I was looking forward to lunch at La Madeleine yesterday. I used to love it and hadn't been back in a couple of years, so the experience was a huge disappointment. Needless to say, I won't be returning. The ordering process has completely changed. Now you have to place your order at the bakery counter along with everyone else. There is no staff at the salad, soup, or entrée stations; apparently everything is prepared and served from the kitchen. After placing your order, you're handed a number and told to wait. The cashier wasn't particularly friendly, and the wait for the food was longer than expected. Unfortunately, the food was even more disappointing than the service. The French onion soup was atrocious--watery and tasting more like soy sauce than onions. The small piece of Swiss cheese attached to a thin baguette slice was rock-hard. Gone are the generous toppings and fresh bread I remember. The chicken salad sandwich, once my favorite item on the menu, was an unappetizing brown color and tasted as though it had been sitting around far too long. What was once a reliable favorite has clearly changed, and not for the better. I won't be coming back. read more

This place is DISHONEST - when I cancelled an order for a loaf of bread on a delivery service app 60 seconds after placing the order, when I realized the location was 35 miles away, I called customer service immediately who in turn called the restaurant. They lied and said they had prepared the loaf of bread. It was already made! The delivery app would not refund my money. Cheap thieves. read more

This spot can be a hit or miss in terms of speed of service depending on the time you go. Sometimes there is a long line and even when I am picking up an order i'll have to get in the same line (they need a pick-up station or something). Also if you order pick-up and it comes with a drink, your drink will need to be filled by yourself when you come in person rather than the drink being ready for you to just grab and go. My current fixation that has made me keep coming back here has been their "Le Pick 3" deal where you can get half a sandwich, a side, and a beverage for only $8.99 with an upgrade to a full sandwich for $2 more. That deal is honestly hard to beat during these times so I've found myself ordering their pick 3 deal for lunch multiple times within the last few months. The chicken caesar sandwich is my favorite and then I like to order a side caesar salad with no extra protein. The caesar salad in the sandwich is different from the caesar side salad. Their pastries are also delicious but they are best eaten warm (e.g. croissants). When it comes to a quick affordable lunch compared to other similar sandwich shops like Panera right across the street from here I will go with La Madeline read more

And, I've had truly foodie prepared scrambled eggs. Many of our team hails from North Africa and really do speak French so their bonjour is the real-deal. Me and my friends are visiting this area and decided to stop in for a quick breakfast. All of us ordered separately and when one of our friends ordered, the lady at the counter repeated it back to her, but then put the wrong order in. My friend only noticed after she had payed for it that on her receipt, her order was wrong, so she went back in line and they had to refund her and reorder. When she finally received her correct order (breakfast sandwich with eggs/sausage/cheese), she got an egg on a croissant. It felt like pulling teeth trying to get them to fix it again. Another one in our group received the wrong order and they refused to fix it because she couldn't find her receipt. I understand the receipt can prove her order is wrong, but with the first occurrence, we knew they were just messing up our orders. I was a bit disappointed with the new look! Looks like some had the wonderful idea to paint most of the interior white! I doesn't have the old world feel like before! The natural wood patina from before made it look classy and cozy! They've also replaced the tables and chairs with more basic & plain furniture! I used to come here all the time when I used to live in this area. Things have definitely changed since post-covid times. Food items used to be out and readliy available, so you could point to what you wanted, or grab a plate with the item just prepared on it, similar to a cafeteria. However, there wasn't any food out, only a few quiche like turnovers under the heat lamp. I'm not sure if they still have the food out anymore or maybe it was because I came 6:30 pm and they had less food items on display? I'm not certain. I came here to meet a friend over coffee and desserts. You pay at the counter and serve yourself at the coffee and tea station. Milk, creamers and sweeteners were provided at the station. Plenty of seating. There were several tables that had not been cleaned up. I thought the prices were reasonable and plenty of options on the menu, even for a picky eater. I have fond memories from when I used to come here, frequently. Things have changed, but it's still very nice. read more

The way they do the service has changed. You no longer get a tray and what down the counter to order your food. When you come in you order at the counter and then go sit down and wait for you order. You still go get a drink at the counter. But there were no spoons, or forks or glasses when we went there. Food was delicious. Would have been better if we received what we ordered. We ordered mushroom soup. That was delicious. I ordered half a Toasted Caprese Sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. Ended up getting a toasted chicken sandwich. It was good but not what I ordered. We also ordered ham sandwich on baguette cold. It can came out hot. Our order came with another sandwich which we did not order. It sat on the tray for 15 minutes before someone came by. On December 21, 2025, at 12:30 p.m., I placed a pickup order at La Madeleine in Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia, with a pickup time of 12:51 p.m. When I arrived, my sandwich was not ready. The same employee who took my order said she remembered it, had already charged me, and told me it would be ready soon. After continuing to wait, I spoke with the manager at about 1:15 p.m. Her name is Roseria (spelling may be incorrect). I showed her my phone to confirm that I placed the order at 12:30 p.m., but the sandwich still had not been made. At first, the manager did not understand my concern. After I explained several times, I asked for a refund. When she gave me the refund, she said in front of other customers, "You don't want your food," which was embarrassing and unprofessional. I also want to mention that the previous Friday I was served by the same employee and did not leave a tip. When I called on Sunday to place my order, she recognized me and did not send my order to the kitchen. When I arrived at the restaurant, my order had been deleted from the system. After waiting about 51 minutes, I left without food and feeling embarrassed. The service I received was very unprofessional, and this location needs better customer service and staff training. read more

I hate to write negative reviews, and I'm sure that this establishment is not all bad however my experience could not have been worse. Not only did they provide me with the wrong coffee(not a big deal all things considered), they put mayo on my sandwich. Now this is infuriating because I asked first if mayo came on it and they said yes. I then asked if they could make it for me without mayo, and they said yes. I then stated "ok i will have that then, with NO mayo." They said "okay, no problem!" They then put the order in and asked if I wanted vinegar on the sandwich, and I said "no, and no mayo either". They then took 20 minutes to make a sandwich, which i brought home, unwrapped, and found it was slathered in mayo. Unsalvageable. What happened to this place? On my visit today 10 May 2025, at 11:10, we had to wait 19 minutes to place our order. We sat down around 11:35 after placing our order and the food did not come out until 12:07. Also, they have a habit of taking your order # placard before giving you all of your food if you have a large order (4 people/orders). I now no longer allow them to do this until they have given me all of my food/drinks. I had to wait another 10 minutes for my cappuccino after receiving all other food. The men's bathroom is closed and the women's bathroom is being used as a unisex bathroom. As much money as this place is brining in (as it's always busy) you would think they'd have the funds to fix their bathrooms. Whomever decided to put the cashiers at the front and give no one space to wait as they are now in the way of the door, didn't think this one through. Each time I go here the service takes longer and longer, and each time they forget to give us something from our order and I have to show my receipt and ask for it. Got the three lunch offering with a half chicken pastry & mushroom gravy (Campbells soup & salty), cold scoop of chicken salad (extra $), and cup of tomato bisque soup. Service was minimal as you bus your own tray, fill your own drink, and pay at the counter. Ambiance is about what you expect from the chain, with "same style" store interior and locations for things. Familiar, comfortable, chain oriented decor, but absolutely nothing special that I'd consider drawing me back- nor any reason not to return. This was a simple stop-in while we were furniture shopping next door. My daughter and I got thirsty, and we stopped in for a couple of Iced Lattes. Great service by Maria, and wonderful coffee - The 5th star was credited to the friendly attitude, and the offer/suggestion to try a pastry as well. Le Madeline is located in a very convenient spot, surrounded by clothing stores, department stores, groceries and more. There's lots of parking and the interior is spacious. They have a full menu for breakfast and lunch, featuring various sandwiches, crepes, quiche, soups, salads and the like. There's also an enticing pastry case and coffee shop offerings. I had a nice big latte with almond milk. It was lovely! The non dairy options were almond or soy. I also had their signature crepe with savory fillings and a rich and flavorful mushroom sauce. It was absolutely perfect! Next time, I may come hungrier so I can try another savory crepe along with an almond croissant. Give their sweet and savory options a try and see for yourself! read more

Prices are cheap for a reason - don't expect this to be authentic French food because it's not, despite all the of French flags and "Bonjour"s and "Bon Voyage"s that's slapped onto all of the marketing. I used to love this place when I never had actual French food now when I was younger but I have evolved and so did my taste buds. I'm not really sure why I loved this place so much when I was a kid LOL. I got brunch here - a quiche, French onion soup, and mimosa. Quiche just tasted like unflavoured scrambled egg in a soggy crust - I couldn't finish it and I always will finish food if it's at least average and I'm not full, but I could not with the quiche. The French Onion soup was okay - the soup itself tasted like the usual French Onion soup along with some bread and cheese that was dropped into it. The mimosa comes with a bottle of champagne and orange juice that you pour into a glass but the resulting mimosa was a little chunky? Not worth the mimosa price I think. Staff seemed kind of done with work, some of the tables were dirty, and food is not good even though you can kind of tell what the quality of the food is based on the cheap prices for a quiche and croque monsieur. read more

However, they are supposed to ask if you have the App., which after so many visits you "could" get free deserts, coffee and or other delectable delights. Unfortunately, they seem to make you feel like its a hassle. So, I always look for some of the old timers who take the time to scan you app and suggest things. Paid for everything, sat down, finished the quiche and the danish. Waited 5 MORE minutes for the coffees and nothing. Went up to the counter, they had no idea we were waiting. They then handed me a coffee cup for me to get my own and started making the cappuccino. They need to hire more people, train them how to greet people, and maybe pay them a bit more. They don't say hello to us, they don't say a reassuring word to make us wait, they don't say goodbye, the tables are not clean, not the shadow of a smile.... today Today, the phone was ringing and ringing and ringing for several long minutes and no staff was paying attention. No one picked up and it was exasperated that I got up to ask that the ringing stop. The handset was picked up without further ado! Not the shadow of a manager to replace a crooked decoration, ensure that the place is well maintained and ensure a welcome to customers. This place declined fast. My most recent visit makes me wonder if I'll come back. The food is still good, but the restaurant seemed sort of unclean, which was unappetizing. I came in shortly before the dinner rush, but the place was quite busy. There was no one working at the serving line, so I stood there for several minutes. Finally decided to go to the bathroom first - and there's where things really went downhill. Of the two stalls, one didn't flush and the other was stuffed full of toilet paper. Gross. I thought about leaving immediately, but I stayed. Was disappointed that the spinach strawberry salad on the sampler menu came with nuts despite it not being advertised. Especially when several other salads explicitly say they have nuts. Oh well. Got my French onion soup and strawberries side. Last time I was here I got overcharged for the sampler, but this time was fine. Somewhere between grabbing a fork and sitting at a table I touched something sticky, which exacerbated the icky feeling I already felt after the bathroom. Meh this location was not great. I'm not a big fan of the ordering process at these places anyway, but there is no order or direction when you walk in. There were people cutting in line, and others not knowing how to order. Our food was okay, nothing to write home about. Typical breakfast foods that could be made at home. I do really enjoy their potato galette, though! The staff were okay, but they did screw up our order for a latte, and then quite a bit of time to have that remedied. read more
