Old, microwaved food. Nothing was fresh. Plates were scorching hot from being microwaved, food congealed on the plate upon arrival. Bland, old, and tasteless. The meat in the flautas were old and reheated. Salsa was oily for some reason as well? Guacamole was not fresh either, clearly store bought. Quite easily the worst TexMex I've ever had. So the Chronicle had some good reviews on this place so we went to try it out. Got there just before 3 to miss the crowd.... Order Margs, I like mine on the rocks with no salt. Sitting at the bar I got to watch him pour mine from a mixed bottle, maybe 8-10 ounces over ice that added to the mix because it melted right away, cost $9.50... for $9.50 I expect at least smell some tequila. Should be a notice that if you want to get that happy buzz you will need at least 2-3.... Ordered the queso flameado to start and it was the finish. The chorizo was mild enough to feed to a baby and the cheese was way too skimpy. But that didn't stop them charging $16.25. The worst by far was the small amount of chips they brought first were stall or cooked in old grease... now mind you I'm trying to keep away from carbs so I should thank them so that. So we won't be back, Gringos is closer to home and a lot better. But don't take my word for it, go try it for yourself and let me know if you had a better experience. read more

The mole sauce was delicious, however the beans were sour or tasted spoiled and were cold. I gave this visit 3 stars because the service was lacking on this visit. Our waiter had an attitude from the beginning and for every refill had to be called upon, as he was in the corner with other waiters talking and laughing not paying attention to his tables. The other waiters were watching their tables, but ours had his back to us the entire time. The ambiance was not as welcoming on this visit. This was my second time and I took my wife because I had bragged about the place. Such a disappointment in the customer service. Let's do better next time. The green sauce was better than the red. Chips are fresh. They have aguas frescas, sodas and plenty of adult beverages. The ambiance is nice and there are plenty of TV's on. I first discovered LA Mexicana when looking for breakfast tacos for a work meeting. Everything was very good and clearly homemade (including the tortillas). So, I ordered delivery for myself today. Of course I had to get some more breakfast tacos, but I also tried a few other things. The tacos are good portions. Even the chorizo & egg, and macahacado & egg tacos have good portions of chorizo and machacado. They definitely don't skimp on the ingredients. I also tried the carne guisada plate (with refried beans, rice and tortillas). They forgot my tortillas but everything is so good that I don't even care. Haha. (I always have tortillas, or can make my own.) Once again, fresh and homemade. Very good. The ONE thing I did NOT like was the tres leches. First of all, it's the smallest $10 piece of tres leches I've ever seen. That wouldn't be so bad if it tasted good. It didn't have much flavor or sweetness. (HEB has better tres leches.) The food was overall decent; I got a couple breakfast tacos and felt the filling was tasty but the tortillas were a bit hard and not fresh. Like our other spots, this place is full of people in scrubs early in the morning. Service is always great, no complaints there. I was told the margaritas are great here. I started off with a small guava marg and quickly wished I got the big one. This drink was so delicious and refreshing and a perfect compliment to a breakfast meal. Be careful as these things will sneak up on you. Their chips and salsas were good, but they definitely need bigger bowls for the salsa. I couldn't decide on food so I just got a variety of tacos.
