I would give this place 5 stars for the food but the service was so terrible I have to give it 3. Our food took an hour and I was starving to death by the time it finally came. The waiter seemed stoned which I have nothing against but he could have cared less about the level of service he was providing which is annoying. My husband and I did not have a good experience in this restaurant. Our waiter was really annoying. He started by telling us that most of his customers come for the pizzas because there are WORLD renowned (really....) and suggested that we tried the pasta which are supposedly handmade. My husband had a pizza and it tasted good (not great) and I had the gnocchi (I really doubt there were handmade as they all looked identical with a perfect round shape...). It tasked OK (again, not great). And the worst of all... they make you pay for water! The waiter brought me a bottle and I told him I was fine with tap water. So apparently Charleston has crappy pizza. This is what my folks tell me at least. Which is why they were so excited to stumble upon this place, run by a family from Boston. The pizza is pretty decent, but I would prefer a heartier sauce. It was a little thin and didn't seem to be much more than tomatoes. The crust and toppings, however, were good. I also tried the sausage stuffed chicken and the lasagna, both of which where better-than-average. All in all, a good meal, but not a great one (my parents hyped the place a bit too much, I think). I went there with my beautiful bride and her parents and the food was fantastic. My wife and her mother ordered a margharita pizza to share and her father and I both ordered strombolis. Best stromboli I have had in years. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and I really love strombolis because I practically grew up eating them. La Pizzeria really knows how to make stromboli. I have had a tough time finding a good stromboli here in Charleston, SC but I will become a regular at La Pizzeria just for the stromboli. I have had pizza in about 30 different cities in the US, and I can say THIS is the best pizza I've had in the US so far. Seriously. The crust, the dough, and THE SAUCE were AMAZING (so were all the other ingredients we had-shrimp, feta, mushrooms). We also had a couple of desserts and they were amazing, with a perfect level of sweetness and so very fresh. We also had coffee at the end of the meal and even that was superb. I called in a pickup order with my brother for one large cheese pizza and the gentleman informed us it will be around 20 minutes until it is ready. We arrived close to 25 minutes after the call to have the same individual proceed to tell us that someone with my brothers name and same exact order only a few moments ago picked up our pizza and walked out. The situation was very odd for a simple pickup order and the way it was handled made us feel as if the order was never even put in to begin with. La pizzeria is a delightful find in the Mt. Pleasant area. We enjoyed the house salad as well as pasta with bolognese sauce. The real winner, however, was the pizza. Having tasted pizza from New Haven, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and LA, I have to say this place delivered solidly. The crust was semi-thin (thicker than NYC), chewy but with a nice flavor. The sauce was subtle with a balanced tomato flavor. The cheese had a nice texture and flavor - not your typical mozzarella but very good regardless. My only gripe is that the space is limited and might be hard to accommodate larger parties. read more

Authentic Italian restaurant! We ordered a pizza for carryout and had an amazing experience in the few minutes we were inside. The owners and staff are so friendly and helpful. The ingredients are authentic and often imported from Italy. The pizza was so delicious but ask for extra cheese if you want a normal 'chain-pizza' amount of cheese. The desserts (especially the cheesecake) looked delicious and were made in house. The atmosphere was so cute and romantic. I always enjoy my favorite dishes at LaPizzeria. Both my dog Lucy and I are greeted by name. My favorite dish is the linguine with clam sauce. There is no heavy white sauce on the pasta , but rather a very light wine sauce. The clams are very small and in their shells. Tried this place recently and was a bit disappointed. We ordered the bruschetta which was awesome, and the caprese pizza. The pizza was not all that great, it was basically caprese salad on top of a dry pizza. The mozzarella was good but not melted on the pizza. This little spot is awesome. Every time I go to the T-Mobile store, which I seem to go to frequently (I love T-Mobile) I stop in here. Food is excellent and service is top notch.
