Excellent food, service, and ambience. I had no idea this place has been open for more than 20 years! We went to use a gift certificate. We shared mussels and the beet salad to start--they brought us the salad split on two plates which was a nice touch. And the mussel broth was SO luscious and tasty. For the entree I had the duck leg confit with "truffle essence" which I'd eat again and recommend. It comes with chive risotto and tableside mushrooms. I appreciated the tableside mushrooms--the skin on the duck stayed crispy even with the shrooms and broth poured over. Very good. My boyfriend got the lamb shank and it was HUGE. He loved it. All of our food was wonderful and I'd like to come back here for a special occasion. It's romantic and dimly lit with a welcoming atmosphere. Not too fancy and certainly not too casual. read more

Understated elegance. La Plage is the best restaurant in the area. It's a little out of the way, down by the water, and 100% worth leaving the beaten path to get there. It's not fancy-- it's just amazing. It's most definitely a fine dining experience but without the fussiness that usually comes along with that. The cocktails are delicious as well as the incredible food- which I would characterize as new American with a French feel, with an expertise in seafood. I would enthusiastically recommend it for dates, special occasions, get togethers with friends. I do not recommend it for families w young children. There's no kids menu nor high chairs, and it's somewhat close quarters. Definitely make a reservation or it's likely you'll be disappointed. read more

Sorry to be having to share this. Had anniversary dinner here last night and it was not good. I let them know the occasion and yet we were sat by the bathroom- romantic having everyone in the restaurant brushing past us and standing behind my chair... The service was rushed- server didn't ask how we wanted courses- brought oysters with other apps and took salad away without asking before I was done. The worst however was the food. Poorly seasoned- sauces were thin and either flavorless or way out of balance. Fried rice in Fluke dish was a salt lick (way too much soy sauce presumably) with little other flavor, the Branzino was uninspired, sandy from the clams some of which were not the freshest tasting, chorizo was bland (tasted like baloney), broth was watery and lacked any real flavor, and the tart apple salad was limp, looked pre-prepared and sitting around/not fresh and overpowered by too much sesame oil in the dressing. Lobster ravioli was fine, but again with a watery, poorly seasoned sauce. All around far below their usual high standards we've experienced in the past. The only thing high end about the meal were the prices. Very disappointing. read more

While I have heard wonderful things about this restaurant, I have never personally dined at La Plage. My first experience was my recent To-Go order that I placed during this pandemic. Pulling up to the restaurant, I could not believe how beautiful the location was. La Plage is situated directly across from the beach. I ordered the green apple salad and the beet salad - both were so fresh and so unbelievably delicious. I have been brainstorming how I can recreate the green apple salad at home! I ordered the horseradish crusted salmon and the sauteed broccolini - both were so tasty. It seemed only natural that I take my dinner across the street and eat while watching the sunset. It was perfect. Although the meal was pricey, the portions were very generous. The only complaints I have are that the restaurant does not give bread with their take-out orders. They also do not provide any utensils so be sure to bring your own! read more

Meh. Went there a few times and they allowed me to hang outside with my dogs on a day sofa in the parking lot while a server brought us drinks. That part was cool. Till one day a lady came out and said "no no no, this is NOT happening! You can't have dogs here". Lovely restaurant right on the Long Island sound. Ambience and decor was nice, bright, clean, and cozy... not a big place at all. Two main rooms, very small bar, if you can even call it a bar. Food was delicious and very fresh and carefully prepared. Drinks and bread were great, and the desserts, especially the sorbet, were incredibly flavorful. I had the beef carpaccio app with a swordfish entree, which were excellent. But the real stars of the night was the staff and management, who were pleasant, polite, friendly, highly accommodating and attentive, professional, and made us feel very welcome. Service was on point throughout. Easily evident this is a well run operation, and it showed. For us, it was a little tough to get to from the LIE, and really in a remote location of LI, but a special little establishment that we will certainly be returning to. read more

Many of you may argue that they never left but for someone who's been there North of 10x in my life, with the first one being over 15 years ago, they've had their ups and downs food wise IMO and they are definitely not only on their way up, but killin' it right now. And here's why: Apps: + Roasted Bay Scallops. $15. Sweet Butter / Fresh Herbs / Caviar. Served in their half shell, fantastic...and beautifully presented. It's all about the sweet butter... + Creamy Rutabaga Soup. $10. Honey Crisp Apple Puree / Rosemary Croutons. When was the last time you had rutabaga soup? It's been forever for me and the soup really hit the spot...especially on a nice crisp evening. The apple puree was a nice touch...not something you'd immediately think of, but the apple sauce'esque flavor was just awesome. Croutons were good but I don't think it really needed it...though from a texture and herb perspective, I see why they did it. Entrees: + Ancho Braised Lamb Shank. $31. Squash Risotto / Swiss Chard / Toasted Walnut Gremolata. My picture I've posted on the review is worth tens of thousands of words...the lamb shank fell right off the bone with a little touch of your fork, the squash risotto was exquisite, and the chard was great accompaniment under the lamb shank. It was a much needed green as well as an Earthy/hint of bitter flavor that the dish needed due to the richness of the risotto and the shank + Butter Poached Lobster. Baby Bok Choy / Mascarpone Orzo / Yellow Squash / Black Sesame Ginger. $43. It was a 1.5lb lobster butterflied and served (half) on top of the risotto and the bok choy. The lobster was perfectly cooked (and just succulently undercooked) with the risotto providing the much needed richness that lobster craves. The bok choy was good as well...great dish, and very filling. + Pan Roasted Branzino. $32. Chorizo sausage / sardinian cous cous / roasted peppers swiss chard / little neck clams / saffron. We ordered it extra crispy and mannnnnnnnn was that skin delicious. The cous cous was perfect as well as the sausage that provided the much needed salinity to this dish. Thankfully, they didn't over salt anything and in fact, only had some nice finishing salt on the extra crispy skin. All together, the dish lent itself well to the salt from the cured pork meat (chorizo) sliced on your plate... + Evening Ravioli Special. $x.xx ($25-35?) Fantastic squash filling / ravioli (IIRC), perfectly undercooked (al dente obviously) and topped with grated cheese, chives, and pulled beef. Soooooooo delicious....that ravioli just hit the spot. You don't need to eat more than one (you can if you'd like) to have it just hit all the right senses... Location: + Yes, they have their own parking lot, it's located steps from Wading River Beach (hence, La Plage, which means "The beach" in French, how fitting). They feature a nice sized welcome bar in the hostess vestibule area for which they can whip up some great cocktails for you that are priced decently. Not the usual $16-18 you pay for Longuyland cocktails nowadays... There were 3 of us and we split several dishes as you can see...we ordered a bottle of Grgich 2010 Cab Sauv for $130 (IIRC) and managed to spend almost $600 for the evening. We arrived at this quaint restaurant across from the beach. The pics with let you think it's on the beach but no. There's a beach parking lot separating you and the view if you're seated outside. We sat outside, it was cooling down from a long day of humid hot sun. Was very nice except for the biting flies and such but they were prepared with bug spray! Yeh! Everything looked great on the menu. We started with a Cali white. Pretty nice. Apps was a lobster, crab ricotta ravioli in a light sauce. It's was ingested so fast...not even time for photo. Excellent dish. Along with raw oysters and clams. These were fresh but tiny. Then again it's August. As we were waiting to order we saw plates and plates of people ordering the Lobster special, the wonderful aroma was making our heads turn as the servers passed by delivering the entree to the next table. Of course we had to try it to see if it was as good as it looked. It was actually even better than expected. The buttered lobster was cooked to perfection and I mean perfection. Just to the point of doneness. Tender, seasoned well. Accompanied by a creamy risotto. There's always a chance with lobster to be over cooked and over salted. This was absolutely perfect. Probably the best I've had, ever. The filet mignon med rare. Could have been slightly more on rare but very good nonetheless. The mashed potatoes and portobellos were perfected paired. The Duck Confit was nice, duck was nicely prepared over risotto. The risotto was a bit over salted. Texture a little too l'dente for me. Dessert was crème brûlée, perfect tap to break the sugary crust. The custard was so creamy. Perfect ending to a wonderful night. And Green Apple sorbet, just lovely. Light and refreshing. Summer delight. The service was so great, attentive. Merger had to look for someone for anything. Excellent. But got better...across at the beach, they had an outdoor movie night on a big screen playing Finding Nemo. Movies goers brought the beach chairs and cooler for movie night. American. This place has had a good reputation and when some friends suggested we all meet out there, it seemed like a good idea. The place is a long way out but situated in a nice setting steps from Long Island Sound. If it wasn't for the old nuclear power plant sitting a few hundred yards away, it might even be more romantic. Since you don't see the nuke plant you tend to forget about it... until you leave again. The setting is done in mild tones and although the place is small, you have enough room between the tables so that you are not sitting up against anyone else. Nautical themed paintings adorn the walls. The food selection was decent and it would all seem to be from fresh ingredients. That being said however, I simply wasn't wowed by any of it. I doubt I was having an off night so when I surveyed the rest of my group, the consensus seemed to be the same: decent, but nothing spectacular. So what does that leave? A nice scenic view and high costs for dinner. We weren't really hitting the booze and the bill averaged out to about $100 per person with tip included. Tres high for a non-mind blowing meal. I would not especially recommend this place unless you went for cocktails at sunset or something like that. La Plage is always amazing! Beautiful views of the sound out front and the preserve area behind the restaurant. The place is small and intimate with a very classy atmosphere with local Jax gyotaku fish-printing paintings (for sale) hung on every wall. Friendly hostesses and servers, and the best-quality food served on beautiful dish ware. We ordered: Appetizers: Beef carpaccio & Octopus salad Entrees: Bacon-wrapped shrimp over risotto & Shellfish over pappardelle pasta Dessert: Blueberry crumble and vanilla ice cream drizzled with caramel Everything was perfect as always, including special requests. The only thing I wish is that they would change their menu a little more based on the seasons--the menu has been the same for at least the last year & a half (they do add specials). Usually fine dining places such as this tend to change up their selections a little more. While I love what is on the current menu, it would be great to either add more or have the menu rotate throughout the year. If you visit in the summer, try the beautiful outdoor seating. If you are coming from the beach, change first--this is an upscale restaurant. While jackets are not required, flip-flops and bathing suits do not fit in here. La Plage is an absolute must-try! We had quite a good experience here. Food: the restaurant served from a fixed price menu. The soup was merely okay, but both the Branzino and seafood pasta exceeded expectations. The dessert was more beautiful than it was tasty, but still quite unique. Allow me to strongly recommend the pappardelle pasta with shellfish, I am confident that you will not regret ordering it. The wine pairing was done well, too. My Merlot-like wine was exquisite with my meal. Service: extremely responsive staff. Absolutely no complaints. Decor: this is a relatively small restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. The parking lot appeared quite full even though only two tables seemed to be occupied...odd? The beach across the street is gorgeous; we even went across to play on the swing a bit before heading back home. I sure hope to return to try the chef's other options. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I'm plant based so I called ahead to see if the chef could accommodate and boy the could! Starting off with the most delicious homemade bread at the table, la plage did not disappoint. The prices are high but it is well worth it. It's a cozy little place with professional servers. They made me a pesto pasta with delicious vegetables. My father ordered the cheese tray and the salmon and constantly throughout his meal was saying how good everything was, he didn't want to finish his plate because it was so good. I ordered the jalapeño margarita and coconut margarita and both were very strong and delicious. I will definitely be back again on a special occasion. read more

Ive been here a few times. I did like what I had each time. Their Osso Bucco was very good and I enjoyed their Rigatoni. They certainly know how to cook. I just don't think their prices are perfectly aligned with what they offer. The setting is very romantic and a good spot to celebrate Valentines Day or an Anniversary. read more
