The only reason this place did not get 5 stars was due to the eggs Benedict cooked unevenly (one egg was runny) other than that the banana French toast was delicious fluffy with fresh bananas. My husband found this jewel using Yelp. We had a delicious breakfast there to start with. Mary Beth, our waitress found out we were celebrating our anniversary and told us about there once a month dinner that is very special. So we back the next night for that which did not disappoint. AMAZING! We called ahead to let them know we had a party of 8 and they were very welcoming. We did not know that they typically close at noon on Sunday's but they stayed open for us and accommodated our party by rearranging tables so we could all sit together. I love great food, I love great service, and I am now a loyal guest. Whenever my friend Jason and I are in town, we will be spending our hard earned poker money at this fine establishment. Super cute little cafe. Tried a half order of each of their eggs Benedict and they were both good. It's my first time having that dish so I don't have a comparison but definitely yummy. Very relaxing and was able to sit and read with my book for a good chunk of time. What really made it was the server though. I was road tripping and he offered a ton of great options for my last day on the coast based on what I was into for the trip. What an amazing place. The food was very very good. It's not really big inside but they get you in and out as soon as they can. If you have a party of 4 or more call for reservations. Our breakfast was great but they accidentally charged us twice on our credit card. Once we discovered the double charge, I figured they would cooperate and refund the second charge. After several weeks of repeated calls and polite assurances that they would get back to us, they never refunded the charge nor did they bother to call back even once. On my final call, the politeness disappeared and they hung up on me while I was still speaking. I would expect a restaurant to correct an error like this immediately -- not ignore it for weeks and especially not to hang up on a paying customer. No breakfast for you!!!!!! ...Well, we decided to drive over here for breakfast from our Nye Beach district hotel... Reading reviews, that the food was pretty good but not great service. We got a little lost trying to find the place and arrived 5 minutes before 11 AM. We were greeted by the chef who was currently cooking breakfast on the grill. They have a nice open kitchen behind their delicious looking pastry case. The place was packed, the atmosphere, cozy!! We told him that " we got a little lost and were hoping he could still serve us some of the tasty eggs Benedict we had heard was so yummy." Unfortunately, when he looked up at us, he said "NO, no more breakfast". It wasn't quite 11 AM yet, we said we'd order right away, and he became disgruntled and said "NO" once again. We said "Ok, we would really like breakfast, so well find another place." I can understand being "over it" for cooking breakfast, but maybe be a little nicer next time. After cracking eggs and getting them all over his hands. This is a MUST go to while your in Newport. My fiancé and I come to Newport yearly and we dream about the day we get to eat the food here. I think about the eggs Benedict all year long till i get to come back. Owner is very friendly and down to earth and they're very accommodating to customers. I have yet to try something on her menu that is not delicious. The eggs Benedict, French toast, croissants, pastry's, mimosas... Everything is made from scratch so the wait for your food may be a minute but every second you wait is well worth it. I recommend this restaurant to whoever comes to Newport. We love it here. Our daughter wanted to treat her dad to a special birthday breakfast when we came to visit her, and brought us to La Maison. Husband is a sauce snob :) so is usually skeptical of ordering his favorite, eggs benedict but he did, and was impressed. He said it was the best hollandaise he's ever had. I had the banana french toast (yum!) and our granddaughter had the Paris omelet, daughter the eggs Sardu. We all tried everyone else's dishes and loved them all. The house-made english muffins and croissant were exceptional. Can't say enough good about that meal, including the coffee. Meh, they kind of went halfway with it. The food was pretty good but not outstanding and the service was terrible. I like that they allowed their kids (or young kids) to help out in their restaurant, but they forgot everything. Had to ask for silverware 2 or 3 times, forgot water, just no real service. The pasteries were phenomenal, and so we took a bunch of cake to go for a party... stellar! This place is pretty darn cozy, and definitely has the feeling of small town. However, the food is world class. The bacon is perfectly cooked, absolutely could not be better. The french toast is one of the most delicious breakfasts I have ever had in my life. As for those who give this place a 2 rating because of poor service......part of the homespun feel of this place (to go along with their open kitchen), is that you can literally talk with the waitstaff or even the chef, while you're enjoying your meal, so if you feel that you're not being waited on to your satisfaction, just ask for what you want. I should also mention, being a bit of a tea snob, that they have an excellent selection of both loose leaf and bagged teas to choose from, including some extraordinary imported teas. This place deserves way more than five stars in my book. My boyfriend and I encountered this place after driving through Newport seeking somewhere to stop and grub before hitting the road again. The picky diners we are, we visited almost every breakfast place in town and left each one feeling grumbly in mood and tummy. However upon walking into the door of La Maison we knew we had at last found our niche. Everything about the place charmed us. The owners, Cliff and Kate, met us at the door with genuine smiles and were warm and conversational throughout the meal. After the killer appetizer of fresh, sliced banana and hazelnuts in cream we were promptly served the main course. I scarfed down my french toast in seconds and my boyfriend raved that his was by far the BEST eggs benedict he's ever eaten in his life. All in all, La maison is a true gem and if I lived in Newport I would eat out nowhere else. The food, service, and atmosphere of this cafe went WAY above and beyond my hopes and expectations and I can't wait for the next time we are in Newport to visit and chow down on their sublime cuisine once more. We love coming to Newport Oregon, especially when it's 98 degrees in California. We went to La Maison for lunch and had an incredible meal. I had the marinated steak and au gratin potatoes which were to die for. The steak was tender and yummy. It is the place to go when you are in town. Their homemade pastries and breads are out of this world. They are only open 9 to 3 and have a dinner on Friday nights which we never seem to make. I wish we had something this good in California it is a true delight and we look forward to our next visit there. read more
