The food here is fantastic! The menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming. It's heavy on the seafood, so that I what I ordered. The Fillet Relleno is a fillet of white fish, pan fried and stuffed with scallops and squid. It was great. They heat the tortillas on a grill and get them crispy, so they're hot and delicious, but not ideal for making tacos out of your meal. Heads up, if you want some butter to go with those tortillas, they'll charge you almost $3 for it! The service is spotty. My friend got his fajitas well before I received my meal. But, he didn't actually receive any silverware until my meal arrived. And, I didn't get my margarita until after I received my food. Tracking someone down to pay your bill can be challenging, as well. This place is LOUD! Whether it is the amplified mariachi roaming the restaurant or music playing on the speakers, this place is definitely loud and makes table conversation challenging. A friend and I ended up at La Morena as the restaurant we planned to go to was closed for the weekend. We've been there previously and avoid it due to the extreme noise. It is so loud conversation is virtually impossible. Service was very fast, we'd barely sat down before the server asked if we were ready to order. The menu is 12"x18" (perhaps larger) and at least 14 pages long. It takes awhile to get through and it's easy to miss something. Both my friend and I ordered tostadas, 3 for $14.99. My friend ordered, then I ordered. The server asked me, but not my friend, if I'd like 2. I said something like "I can get fewer than 3?" She replied 1, 2. I said I'd have 2 tostadas, as did my friend. The food came very quickly and was tasty. Then the bill came, I didn't look closely at it and gave the server my credit card. When she returned with the bill and I looked at it I noticed we were charged $15.00, odd. I called her back and asked about price - ok, only a penny from the $14.99. She said we'd ordered al la carte and tostadas were &7.50/each. I never saw an al la carte section in the menu, when she offered the option for 2 tostadas I assumed there were be a deduction in the price of the 3/14.99. The server, understandably, wasn't able to make any changes. I asked to speak to the manager. A manager came, kept interrupting as I tried to explain the issue from my perspective. We were talking but not communicating. She finally took the bill and said something about taking care of it - as I noted it is very loud and words get lost in the music. She never came back to us. Went there late at night on Thursday, and the place was still busy. As soon as you walk in the music will hit you. It is very hard to have a conversation with the person next to you due to how loud the music itself is. The margarita had hands, they do NOT water it down and you can tell from the first sip. The staff is very friendly from the time you walk in. Wait staff did an adequate job of checking on me. There are numerous large monitors that display different programs. The food is good, and if you grew up anywhere near the border or Central America, you will likely appreciate their flavor and style. No, this isn't a high end restaurant. And all food costs money these days, especially seafood. It isn't a taco truck. The bathrooms were clean because I went when 100 people haven't used them. The whole place was clean and the staff were so friendly. I'm a blonde white lady and they were sweet to me just the same! So many different ceviche options that I didn't even know where possible! I had a top shelf margarita and tacos supreme carnitas when I came in by myself at 5:30pm on a Tuesday. We've been there twice after shows at Vintage Theatre. Vibe is pretty cool, super cholo, the realness is here. Late at night, it's definitely the bar crowd, ready to party. Service is sweet, especially Sra. Esmeralda, who helped us even though she wasn't our server. The food is decent -- I had one of the best sopapillas in Denver there. The micheladas are huge. The biggest problem is that the music is so loud you can't talk to anyone next to you, let alone across the table, let alone at another table. I don't know how the employees aren't suffering from terrible hearing loss and tinnitus after working there. After the first time we went, and it was so loud, we still decided to go back because we thought maybe the second time they wouldn't have karaoke and it would be more pleasant. Delicious! Authentic Mexican food. The salsa served with the chips has a little kick but is full of flavor. We had the shrimp cocktail and it was perfect. I had the medium combination plate (which there is nothimg medium about that plate) with a ground beef burrito and crispy chile relleno with beans and rice all smothered in delicious pork green chile. My husband had their crispy relleno plate and loved it. Their lemonade is freshly made. Their service is great. They were very attentive to us and were very friendly. La Morena is a trip! It's loud and joyful, with plenty of screens to catch whatever game might be going on, and beautiful people dressed to go out. The plates of food are enormous and delicious, and the micheladas look amazing - definitely trying one next time I go in. This place feels authentic, in that you won't hear any English top 40 on the radio and that you may feel silly if you order a chimichanga amidst all the sizzling fajita platters and towering ceviche chalices. If you stick around in the evening the karaoke starts up. The mic goes to the bar and to booths, with people singing their favorite Spanish ballads. The manager and security told me to pay the full bill after the waiter made references that I was a poor man who couldn't pay the extra money for his mistake. It was a cold wintery night. Traffic was bad, really bad, en route to the Vintage Theater. So bad, in fact, we missed our dinner reservation elsewhere. We arrived at the Vintage about 40 minutes ahead of curtain, and Lo, what do our eyes behold? A gorgeous neon sign guiding us to La Morena. Seizing upon a final opportunity to get something into our frazzled systems before the show started, we enter and found La Morena dead empty. A group of servers jumped to attention and seated us- we explained we need to eat fast. About 14 seconds later, everyone squealed with delight and relief when they presented the frazzled driver (yours truly) with a margarita. The chips and salsa were also served immediately and wow! Was that salsa good! We enjoyed an order of the Quesadillas, big juicy things stuffed full of chicken and cheese and topped with all the trimmings. They were delicious! We also enjoyed two orders of the barbacoa plate, tender cheek beef simmered forever in the most delicious sauce, served with rice and beans and guacamole. Everything was served in GIANT platters! In 35 minutes, we dined, had a couple margs, and made it to the play in time for curtain. Thank you La Morena! This was a save, and a truly delicious meal! read more

La Morena is a solid middle class Mexican restaurant. All their prices are similar to the almost high end Mexican joints. I order Carnitas plate with one side egg. It was a generous looking plate due to the famous trick by using large plates. My wife order very fresh Menudo, so fresh you can still smell the cow! Most people gag at the smell but not me. Fresh good homemade tortillas came with our order. They make them only on the weekends according to the menu. For the price they are not very competitive to the higher end Mexican restaurants. Lurked the happy hour here prior to a Spanish Conversation Meetup group/Karaoke event. It wasn't very happy and music was way too loud considering the 4 customers. Server didn't seem to even know about it. Felt like a super gringa while waiting. Drank 2 Modelos and by the time my South American friend arrived I was over it and we decided not to eat. Can't give a fair assessment of the food, but judging from the photos on the menu, it looked delicious.
