I went in and ordered an avocado toast and hot tea in addition to purchasing two jars of jam. The young lady taking the order, Elaina, wasn't the friendliest nor service minded but I try not to let the emotions of others change mine. An example of her approach was when I tried to order a hot latte. She told me that she could only serve it cold. So I tried to order another hot drink and she said they didn't have it without any explanation. When I asked could I order any hot drink, she then stay the steamer was broken so I could only have hot tea or coffee. That should have been stated upfront to eliminate the need for me trying to place a hot drink order. But hot drink and attitude aside, the real issue arose when I got home and gave the order to my mother. Upon pulling the plastic container out of the bag, my mother showed me what appeared to be leftover toast with a thin smearing of avocado on its surface. Without even touching the pale bread, it appeared limp and cold. I have pictures which will speak volumes! In fact, the order didn't even appear to be a full order as each quartering of bread was cut in small pieces. I'm highly disappointed! I waited almost 30 minutes for pastries to go. The time on my receipt was 5:10pm, I got my order at 5:37pm. The entire order was just pastries, pastries that were right there, all of them were already made, and just have to be boxed. I specifically picked the ones that were already in the display case cause I did not want to wait. Most bakeries box your order as you're ordering them, maybe this place should do that. Also the wait is fine if I was informed like "there's a 30 minute wait are you okay waiting? " which also seems like a standard thing but apparently not for this place. The pastries weren't even great. They weren't bad but most definitely not worth the wait. Definitely regretted my visit here. Obviously I'm not going back but a friendly tip to others: next time you're at the to go counter make sure to ask if there's a wait and how long. read more

Today as I stood in front of the register to place my Togo order, the two ladies behind the counter continued to chat with one another while each preparing a package. This particular La Madeleine has been here for a while. I used to love coming here for the Parisienne eggs Benedict but that's no longer a menu item. The service is quick and polite but the food is a little lack luster. A lot of items are pre made and sitting under a warming lamp but that's not my issue. The food itself is just a little bland to me. I ordered the French country breakfast with bacinica over medium eggs, croissant and potato galette. Once everything got to me, everything was pretty much room temperature. It's ok for a quick sit down fix, but I probably won't be back for breakfast any time soon. It's funny to think how naive I have been in the past. I went to one of these restaurants on travel once and thought that I had found a great, unique French restaurant. Later I found out that there were a chain... but I was partially right. My wife and I have been coming to this location for many years. I've loved coming to la Madeleine for years now. I think the quality has gone just a bit down, would have given it a 5 star a couple years ago. My usuals here are chicken friand, chicken Caesar salad, my wife loves the country potato soup, and the chicken a Madeleine. I was inspired to order their beef on Parmesan mashed potatoes since I got an email ad about it, and the dish was really impressive! I think everything about this resturaunt is great. The aestethic they have is rustic, French (of course), brunch, and homey. Everywhere you look, they are stocked with the things they sell. Not one spot empty. The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly, always checking up on you to make sure you're good, but not too much to annoy you while eating. Everything looks pretty clean here and as far as I can tell, they are following COVID-19 safety guidelines. The food was delicious. I went with my boyfriend, he got pasta and I ordered the French toast. The French toast wasn't for my 100% liking, but it was still delicious and yes I ate it all, so I won't take away a star for that. For the most part, you can plan to pay $10-$15 per meal ordered (just for food), so it's right there in the middle as far as pricing goes. No longer good for breakfast. My family and I used to love coming in weekly for breakfast. It was a bit of a tradition. However, over the last several years, I've noticed changes in the menu and quality that have left this as more of a last resort breakfast option; especially when you consider options such as Snooze and Red Oak Cafe now in the area. To give some specifics, they used to serve something called the "Parisian Eggs Benedict". It was a well-executed benedict with ham and bacon over a fresh croissant. It also came with slices of tomato on the side which really brightened up the savory dish. The tomato was the first to go, asking for it resulted in a surchage. Then came the most shocking change: They dropped the "benedict" and swapped the poached eggs for simple fried eggs, keeping the hollandaise sauce (which is usually decent) but the overall dish just falls flat. It's heavy, salty and kind of a mess. I also noticed that they changed their french toast bread to croissant bread (economical on their part since it's a great way to make use of leftover croissants) but it's also just not as interesting. As of this morning, likely our last breakfast visit, we were served a waffle that was small, overpriced and pretty well burnt. To be fair, their lunches are still pretty good and the catering menu and staff at this location has always been satisfactory so all is not lost here. Hopefully, they'll get back to their original vision and complement the breakfast options rather than simply blend-in. read more

Is La Madeleine like going to a little bistro in France? I have no clue because I have never been to France (although I did take 2 years of French in High School)! What I do know is that this place serves up a pretty decent breakfast (no, it's not as good as what I can make at home, but if you call me the day before, I'll charge you $10 to come and eat at my house). I always order the custom omelette with egg whites, spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes. For whatever reason, they always seem to overcook the omelette ... not sure why. This comes with a croissant, too, so you can get your carb coma started. Le Monsieur (that's French for mister and I'm referring to my old man) and I always split the strawberries romanoff, which is strawberries and a brandy cream sauce ... Oui oui c'est une très bonne!
