Had a meal at La Madeleine for the first time in a long time. Went for breakfast around 11 a.m. I was disappointed. First of all, what restaurant does not have sausage and bacon when they have the breakfast menu out? How does that happen exactly? Even if the Sysco truck did not bring it, the manager is not aware of H‑E‑B? I mean, go pick some up. At the very least, tell customers, up front, there is no bacon or sausage when they order. Not when they have gone through the line to pay. "Uh. Did anyone mention we do not have sausage?" Me: "No. I'll have bacon then." Him: "Um. We don't have bacon either. How about turkey bacon?" Nobody likes turkey bacon. They plated the scrambled eggs, French toast, and the offending turkey bacon all on one small plate. Normally pancakes or French toast comes on its own plate so it is not tainted with runny eggs or greasy bacon. The Croque Madame was dry, room temperature, and generally disappointing. It was like it was cooked 5 hours prior. The Cesar salad's lettuce tasted of chemicals. Though not crowded, service was horrible. There was not one employee who smiled nor said anything nice at all. To anyone. Ever. Then I saw the manager who looked so miserable and like he did not want to be there. None of those employees had actual printed name tags. All, including the manager, had to write their name on their tags. What place doesn't have printed name tags. It's like their employees are temporary and disposable. And guess what? The lack of service, lack of basic breakfast foods, and cold food reflects all of that. Frankly I did not see anyone one customer who appeared happy. Tables all around us spoke of their own disappointing experience. What has happened to La Madeleine? What I know is I cannot go back. There are too many good restaurants who actually want business. Proceeded to line and the man behind the counter, was not friendly even though I did had plans to order ( previous service the same which is strange coming from people with dark skin). Decided to have coffee only love the coffee, reach the counter and was asking the cashier about pesto same as I ask the first person she said no they did not sell it. ok get my coffee walk over the bread counter saw the sign telling you to ask at counter. All people should be treated the same , this is the second or third time, an issues happen the first two years ago manager walking around giving out free samples, got to my table kept walking pass me ,, i question her about it and she gave me some bullshit as lies.. I had the sampler with the Caesar salad, spinach quiche & lentil soup. All were excellent. For dessert I got the mini berry thingy which also was very good and the almond croissant - which sucked. It had almonds on top, but I could not taste any of the almond paste inside. I could see it was there, but the plain butter croissants I pick up at Walmart tasted better than their almond croissant. They did used to be good, but whatever brand of almond paste they are using now just isn't cutting it. read more

I love la Madeline, I've never had a bad experience at any location. I have not been in awhile. Just met a friend for an afternoon snack and cup of coffee. I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and it was delicious and fresh, the coffee was fresh and good. It was pretty crowded (which is a good sign) it's very homey and comfortable inside. There is a counter in the from for bakery and Togo items and the regular line to order food from, kinda like cafeteria style where you get in line and order with your tray and move along. Came here around 8pm on a Saturday. Only wanted to pick out a dessert to go. There was a quite a long line to place orders, so we quickly got into line. The line moved SO SLOWLY. Once our order was placed, the wait was SO LONG to receive our items (the items that were were staring directly at behind the glass container). The young man who assisted us was very kind and that was the highlight of the ordering experience. I used the ladies room during our wait and found there to be writing all over the walls with a marker, trash littering the floor. The coconut cake and croissant that we got were absolutely delicious. The pastry was buttery and flaky just as it should be, a little too crunchy at the corners but, not a big deal because I never eat the entire thing. The mushroom cream sauce is my favorite. I could drink it from a cup..Lol I always order a little extra sauce. I've been coming to La Madeline plenty of times now and it's a great spot to eat and chat with friends or family. The environment, music, and vibe make it feels like you are jazzing in a France restaurant. My most recent trip, however, was not the best. The front people got my order wrong which led me to order and be charged for a soup I didn't want, however, just went along without causing much trouble. The Chicken Friand was good. Crispy puff pastry with a nice mushroom sauce. The french onion soup was not very good though. It tasted like it was watered-down and didn't leave a good aftertaste. I am looking for a bakery that rivals the one in my hometown. I kept seeing La Madeleine's menu and decided to try. I love quiche so I ordered the quiche Lorraine. It was bland. The crust was very good. I also ordered a palmier and an eclair. I loved the palmier and its flaky texture but the eclair was disappointing. I have had better from H E B. The tomato bisque was very acidic. It seems like a fistful of sugar put in the pot would improve it. I did enjoy the baguette.
