The sampler we shared for lunch. So much flavor.

A friend had posted about this place last year saying it was the BEST Cuban food. Knowing we were going to be in,Miami this summer, I bookmarked it. My party of four was excited to give it a try. Oh my was it amazing. Our two young adults each got the Cuban sandwich and they loved loved loved it. My partner and I decided we would share the app sampler so we could get a taste of so many different dishes . Would def make a stop there again to try more. It's such a fun place with wonderful service.

This is located in the heart of little Havana. It's on a corner of the street which makes for great people watching. It has a bunch of chairs outside with some fans blowing. They have such cute drinks! I just got pineapple juice but my friends got their coconut drink and mojito and said it was to die for! They give you these plantain chips to snack on and they are so good! It's got a sweet, salty, and crunchy chip texture to it. For an appetizer, we got a sampler which had ropa vieja, plantains, empanadas, shredded pork, and some large fried potatoes. I loved that so you get to try a little bit of everything. The ropa vieja tasted just like grandmas. They use ropa vieja as the filling in the empanadas. The fried potato's was steak fry cut style. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just how a perfect fry should taste! Everyone really liked the vaca frita! I think that's a must try! It's shredded beef marinated in this delicious citrus marinate. They fry it afterwards so it's pull apart, melt in your mount soft, with a nice crispy crunch to it. I think this is a must get dish. The desserts were delicious too! The flan was perfectly soft and creamy. The tres leches was delicious as well. This is a great place to have some good Cuban and enjoy a beautiful night out in Miami!

Food was A-okay. Not sure what the raving reviews were about. The food wasn't bad but it was also nothing spectacular. The service was okay too. My favorite thing there was the mango on my mango juice. Food was quite expensive since for a party of 3 because they add on 20% tip and a resort fee.

We really wanted some delicious Cuban food while in the Miami area. Close to our hotel was La Mulata. They have indoor and outdoor seating and since it was a beautiful night we decided to sit outside. The food was delicious. Our waiter was super helpful in recommendations of what to order (since they were out of the Cuban Sandwich!! Still upset I didn't get that!) Hospitality of the staff 10/10. The inside of the restaurant has a cute vibe as well, feeling like you are in a friends backyard with laundry hanging above, they really try to make you feel like your visiting family. Check it out if you are in the area we didn't need a reservation, but again.. they were out of the Cuban sandwich since they are open all day, so they can definitely get busy! Lentz_explore

This place is delicious in every way. The paella get the paella. It was the best dish on our table. The rest of the food was delicious but I wish we ordered an extra paella tbh. It was that good. The Lechon was nothing to laugh at. Lots of flavor packed into the dish and the pork rinds that were in it soaked up all its juices. The rice is came with was so flavorful I wish I ordered an extra side. The Scottish salmon was good but it paled in comparison to the other dishes. The mojitos were good. If I wasn't so full I was gonna order another round. This is a must go to place if you're in South Beach.

My husband came here and liked it so we tried it. And the service was horrible. Our waitress forgot about us for a while we sat inside and the staff were celebrating another birthday for another waitress which was fine but when they were done they just sat around and forgot about their guests. Our food was cold and not tastey at all. The only thing that was good was the Lychee Martini and the truffle fries were okay. The decor was nice but I don't think I'll be back.

Abuela's toston breakfast with Lechon was pretty good with a crispy base & pretty tasty toppings. Hot sauce on the side was nice; it had a tomato base. Cuban breakfast had creamy potatoes which were decent if a bit under salted. Sausage was pretty good - crisp & tasty, juicy enough & slighty spicy. Pulled pork was tasty & moist. Mango smoothie was pretty good - well blended ice & pretty good mango flavour & nicely presented too. Guava smoothie wasn't as well blended with many ice chunks & cubes but the flavour was pretty good. The paper straws disintegtated quickly though. They charge a 20% service charge but there's still an option to tip on top of that. Portions are small. Decor is nice.

Came here on the rec of a friend. Such a cute area and plenty of outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I loved the extra large margaritas, and definitely check out the empanadas for an appetizer. I had been craving a Cuban sandwich, and when I ordered the server asked if I preferred a side of regular fries or truffle fries. All of the other sandwiches on the menu indicated a side of fries, so I went ahead and ordered the regular. Everything was so delicious! Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and saw we had been charged $10 for the fries! Definitely felt icky to not be told up front that there was an up charge...and the small size of them was not worth $10. Service was fantastic, but we left a little disappointed.

They're in an excellent spot by the beach. I was not only impressed with our own dishes but also surrounding tables food. They really take dining seriously here. My only regret is not getting one of their sugar cane mojitos. We got a massive massive fried snapper and it was so meaty and so good. We sat outside so we didn't get to see the inside. We went here for breakfast, and it was a really satisfying and filling meal. The staff were super friendly, the place was clean, and the prices were reasonable. What surprised us was that the breakfast didn't come with any bread we had to order it separately. Other than that, everything was good and well-priced.

What an incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting -- dim lighting, great vibes, and plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Our server Yadira was absolutely amazing -- one of the friendliest and most genuine waiters I've ever met. She made us feel right at home and gave great recommendations. The manager even surprised us with a free flan, which was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. I ordered the Braised Flank Steak (Vaca Frita a la Campesina) -- it was unbelievably tender and full of flavor, one of the best Cuban dishes I've ever had. My wife ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon, drenched in glorious melted cheese and surrounded by a moat of crispy fries -- pure perfection. The bar has a big variety of drinks to choose from, making it a perfect spot for both dinner and cocktails. If you're in Miami or South Beach looking for authentic Cuban food, friendly service, and a relaxed, beautiful setting -- La Mulata is a must-visit!

Parking if you can find on the surrounding blocks. Indoor and outdoor seating available. We had made a reservation, no wait we went right inside. We decided to sit inside due to the heat that night. I would suggest sitting inside for the decor alone. Makes the experience that much better.The staff were very friendly. Our waiter was kind enough to take a picture of us before we sat. As busy as it was, he was on top of things the whole evening. A great experience even before ordering and getting our food. As usual, we ordered two dishes and shared. I got the seafood paella. My wife got the Ropa vieja grandma style. We started by trying the empanadas. We got one chicken and one beef. Both were delicious, but my favorite was the beef. If you are a seafood lover, there is no way you don't get the paella. It is if they went out to the Atlantic and grabbed one of everything they could find. First time for me having conch and mussels. I hope when I have in the future, they taste like this. Everything was flavored amazingly. Putting the head on shrimp was a nice touch. You can taste how sweet it is compathe other shrimp they included. The Ropa vieja grandma style was also very good. I loved the shredded beef and kept mixing it with the rice. An amazing night in Miami thanks to this restaurant. It will be my first stop next time I am back. Five stars!

I came here for a quick dinner during my vacation in Miami. It is right off of Española way and it's location adds a lot to the restaurant itself. The bright lights, background music, and outdoor seating onlooking the street create a nice atmosphere. Servers were a little bit pushy as far as recommending dishes to try. We weren't trying to go that crazy so this wasn't really needed. Our server, Jennifer, was very friendly and understanding with us, however. The food that we tried was their churrasco, homemade empanadas, avocado salad, and the kids chicken fingers. The churrasco itself was very flavorful and NOT tender. Think of like.... steak flavored chewing gum. The rice served with it was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The salad was probably the best dish ordered. The avocado was nice and ripe and paired perfectly with the thinly sliced onions and oil in the dressing. Maybe Cuban style empanadas just aren't my thing, but the La Mulata's just weren't doing it for me. The ropa vieja ones were delicious and so juicy! The garlic aioli paired with it helped to cut through the fried pasty of the empanada. The chicken one was a bit overly spiced to me, but if you like that kind of thing, I'd recommend. Overall, this is a very pretty spot with a nice ambience and staff however just fell short in a few categories to be given a full five stars. read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp. First trip to Miami wanted Cuban food. La Mulata had the highest rating. It lived up to the hype I had the pollo Asado not thinking I could eat a half chicken by myself. My wife had the Ropa Viejo. Both were excellent I ate almost the entire chicken dish. You will be pressured to write a 5 star review when the check comes and if you do, you get free shots. Take that for what its worth. Here is my true review: Food was good and service was good! Food was whatever your grandma can cook, minus 2 pts, meaning decent, but not memorable. Decent meaning it was worth going, but not worth returning. I'm always surprised that decent cooks can build a restaurant that gets 4.5 stars. I get it, this is Miami, which isn't a food town at all, where mediocre is top tier, but this place would be forgotten after a few months of opening in NYC. What is it missing? Take the beans as an example. Shouldn't beans be the primary focus on a Cuban restaurant? The beans were cooked by people who have no idea that there are 20 different types of black beans in the world (look it up, its true) and instead of choosing the one most similiar to what grows in Cuba, they just choose the cheapest one from some big wholesaler. Time makes great beans. Time. And these were rushed by an owner who thinks bulk is a way to run a business. That said, Diego was a great waiter and we wish him much success with his football career! read more

From the plentiful and fresh mint leaves in the mojito to the beautiful presentation of our Grilled Seafood Parillada for two, the decadent and plentiful dish was a five star rating by anyone's standards. It came with two sides but we added an extra side - yuca fries, Moro or Congri, and fried plantains - all very delicious compliments to the lobster, octopus, salmon, shrimp and shellfish. The management strives hard to keep the consistency to the highest degree- whether it's a lamp lit right at dusk- to the waiters and hosts smiling & cheerily attentive while wearing their Cuban themed Guayabera shirts. It's the spectacle to be experienced at this tourist trap with a heart. Lorenzo, our chatty, and well mannered waiter, handled our multiple requests with ease and a welcoming smile, even if we didn't want the various upgrades to our dinner or drinks that were ordered (note: I am not reviewing the "upselling" for which I am not a fan). The food and drinks in an outdoor parklet patio setting with Cubano music (beautiful, but volume should be a tad lower), and a hostess shaking her maracas (actual Rumba shakers!) was all well and good, if a bit Extra! But the 5-star of the show was and should always be the delicious meal. read more

Cute interior and great location but would not recommend. The octopus appetizer was very overcooked and while service was somewhat attentive it felt like the waitstaff was pressured to upsell. The food was okay but overpriced even for this location. The restaurant also offered "round of shots" for review which never reflects well on a restaurant. Will not visit again. read more

We arrived at about 4pm on New Year's Day for an early dinner. The restaurant is small, with tables both inside and out at street level. Decor was older and charming. Waitstaff were friendly and efficient. I had a seafood paella that was temperature hot and tasty. My dining companion had a Cuban sandwich that she raved about. The worst part was the theming and lack of ambiance. It felt like a seedy nightclub or raggedy adult club you have to take a shower after leaving. I had to apologize to wife for such a poor experience. Bad husband! Stopped by this spot near Española Way and had a great experience! The location is perfect, and the outdoor seating made it even better. It was so fun to people-watch while enjoying the nice ambiance. The service was top-notch--friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The menu had a fantastic selection of food, but I couldn't resist trying the Cubano sandwich. It was good--flavorful and satisfying, though I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had. This restaurant is a complete rip-off. The food was incredibly basic, nothing special, and yet the prices were astronomical. To add insult to injury, the waitress kept bringing us bottles of water we never requested, each costing a shocking $10! It felt like a deliberate attempt to inflate the bill. Furthermore, the "boss lady" who constantly walks around has an intimidating presence and comes across as incredibly rude. Save yourself the disappointment and your wallet. We had a great experience at La Mulata! The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and they had no problem accommodating our party of six. I had 55 people in attendance and the restaurant was the perfect venue. it was colorful and fun atmosphere with authentic food. the staff was so accommodating and honored all my little and big requests. We have an absolutely incredible meal at this restaurant! On a Saturday night, we were fortunate to get seated right away. Emily, our waitress, was kind and extremely accommodating! We had the paella and a seafood parillada for two as a family. We had just enough food for the three of us, and everything was prepared to perfection!
