge of three dollars for those potatoes was criminal. What did he do? Walk away. Then a different waiter came up, and I said the same thing. And guess what? He walked away too. I will not be back. Bad experience. It's not about the three dollars. It's the fact that the menu says they've been marinated twenty four hours, and you brought me potatoes cut within most likely the last hour. Highly disappointed. The sandwich was mid. The only decent thing was the iced coffee, will never go again. read more

I have some dietary restrictions and they were one of the places that offered GF bread for toast and even had some pastries that looked delicious (though may I suggest they keep them fully separate from the regular/gluten full treats, to avoid cross contamination??). We had a great table all the way in the furthest corner and our server still managed to check in on us a couple times and refill coffees. Came here for brunch and took lunch to-go. Brunch on a Saturday AM - there was about a 30 minute wait for a table for 3 at 10am. Very busy. It was fine waiting around outside; I purchased a coffee inside to drink while waiting for our names to be called. I had the American breakfast (eggs, bacon, croissant) and we shared the honey cake, which was fine. The brunch was tasty, but my mind wasn't blown away. Lunch to go on a Monday: we ordered sandwiches to go and I had the chicken pesto panini - loved that it was shredded chicken instead of one patty/piece, which often gets dried out. The amount of pesto, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese was perfect. The sandwich looked small but overall I was full on it. Came here on a Sunday morning for brunch with my boyfriend. They were pretty busy and the place is like kinda small (like a lot of places in KW). We had two seats outside in the corner facing the street. Luckily there was a fan pointed right at us because if not I would not have been able to do it. To drink we ordered mimosas and they were delicious. I ordered the key lime mimosa and I really enjoyed it!! I would recommend that one! To eat my bf ordered the ratatouille and I ordered the egg Benedict and then we ordered the potato gratin side to share. Both meals were delicious. Really flavorful and good portions. I've never had ratatouille before but the veggies were perfect. Loved it. My egg Benedict was so filling, I've never had it on a croissant before and I enjoyed it!! Bacon was delicious as well. The potato gratin was okay, we didn't love it. Overall, this is a great spot for breakfast. Food is awesome I would certainly come back. I would mention however the menu is super hard to read.
