We are absolutely charmed with this place. We were in town takin our dog to the vet and needed a nice place to eat with healthy food and outdoor seating... we called ahead and they said our pup was welcome at their outdoor tables. When we got here they got us seat cushions and an umbrella for the table. At one point there were three wonderful polite gentlemen buzzing about asking about the dog, what we needed, etc. good service goes a long way on its own, but then the food was stellar to top it off. We ordered the shish for two and the portions were enormous and affordable ($15/person). The lamb was the most tender I have ever had. Wow wow wow. They never let our bread, garlic, or water glasses run dry. The food is served slowly, giving you time to eat, talk, and enjoy the afternoon. Really wanted to love this place. The free pita bread and fresh garlic was delicious, and the Fattoush salad was tasty, but I just wasn't impressed by the Chicken Shawarma sandwich/wrap. Eat lunch here 2-3 x's per week. The staff is friendly and fast. The pitas and garlic spread to start are items I dream about before hitting the sack. Who doesn't love a nice warm pita to start a meal. I always stick with the chicken, hummus and rice. Sometimes a Greek salad with salmon. The Shish Tawook is also excellent. Fantastic fresh food. I have been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. I bring guest from out of town, and they love it as well. The fattoush salad with grilled chicken is a great healthy option. I also enjoy their grilled vegetables and rice. Their lentil soup is great, especially if you add the fresh lemon that it's served with. The fresh pita and garlic dip are amazing. I haven't had anything here that I don't like. You can tell they strive for fresh food , it shows in their dishes, and it is much appreciated! read more

What a joke. I'm not sure how this place has good reviews. This is the second time in a year I have tried LA Marsa and it is miserable to eat here. For starters our waitress was awful. She was incredibly unfriendly and rude. I ordered Spinach Pie as an appetizer and it came almost 30 minutes later. It wasn't Spinach Pie but some strange meat dish. When she finally came back she was unapologetic and proceeded to bring me ice cold Spinach Pies. When I called it out again she stormed off. The garlic sauce with the complimentary bread was bitter and inedible. The Falafel Sandwich I ordered was pathetic. More bitter garlic sauce and a slice of tomato with unwashed lettuce. Who eats this garbage? Please, please do not eat here. Drive to Falafel King in Farmington Hills or at the very least Lentil in Novi. This isn't authentic and it isn't worth the trouble. read more

OLD FRIEND, NEW MEMORIES What's better than returning to my home state of Michigan and breaking bread with a friend sharing memories of our glory days? Top that off with a cuisine I don't eat as often as I'd like to back in my new home (in Los Angeles) - La Marsa Mediterranean Cuisine (543 Grand River Avenue in Brighton, Michigan) - and that makes for a great evening walking between the spring raindrops. Seeing a friend with whom I had recently reconnected after a twenty five year lapse after college, I wanted to surprise him on his birthday (he didn't know I remembered). Our meal started with discs of soft, golden brown spheres with a garlic smear (reminiscent of Zanku Chicken in Los Angeles). Bring a toothbrush because your breath begins to stink just looking at it. My friend and his wife, interested in eating healthier, less processed foods had mainly vegetarian faire, but the menu was loaded with dishes from all over the Mediterranean (Egypt, Malta, Morocco and Syria). Koshary (Egyptian,$11.99) a large plate loaded with pasta, rice, lentils, tomato sauce and topped with crunchy fried onions. The man of the hour had the Tomato Kibble (Armenian, Lebanese $9.99), a mix of cracked wheat, green onions, herbs and olive oil that reminded me of a steak tartar. I rounded out the trio with their Lamb Chops ($24.99) with veggies and crushed lentil soup. The chops were a little past the medium temperature I requested and a tad under salted but overall a great meal. Our server Yassin was from Morocco, providing EXCELLENT backstory on this type of cuisine for the uninitiated, what items to try and where the different dishes originated from. He even gave me tips on traditional teas to try from his native country. I arrived a few moments earlier than my friends and worked with the owner/host on seating (which became scarce very quickly after 6pm) and a possible birthday surprise for one friend. Friendly and welcoming he offered a great table in two spots as options before the rush and said a free desert would be served to the birthday boy. The restaurant anchors a strip of shops and is very open. The lobby waiting area is odd because as a diner you feel the eyes of those waiting for a table on feet away due to how the benches are situation. A gentleman was impatiently waiting and pacing the restaurant because of this openness which is distracting for diners. Overall a great dining experience: great food, nice atmosphere (fireplace on the west side of the dining room) clean throughout, La Marsa is a great way to talk away the rain on a Southeastern Michigan spring day. read more

I'm sitting in La Marsa as I write this. I am utterly disappointed. This must be some of the most bland food I have ever tasted. I had to salt my soup (and I hate having to salt food in a restaurant just to get a little flavor), and the falafel was not identifiable as such. The only saving grace was the bread brought out before the meal. It was a delicious pocket bread. Service was weak too. My soup was brought out on top of my falafel (i.e. at the same exact time), and the staff was uninterested and acted like I was a nuisance. I will not return to La Marsa. I usually give restaurants a second chance, but I am so disappointed that I will not be returning. It's a shame too - I really could use a nice middle eastern restaurant around here. read more

I went here after a friend suggested it and it was amazing!. The boyfriend and I tried the shish sampler. First off, it was an incredibly generous amount of food. We took at least 2/3 of it home. Definitely a great idea for a double date order ask everyone gets a little of everything. All of the food was very good. Fresh and hot, with attentive service. The waitress mentioned in some of the other reviews was no where to be found. Each of the three times I've been here the service has been very good from the moment we walked in the door. At first it seems a bit fancy, I felt guilty for wearing jeans. The restaurant is beautiful but they don't seem to mind more casual attire. Unfortunately, I've lived in Dearborn and know good Arabic food. We have ordered a platter with kabob meat, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, shawarma meat, and soup. Not the good balance of flavor we are used to with Al-ameer off Warren in Dearborn. Will have to continue a search for an equivalent... I had visited this place multiple times over the past few years, back when it had a larger deli area (I believe it was under a different name/management - not sure though) and it always was a safe bet for us in Brighton. This most recent visit however, left me saddened by the fact that I won't be visiting Brighton very often and thus missing opportunities to eat here (the family I visit in Brighton is moving). This place was downright wonderful! Full Disclosure - I have an infant & a toddler, so generally speaking, while they are very well behaved and patient (surprisingly), we are usually ordering the meal & the check at the same time. At La Marsa however, there was no need: Service: Outstanding. Multiple people are checking on (not annoying) you and very knowledgeable - will also give you their honest opinion. The speed at which we received our meals was better than expected considering made-to-order - and even if it wasn't, the amazing pita & house made garlic whipped-butter keeps you well tided over. FYI - they don't hold back on the garlic, which we loved, but for those that aren't prepped for that, you'll want a gallon of mouthwash, a scrub-brush and probably some Tums. Food: Again, outstanding. I ordered the lentil soup (my favorite comfort food), added a nice squeeze of lemon and was happy from the get-go. My wife ordered a chicken-shawarma sandwich (excellent - I had a bite) and a side of baba ghannouj (my 2 year-old INHALED this). I wanted Tabbouli, but also a sandwich - so lucky me, I got the Hoummous & Tabbouli sandwich. Hands-down the best Middle-Eastern sandwich I've ever had. Amazing. Price: Very fair for what you get. Sandwiches are on the cheap side, entrees appear pricey, but are massive portions - so in the end, they nailed it. I was visiting the area and decided to stop here for dinner; I have no regrets. The food was amazing! Loved the hummus and garlic spread, though the garlic was stronger than anticipated (not really a bad thing, just an observation). My main entree was the Shish Kabob (lamb) and I loved it. My friend ordered a falafel sandwich and a chicken shawarma sandwich. She said the falafel sandwich wasn't bad, but she definitely liked the chicken shawarma sandwich. The service was great too; the waitstaff did an excellent job and the wait time for the food was not very long (the restaurant wasn't packed, but seemed moderately busy). I crave this food! Absolutely amazing. Nothing in the area compares. Their lunch portions are the perfect size. If you get a dinner size you can definitely share it between 2 people. The hummus is a must! They give you pita bread and garlic butter as an appetizer. I highly recommend mixing the garlic butter and hummus-- so good! I have had them cater before and they did an awesome job with that as well! If you are picky like me and only like Coke.. They have cans of coke products for purchase (no free refills-understandably) and Pepsi products on tap. I go here like once a week! read more

It's one of my favorite places in the area. I've had the lamb, hummus, bread and garlic sauce and it's all very good. The place is very clean, the decor is appropriate and service is excellent. My only gripes are that the prices are a touch high on dinners and parking is next to impossible during peak hours. I really hope everyone in the area checks them out. Yesterday was my first time visiting this restaurant. The food and customer service was outstanding. The fresh pita bread that is brought to the table was amazing. I ordered a fattuosh salad as a starter and chicken shawarma sandwiches with fries as my main order. My girlfriend ordered lamb kabobs as her main dish. As I stated before, the food here is excellent and we will be returning in the future. The owner/manager Gordon made sure to check on us during our meal as well as go out of his way to greet us on our way out of the restaurant. Good customer service goes a long way. read more

So I've decided to give my review from a year and a half ago a bit of a facelift. Service is still slow as balls, so don't come here if you've got plans later on in the night. But they load you up with bread and garlic sauce galore and the food is always piping hot and delicious. The food quality has gotten much more consistent since they opened. The wife and I and are addicted to the lamb and hummus. We usually order the appetizer portion. Ask for it to be separated, otherwise you get warm greasy lamb all over cold hummus. Doesn't travel well. Or keep well. We then order about a dozen and a half pita and just goes nuts on the stuff. I like to make little sammiches out of them; smear some hummus on a pita, load lamb down the middle, fold up pita, commence eating. The one thing I wish they'd get better at is their timing. If you need 20 minutes for pick-up, call at 30 minutes. If you show up on time, you ALWAYS wait around for your food which gets old. read more

If you are a person that likes a more Lebanese take on Mediterranean, you will like LaMarsa. It is my go-to, and never disappoints. Welcome to awesome ! We love in Ohio but driving back here is worth it to eat great food. The lamb kabob was awesome and tender. Loved the soup selections ; my husband had lamb vegetable and I had the crushed lentil . The garlic sauce is very good wit h the fresh bread _a little goes a long way !!! We enjoyed the generous portions . Our waiter was personable and knowledgeable about all the dishes and made great suggestions. Najem is his name !!!! We drove home to realize we had gotten someone else's order. We called the restaurant to let them know. They could have easily said ok and hung up. Terrific ! Mediterranean cuisine. Our family eats here or gets carry out frequently. By frequently I mean at least 3-4 times in a month or more. The owner and his family are always there and staff are wonderful and very pleasant. The restaurant decor, seating and size very accommodating to handle Friday or Saturday night rush of dinners . As for the food, well I have never had a bad meal no matter what we order. It's always very consistent and everything is seasoned very nicely. The lemon seasoning is very good, they make a great garlic hummus and he warm bread OMG is killer with the hummus. Enjoy if you go it's all good, they do it right at a fair price. read more

This used to be one of my favorite places, but the last 3 visits are going to stop me from coming in. Went there tonight for my birthday dinner. Waited for almost 25 minutes before the server returned with waters without offering an apology. Then never returned to fill our waters. When he finally returned, he only filled half our waters and said he would be back, but never did. Then we waited another 20 minutes for his to return so we can ask for boxes and the check. Never once did he offer an apology. This is a smiler experience to our past few visits. The food was good, but the service has been so bad it's not worth it anymore. My wife and I usually get a carry out from here. The food is great. Came in on Friday 2-9-18 at about 7:30. Not very busy. We were seated immediately and then ignored for 15 minutes. A waiter walked past us at least two times and didn't even acknowledge us. We ended up getting up and leaving. Disappointed because we really like this place. read more
