We had a lovely book club gathering at La Madeleine, and it was a big hit! Everyone was able to go through the line and pay for their own meal, and it felt so cozy with the fireplace glowing. I enjoyed the side salad sampler with the pecan and cranberry wild fields salad, along with the French onion soup, and the strawberries Romanoff cup (fresh strawberries with a delicious brandy cream sauce). I finished it all off with a glass of wine. The service was really attentive, which I appreciated. The only thing was that the restaurant was a bit chilly for my taste, but overall, the food was absolutely delicious. read more

Everything have said before remains except my opinion on the staff. It's a cluster eff in the early morning. They just look at you and continue on with their opening duties, zero acknowledgement you exist. Not sure if they just need to open the doors 30 minutes later to have staff ready, relaxed as can be to encounter customers. Your better experience here will be after 9 am through 2 pm. Food and Service. The service is incredibly slow compared to other La Madeleine stores. The food is bland watered down and cooled. If you're looking to eat a hot plate at this establishment sit by the fire place and hope some of the heat transfers. After a 45 minute wait to get a sandwich the chips were dropped by the runner on the floor a replacement was never offered or brought out. Although the plates look appealing the taste was completely absent. I would recommend a different location or restaurant completely. read more

Edit: I will say that the establishment reached back out to both on here and on their website. That takes being humble and I do appreciate the class. I will return, In person next time, and give a further update. I thank them for their response. I really don't want to hurt businesses. I think we all need some constructive criticism when we need it to be better. Adding another star for the response for now. I ordered a via Favor so I wasn't able to check the food before it got to me. I got Chicken La Madeline and a potato galette. The chicken had no flavor and was burnt. The inside was dark brown and it was crunchy. The also had given me the smallest piece of chicken I've ever seen. It was inedible. The potato galette was also burnt, and dry. It was a hockey puck. It would have definitely sent it back if I was there. They should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such horrible food. It is a shame too because I used to like it. Lady that took my order was super rude and unhelpful. I'd never been here before so I didn't know how it worked. She had me get a tray and then just started slamming cups towards us and a small bowl. I asked if it was my soup and she said "it's a potato soup. Idk who ordered it!" I was shocked bc there were only 3 people in our party that ordered, on the same ticket. I waited tables for 8 years. I know it's not that hard to be a bit helpful and pass a plate to someone if it's theirs. The bus lady was super nice though. Soup was good. Grilled cheese had no flavor at all, I was really surprised, it was almost bad. Sat by the fire though and it was nice. I went to order a latte after too at the ToGo area, I wasn't sure where else to go, and she was helpful, not pleasant in any way, but very helpful. It is shocking how much the quality of this place has depreciated! My daughter and I went there last weekend in the evening for a quick meal and that was an eye opening experience. I ordered the soup, sandwich, and salad meal and it was abominable; French onion soup was not hot with unmelted sliced cheese on top, sandwich cold when it should be hot and salad drenched in dressing! Daughter's Caesar salad was also drenched. I addressed the manager, who seemed confused, about the quality of the food and she didn't bother apologize but first offered to heat the soup and sandwich - why wasn't it done initially when I ordered?? When I spoke to her the second time regarding our soupy salads, again no apologies for the inconvenience but instead offered a refund. I declined since I had already started ti eat the food. They really need to reevaluate their business, it has declined and I won't be returning unless there's drastic change in the quality of the food, revamping customer service, and cleanliness of the restaurant. When we entered the door there was a foul Oder. Afterword we were greeted or (lack there of) by poor customer service. They forgot multiple items on our order and even directly after saying what we wanted they gave us something completely different. More over the food we ordered sat on the counter to be delivered to our table long enough that it was cold. We did come at an odd hour. But it was not busy, it was not clean and the staff seemed lethargic and like they didn't process what we were asking leading to much confusion. Yeaaaaaa we eat her at least once a month. Ordered what we always do croque Monsieur and a sandwich with potato soup. Took forever to get our mains.. when they came out the Croque was cold asked them to reheat. Needless to say almost an hour and my hubby was down with dinner mine came out again tepid at best. I love La Madeleine but the quality has changed a bit. Some of the dishes are not what they used to be some years ago. The location determines the service. We go to the one at Kingwood, and the service is good. The one at the Woodlands, the service varies. This place is a hit or miss when you dine in, either you got bad service or great service, there's no middle ground. We used to eat here regularly, but we recently stopped because their coffee machine is always broken. The last time we ate here, I asked the cook if my sandwich, the Croque Madame, is supposed to come with salad on the side because that's what I always order when I dine-in here, but it was missing from my plate. When entering some trays had been brought out and they were dirty and wet. I informed the cashier that there were several trays that were wet and a few of them had some type of dirt or something on them. He did not tell anybody and just stood there for another 2 minutes while I cleaned two trays. I then approached and asked him if he was going to do anything about it and he began to question me instead of immediately act, which is what you should do when a person reports something dirty in the restaurant especially where all of the clients are entering. I was out with my daughter and her dad and he wanted to check out la madeleine as he always orders it for delivery but never actually has been inside this location before. We entered and it was a bit busy for a Sunday afternoon but still had some seating that was indoors. The girl at the register seemed to have rushed us with ordering. I said I wanted the pesto pasta and she said "What pesto pasta? Here's a menu" I literally told her it was the creamy pesto pasta and she said "Well that's what its called" Didn't know I had to use the proper name for it. We sat down and noticed there was no forks. They had people walking around clearing tables but no one checking on the utensils so alot of us had to go up and ask for to go forks. Even when we left, there was still no forks so utensils were not on anyones mind that day. Was the food delicious? Yes. Did my 2 year old enjoy it? Yes. This was the first place we ate at when we moved to Kingwood 25 years ago. I originally left a 5 star review but since they can't respect my request for extra gravy about 80% of the time (and it's my birthday) I'm taking away 1 star. I order my meal with extra gravy every single time...not a big deal right? It's too dry without. They don't even check the bag when we ask if it's there. They often look at the receipt and say it's there but we get home and it's not in the bag. We now have to check the bag. But if we forget or I send my son (as I did tonight) then we end up with dry food. The workers are nice and they offered us compensation. But I would rather have the gravy and a nice meal. Most are high school teens and with exception to a few teens with attitude they are great. This can happen anywhere. The adult workers are always good. The food is good too and a reasonable price for a healthy meal. We love to sit by the fire when it gets colder and in general we like the environment. It's not a full service but for the price it's good that they bring your food to the table. We usually get the chicken La Madeline (EXTRA GRAVY) and it does not seem to be changed from the first time we tried it. We had given 5 stars because they always have wonderful baked goods and we have found the food to be consistently good....but we want extra gravy when we order it. My family and I use to go all the time after choir, orchestra and band practice, and to be treated the way my family and I were treated was very hurtful and I will never come back to this establishment because of Jen the manager. She came to my table observing my food and made my husband and 6 year old daughter feel very uncomfortable as I was refilling drink. Arrived after the rush hour of lunch traffic, no line but plenty of people still seated around the cafe enjoying their conversations. You order at the front then take your seat wherever you want or wherever is available. There is a gas burning fireplace which is nice but honestly it's over 100 degrees outside right now and it's definitely putting out heat, I'd rather see it than feel it. I had a lemon poppyseed muffin which was just ok, nothing to brag about. I'd say that this place is probably best for little coffee dates or a nice place to sit and get some work done alone on the computer. The customer service was excellent (the main reason for the 4 stars really), however the food in my opinion was just a little underwhelming. I truly enjoyed their tomato soup and side of bread. I had a caramel macchiato made with soy milk which was also well made. My actual meal was not good at all. I had their roast beef tartini and it was not to my liking. First off the portion of this dish was all wrong. For the price you pay, the serving size should be larger. The roast beef is just your run of the mill cold cut roast beef you can buy at the store. Nothing to write home about. The mushrooms looked and tasted like the ones you can get out of a can or jar. Yuck. The onions were not at all carmalized and the cheese they used was not of good quality. I was super dissatisfied :-( I tried some of the other dishes that were ordered (waffles, dirty rice with chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce) and they were both way better than what I ordered. For dessert I tried their fruit tart. It was not too sweet which I prefer, however I have had better at other local bakeries. I will say that the attention I received from the staff is what made me bump this review up to 4 stars instead of 3. I think the staff would benefit from some training. At front of house you rarely get a warm welcome. I ordered the half sandwich plus a cup of soup. I was charged $5.80 for the soup, which should have been a $2.99 add on. The half sandwich was a major disappointment. A tiny piece of baguette with a miserly portion of ham and swiss inside for $6.60!! I spoke to the manager who refunded me the overcharge and gave me a gift card. The customer service is poor, once i walked in it was obvious i didn't know where or what to order, the menu is hidden, and no one greeted us or even asked if we wanted anything. I had to flag someone behind the counter and ask how to order. Once you order it is almost a fast food vibe from the service. The tables also smell like a dirty rag.
