Had a meal at La Madeleine for the first time in a long time. Went for breakfast around 11 a.m. I was disappointed. First of all, what restaurant does not have sausage and bacon when they have the breakfast menu out? How does that happen exactly? Even if the Sysco truck did not bring it, the manager is not aware of H‑E‑B? I mean, go pick some up. At the very least, tell customers, up front, there is no bacon or sausage when they order. Not when they have gone through the line to pay. "Uh. Did anyone mention we do not have sausage?" Me: "No. I'll have bacon then." Him: "Um. We don't have bacon either. How about turkey bacon?" Nobody likes turkey bacon. They plated the scrambled eggs, French toast, and the offending turkey bacon all on one small plate. Normally pancakes or French toast comes on its own plate so it is not tainted with runny eggs or greasy bacon. The Croque Madame was dry, room temperature, and generally disappointing. It was like it was cooked 5 hours prior. The Cesar salad's lettuce tasted of chemicals. Though not crowded, service was horrible. There was not one employee who smiled nor said anything nice at all. To anyone. Ever. Then I saw the manager who looked so miserable and like he did not want to be there. None of those employees had actual printed name tags. All, including the manager, had to write their name on their tags. What place doesn't have printed name tags. It's like their employees are temporary and disposable. And guess what? The lack of service, lack of basic breakfast foods, and cold food reflects all of that. Frankly I did not see anyone one customer who appeared happy. Tables all around us spoke of their own disappointing experience. What has happened to La Madeleine? What I know is I cannot go back. There are too many good restaurants who actually want business. I love la Madeline, I've never had a bad experience at any location. I have not been in awhile. Just met a friend for an afternoon snack and cup of coffee. I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and it was delicious and fresh, the coffee was fresh and good. It was pretty crowded (which is a good sign) it's very homey and comfortable inside. There is a counter in the from for bakery and Togo items and the regular line to order food from, kinda like cafeteria style where you get in line and order with your tray and move along. Came here around 8pm on a Saturday. Only wanted to pick out a dessert to go. There was a quite a long line to place orders, so we quickly got into line. The line moved SO SLOWLY. Once our order was placed, the wait was SO LONG to receive our items (the items that were were staring directly at behind the glass container). The young man who assisted us was very kind and that was the highlight of the ordering experience. I used the ladies room during our wait and found there to be writing all over the walls with a marker, trash littering the floor. The coconut cake and croissant that we got were absolutely delicious. Hi had lunch at this location today. Everyone was friendly, the restaurant was clean and my lunch was fantastic! I had the Chicken Friand, it's my favorite. The pastry was buttery and flaky just as it should be, a little too crunchy at the corners but, not a big deal because I never eat the entire thing. The mushroom cream sauce is my favorite. I could drink it from a cup..Lol I always order a little extra sauce. The environment, music, and vibe make it feels like you are jazzing in a France restaurant. My most recent trip, however, was not the best. The front people got my order wrong which led me to order and be charged for a soup I didn't want, however, just went along without causing much trouble. The Chicken Friand was good. I am looking for a bakery that rivals the one in my hometown. I kept seeing La Madeleine's menu and decided to try. I love quiche so I ordered the quiche Lorraine. It was bland. The crust was very good. I also ordered a palmier and an eclair. I loved the palmier and its flaky texture but the eclair was disappointing. I have had better from H E B. The tomato bisque was very acidic. It seems like a fistful of sugar put in the pot would improve it. I did enjoy the baguette. What a great little spot! Loved the feel inside and it was very informal in all the right ways. Simply order on the counter and pick a seat. I went in and ordered an avocado toast and hot tea in addition to purchasing two jars of jam. The young lady taking the order, Elaina, wasn't the friendliest nor service minded but I try not to let the emotions of others change mine. An example of her approach was when I tried to order a hot latte. She told me that she could only serve it cold. So I tried to order another hot drink and she said they didn't have it without any explanation. When I asked could I order any hot drink, she then stay the steamer was broken so I could only have hot tea or coffee. That should have been stated upfront to eliminate the need for me trying to place a hot drink order. But hot drink and attitude aside, the real issue arose when I got home and gave the order to my mother. Upon pulling the plastic container out of the bag, my mother showed me what appeared to be leftover toast with a thin smearing of avocado on its surface. Without even touching the pale bread, it appeared limp and cold. I have pictures which will speak volumes! In fact, the order didn't even appear to be a full order as each quartering of bread was cut in small pieces. I'm highly disappointed!
