Ooooops! Half eaten pineapple turnover. Great with coffee!

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a great find! We're from the Richmond District, but we never let that stop us from venturing out to different districts in the City. The City is so diverse. We feel that it's one of the perks of living in San Francisco. What cuisine do we not have? We were craving Mexican food and we found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on Leland Street in Visitacion Valley. We entered the restaurant that was 1/3 filled at 11:30 a.m. The restaurant was cozy and homey. Let's eat here! Done. The menu was extensive, so we asked the young lady (Jocelyn) what's popular. She said everyone loves the chilaquiles with their special verde sauce. Done. Then I asked, what else is good? Jocelyn said they normally run out of their empanadas/turnovers. There were 3 left (pineapple, apple and chicken). We'll take them all. Done. Now, what to drink? Jocelyn suggested the cafe de olla. Done. OMG the best best suggestion ever. Not only was the food delicious and all the homemade sauces the tastiest... the cafe de olla (Mexican coffee with cinnamon) hit the mark. The coffee was the star of my meal. I would drive all the way to Leland Street just for this. That's how yummy it was. After we finished eating we sat around and spoke to Jocelyn (a junior in high school) and her father Jose. We said we'll return for sure. He said you have to try the enchilada mole. His wife is from Puebla and that's where mole is made. He was so kind to give my BF a sample. Definitely a great great find! Checkout La Joya Cafe! Ole!

La joya Mexican Cafe is a hidden gem. The food is good and has authentic Mexican flavors. I love this place for their Chilaquiles Verdes; the green sauce is the perfect taste of mild spiciness, green tomato sourness, and sweetness. I always ask for extra sour cream and extra cotija cheese on top. Although I'm not a fan of onions, the red onions on top are so good. They're served with your choice of eggs, refried beans, and a fresh side salad. You can't skip the 'liquido de fresa (strawberry milkshake)'. The whole staff is very welcoming and friendly; this is a great spot for brunch, providing authenticity and a warm atmosphere.

This place is actually unreal and I would recommend it to everyone. To start, the place was nice and clean, and the server was super nice and was able to answer all questions. The food was truly unbelievable. I've never had refried beans like this before, and I am forever changed by them. The sauces were also so delicious, the habanero definitely had a kick. I will totally be back!

The Chorizo Tasty Migas Tacos! So good!!!

They recently did a colab with a food reviewer and dropped a limited menu item that is available until the end of August called The Tasty Migas Tacos! You have the option of chorizo or veggie. They also have a new habanero hot sauce that goes great with the Tasty Migas Tacos as well. I def recommend trying the limited offering as I have not found anywhere else in the bay that has Migas Tacos. I've only had them in Texas. I'm def going back to get more before the end of August!

Went here for a friends birthday for breakfast, and it turned out to be the cafe's birthday as well! We had a BLAST and were so happy to have discovered this gem of a place!! First of all, they had a dj outside playing incredible music, so good that multiple members of our party couldn't resist but get up and start salsa dancing! The employees were so kind with incredible service, and were clearly so proud of their food (as they should be) We got the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast burrito, both with avocado. The breakfast sandwich was great, but nothing crazy unique. The burrito was delicious and what we would go back for. Other members of our group got the breakfast plates which looked delicious, and which they loved. Not to mention amazing prices. They also had cupcakes and other snacks out to celebrate their birthday. These included huaraches, which were SO good. Overall, some of the most fun we've had at a restaurant. Will definitely be back:)

We love this local joint & the family that runs it. My client loves his chicken enchilada here with the green sauce & I enjoy the egg chillaquilla. Give it a try & you won't be disappointed. Also, make room for coffee coz they make it good here.

We are back in the Bay Area and in search for something new and came across this spot. We both got breakfast burritos, because are we actually on a trip if we haven't had a breakfast burrito . Anyway, I got sausage and avocado in mines, my husband got chorizo in his. It was fresh, delicious, well seasoned, and filling. It came with a side of chips (which was the perfect textural addition to this meal) and the smallest cup of the most delicious "salsa" I've had in a very long time. If I come back into San Francisco I'll definitely come back here and try something else. The lady behind the counter was nice the place was clean and relatively quiet, with just a little music playing in the background. If you're in the San Francisco area or coming to the area ... give it a try!

We came early, and I'm glad we did because the line started forming about 30 minutes before opening. By the time they opened, it was already around the corner. The place has an authentic Mexico feel, from the look of the restaurant to the smells coming from the kitchen. The staff were incredible, but one of my favorite parts was being able to watch the whole process right in front of me. It definitely build up my appetite. I ordered two tacos de asada, and honestly, two were more than enough. These tacos were big and packed with meat. They do things a little differently here they used pico de gallo instead of the usual onion and cilantro. I asked them to add the onion and cilantro anyway, and when they came out, I was impressed. The steak was tender, juicy, and had a flavor I honestly hadn't experienced in a taco before. It had this deep, savory, smoky taste that felt completely different from the tacos I'm used to getting in Chicago. The meat itself was so well seasoned that it could easily stand on its own. The freshness from the pico balanced the richness of the steak, while the salsa brought a nice kick that stayed with you after every bite. Simple, but so much flavor packed into each taco. I'm really glad I finally got the chance to try La Taqueria.

They have a hostess with a podium just outside the door taking orders. We ordered and indicated that we wanted to eat in, in which case we continued to wait to be seated. They have someone in charge of seating people as well (much needed). This place is apparently a landmark. Old fashioned, fast paced, efficient, small, authentic, mostly delicious! Tried several of their tacos, the chicken quesadilla and a burrito. The burrito was delightful. Plenty of steak but still balanced and fresh. The steak tacos are also meaty and good. The meat is well seasoned and, being authentic, it is allowed to be the prominent ingredient. I would similarly describe the chicken and even the beef tongue tacos. What I loved the most, however, was the beef head taco. Immense and incredible flavor beefy flavor, not to mention that moat restaurants wouldn't dare having it on the menu. By far the best taco I've ever had. If I get the chance to visit La Taqueria again that's all I want to eat. Unfortunately there were also two items that I found to be disappointing. One was the quesadilla. Even though the chicken is good it was very greasy. The other was the pork taco. Didn't love the flavor and, again, a bit on the fatty side for me, which is not often my opinion on a pork dish. All in all, if you want to experience authentic tacos, go here. And... live a little! Order the beef head taco.
