The personal-size wood oven pizzas are wonderful and actually big enough for 2 people. I really appreciate having the option of whole wheat crust. I'm also a big fan of the soups & the salads (esspecially with the add-on grilled shrimp, which are huge). The panini with grilled chicken, brocolli rabe and mozzarella is a garlicky delight. My spouse is addicted to the pasta with Bolognese sauce & homemade ricotta. Really, the food is great and the service is always just fine. Two people can eat like kings for $35.00, including 1 beer each. It's a very, very good value. Drawbacks? Well, the place is clearly the number one "date night" destination for Merrick teenagers. They tend to be pretty loud and obnoxious and mannerless. Also, in the winter, depending on where you are seated, expect to be hit with a blast of freezing air every time the front door opens, which is often. Very good consistent Italian restaurant. Their pizza is the best in the area. We have been eating there since it opened in Merrick and everything is well prepared and fresh. All their pizzas can be be bought by the slice and they do not let it sit there for hours until it is sold as they constantly will dispose of pizza staying there too long. They do a very large take out business and some of my family's favorites are the chicken roll (like a rolled chicken parmigiana) served with sauce on the side and the panini's. For the kids the pizza is excellent and an order of chicken fingers will feed two kids. The serving staff is generally very attentive. read more

I had my first taste of La Piazza catered at a friends party. It was so good that I decided to go there for dinner with a group of friends. Oh boy, should have just lived with the fond memories of how good the food was. So we ordered meatballs and spaghetti, meat lasagna, pappardelle with bolognese, plain slice, chicken parm and I forgot what Bob ordered, oh I ordered the pecan salad. Anyway, the pecan salad was as good as I remembered it, though others at the table wasn't impressed. The food arrived.....finally, and......the meatballs where tough, the spaghetti was watery! Like they where running low on sauce and they added water to make it last watery! The chicken parm was a thumbs up, my pappardelle with bolognese *sigh* was disappointing. Bland. The lasagna was O.K. As was the plain slice. Perhaps they should stick to catering and pizza slices. Unfortunately, La Piazza has lost a longtime customer & Merrick resident. I called to place my order for Mother's Day on Thursday and was told to call an hour before we wanted it on Mother's Day. Today I called to place my order and was told no deliveries after 4pm. I explained the employee's miscommunication but I was willing to pick up my order regardless. I was told to pick it up in 45 minutes. We arrived in 50 minutes and called the pick up number. The person who answered the phone verified our order and asked what kind of car we were in. After 30 minutes of waiting in the car, I went in to see if maybe they forgot we called and were there to pick up. Once I got to the counter, the manager said, "What did you call 10 minutes ago? 20 minutes ago?" I explained that I placed my order an hour ago and was waiting in the car over 30 minutes. He rudely said to me, "Do you have kitchen food? Then it's going to be another hour an a half." I walked out and will never return. If he would have apologized and told me what time to come back, La Piazza would have kept me as a customer. I understand these are unprecedented times during a pandemic and they are conducting business in a way that they have never done before. However, being rude to customers is NEVER acceptable. read more

I really like La Piazza. They have a few locations but I always try the Merrick one because it's close to my house. There's a wait for a table, especially on weekends, but it's definitely worth it, and we get to-go on weekends when we don't want to wait for a table. The order is never messed up and it always comes out of the bag still hot and really good. The food is normally very very good, but every now and then you have a stinker of a meal, but those are few and far between. They're also very good with parties. inhospitable for gluten-free!!! never felt compelled to write a review, but this occasion the hospitality was so poor I just have to review it. please note that one member of the party eats gluten free. First off, our wait staff replied to our greeting of "hi, how are you?" started off by telling us they were having a bad day because they partied a little too hard the night before and got called into work at 9 AM. now getting back to one of the diners that was gluten-free. They called the day before to confirm that there were gluten-free options. When we proceeded to order off of the pick-a-pair lunch menu, they were told that they could not get gluten-free pasta by the wait staff. we were provided some excuse about the portions being for a whole serving and the side dishes are only a partial serving so the two were not compatible with serving gluten-free pasta. I was so excited to see zucchini linguini on the menu! I have been making that stuff home made for a while now. I was ecstatic when I saw that I can have it at a restaurant! I attended an event there over the weekend and while the room we were in was very nice, I was less than impressed with the service and food. We requested ice to put in our waters and to cool the wine that was in buckets ( though not ones that had enough ice in them to keep the white wine palatable) we were provided with one wine goblet sized glass of ice ( we had to corral another server to bring more ice). I was given a cold reception when the server came around before dessert to see who wanted coffee. I sensed that she was not that interested in providing cups for the coffee that was coming and wanted to catch her before she turned away leaving several of us in need of the cups. I asked twice and then she responded rudely to me that I would get a cup. The house salad was so so, but was swimming in dressing, which made it difficult to eat. The entrees, which were served in a buffet-style were mediocre. For an Italian restaurant, I would have expected better flavors. I've ordered take out twice from La Piazza to bring over to my daughter's home and she, who lives near the restaurant, has served food from the restaurant. Each meal was underwhelming, unmemorable and expensive. The cherry tomatoes in the salads were well beyond their expiration date, the shrimp for the caesar salad were few and smaller than prawns, the salad dressing was bland, the chicken parm and meatball parm were inedible, the calzone was puny and tasteless. However, the bottled sodas were spot on good. There's got to be a better Italian restaurant in the greater Merrick area. I gave the restaurant two stars: one for the architecture of the building and one because they throw in really good extra bread. read more

The first thing that comes to mind regarding La Piazza is that the atmosphere is very nice and clean. This establishment is very busy and the pizza is good but not great. The staff is knowledgeable but not very accommodating. I have been refused hot sauce at the table even though it is used in the Buffalo Chicken Slice/Salad. The explanation was that the owner said it was too expensive! Then, when the bill came they obviously charged me for my soda re-fill. La Piazza obviously will never understand that the customer comes first. Obviously they only care about the bottom line and not the customer's experience. This place was recommended to me by someone who has lived in the area for quite some time. For starters, I was disappointed by the pizza, which was the main reason I went there. I ordered a slice of cheese before ordering my Caesar salad and they brought out a very small slice and had the nerve to charge $3.60. I also ordered an iced tea and noticed that no one came to offer a refill for quite some time. When the waitress finally came over and I asked her for a refill, she failed to mention that they don't offer free refills (the usual brewed unsweetened tea, not a speciality tea). I ended up getting a total of three ice teas and it cost me close to seven bucks. When I asked the waitress about the refills after I get the bill she said sorry we don't do free refills and walked away abruptly as I was trying to suggest that you should let customers know there are no free refills before you bring another glass. The Caesar salad was OK, not great and I considered it to be overpriced as well. In summary the service was not that great and the food was definitely overpriced and the pizza is definitely not The best pizza even in the area. Needless to say I will never go back again read more

Just recently went there, yes the place looks nice, but there was a ROACH crawling around the garlic knots area, if there is one that means there are plenty!! Plus we were told our name would be called once the food is ready, apparently the food was ready for 15 mins and put on top on the pizza oven. Finally someone asked us what we were waiting for. We told them and it took the guy to help out 5 more people before he picked ours off the oven. I've never had bad eggplant parm, this one was disgusting. Never ordering from here again.
