Curry was amazing. We put 6 kids in one globe and 6 adults in another. It was a recipe to make anyone quit right then and there. He handled it with grace and humor. Not only did he tend to their irrational needs but he served them desert while we had our main meal so we could eat in peace. Many people took pictures of these unruly children in a globe by themselves but he just laughed on. He also had great history of the city, gave us incredible recommendations on our food and left us feeling like family. I would absolutely recommend this place to eat. Stellar dining experience at this charming classic French restaurant in downtown Telluride. We sat outside where the weather was perfect and service was attentive. Our group started with the Charcuterie plate. I'm just now looking at the menu and apparently we ate chicken liver mousse. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have chosen this bc of my preconceived idea of eating liver but is was flavorful and had a nice texture. The flavor was elevated by the mustard and radish. We also shared the marinated olives. I tried the heirloom tomatoes which were served with eggplant purée. So fresh and seasoned well. We shared the melt in your mouth wagyu steak. This place is a TOTALLY different place under new ownership than it was last time I came in 2020. And not in a good way. Like shockingly bad. The appetizers were edible, but everything else was not. DO NOT COME HERE. What makes matters worse - we told the head chef how bad our food was (none of us ate much of our entrees) and they didn't take a single dime off the $900 bill. Honestly one of the worst experiences we've ever had dining out. Waiter Oliver was fine. Used to be our favorite place in town for Christmas dinner. Again, don't go. Chicken - too salty to eat Gnocchi - terrible. No sauce. Trout - soggy Beef - way too salty and no sauce. Just fat. Lard all over the place. The French onion soup was luke warm, lacked flavor, just a touch of cheese. Biggest disappointment is on a $95 prix fixe menu was the duck cassoulet that had maybe 2oz of shredded duck and 2 lbs of beans. Flavor was ok, but never have I had this dish without a full piece of duck and usually chunks of sausage. Dessert was fine if you like a tub of chocolate. Will not repeat unfortunately. Food was very good as was the wine by glass selection. Server was little overly chatty but nice and did offer good service. From the prix fixe, we started with an onion soup and market salad. Both were very nicely prepared and delicious. Onion soup is easy to make too salty, this wasn't and had very clean distinct flavors. For my main, I had the riz et champignons which is a mushroom risotto of sorts, excellent flavor and not heavy as a risotto can be. My wife had the trout which she enjoyed very much. We topped off desserts with chocolate and cherry clafoutis + the apple crumble. Nothing was left when we finished, super good. The black mark on the restaurant is a insulting 4% check add on for "employee health & housing". This added $10+/- to the check on a $95/pp prix fixe. This is not a cheap dinner. Don't insult your guests. Make the prix fixe $100 and be done with it. Adding 4% and asking for another 20-25% tip is obnoxious and why I won't return. Charge what you want to charge UP FRONT, don't nickel and dime us. read more

We each ordered the prix fixe menu, or 3 courses for $95 each. I had one glass of wine (at a whopping $25) and my husband had one beer at $10. Therefore you can imagine our surprise when the bill came. 95 * 2 = 190 + 25 + 10 should be closer to $225. We expressed our concern and the waiter explained certain items had an up charge. Ok... but the menu I had did not reflect these charges. They provided the wrong menu! Instead of honoring the price, they offered a bottle of wine. Note this very nice, classy, romantic restaurant is clearly popular and you def need reservations for dinner. BUT... we were lucky enough to walk in at sunset (8ish) to have our last hoorahh drink before heading home. We were welcomed with open arms and seated within minutes despite a sold out restaurant. A friend wanted to eat in one of the glass igloos. She also reviewed the online menu, which sealed the deal with duck and Foie gras being posted. We rearranged our schedules to meet the restaurant's availability. This place has also gone prix fixe with a few items having an upcharge. The igloo was a cool experience. The dining menu does not match the online menu. Our server seemed a bit put out when we mentioned that the reason we came was because of the online menu. It wasn't the servers fault and we didn't grumble much about the issue, just stated that if the menu changes frequently the website person should make the updates. The rest of the service was great!!! Food was fine. I don't know there is a new chef, new management or what, but the restaurant and food are not the same as my last visit. In all fairness that was pre-Covid, but that trip ranked a 5 star service. Drink prices are crazy. I ordered a cognac French 75 and it is $30! We went to Marmotte tonight for the first time. The food and service was very good. I have to say though that an incident that left a bad taste in my mouth. I left a yeti cup by my table. I went back in person an hour later and it was gone apparently, I guess a staff person pilfered it as it was near closing time and no one else was seated near us. Atmosphere and service are excellent. Unfortunately, the food is only slightly above average fare which would be great, however they are doing a fixed price menu at $95 per person. This includes 3 small courses. The food is simply not worth it. By the time you add wine or any up charges you will be paying around $150 per person. This is not a Michelin Star restaurant and they should not charge like they are at that level. Further, not all of the selections were available (the best ones). This is purely an example of limited seating due to Covid restrictions and a restaurant trying to recoup at the expense of the patrons. Specifically, the short ribs were dry and salty, the coq au vin was good, the fish was average. Up charge for oyster appetizer. Included appetizers and deserts were meh. The wine was advertised and priced as a 2017, but delivered as a 2018. No apologies. Was a very special place, but the food and lack of attention to detail does not make this a fine dining establishment. Finally, the owner was a bit rude upon our arrival and another employee had to step in and take care of us. We were being extremely polite. Maybe he can as having a bad day. People with allergies BEWARE! We went to dinner last night, and the night started out great! Drinks were delicious, the restaurant was adorable, and the host was most welcoming. Things started going downhill when we started the appetizers. My boyfriend and I both have severe allergies (shellfish and tree nuts) and we informed our waitress at the start of the meal. When we received the steak tartare, it didn't look right and my boyfriend started to say that it felt "off" to him. Fast forward 15 min, and he starts having a full allergic reaction - tongue tingling, face bright red, trouble swallowing, tight chest, the works. We immediately asked the waitress about cross contamination with tree nuts, and she said that there was none so she didn't know what could've caused this. We took our remaining dinner to go (thankfully she was quick to box up our entree and dessert), and I hightailed it to a gas station to grab him some benadryl. The remaining of my night consisted of waking up every hour to check on him, giving him benadryl every few hours, and having my epi pen on the night stand in case his symptoms continued to get worse. I called La Marmotte when we got home, and left a voicemail informing them that it was definitely cross contamination and that I was very disappointed. I did get a call back today with an apology, but no acknowledgement as to what they could do to apologize. Thankfully we know what to do with severe allergic reactions, however I've never been to a restaurant as expensive as La Marmotte that didn't take cross contamination seriously. If you have any kind of allergies, I would say avoid this place at all costs so you don't potentially have a severe allergic reaction. Extremely disappointed since our experience started out great, and ended with a medical emergency and no thought as to how to apologize for our experience. read more

Such a sweet place. Very inviting with pine ceilings and exposed brick walls. Walk in past the adorable small bar, and towards the back for the dining room. We were looking forward to eating at La Marmotte for over a month and it did not disappoint! The service was the best I've seen anywhere - keeping the table spotless, filling our water glasses, checking in without being overbearing. We got the bone marrow to start. That and the house made bread were incredible. We then did the $80 prix fix menu. To begin we got the fois gras and the sausage - outstanding! I actually think these were the stars of our meal. For entrees my husband got lamb and I got the Chicken Ballantine - made with fresh pasta and morels! It was amazing. To finish I got the creme brûlée and it was excellent. Without a doubt the BEST overall fine dining experience in Telluride. I throw in fine dining because I love the overall experience at THERE bar as well. However, the quality of the food, the ambiance and our waiter (can't remember the name-Male who surfs the Great Lakes in winter) was educated and engaged in our dining experience. The French onion soup is better than anything I've tasted in the United States. The restaurant is not inexpensive, but its on par with The National (bartender there is a bitter employee), Allreds, 227 South Oak and the like. Both aforementioned restaurants are excellent but La Marmotte is extra special. The new owner has injected the restaurant with the highest caliber employees and ingredients. Don't skip this place if you desire fine dining in Telluride. read more

We have been eating in Telluride restaurants for many years and tonight's meal at La Marmotte was one of the very best! Summer prix fixe is $80 for three generously sized courses. Given the high cost of food right now, we thought it was very reasonably priced. The new decor is elegant and spare and the space was nice and quiet. I took 10 of my friends to this restaurant on January 2. I have been to this restaurant before. I have been a resident of Telluride for 26 years. We ordered oysters as an appetizer and only four people ate the oysters. Out of the four people who ate the oysters - we all got oyster poisoning. Two of us ended up in the emergency room, and the other two of us were sick for two days straight not being able to keep anything down. When I went to go talk to the manager about it, he told me that he would research into it and that was it. He would not help me further and told me to leave the restaurant - he walked me to the door. We spent over $2000 at night that dinner And this was the hospitality we received back from management. On top of all of this, I left a bag that was given to me as a birthday gift worth $300 and I called the same night to make sure they kept the bag. But since I was in the emergency room, I was unable to get it the next day. Someone took it After the fact I called management to save the bag for me. I would not recommend going to this restaurant, especially with their seafood and level of service. If you want overprice trash French food and If you want to vomit and purge you should go. On top of everything, I also brought in my doctors note describing that I had oyster poisoning and management seemed not to care, but rather tell me that they sell over 400 oysters a day. Weird night for La Marmotte. The computers were down so they couldn't accept credit cards. When we walked in, the guy at the check in was less then friendly and just said "you will need to go the atm." When asked where the atm was he said, well I will have to ask where the atm is. Just odd given his insistence that we needed to get cash ASAP. We ended up sitting down and we greeted by a much friendlier staff. The food was good. I've been here before and the food has been better, but it always good. The atmosphere is neat, it's located in the old ice storage for the town. The week we went, the weather was warm during the day and cold at night causing the outside area to be a sheet of ice. They weren't really helping with the situation so it was an adventure trying to get form the street to the front door with a few 70+ year old people. Again, I think it was a weird night. The man who sat us down wasn't even the usual manager who came by later and was extremely nice and apologetic and even mentioned that we could come back the next day to pay. I will likely be back.
