I went there with a group of friends for lunch. They apparently were short on staff. The same person took your order, then plated the salads. The roof was leaking right by the place where you ordered. The food was the same. Cold salads, warm soup and the bread was delicious. After paying, you get your utensils, drinks and complimentary bread slices. There was another leak there and floor wet signs and a bucket to catch the leak. one person slid and caught herself before falling. There was no one to clear your plates, so we did it ourselves before desserts. Went to this La Madeleine's on Monday 7/28 for Brunch. The service was ok, but the food was less than on ok. We placed our order, which included 2 orders of bacon, before we could get to the cashier, we were handed (1) order burnt bacon (3-pieces). We knew it could not have been freshly cooked there was not enough time to burn it. We refused to accept it, so the person took it back. He seemed upset that we did not want it. He just turned and walked away and didn't say anything. The cashier said I will have them make you some more. The rest of our order was served later with an order of bacon not as well done as the first, which was not fresh either, because if it was both of the orders of bacon would have come out at the same time. Then the side order of bacon came after we finished our entire meal. It looked as if it had been cooked in the microwave, but it was definitely better than the first and second order of bacon. Came in in a Sunday evening and the place was packed! Not toi packed to get an order in, but still pretty busy. I was doing a to go order and looked around for a takeout counter. Wasn't until I was at the front of the dining in line that the young lady pointed to the counter and told me they would take care of me there. It didnt bother me too much to get out of line and get in another one... well maybe just a little, but I think she did that because I would be out the door faster going to the takeout counter versus waiting in the long dining in line. I did get out pretty quickly since I wanted only a cup of soup. Country soup that is! The soup can come with cheese and bacon (real bacon in fact) to put in your soup, which by the way was really delicious even the next day. Food that's delicious the next day is pretty good in my book. Never dined in because its usually so busy, but thats an observation made from years of experience. I would NOT recommend this restaurant at all. Firstly, they didn't have an item that I ordered. That's completely fine but then they tried to get me to replace it with a much cheaper option. I decided to get a refund instead (which they claimed they couldn't do directly and I had to call the delivery service instead) Then they missed up my order in three different ways (gave me the wrong cheesecake which is much cheaper instead of the more expensive one that I paid for; didn't give me my drink; and didn't follow my instructions to heat up the croissant I ordered). I also ordered the chicken friand and even that was disgusting. My experience with this restaurant was just awful and frustrating. Based mostly off their coffee, I was more confused than anything else. I thought the ice tea was over priced at $2.59. But my focus is how bad my double cappuccino was. There is no reason why a cappuccino should be in a cup this large unless you afraid of spilling. But most of the time the size of the cup is already an indication they don't pay attention to their ratios, thus they have not been making anyone's coffee correctly. They don't have a manual (semi-automatic) espresso machine like you would see in coffee cafes. Theirs is considered super-automatic where you press a bunch of buttons and your shots/drink is made. It tastes like too much milk they just poured in. There is no creamy texture to the milk which means they created too much air bubbles on the top (excessively) and didn't mixed it in the milk, so you end up with tons of macrobubbles (should be microbubbles) on top with flat milk inside the drink. The drink should taste a lot more full. Whoever is the manager of this place, I would highly recommend getting real training for the employees who make the coffees. As you can tell, even with a fully automated espresso machine, you can still make your coffee drinks incorrectly. And then when I got back in line for food later, I believe the lady in front of me asked to get a refund for her cold brew because it was too bitter. Side ceasar salad was drenched in dressing, so if we come back we'll be getting the dressing on the side. The turkey & brie sandwich was good. I would order it again. I normally love La Madrleine but today was a bit of a let down. I came in for pick up and was not greeted when I walked in. My friend and I went straight to the bakery to decide what to get. We stood there for 5 minutes and still no acknowledgement. We were able to get someone's attention and got 5 items. The mini chocolate tart, mini fruit tart, mini lemon tart, the chocolate torte and the new Chantilly cake. The chooclate and fruit tart were booomb and absolutely delicious as always. the lemon tart on the other hand was a huge disappointment and it's one of my favorites. It's like they forgot the lemon and just squeeze on straight condensed milk. It was literally a condensed milk tart. The chocolate torte was decadent and rich and so guilty pleasure worthy. The new Chantilly cake was decent. It was missing something though. I'm a Whole Foods berry Chantilly girl myself so I guess I needed the berries. Overall, it was okay. Call me a glutton for punishment or slow. I Love La Madeline when I'm home thats where I love to go, sip coffee and eat the country breakfast leisurely starting my day. Well this time home I thought maybe because I flew in maybe I had caught the stomach flu and dismissed getting the runs and feeling cold and weak. Next day I ate there again and 45 minutes later I embarrassingly filled my Thankfully blk yoga pants while trying to pump gas... in waves of hot oatmeal flooding my pants. Oh my how things have changed, not for the better. We've been eating at La Madeline for 20 years, here and there. My wife and I nearly always get the same thing regardless of which Houston area location we ate at, the baked chicken, a caeser salad and the bow tie pasta with chicken, and the food was great anywhere we went. Saturday we changed things up at the Sugar Land location by First Colony mall. We noticed they no longer sell the bow tie pasta - which was GREAT, so we each chose an item that was on their list of "New" entrees. My wife got the Chicken Cordon Bleu Baked Pasta and I got the Ham and Swiss Crepe. We also got a "Gillette" to share. I asked the server what it was and he said it's a hash brown, to which I asked, so it's kind of like a hashbrown and he said, no, IT'S A HAHBROWN! We really love the place and as far as my reviews of anywhere are concerned, I usually don't review a place at less than a 3, if ever. Unless something very, very bad happened. Something very, very bad happened to La Madeline. We were so disappointed and sad at the same time. But let me first say this, the service was fast, clean and the employees were polite and nice. The issue isn't location or the employees AT ALL. I'll start with the Gillette, I mean hash brown. With tax and tip it's almost $4.00. Almost anywhere a hashbrown is half that price, but I wasn't so concerned about the price, I knew I was getting a hashbrown when I ordered it. I didn't expect it to be crunchy as in almost chip a tooth crunchy on the outside, and almost creamy on the inside. Very weird, very awful That's not why they get the bad review though, maybe that's just the way French hash browns are supposed to be, I'm totally serious. The review is because of the entrees. My dish in the photo looked yummy and looked like it would be filling. When it arrived I realized it was on a normal sized plate and the photo of the entree must've been taken on a plate just the next size larger than a coffee cup or tea saucer because you could've quadrupled the order and it would have easily fit on the plate. So, before I even had a bite I was disappointed with the small serving size but hoping it at least tasted good. So much for wishful thinking. I was grateful there was ONLY 2 small crepes because if there'd been 4 of them I wouldn't even have eaten the last 2. When I say they were bad, I don't mean they were spoiled bad, or cooked badly. I'm saying they were so salty it was ridiculous (and I love salt). The cheese did not have a good taste, the ham was about as thin as a 2 ply napkin and allegedly there was chicken in there too, somewhere. I found 1 piece, I think. I don't know if the cheese was the culprit, the ham or both. When I was leaving I spoke to an employee who will remain anonymous and mentioned the salt problem.. They told me "everyone says the same thing. I personally think it's the ham so when I order it I tell the Chef no ham, switch it for turkey". That may fix the salt problem, poor quality over salted ham to attempt to cover the poor taste of the poor quality ham, but it doesn't change the fact that the cheese was not very good either. I would never order it again, ever, and we may never go back either. But sorry to say, tat's not even why they get the bad review they are getting? If the Gillette and the crepe were the only problem I'd rate the meal as a 2, if I was generous. So let's get to the real point. My wife's entree was very, very good sized, probably 15 times the volume that my entree was, at least. It was so big that I even remarked before we took a bite "my, we may have to share some of that tonight because my meal is so small and we can still take it home and get about 3 more servings out of that, at least". We ate about 20% of it and both agreed, no doggy bad for us, it was awful with a capital A. Nothing was spoiled, nothing cooked wrong, but it too was way to salty, the cheese was not a very good tasting, the "diced ham" wasn't even diced, it was the same shredded paper thin salty ham that I had in my crepe, which was likely ruined or helped ruin the crepe in the first place. If we had never been to a La Madeline before and we had this meal, I'm 100% positive we would never, ever eat there again. The 2 entrees were really that awful. I love their Tomato Basil soup and the salads, but the current menu is a game changer. Any restaurant that could have such terrible items on their menu and continue to serve it does not deserve my business anymore especially since there is no way they do not know how bad those items are, they only need to try them. And like I said, even the employees remarked, when I politely expressed my concerns about those 2 entrees remarked "we know, I'm so sorry, everyone says the same thing". Such a shame, place isn't the same. Never eating there again. read more

I ordered the Caesar salad (no chicken). It was pretty good, not bad. I usually order their pesto pasta (again no chicken) and it is very good! I highly recommend trying it. Their desserts are also good as well. I usually order the chocolate eclairs. They remodeled this location and the drink station has better machines now to accommodate your drink preferences (a little futuristic lol). Their bread station is also in a different section than where it use to be, but it still gets crowded because bread. This fast casual bakery cafe is a good place to dine at for a quick bite. There's not a lot to the ambiance but it is sort of country style, lights are slightly dim, and is fireplace lit. The staff at this particular location aren't as great as the one at the Galleria mall location, and I had to approach, greet, then ask for help to select goods in the pastry case as it is separate from the rest of the line to place orders. The case is always filled with mouthwatering and eye pleasing sweet and savory items. The Sacher Torte (love the decadent and moist chocolate cake), linzer tarts, cheesecake, and plain croissant are to die for. The soups and salads are hearty and filling as a combo while the complimentary bread and butter at the end of the line are nice to have. Just don't expect the soup to be the best, as evidenced by the french onion soup topping (cheese barely there or melted and more like soft bread vs. hot bubbly cheese and croutons). The pasta dishes are not bad and most come with a breadstick too. I don't have a favorite yet, but time will tell. This time I tried the new breakfast crepes, which I thought was not bad at all. I liked the look of the crepe, and the taste of the fillings with the eggs, chicken, swiss cheese, onions that I selected, but the crepes was cold and sticky which isn't really appealing. A vent by the drink station was leaking and I slipped and fell, ignored by the staff. Another customer helped me up. When I pointed out the leak and the puddle on the floor, it took a number of tries before anyone even acknowledged me and when they did, it was with a shrug.
