If it wasn't for good ol google maps, we probably would've never found our way to this restaurant since its tucked in the very back of an industrial/ parking lot area. And if it wasn't for good ol yelp and its decent reviews, I might be a bit skeptical to try this place. My friends and I live in the city and we come to this neck of the woods maybe once a year, so we're not familiar with the restaurant scene here. I went into food detective mode and yelp led me to this neighborhood restaurant. Came in right when it opened at 11:30 and were the first customers of the day. We were served with fresh warm toasty bread. For appetizers, we had the meatball pie and calamari fritti. The meatball pie is basically pizza cut into squares with slices of meatball toppings and a dab of fresh ricotta. It's not very cheesy and saucy, and the crust is comparable to a thin flatbread (not crispy). It was a nice start as an appetizer. The calamari was not overly battered or soggy, and was paired with a tangy/ slightly spicy sauce which adds a nice kick to the calamari. For entrees, we got the chicken carprese and schnitzel margarita. The breaded chicken breast was tender/ flavorful and served with fresh mozz, tomatoes, arugula and lightly tossed in dressing. The schnitzel is a bit intimidating for those with lil appetites. Came out as big as the size of my face! The pork was also tender and topped with the right amount of sauce and cheese. It was paired with pappardelle that was surprisingly better than I expected. For once, it didn't taste too doughy as I've experienced at many Italian restaurants in the city. To end our gluttony, we ordered zeppoles and devoured every lil fried goodness. Wished they would've gave more vanilla icecream! Overall, the food was fresh and delicious. Loved the large portions. Come with a big appetite and lots of friends so you can order to share. If not, be prepared to unfasten your pant buckle! We made the mistake of ordering more than we could handle and ended up rolling out of the restaurant. read more

We arrived last night around 8:00pm on Tuesday for my birthday. We were seated immediately in the outdoor garden area. It was beautiful with lit trees and plenty of space between tables. Our waiter was pleasant. When we wanted another round of beers, we asked the busboy and he had a two way radio to notify our waiter. That was great! The food was delicious and everything was perfect. I highly recommend coming here. There aren't reservations for outdoor seating so be aware during the weekend youll have to wait in your car or take a stroll on the South County Trail which is right there! read more

Wow. This place was incredible. We made our reservation through Yelp for 7:30 on a Friday night. The host was very kind and seated us very quickly. The servers were respectful, knowledgeable, and quick. Everyone at Lanterna seems to work together so it makes service seamless. Our meals came out quickly. The pastas were delicious. This restaurant is really good. You can come for lunch or dinner. They have a nice happy hour and my favorite the $10 pasta night Wednesday's. They have a variety of about 15 different pasta dishes to choose from. For addition $ you can have a side of salad, their famous meatball, or shrimp. Happy hour consists of draught beers, well drinks, oysters, pizza etc. During my most recent visit we tried oysters and the pizza for the first time. Both were delicious. Finally, we were able to try dining at La Lanterna last night. We were supposed to have our wedding reception there in December, but they were already booked and tried going for a random Saturday date night but they were packed. We learned our lesson and had a reservation! It's worth it. Their filet mignon has a delicious creamy sauce. The lobster ravioli's serving size is just right. I was beyond excited to try this place because it has awesome reviews and it looks fabolous! I went in May 3rd with my husband and had lunch. I ordered the lasagna and he had filet mignon...i must say I was in love with the food. Best lasagna ever..chessy and delicious. The meat was so soft and cooked to perfection. The food is not a problem in this place but the service was horrible. I got a server who i know for a fact was spanish because I'm spanish myself and was embarrassed of how bad he did his job. He didn't introduced himself in the beginning...not even a smile. We had to ask him for water...then again for more water maybe since we had ordered a pitcher of sangria he thought we didn't need water. Aside from that never offered dessert menu. No napkins. Didn't come to check up on us. Bad. Bad service. Totally disappointed. I plan to go again on a different day and not for lunch then maybe we will get a great server. read more

I've been here twice, wanting to give it another shot before writing. The service has been slow & inattentive both times. My first visit was for dinner & as I had been eyeing it for quite some time, I was excited to go. It was not particularly busy, but we waited for awhile to be seated. There were 2 tables that arrived after we did & were sat right away. Both of these tables were also approached & orders taken before we were even approached. It happens, but, that lends to staff/servers being inattentive. There was a very large party in one corner, who were already finished, that had a good amount of youngish children who were dodging all around the tables & screaming loudly with childhood glee. By itself, it's a thing of beauty to behold, but not while you're trying to have a relaxing evening out, away from everyday life. There was no intervention by the management & the adults at the table were blissfully deficient of any/all parenting tactics for their evening out. We had the Bosco pizza, the spicy garlic shrimp & the garlic fries, all very good. We kept a menu to order more, but grew tired of yelling over the screaming children to have conversation. Unlike the wait for service, the bill was produced immediately. My second visit was for lunch & while the service to be sat & have a server arrive was also unreasonably slow (there were 3 tables already eating & no-one behind me), it was a beautiful day, no howling children running everywhere & I had no rush to be anywhere. I opted for their special, which was a decently executed risotto with bay scallops, tiny shrimp & peas & a beer. I achieved a relaxing lunch & was able to enjoy this meal. I think the place has great potential, the outdoor space is sizeable & well laid out, the food I've had so far has been pretty good, but the service has been an issue on both occasions with very different scenarios. If they bumped up the service & if management ran interference with overtly loud parties (one of the running children actually slammed into me as I left) I think you'd have an overall winner as most of their patrons seem to have experienced. We had the opportunity to try this restaurant during "Hudson Valley Restaurant week 2017" and we were so happy we did! We made same day reservations and got seated quickly by a very gracious host. He explained the special menu and their regular menu as well. Our waiter was awesome and further answered some of questions, took our drink orders and was genuinely happy to see us as he was always smiling. The appetizers were all excellent! My daughter enjoyed their salad. I the prosciutto w/fresh mozzarella, arugula, and roasted red peppers (YUM!). My husband had the beautiful ricotta stuffed meatball and we all shared so we could enjoy everything. Dinner was awesome, hubby had the baby lamb chops, I the chicken and mushrooms and our daughter the Papparedella Bolognese! Everything was yummy as well as yummy looking! They also had one off my favorite desserts the "Affagato" For those of you who have never tried one I recommend it highly! So, we give them props on the food, the presentation and the service. This is a solid restaurant and good date night spot. Have been here a couple of times in the past (e.g. a company holiday dinner, and a few evenings for beer and nosh in the garden). Tonight the beau and i were looking for some place to have a casual but delicious dinner, and he came upon La Lanterna in yelp. I remembered the food being better than average, so we took a ride up the saw mill from riverdale. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, especially nice on this rainy night, and the service was prompt and pleasant. We nibbled on (read: devoured) the warm crusty bread and garlicky butter while we waited for our meatball appetizer to arrive. The meatballs were tender and tasty, albeit a bit cold. For our main course, beau had the pappardelle bolognese and I had the chicken parmesan with a side of penne ala vodka ($1 surcharge, to change from tomato sauce). Everything was delicious. Nothing particularly new or exciting, but just really good comfort food. Oh, and the portions were gargantuan! We both were starving and have pretty hearty appetites to begin with and still ended up taking most of our meal home (next time we will probably just split a salad and an entree). All in all we left fat and happy just as one would hope from such a place. So, if you are looking for an easy spot to sit, sip, chat, and enjoy yummy food for a reasonable price (a darn near steal considering you will have dinner for the next day as well), La Lanterna is the place. Found this hidden gem while biking and am so glad I did. They have outdoor seating. Outdoor bar and smoking area. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was incredible!. Paddy's meatballs, one of their appetizers, were my absolute favorite thing on their menu. And speaking of menu, everything sounds and looks so good (I looked over my shoulder at nearby plates) it was difficult ordering just one plate of food. I was so excited to try this place with all of the positive reviews and I'm really disappointed. After driving 45 minutes to come here I walk in to have employees STARING at my friends and I. Then after we sit down different people kept coming to us wanting to take out order. WE JUST SAT DOWN give us a few minutes. Upon placing our order I asked the waitress for a dish that wasn't on the menu. Their online site states, "Dear Guests, if you have a dish you want & don't see it on the menu, let us know & if we have the ingredients we will prepare it." I basically wanted butter/oil garlic pasta with cauliflower. The waitress said it was seasonal and we don't have it. I understand you may not have cauliflower but you can't make me some spaghetti with butter/oil and garlic? WOW. So of course I had to order something else. After we get our food we got asked SO MANY TIMES "are you ok?" It was getting to the point where I felt interrupted and annoyed. Also, the employees kept trying to take our food away when we were still eating it. I kept having to tell them I am not done and I'm still eating (I mean it should've been obvious since I was chewing with a mouth full of food). Don't bother going if you want to relax with a nice glass of Sangria. You're given clear plastic cups and a coca-cola pitcher with sangria in it. For the prices you pay the presentation was not it. I have never been to a restaurant where the employees look at you the whole time you're eating and are constantly interrupting your meal. My friends and I definitely wouldn't go back. read more
