So I got an invite to come and enjoy a free meal before their Re-Grand opening in a few days. They renovated the place and it looks more lit up and more spacious. I will say that I quite miss the coziness and dim lighting, so it doesn't feel like La Madeleine to me as much anymore. They haven't updated the menu too much, whatever we got we enjoyed. I was able to come for the breakfast one day, and then lunch the next. Cinnamon French Toast- 5/5 This was so yummy! Caesar salad- 4/5 Standard Caesar salad but I liked that the croutons were crushed and were there throughout the whole salad Spinach quiche- 2/5 not the biggest fan of this because it's not too flavorful. Definitely needs some salt and pepper. Tomato Basil Soup- 5/5 Tomato basil pesto pasta salad- 3/5 This didn't taste as good as it usually does Dessert: Creme Brûlée cheesecake- 5/5 UH MA ZING Chocolate Almond Croissant - 4/5 They have a new jelly machine which is cool. It's not available in the little cups anymore, but there are empty cups in which you can put them in and take to go. They also have a new soft drink machine. Came for breakfast with a friend after preschool drop off! I hadn't been since they renovated last fall and it looks great! I loved that they have a small corner with benches so my 11 month old daughter could sit there while we ate. They also have high chairs but the bench is more comfortable for her. I ended up ordering the American Breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it, though I have to say it would be hard to mess up eggs, a croissant, and sausage. I also bought 2 individual cookies for $2.99 each for my son's preschool teachers. Everyone loves those cookies so it makes a great gift! This is the perfect place to catch up with a friend! I had the salmon with rice and broccoli. I've had this dish several times over the past 6 - 9 months and it is not consistent. The salmon does not taste fresh and is rather bland. The rice pilaf and broccoli are prepared well and taste great. I have also ordered it with the "red skinned potatoes"but they were not what I expected - bland. Good evening. I am a patron of the Town Center location in Sugar Land, TX. I am a die hard fan of the soup and salade sampler due to medical issues with my gastrointestinal system. However the last several deliveries have been substandard when it comes to quality. I always order two potato soups and strawberry spinach salad. Well previously the soup was watery and today the strawberries in my salad are rancid. I opened the container and instantly smelled them emitting noxious fumes. But the manager's dismissive attitude when I called to alert him just deserves no star at all. I explained to him that I didn't want any refund but that I just wanted to let him know that a long brown hair escaped into my food. "Well, I've been here for ___ years and this has never happened before...Well, the health department only requires us to cover heads, not wear nets...Well, you should contact Door Dash to give you a refund." Then, when he asked me which order it was, I listed the items that were in the order for his recognition. He responded, "So, you first told me the hair was in one dish. But now you're telling me it was in all those dishes." No, that is not what I said. I listed the items so that he could maybe recognize which order because he asked me "which order". I experienced a conversation with a manager who just didn't demonstrate any interest in correcting the problem. No apology. I often find the omelet's watery (their vegetables are probably frozen). The tomato soup is my favorite. It's creamy (probably full of 200% fat) and delicious. Get a plate full of stacks and stacks and stacks of different types of bread to dip in your soup, it's all complimentary. Their hand-tossed caesar salad with chicken breast is my pick. This place is always buzzing with people. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Even though there's ample seating you'll find yourself scouting for a spot. The people there all acted like I should know what to do I was actually given advice on how to get my food from a patron and not an employee. La Madeleine has always been a family favorite, and I've been frequenting this location for 10+ years. This was my first La Madeleine, and I've since come to love all the other La Madeleine's in Houston, Austin, and Dallas. Originally, this location was a nice homey atmosphere with warm wooden tables/chairs, blazing fireplace, & wine glasses for water/beverages with classy yummy casual French foods. It's a great place for a peaceful morning by the windows, leisurely drinking coffee and munching on free bread and jams. It's in a great location by the mall and Town Center. I was excited whenever we went to eat at La Madeleine's or bought cakes to-go for parties. However, over the past ten years, the wooden tones were switched with cheap flimsy plastic-y tables/chairs. Early on, the sophisticated wine glasses were swapped (understandably) to the normal glasses that didn't break so easily. The wonderful cozy image of La Madeleine slowly became tainted with some bad impressions. I used to love the country potato soup, but then one day I saw an employee pour hot steaming soup out of a plastic bag into the soup container in the serving/ordering line area. I understand la Madeleine is a chain and they may not make the soup in-house fresh. I understand bags are an effective way to store soup. What irked me was that the soup was boiling hot in a plastic bag and possibly microwaved. The idea of plastic chemicals leeching into the soup is a huge turnoff for me. I don't know what other restaurants may do behind the counter in the kitchen, but this was just eye-opening to me. On my last visit, there were flies in the pastry fridge. The other customers and I were eyeing the dance of the flies, and I brought it up to the employee. She threw up her hands in exasperation and said "again?!" to the other employee who was in charge of the (apparently reoccurring) problem. Well I have no clue now whether there are major pest and sanitation issues in the kitchen where the rest of the food is handled if their display case had flies frolicking about. Now the food is still fine, but I personally think the Rice Village location tastes more fresh and better. As a fun side note, I once compared the portion difference between a cup and a bowl of soup, by pouring a bowl of soup into a cup. Bowl is obviously larger, but actually the additional volume was not by much...so one would conclude it is more economical to get a cup instead. I don't recall any memorable French food in my life. So this place is sort of the first account where I really enjoyed what I was served. We got Potato Galette and Chicken Friand. We got extra mushroom sauce on the Chicken Friand--that was worth asking. The mushroom sauce isn't too strong and is good on the taste buds. The Friand was delectable. The Potato Galette was yummy as well. I want to try other things here someday. There is also free bread, butter, and jam here--can't go wrong with something free that's actually good. The lighting is nice and the wooden feel inside makes this place feel like a French cafe in Paris. The way that the sunlight shines in and bounces off the furniture enhances the experience here so I appreciated all the decoration mores. The menu is quite expansive and i had trouble deciding what to get. We ended up with the following: Turkey cranberry melt: Now, we all know Turkey is a lean meat, but this was really dry. The cranberry helped a bit, but if I hadn't been so hungry I doubt I would've been able to eat as much as I did. Turkey risotto: The risotto was ordered without cheese. I don't know if that was just poor planning on our part or what, but this was not a pretty picture. Imagine mushed up rice that sticks in your throat...yeah. no bueno. It is a buffet type where you order your entree at the beginning and then there is a "a-la-carte" portion. Simply can't go wrong with anything from La Madeleine. Simple French classic food. It was my sister's prom night so of course she is still watching her weight so she wanted a salad. We ordered the salade sampler which you can choose from a list of items that are all tasty. Since she wanted salads, I decided to order her all three of their salads: Caesar, Bacon Strawberry and Cranberry Walnut. All three salads were dressed nicely and each bite was delicious. And for myself, I ordered the Country Potato Soup, which is to die for! Honestly one of my favorite soups ever! If I was ever sick or having a bad day, this soup cures all blues! They top it off with bacon and cheddar cheese and OMG salty bacon and creamy cheese you simply can't go wrong! After all this food, it was a must that I got a dessert so I ordered the Strawberry Napoleon and you can say I was a happy camper! Came here a while back & had breakfast with mother we both had coffee that blew me away it was so fresh & creamer went with it so well , it didn't taste like damn milk !!! Mother & I shared an omelette which we got with all of the fixings !!! The best: Tomato Basil Soup, I compare it with lots of restaurant, and they have by far the best Tomato Basil Soup. My wife love their Caesar Salad, they a have quick service and you can select any table you want. Last time, I tried their paella, and my thought is it has a lack of taste. Their salad and soup are good to try. I read lots of their review and most of their complains are the service and I think they don't understand the theme of the place. If you go to France you will get much worst, that's how it supposed to be. They don't have a server duh, they came there to clean the table or help you if you are confuse or something. The only thing descent at this place is their tomato soup, plus you get to enjoy it with unlimited free, dry, French bread that's left out in the open for everyone to take. If your lucky this bread may be out if the incompetent people working here fill it up. This place is a bit pricey for the crap you're getting served, has some of the poorest service, and is an insult to French cuisine. We eat at La Madeliene often so we are pretty aware of the normal recipes especially in regards to a few regular menu items we have every visit ... one being the potato soup and they have undoubtedly "watered" it down. The only good thing was the water. It was clean, refreshing and cold. Our chicken pesto pasta was bland. We had to add Tabasco for flavor. The staff were all friendly and kept everything clean. The other guest were very insulting. I let a lady go ahead of me in line. She never thanked me. She went ahead and snapped her purse closed and locked it. Everytime the line moved she would glare at me as if we were going to do something to her. Apparently I'm a big scary threatening looking pregnant woman accompanied by her also scary looking hubby. This has been long time favorite if my wife and I's. Our kids have joined the love of their Tomato Basil Soup and heart shaped cookies. And who can forget the free bread? Three kinds?! This location, even at its busiest is always delicious and fresh. You can't go wrong with any of their bakery items, like strawberries romanoff. The atmosphere is an A+. Great date place.
