6 month update: if I had to distill this place down to a word it would be consistency. They always deliver the same great customer service, the same clean and inviting dining room, and the same amazing fresh pizza. They have such a huge menu with so much to try and explore from sandwiches to wings to pasta dishes and even home made desserts, but the pizza is a staple and some of best NY and Detroit style I've ever had anywhere. Let alone in Illinois. I come here at least 2x a week and I'm always left more than satisfied. It's no wonder they've been voted the best in the area for almost a decade now. DO NOT eat here. I have worked here in the past, and have interacted will all the other employees there, every worker gets paid absolute minimum. No matter how long you work their or how experienced you are or what age you are they pay there employees as low as they POSSIBLY can, if your under 18 they will pay you $13 a hour and if you are above 18 they will pay you $15, plus they will purposely not give you over 40 hours a week (almost no one ever gets close to that) so that they can keep on paying their employees a unlivable/unusable amount. If your goal is to get over 20 hours a week this is the last place you want to work since most employees get about 15 hours a week. They also don't uphold LEGALLY REQUIRED benefits such as paid leave UNDER ILLINOIS LAW ( 820 ILCS 192/15 -- Paid Leave for All Workers Act, Section 15 ), and also they don't give the required breaks for a 7.5 hour+ shift "if your lucky enough to even get" which is ONLY 20 minutes for a 7.5 hour shift UNDER ILLINOIS LAW ( 820 ILCS 140/3 ). And this is why the staff is mostly high-school students and why there is such a high number of complaints. And as many people have found out already... most of the review are fake or close friends of the owner/manager. If this restaurant doesn't start upholding Illinois Law there may be legal actions taken, which I know a lot of people would love to be a witnesses and evidence to this as I am still in touch with workers here. read more

We love this place. I'm a lover of NY style pizza. It's hard to find if you aren't in NYC. This place gets soooooooo close to being just like it. We have ordered a billion times from La Pizza VIa. We will continue to order as long as we are nearby!! ALSO - we ALWAYS order more for the next day. If you are reheating the NY style, I recommend 425º for 8 minutes (keep an eye on it. Ordered a large cheese pizza with vodka sauce. I don't know what I received, but when I went out and told the driver that he had the wrong pizza, he got in the car and drove away and when I called the pizza place the manager a.k.a. owner was extremely rude and condescending. I would never order from them and by the way, the pizza was not well done crispy. The pizza did not have extra cheese and it was cold. So on the one hand the overall taste of the pizza (we tried to type) The Chicago, The Authentic Italian both had excellent flavor profiles and terrific crispy crust. Had high hopes since there are not many New York options around however the pizza is terrible. Absolutely zero crunch to the pizza (even ordered it well done), it was way too chewy and really sloppy. Couldn't even get a New York fold with it because there was zero integrity to the crust. Was hard to focus in on the taste of the cheese and sauce because the taste of the dough was so overwhelming bad. The sausage looks (& tasted) like the pre cooked bagged / balled up sausage you get from food distributors (gross). Meatballs were overwhelming loaded with garlic. Ended up tossing everything and ordered dinner from another restaurant. It's impossible to have a good pizza with a bad dough, think you need to revisit your New York dough recipe. Who knew that a short twenty minute drive would get us a Detroit style pizza? The high rating and rave reviews made us drive right over and pick up a to go order. Large Detroit style pan pizza with cheese and pepperoni = $18; cut into 8 squares. To look at a Detroit style pizza you think of Little Caesar's. But this isn't fast food pizza. This is the real deal. No greasy, cheap ingredients here. La Pizza Via starts off with a focaccia crust, cheese that melted over the edges and caramelized, chunky acidic tomato sauce, and pepperoni (or your choice of any toppings that cost extra). This pizza is very filling and delicious. We called in our order for pick up. Were told it would be ready in 25-30 minutes. Sure enough our pizza was ready when we arrived. Small dining room to the side through a open doorway with a few tables. So this is more than just a carry out location. According to other reviews on Yelp, La Pizza Via also serves NY style and a thin crust pizza as well as Stromboli. We are definitely coming back to try their other offerings. read more

I really wanted to love this place! The reviews were quite compelling and the nod from the Washington Post was impressive. Well that's where the excitement ended. We ordered the Detroit style tonight. We went with plain cheese (we feel it's a good test for new pizza places) and unfortunately I have to say we were quite disappointed. The pizza looked good and the sauce on top had a nice fresh taste. Sadly, it severely lacked cheese and I mean severely!There wasn't even enough to even enjoy the traditional crispy sides. Where else can you go that offers nearly every regional type of pizza from across the country??? They have NY/New Haven thin crust, Pan pizza with a thicker crust, baked in a square. Of course Chicago's favorite, cracker thin, cut in squares (many people call it "tavern style)." And what I went for, "Detroit style" which is a square pie, a focaccia like crust, caramelized edges, thick but very airy, cheese and toppings over that, then a few ladles of tomato sauce across the top. I find fault with none of it. It's a hearty, thick tomato sauce from one of the country's premier suppliers to pizzerias. Hand pulled chunks of Italian sausage, flavorful, great texture. Really nice pepperoni, no cupping or charring, and a great cheese blend. (If you want to win me over forever, add thick sliced "Sicilian" (marinated, herbed) green olives!) The shop has an order at the counter arrangement, but an attached dining room. Pastas, calzones, stuffed breads, sandwiches and snacks fill out the menu. Daily specials. Daily slices. It's gonna cost you less than Chicago's regional chains, by 15-20% in my experience. The Detroit takes about 15 minutes in the oven. They are open seven days and deliver using some of the third party services. If you're from Detroit, this will more than satisfy your cravings, and you won't have to go home and suffer through your relatives company just to get a slice. Great product. Nice people. Ordered last week after finding them as a nearby delivery option I'd never... opted for. Between the reviews and the menu/pictures, expectations were pretty high. And LPV didn't disappoint. I went away from the norm, ordering a split large Detroit style pizza, and a split large New Haven pie-cut pizza. The New Haven, stacked with pepperoni and other auxiliary porks was a touch greasy (my shirt made it out mostly unscathed from hauling the box inside), but the flavor was top-notch. The Detroit style, like a Chicago deep dish, is just something incomparable and almost incongruous to "pizza." It's a different thing you decide you're in the mood for, then you get it. The spicy meatball was good. The buffalo chicken was excellent. For a fairly sizable order (those two pizzas, boneless and reg. wings, meatball garlic knot sliders, and cinnamon knots), it was delivered in under an hour, which was good because their website scared me by saying 90 minutes est. wait time (that was after closing, and I didn't want to be putting some delivery driver and kitchen staffers into after hours work). My one downside was the cinnamon knots. They won me over just before I placed my order with the "wouldn't you like to add...?" So I did. Not enough cinnamon or sugar, unfortunately. Luckily, there is plenty more on the menu, so we'll try our luck again, I'm sure. read more

This used to be my favorite pizza place in the area. However, my most recent order was unsatisfactory. The large Chicago cracker crust was overcooked. The bottom was brown rather than a more golden color, like the other cracker crust in my order. I called, per the request on the box, and was offered a discount on my next order ('ask for Ben'--does Ben work all the time, every day??), then a remake ('give it to the neighbors'--seriously??). Timing didn't allow a redelivery, so we are stuck with a substandard pizza and not the customer service I was accustomed to from this location. read more

They allow you to do 2, half orders of any of their pizzas for one costs which is great when you have picky eaters at home. So we've ordered half cheese for the kids and whatever speciality pizza we want to try and it's a win win for all. The pizza is good. Not the best I've had, but it's good. And if you're looking for a good, inexpensive dinner at the beginning of the week, they offer a $5 off large pizza Monday- Wednesday. For $11 and some change for a cheese pizza- it's a no brainer. The garlic knots sounds amazing, one day I'll bite the bullet and try them. Also, though I haven't had their brownies, they're huge and for $3 I don't think you can go wrong (unless they're gross, but they're brownies- how can one go wrong?). We will now be going to Fox River Grove and La Pizza Via (outside of the hour each way drive to Fiamme in Naperville). The pick up was very simple and easy in the current COVID world. My wife got the NY Style Margherita and I got the Gluten Free East Coast Combo no green pepper or olives. Simply put - outstanding for both pizzas. This place is the punk rock of pizza, bunked up in a clearly former little Cesar's location, serves up absolutely fantastic food. I didn't say pizza there for a reason, because all their food is phenomenal granted I havnt tried everything but I have tried everything that matters (to me). Detroit style is their diamond in my eyes, meatball sliders GET THEM. They made brownies once and it was amazing but they don't have them all the time. Their menu is sizeable enough to gather a full course meal for home however dining in gives next to zero appeal as you would be better entertained at home but to go they got you. Customer service is top tier, they have like people... that like..... engage in conversation with you..... like willingly....... Weird I know but try it out you might realize there's something missing in the food business around us that you can find in an old "PIZZA PIZZA" joint nestled inbetween a 24hour gym that borderline make me feel guilty coming here as if I low key feel I need to take the red pill (gym) as I walk towards the blue pill (pizza) instead and a sushi place..... meh not my jam. Drinks options are mediocre at best, make a pit stop elsewhere unless canned soda fits the bill. The food here can take care of a fam of kids or a take home of sophisticated options to feed the in-laws. We're new to the immediate area and trying out various restaurants. The reviews raving about the pizza made this one of the first places we ordered from. Yet, I'm sad to say, both times we've had dinner delivered we've been disappointed. Other than the BBQ Chicken pizza and the pinwheels... Ordered Detroit style twice; no reason to do it again. The side of meatballs was ordinary, cold and not appetizing to look at. The arugula topped pizza was bland. Nearly tasteless. Look, we love local businesses; especially restaurants family's take pride in, so maybe what we'll do is stop in some time. Maybe then we'd have a similar experience as other who have left stellar reviews. Which is why I'm giving this a 3-star "OK" rather than a 2-star "Could've been better." Stopped in for lunch while out of the office for a meeting. I had 2 slices of pepperoni pizza with a drink for under $6. The pizza slices were big New York style. Crust was thin and crispy. They also offer Detroit style deeper dish and Chicago tavern styles. They have a small dine-in space that seats about 20. They also offer carry out and delivery and Uber Eats. I think I finally found a pizza place in the Barrington area with above average pizza; way above. I tried their NY/New Haven Thin Crust Chicago Combo (sausage, red onion, green pepper and mushroom). The crust was crunchy and the pizza was a bit floppy...not my favorite, but expected with NY style. Sauce is excellent and the toppings were tasty and fresh. The online ordering is good, not great. I suggest putting a description (maybe with pictures) next to each dough/crust style. The names and descriptions in the menu don't match the ordering site so it's a bit confusing. Also, always a good idea to put the measurements and/or servings next to the S, M, L, etc. I like that you don't have to create a user name/password to order online. The time to cook was high on a Saturday afternoon. 60 min for pickup and 90 for delivery. Not sure if those are dynamic times or based on toppings, but much higher than anywhere else I've ordered from. Pizza was ready and not super hot when I arrived to pick it up, so likely took less than 60 min. No notification telling me it was ready though. Interior is very clean and all good handling employees had gloves and masks on. Pricing is bit higher compared to others $33 for XXL (20"?), but it's good pizza and still not bad when consider cost per person based on size.
