I was working nearby and this spot was recommended to me as a good option for lunch. The menu has a mix of many taco options, tortas, burritos, and plated dishes. Unsure about the portions, I asked if two tacos were sufficient. The cashier noted the homemade tortillas were thicker and more filling. Iopted for a fish and a shrimp taco on homemade tortilla as well as a horchata. I get a number and grab a seat. It doesn't take long for the food to come out and it's hot and fresh. The fish is fried masking some if the flavor. The shrimp taco is on point! They serve it with cheese, avacado, and sour cream. Radishes come as well, helpful to balance the flavors and enjoy with the salsa. I found the salsa verde to be more complementary with the fish and shrimp tacos. The horchata was good, but a tad on the sweeter side, and a small was a larger amount than anticipated. At just over $10, a reasonable lunch. Day 2 and I'm in need of a quick lunch again and stop in. This time I ordered the shrimp burrito, no sour cream. It comes out cut in half and freshly cooked. The cheese is melted from the warmth of the burrito. They're is a good amount of shrimp included. I make well use of the salsa verde for half the burrito and use the other salsa for the other half, which has a stronger kick. Solid option for lunch at $8. read more

I went in early Sunday afternoon and was greatly disappointed when I was denied service and was told there weren't any cashiers. One of the cooks came out and tried to help me but she couldn't figure out the register. She attempted to get the cashier that was in the dinning room to help me but the cashier said she couldn't help me. She told me she was on break and no one else could help me. I would've appreciated the open sign being turned off if they weren't open for order so I wouldn't waste my time. read more

I placed an order yesterday 12/17/23 when we received my food it was cold. I called and they told me to take it back when I arrived to the Shafter location. The customer service was rude and they said well what do you want I told them I wanted my food hot not cold! I asked to speak to a manager at was told that Martha that Maria was not there but I could try tomorrow. Today 12/18/23 I called and asked for Maria I left my name and number for her to call me back. I asked for the persons name and she hung up on me. I called back and asked for her name again and she told me I don't have to give it to you!!! The customer service is horrible!!! Ordered carne asada fries with meat and cheese only. What I got was disgusting. They were very careful to cover the burnt crispy french fry ends with the meat. I'm talking brown burnt fries. They used a different type as well. Not there crinkle fries. On top of the meat was an essence of cheese. You couldn't actually see the orange cheese. Just a glossy see thru surface of the thinnest layer of cheese ever. I used the flashlight on my phone to even see if cheese was on it. One would think that if someone ordered just 2 items on the fries, they'd get it right. It was so shitty that I picked off the minute amount of meat and gave the burnt fries to the dog. A lot of money spent on about a 1/4 cup of meat. It was also sliced very very thin. And that was for the large. Funny how the cook managed to spread it so thin to hide burnt fries. I have been here twice due to my new job and what's crazy is that it's literally right next door to the office where I work. ***DANGER ALERT***Anyway, my co-workers told me they actually served good food here and to give it a shot. I am always hesitant with Mexican food because I get the real deal when at home since I know how to cook authentic Mexican food, but they swore by it. Anyway, I go in and it's a small restaurant and was very clean. My co-workers said to get the half-order of asada fries (the regular order is massive) and so I did. It was fantastic and definitely one of the better asada fries I have had. On my second time here, another of my co-workers swore by their chorizo tacos and sopes. So, I got two quesa-taco (a taco with melted cheese infused into the tortilla) with chorizo and carne asada. I also got a carne asada sope and horchata water to drink. OMG... the chorizo queso taco was fantastic and easily up there with some of the best I have ever had! I'm really particular about chorizo at restaurants because half the time its way too greasy or bland or even undercooked--- not here! It was bomb and so flavorful! The carne asada sope was also pretty good and you can tell it was handmade as they proclaim on their menu. Honestly, it would have been better with chorizo since it's so good here! My only complain with this place is probably the waiting time. The first time coming here I didn't know this as I had to wait almost 15 minutes for my asada fries. However, things here are made to order and I can see why they take a while to make. The second time around, however, my co-worker and I called in to make sure we would get it on time so we had time to eat it during our lunch break. When we walked over, the food was ready and they had our order correct was well! The employee was really nice and friendly when we paid for our order. La Imperial for me is a little breath of fresh air because good Mexican restaurants are actually hard to find, for my taste at least since I know what good Mexican food tastes like. Despite the waiting time issues, the food here is great! Definitely get the handmade tortilla tacos, the carne asada fries and the chorizo! So good! A great place to eat in Shafter! read more

Small amount of Very Dry meat on the torta , half a small slice avocado, the stem portion of a very small tomatoe( should have been garbage part of tomato), tiny piece cheese. When we're in the mood for some quick take home food, this is the Mexican restaurant we go to. 1 - it's part meat market, part restaurant. You don't go for the atmosphere, you go for the food. (It can be a bit hot inside during the summer) 2 - if you love your tacos handmade with corn tortillas, go here. Better yet, if you've never had fresh handmade tortillas, you need to go and try them (Taos de Mano) 3 - Asada Fries ...yes, yes, yes! 4 - On this last trip I had the Sopes. Whoa, wha a find. Handmade again and fresh. Plus they're about twice the size of a normal sopes at other place. #winning I didn't give it a 5 star just because the atmosphere lacks but that should stop you from trying this place. This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Shafter. I visit for work, and have tried a lots places for lunch. The food here is very authentic.
