I always appreciate a manicurist who's a perfectionist and Lily fit that to a T. Got a meticulous mani and pedi and she was cheerful and funny while taking care of me but also gave me space to be quiet and just rest. My cuticles are probably in the best shape they've ever been thanks to very careful and thorough attention. Polish was also put on with great care and drying process was not rushed. If I lived in DC this would be my regular place and I would always book her. read more

After many years of drawing on my eyebrows with a pencil, I decided to look for a reputable permanent make-up artist to tatoo my eyebrows for me. I came upon La-Or and decided to give her a call. I am now extremely happy that I did. I am soooo happy with my new eyebrows and everyone tells me how natural they look. La-Or is very personable and really cares about the needs and wishes of her clients. Her salon is very clean and she is maticulous. The entire process took less than one hour and was painless for the most part....a couple of pinches in the beginning but that was all. I would recommend her to anyone, and if I had to I would do it all over again. I am very pleased with the results. The price is right and actually on the cheaper side as compared to other places I called. read more

I won't be back! Expensive. The pedicure was great by the technician, BUT then I decided to have the SNS nails done and was transferred over to another technician. It took forever and it was just a clumpy job. They still charged me the full amount after I complained. I had to leave, I just couldn't stay any longer. I've had SNS nails done at 2 other salons that were much better and did not take as long. I don't recommend. They said I could come back for them to fix it, but NOPE, I can't waste that much more time. I'm now stuck with a horrible expensive nail job. read more

Arlington abounds with nail salons. Most try to maintain some sort of competitiveness. If nail salons were coffee shops, my regular spots are akin to a Starbucks: offering a decent selection of coffee drinks, beverages, and food items in an atmosphere conducive to either a bit of solitude or catching up with a close friend. La-Or, by contrast, is equivalent to a sad coffee shop in a drab office building. Yes, you will get a competent manicure/pedicure but that is about it. Tucked in a alley-way in the Crystal Underground, La-Or felt cramped and lacking in atmosphere. Yes, my toenails are a bit gnarly which is why I go to a salon for a pedicure. At other salons, my toenails are never an issue. But here, apparently, they had never seen the likes of mine before. I was also less impressed when one nail tech proceeded to do my manicure as I sat in the pedicure chair. I like having my nails done while I sit at the table even if I'm not getting polish. I also missed not getting my hands dipped in paraffin. I am also used to being offered some sort of drink: water, tea, coffee, and even wine. I do not recall being offered anything. I only went to La-Or because a close female friend goes there. She may not go there anymore as the salon manager got a bit "bitchy" with her about the condition of my toenails.The manager even told my friend that I need to come in more often or they will charge me more next time. DO NOT GO HERE!! La-Or has a bad attitude and the place is unprofessional. I went to get my eyebrow waxed and get a pedicure today. I was in a good mood and thought I might even add some extra services if they had time. When I got there, the lady sitting at the front desk (the owner La-Or) had a nasty attitude (we are talking Cruella Deville personality). I am not saying you need to be friendly, but polite would be enough for me. I got my eye brow waxing done first. La-Or, having never said anything to me except go to the room, ended up being the lady who was going to do my eyebrows. In the waxing room, the towel where I put my head was obviously dirty and made me question sanitation. Additionally, other employees kept coming and going in the room while I was there. (It made me glad I wasn't there for a bikini wax). When it came to the actual eye brow waxing, she didn't ask me what I wanted; she just grabbed my head, twisted it, and started putting wax on. While the wax was on, she took three phone calls in the room. She even was arguing during one of these. Additionally, she had gotten wax on her hand, but never bothered to wash it off. She put her waxy hand on my head of hair, getting wax all over my hair. I politely pointed out that I thought she had gotten wax in my hair, but she still didn't wash her hands. Instead, she again put her hand on my head. When she finished, she never even bothered showing me what my eyebrows looked like, or asking me if I liked them. When I finally saw them in a mirror on my way out, I noticed they were very uneven. I don't know what happened between the 2007 review I read on yelp and 2009, but this was horrible unfriendly, unprofessional service. Sure it was cheap, but not worth it since I have uneven eyebrows and and wax in my hair. Needless to say, I cancelled the pedicure. To put this into context, I do not complain much. I am actually a very optimistic person. I even kept trying to justify everything wrong about this experience, until I had all the wax in my hair. However, there is no justification for such bad customer service in an industry designed to make people relaxed and feel good about themselves. read more

I definitely recommend the manicure and pedicure. Do NOT get an eyebrow wax here. I went back twice and same dirty towel.. Although it was covered up with paper. Also, some of my skin was either burned or torn on Saturday. read more

I had my eyebrows retouched here and omg! Do not go to this place for permanent makeup! This woman doesn't have a clue what she is doing!!! My eyebrows are so uneven in color and shape. I have been going to La-Or in Crystal City for about two years and I have never had anything other than an exceptionally relaxing experience there. Gina does my nails and Stephanie does my pedi and they are both very professional, very friendly, and very skilled. I use to get my nail done at Happy Nails in Clinton, Maryland and was always disappointed with the service. I looked long a hard for a place were I could get my nails done - pain free - and reasonably priced. La-Or has provided that service, consistently and I look forward to each visit. The place and very clean and sanitized. I was very pleased with the pedi tools being sanitized and a new package of pedi-tools are used on each client. In almost two years, I have never had a problem with nail infections, cuticle cutting, or anything of that nature. I have had other technicians do my pedicures and have been pleased with their work as well. I very satisfied with the service I receive at La-Or in Crystal City and plan to be a customer there for many years to come. read more

All the tools that they use for manicures and pedicures are sanitized, they also use one time nail buffers, one time nail files and new plastic liners inside of the pedicure tubs. This makes nail services extremely sanitary and gives me a peace of mind as a customer. Pedicure chairs are very comfortable and you can enjoy back massage while professional well trained technician provide you with spa relaxing pedicure. Went here for an eyebrow waxing. It was done on a chair (not the reclining chair where you can tilt your head back, like a normal chair). Technician got wax on my eyelid and it was WAXED OFF. Pretty sure I'm now going to have hair growing out of my eyelid. Left- and there was wax in my hair. The woman was nice and I admit that the end results are good but the experience was horrible. Why would I pay $12 for an eyebrow waxing on a chair, only to end up with wax falling close to my eye and leaving with wax in my hair? I wish that it was done on the waxing table from the beginning because I'm sure this only happened since the angle was off. When the table was clear I asked if I could move there- that experience was better. But still- why would you tell someone to sit there when you're not able to do it properly? That never should have been an option. Two stars because my friend is a regular and her eyebrows are perfection and the mani/pedis are apparently great. I just had a horrible experience. read more

I called the owner of La-Or and she responded right away and got me an appointment right away for a facial on a Saturday. I have been to other estheticians in the area, including Andre Chreky and others. I find La-Or's services just as good or better. The reasons are: She uses really good products AND she does a fantastic massage on your face to improve circulation. The other fantastic side is it's cheap: you can't beat $50 for an hour in this town. Be prepared for some downsides: she answers the phone and door during your appointment. I'm personally fine with that as long as I get a high quality, affordable facial. She got rid of the blackheads & whiteheads and intensively moisturized my skin. I will definitely go back! read more

Right now I have to say I am very unhappy... La or is very persuasive and I was excited that I believed and trusted her especially when she kept telling me that she has had at least 18yrs experience... And even though I work in nursing she even managed to convince me that no I'm not allergic to latex but the powder... I was an idiot for that one! I was so traumatically swollen for at least a week but it lessened a bit but did not fully got over the swelling til about two weeks and a couple days... When called her and told her that I noticed I have a lot of discoloration and parts missing she told me I have to wait for 4weeks before she can touch me up and to wait cuz the color might come back... Well not a chance it'll be a month on the 4th and I can't leave the house without filling it in with an eyebrow pencil with totally ruined the purpose of spending $200 dollars to never have to do so again. She even convince me to believing that because she takes cash only that allows her to charge less! Very convinient when u can't track her back with the charges thank goodness I have voicemail messages of her checking up on me and my eyebrows. I later found out that was bs cuz I now go to a beauty salon who only charges $170 and takes credit card for the same service but actually offers and guarantees hair simu strokes which la or advertised yet acted like she didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for it. Anyways I called her a couple of times to try to schedule a touch up but was told to call back cuz she's out of the country... I mentioned I wanted my money back and the call was suddenly cut short.... I'm truly hoping I will get my money back cuz I got this as a birthday present from my husband and had to spend my bday with a swollen upper face and looking like I let my 1yr old draw my eyebrows with a thick permanent marker not only is it now multi colored and and missing parts it is also uneven meaning I have two different crooked eyebrows.. I am now sporting very thick bangs. If I ever will consider suing for not unfair service and false advertising if I don't get my money back I'm definitely considering suing cuz no one else should have this done to them... I wanted eyebrows cuz mine never grew back after chemotherapy and drawing them on was a pain and it's depressing having to always worry about if I'm suddenly only sporting Half an eyebrow so I turned to tattoo or permanent makeup especially after the hair simulation advertisement I so excited... Don't waste your time or money -- they use strip wax for brazilian waxes and it HURTS! she said "nobody like hard wax so we went back to strip wax" ...uumm, not a good idea. As for nails, I paid $28 for a gel french manicure that she said would "last at least 2 weeks" ...it was chipped, cracked, peeling the next day. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!! DO NOT GET YOUR EYEBROWS DONE BY LA-OR! She did permanent eyebrows over a year ago and I ended up having to go to Shirley at Permanent Makeup in McClean, VA to have them corrected, and I'm still working with Shirley to correct them. Thankfully they are getting corrected. The first warning bell is that La-Or gave me shots on my eyebrows. Painful? YES. Also I believe it is illegal in the state of Virginia. I also do not believe she was sterile as she kept my face covered. The best advice is don't go there. read more

I recently got permanent makeup on my eyebrows, and I am so satisfied with it. La-Or (Lynn) was very patient and super sweet. She has been doing this for over 22 years and it clearly shows. Her spa (Veera Spa) is clean and decorated nicely. Make sure you have an idea of the shape you want and what will frame your face nicely because she doesn't measure. She just sketches like a true artist. So worth every penny...especially since she has the most cost effective price in the DMV area. I feel like a new woman. :) read more

I regularly get manicures and pedicures at LaOr, and have always been very pleased. For many years before going to LaOr, I got acrylics, but Gina, the owner of the shop, suggested a couple of years ago that I try gels, and I have been very happy with them since that time. She is the owner of the shop and she claimed she has been in the business for 18yrs of so then she's been messing up people eyebrows for that long. Her equipment is very OLD and she has no clue what's doing and she charges $200.00. If y ou ge tthem done and they look okayit was by a freak accident. She takes the money under the table cash only for the permanent make up. Beware she scars and these scars are NOT regular scaring like other tattoos these are permanent.
