monday nights in tucson apparently mean limited dining options. we finally settled on la indita because one of the people in our group had been there more than once over the years, but in their old location. when we walked in, we stood in the reception area for easily 10min before the hostess/owner came out to not only our group but three other groups of people that had come in behind us. tables inside were full but we asked for outdoor seating and were handed menus and told to walk all the way down the hallway which opens up onto a relatively large backyard area with different sized tables spaced out generously. the waitress was stressed with so many tables to handle so we tried to assure her we weren't in a rush. they bring amazing chips and a homemade salsa in small plastic carafes to the table. i'd never seen salsas served in carafes before but as someone at our table pointed out, they allow for diners to refill their own salsa at least once on their own due to the quantity brought so the strategy may be a good one. at our table, we had the following orders: ranch style flat enchiladas with red sauce, tarascan tacos with spinach and nut and chile rellenos. the dishes looked interesting and definitely not your everyday take. my rellenos were bland in flavor and smothered in cheese which tasted predominantly of mozzarella. the same red sauce seemed to be on all our dishes and i personally found it uninteresting and more marinara-like than anything mexican. the quantities of food served are large so we all asked for to go boxes. i wanted to like my food more than i did. it came out hot although we did have to wait probably close to 45min for it due to the numbers of occupied tables ahead of us but i just felt the flavors were bland. la indita just recently moved to this new location and has a lot of potential as they expand even more and refine the new spot's logistics. as a tucson institution, it's hard to write a review that isn't glowing but it was a good decision to try them out. other recent reviews seem mixed so my experience may not be too far from the mark. you can tell this is a family run operation and there's a lot of care and pride that goes into the running of it. if you're willing to overlook some new location foibles, you may get a good meal here. i just wanted more flavor and service consistent with an established restaurant but we've all had to be accommodating and understanding since covid hit and the best news is this place is not only still standing but clearly remains popular! read more

I have been a fan of La Indita for years, but our experience yesterday at the new location certainly shakes my view: The good: Server was very nice, and he diligently tried his best I believe. Chips and salsa, great! Outdoor seating very pleasant, quite, nice "dining oasis"feel to it. Beans very good The bad: We waited about an hour and 15 minutes for our meal, rellano plate and a beef burrito. The red sauce... honestly, it tasted like canned marinara sauce to me, not red chili sauce, very strange and disappointing. I ordered a beef burro which was listed at around $9, server asked if I wanted it enchilada style and if I wanted beans. I said yes to both thinking they were included in the $9, when we paid, we were surprised they were actually about $6 total extra, making the $9 burro a $15 burro! Wife said her rellano plate was so-so Summary: I have fond memories of La Indita. I really like the concept of a locally owned restaurant with ties to the Native and Hispanic communities. I sincerely wish them the best, hope they read this review, and take it in the spirit that it is intended... to be a helpful critique, and my bottom line is this: The new space is great. PERFECT. I found La Indita on a list of best restaurants in Tucson, and it was even better than expected. The Indian Taco was the best I have ever had, and I have had quite a few. The beef in red chili that topped the taco was amazing, best I have had. Great flavor, and perfect amount of heat. Also had the carne seca taco, again - perfect. I can not find a single thing to even criticize about my meal. I would go back again tonight if I could. My wife had the chicken verde enchiladas, and she enjoyed them as well. TLDR: food is great, staff is very nice My boyfriend and I ordered food to go and it was insanely busy at the restaurant. I could tell they were slammed but the man working there was still very sweet and calm. There was a mix up with our order which we didn't realize until we got home, which is totally understandable given how busy they were. They gave us the right order when we returned and our food was delicious! We can see why it's such a busy spot and it was worth the wait! Tucson is my hometown. I grew up on the unique flavors of the sonoran desert--a mix of mexican and native american which is really hyper local to the tucson area. It is my comfort food and I can't find anything near as good or even close to similar where I live now. La Indita is always at the top of my list when I visit home. The indian taco, the carne seca are just so, so, so delicious. Tucson is getting a lot of attention for being a foodie destination now...but don't let image blind you to the real deal. The food here is handed down from a matriarch to multiple generations of family who now work and cook at the restaurant. Great food. Laughably bad service. The photo shows their Wednesday special -- chicken mole. Chicken was boneless and tender. Mole sauce was great. Handmade flour tortilla in the foil. But the service was poor and disorganized. I was served by 4 different people, none of whom knew what the others were doing. The guy who took my order apparently forgot to tell anyone that I ordered a beer. The person who brought my orfer didn't think to bring a fork or a napkin. Or maybe some other person who was assigned to that task forgot. I had to search out someone to ask for a fork, but it took a long time to arrive. The empty plate sat in front of me for a long time. Finally someone came to take it. The check never came. I had to ask for it twice. But while all the servers were incompetent, they were all pleasant, and of course I tipped 15%, my minimum. read more

We went here 3 times on our recent trip to Tucson. The food was great and the owners and staff were great! The margaritas were yummy too!

We loved La Indita at the old location. Went to the new location tonight and was very disappointed. Service was non-existent and beyond slow. Over an hour to get our food and the wait staff never checked on us once. Wait staff seemed to be pre-occupied with child care. Quality of food has gone downhill. Noe of your dishes were well prepared (carne asada, tarascan tacos, beans lacked flavor). Outdoor patio was nicely done at the same time it seemed to odd that the house next door kept taking their dogs through the patio. Felt like we were eating uninvited in somebody's backyard. Really hope they get their act together as this was one of our favorite restaurants. read more
