We ordered to-go for the first time tonight after seeing all the recommendations on our local Facebook community page and they did not disappoint! They are currently closed for Dine in due to Covid. We ordered the Chile verde dinner, steak fajitas dinner and a kids cheese quesadilla dinner. All were SO GOOD. They even have the option to special order flour chips instead or corn tortilla chips which we greatly appreciate because my husband has a corn allergy. Service was very fast (food ready in 15 mins) and food portions were really big. Definitely a new favorite! read more

Went out for lunch to my one-time favorite Mexican food eatery that I've frequented since 1984 when I first moved to Orangevale. The old La Placita Dos farther west on Greenback before it closed was a second choice with essentially the same menu as it was closer to my old house at the time, but I'd still go back to the original as the food just tasted better. It's been a couple of years since last there as I live and work a considerable distance away, but always looked forward to the food and flavors that I fondly remembered. But the food has changed from the old favorites, and not in a good way. The rice was cooked almost to mush, the once-great hot salsa was nowhere near as good as before and the mild was more ketchup than salsa, though the chili relleno and enchilada was good. Prices are high everywhere and I can appreciate that. But after dropping over $30 for lunch and a beer I believe this will have been my last trip out to La Placita. I commend the efforts that the new management has done to support the Orangevale community and neighborhood, but when the food declines from what made the place special in the first place, maybe a focus on getting back to the originals and pay attention to the kitchen might help. read more

Our family has been coming here for over 20 years, my parents before us started coming back in the early 80s. The food is amazing! BEST refried beans in the world. The meats are great quality and salsa is always the same and we like that! My husband and I used to come here as kids with our parents and now we have been bringing our 10 year old since before she was born. The owners are so nice and are part of our life. We love you guys! Hello, this is the 10yr old daughter and it's true that we have been coming for a LONG time and, I love their food so much! The Good: Plenty of seating. Good service. The carnitas comes in mild, medium, or spicy. The beans and rice were obviously fresh. The squeeze bottles of salsa gave me a chuckle, but, it probably cuts down on waste. The spicier salsa was really good. The bad: The spicy carnitas was crispy. Not in a bad way, but I was expecting a more moist, tender meat. Maybe it's briefly cooked a second time in something spicy ?? I am so thankful for this restaurant being so close and locally owned so I always feel amazing eating here and supporting the owners. This is by far my favorite Mexican food. We used to go to the other location way back in the day and sadly when that location closed we didn't realize this location existed until last year. The menu is amazing and I don't know if you can go wrong with any choice. That being said my absolute musts are the flour chips - their corn chips are also my favorite but I'm partial to the flour chips - the bean dip which you can add chorizo to if you partake in meat/pork, the nachos, and the enchiladas. The place can get busy during lunch but be patient with the staff as they always are so kind and treat everyone equally. WARNING! WARNING WILL ROBINSON!! First off all you're on Greenback (aka "Greenback Speedway") trying to SLOWLY & CAREFULLY turn into the World's worst driveways to this beyond decrepid parking lot. The driveways have HUGE DITCHES that'll TRASH your cars' under carriage. Go NEGATIVE 10mph! After that, you'll get to "enjoy the experience" of their glorious parking lot. WOW I'm pretty sure you could lose a basketball in just one of the holes in the cement. I'm going to go out on a limb & say this strip mall's owner is waiting for all of these businesses to close so he can sell the whole property for beaucoup bucks to some scum sucking developer (IMHO of course). Even if you're calling a tow truck, go eat at LA PLACITA. Can I say 10 million stars? Fabulous! It was PACKED with locals & amazing food & an incredibly great staff. I honestly haven't seen a staff that had it this together in years. Our waitress, Lucia, even made a second to tease my husband about his hating peppers as she swooshed by to another table. Everything you want is taken care of *before* you ask for it. Kudos to the young family who left as soon as trouble started with their younger son (he had no intention of calming down). Wine comes in a water glass! The staff is so quick the tables turn over FAST. If you want a quick, hearty meal this is the place. Ask for Lucia - she's probably the best waitress you'll ever meet. We decided to go into one of our favorite Mexican restaurants for dinner tonight. When we got there, we noticed tables under a pop tent with a sign stating that they're understaffed and appreciative of everyone's patience. No problem. Right around the 70 minute mark, we were seated. A server came by and took our order for drinks. My 8-year-old daughter wanted hot cocoa. When my wife asked if they make hot cocoa, his reply was "Sadly, yes." What exactly does this mean? "Sadly..." because you don't want to make it? "Sadly..." because it sucks? What exactly is sad about a business serving hot cocoa? So, our 8-year-old felt as if she did something wrong and became sad herself. As much as I wanted to confront the server, I decided to let it go; I didn't want to ruin the night out. Right around the 15 minute mark of waiting for someone to take our order, a waitress came and took our order. Right about the 40 minute mark after ordering, 10 people at 4 different tables who ordered after us received their orders. At this point, I asked for a manager. When the manager arrived, I explained everything to him and he immediately replied that our order took longer than all of the other orders because we ordered items with seasoned steak. I'd like to point out that the only item that had steak (nachos) was, essentially, ground beef. He did, however, state that he would go check on our order and see what the delay was. Within a minute, two of the three entrees came out, shortly followed by the third. The manager's assertion that our order took longer because we had steak is complete bunk. The ends of the chips for the nachos were burned, and the sauces, beans, and cheese of the other two entrees (burritos) were baked to the plates. Our meals were left under the heat lamps for who knows how long. The meals were mediocre at best, which is a shame because we've always been very happy at La Placita. We finished our meals and payed. To summarize, we waited roughly 40 minutes for average dinners, only to receive them after I complained that 10 other people received their meals before us, who all ordered after us, and expressed our frustration in no uncertain terms. We didn't receive anything off the price of the meals. Instead, we payed full price for this disappointing experience, accompanied with a second explanation that our food took longer because of ground steak. We've been going to La Placita for approximately 10 years if not more, including La Placita Dos before it closed. We won't be back. La Placita receives 1 star due to the fact that previous pleasant experiences are incapable of making up for tonight's abismal service. read more

I have no clue how this restaurant has so many reviews at such a high rating I'm going to assume it's the demographics however first let's get this out the way there is nothing authentic about this food it's the same crap quality as aldabertos, however even aldabertos takes the challenge on their salsas!!! I have never in my life had such horrible salsa, it's absolutely tasteless if their idea of authentic salsa is that mess then they need to take a trip back to Mexico to get Gramma's recipe! I've given this place 2 tries hoping the first time was just a bad day or fill in cook but NOPE same tasteless garbage as last time! The taste took me back when I was a kid when my family went out to their favorite Mexican restaurant in L.A. Sometimes, that's when you know that you came across a diamond in the rough. Located in the far left of the strip shopping center, its easy to miss unless you're familiar with the area. So next time, when you are in the mood for excellent Mexican food and a family friendly service, please give La Placita a try. You won't be disappointed. Had a family dinner for 12 there wed night 2/12/20. Called a week in advance talked to Carlos the manager he arranged a table for 6 pm. As we have dined here before we knew it would be crowded but the level of service was just great. Autumn was our waitress and you could tell we were in good hands.
