My bby and I always wanted to see what's the hype about La piñata. We can to this little hole in the wall one lol. So cute and adorable, it's to small. They do not serve hard alcohol like the other places just beer. We got our food and it was pretty good. I definitely loved the service at this restaurant and the food was hitting. I was impressed and now I'm curious about the other locations and definitely will try them out!

Super Burrito Bean & Cheese Burrito

Pretty good food, nice staff, and exciting colorful decor in the restaurant! I got the super bean and cheese burrito and I found it to be quite tasty. The sour cream and guacamole came on the side which I appreciated, I could choose how much I wanted to put on the burrito. They gave our party of 7 two water pitchers which was really nice, it allowed us to always have water!

Good was good but not as good as it used to be. It wasn't terrible though! Customer service was great. Place was nice.

Dinner order chicken quesadillas (without the "extras"). Looks good though.
Eileen S.

Been craving their quesadillas. Ordered extra rice, beans, and cheese (extra fees). But that don't look like extra anything. Ugh. Looks like a regular order. Oh well. Now I know. Just order a separate side order instead of "extra".

Must have salsa. Spicy but delicious.

This location is one of my favorite spots for chips and salsa. The green sauce and chips are always amazing, and I'll definitely keep coming back for those, once you start eating it you can't stop that's how delicious it is. The chicken burrito was good, and everyone else at the table really enjoyed their enchiladas and tacos. However, the tortilla soup was a big disappointment. It had large carrots and other vegetables that don't belong in tortilla soup, very little broth, and didn't resemble tortilla soup at all. I'd highly recommend skipping the soup, but everything else was great as usual.

Pozole, menudo, agua fresca de jamaica

First time here, we came because there was menudo on the menu and I ordered a pozole. I really enjoyed the pozole flavor, la carne y los condimentos. Complimentary chips and salsa is always the best- the salsa was a nice smoky salsa roja, I'd totally buy if it they sold it. Great service and fresh food overall. Loved the establishment, very decorative and cute even when it was a rainy day in Hayward. Vibrant energy. We sat right by the window overlooking the street so great lighting!

Super beef burrito with dollops of sour cream and guacamole!

Convenient location, colorful exterior and interior, very friendly and accommodating staff. We had a super burrito and half order chili relleno meal. SO delicious and filling with huge portions! Crunchy fresh tortilla chips and excellent salsa started our feast. Great place! Happy that they're still around!

Was bummed there wasn't a full bar but had some beer type my friend said was a Michelada. It was good, I usually don't enjoy spicy but to me it was a bit spicy and I still liked it. Most people wouldn't think what I thought that it was spicy but I'll say you would definitely need to try it if you haven't yet. I believe this is the first location. I've been to the San Leandro one which is a lot bigger with more bar drinks to offer. I always need steak fries when I'm in the Bay so I had to get it. Both me and my friend weren't able to finish our food so we put them in to go boxes for the next day. I parked on the street but there is a parking lot for guest behind the restaurant. For a small location it's pretty colorful and inviting. Their bathroom was clean so definitely a good sign eating here because they can keep the place clean. I would recommend this place as a cute hangout for a small group of 4 food portions seems big so I'd share but you would probably want the left overs to yourself later anyways.

This is pur GO TO mexican restaurant in hayward! The food is always always on point! The service is great and fast. Its small and quaint and i love the vibe. Everything feels very authentic there. The restaurant is a little bit small so there is a wait sometimes but thats because its so good. With the wait i promise.

Beverages Menu [on December 3, 2023]

4.5 stars, but since we can give only full star ratings, boosting to 5 because of the overall experience. Lunched at La Piñata in Hayward with Sching and Roselene on Sunday, December 3, 2023. I had visited a different La Piñata location in either Oakland or San Leandro many years ago, but this was my first visit to the Hayward locale. Neither Sching nor Roselene had been here before, either. Glad we chose to go here, we had a wonderful time. The vibrantly coloured, almost fluorescent venue is very eye catching and has a private lot for parking. From the outside, the restaurant looks super tiny, but once you enter, the building looks more spacious than it initially appears. Inside, the pink and yellow colours continue to burst throughout the dining room with hues of purples, blues, oranges and many more popping through to the canvases of walls, wooden chairs and booths. The quaint eatery's décor welcomes guests with a festive vibe full of murals and Mexican artwork. I especially loved the blue sky and clouds painted on the ceiling as well as the Frida Kahlo wall which we sat next to. We arrived around 12:30 PM sans reservations, but were seated immediately. Right away, we were served complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfectly golden and crispy and the salsa had a good kick of spice. Below are items that we ordered: Horchata - Nice and creamy with no chalky residue at the bottom of the drink. A winner of beverages. SUPER FAMOSO BURRITO (CARNITAS) - This was HUGE like a mini log. Sching said that it "was pretty good." I believe him because it looked yummy. It's amazing that he was able to finish such a gigantic burrito, must have been too delicious to stop eating. #9 TWO ITEMS combination of 1 Flauta (shredded beef) & 1 Enchilada Verde (chicken) - I replaced the Burrito with an Enchilada. The Flauta had a nice crisp, but I did need to squeeze lime on the guacamole which also could have used some onion and chile. The Enchilada was good, but I wished that it was topped with melted cheese. Overall, I was happy with my plate and enjoyed it very much. a la carte CRISPY TACO (chicken, 2) - Sounded delectable to eat when I heard the crisp as Roselene bit into one. I tried some of the chicken and found it a little on the dry side. a la carte TACO DE CAMARON (2) - Roselene seemed to like these tacos. Service was quick, friendly, and accommodating. Prices were reasonable as well. La Piñata in Hayward is a very cute place that serves solid good eats. The three of us would gladly return. If they accept parties, this would be an excellent spot for a small fiesta.

It's been a good 20 years since I've been to this location (original!) as its small and located in an 'okay' area. This La Pinata is kind of a hole-in-the-wall...or more like a "cantina shack" as its a cute, brightly-colored, stand-alone tiny spot on the corner. I love their Famosa Burrito with shredded beef...pure comfort food with nicely seasoned beef, beans, rice, cheese, enchilada sauce (smothering this burrito) and topped with shredded lettuce and cotija cheese. This burrito is gi-normous (and $14!) and sure, one can eat in one sitting but I either share or eat over 2-3 days with some tortilla chips! its that big! Their chips are freshly made and yummy but their salsa isn't my fave...just a preference as I have my fave salsa located at a spot on C Street in Downtown Hayward. I've been to their other locations over the years. primarily San Leandro as it has more spacing for comfortable dining. La Piñata Hayward is best for take out unless you dine during off hours...about 5 tables inside with some patio seating out front. Private parking lot in the back and minimal street parking available. No mixed drinks at this location.

We were brought fresh tortilla chips to start, which were great, along with a Lazy Susan-style setup of salsas and toppings. Unfortunately, this was a bit of a miss for me--there were raw onions, raw jalapeños, a green salsa, and more of a plain red hot sauce rather than a true salsa. I would have preferred something more traditional like a good pico de gallo or a more balanced house salsa. Ordered a bottle of Dos Equis, which at $7 felt a bit steep. Most entrées were priced between $17-$25, which is pretty standard. I had the carnitas and they were excellent--really flavorful and well-prepared. I also tried a bite of the chile relleno, which was solid as well. Overall, the food was good and the service was strong. That said, it's a bit out of the way for me, and while I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

We arrived around 4:30 on a Sunday and were seated in the bar area. After waiting 10-15 minutes with no water, chips, or salsa, we still had no idea who was supposed to be serving us. The bartenders never acknowledged us, and nobody stopped by to even say, "We'll be right with you" or thank us for our patience. Eventually, someone came over and asked if we were ready to order. Our food arrived almost right away, but my fiancé realized his added carne asada was missing. The waiter didn't bring it out until he was nearly finished with his meal because he never rang it in.. I ordered the combination fajitas, and they were just okay. The entire time, there was a woman walking around in a blazer who appeared to be a manager, but she seemed more focused on training the bartender than checking on guests. Had she been paying attention, she would have clearly seen how frustrated we were. When our server finally brought the check, we noticed we had been charged twice for the chilaquiles, plus separately for the carne asada that didn't even arrive with the meal. After another 5 minutes, I flagged down who I believe was the manager to fix the bill. She corrected it and brought it back, but then we were left waiting another 5-10 minutes for our server to actually process the payment. The waiter never even thanked us before we left. Overall, the experience was incredibly disappointing, especially considering how much we enjoyed this place in the past. Neither of us plans to return.
