My husband and I have been coming here for the past 3 years and it is our absolute favorite restaurant on the North Shore. It's actually one of our favorite restaurants in general! We are very picky when it comes to cuisine and have eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants around the world and La Plage ranks at those levels. You can taste the love in every bite! The fluke, lobster special in the summer, beef carpaccio, clams, short ribs special in the winter, scallops, tricolor salad, the list goes on and on..everything is always cooked to perfection and absolutely incredible. The hardest part is picking which entry or appetizer to order! For the consistent quality of the food, the cozy ambience and five star service the prices are not high. Food was sooo delicious!!! And our service was great too. We decided to just split a few appetizers which was a great idea. We got the cheese platter, the Apple salad, a tuna Tartar special, and the mussels. The cheese platter was the perfect size with great variety, we could not stop eating it!! The tuna tartar was fresh and so tasty. And the mussels, you could drink the sauce they put it in. For dessert, we split a creme brûlée. It was soo good!! We only wished they added more berries. Just celebrated my engagement earlier in the day with a fantastic dinner at La Plage. The Lobster and Scallops were absolutely outstanding - but the real gem to uncover about this beachside wonder is the staff. My newly-diamond-adorned fiancee and I, being from NYC, forget that it is hard to find a ride home past midnight. When we checked our Uber apps and realized we would have no way to get from the restaurant to the hotel (no cars available) the team asked us to stick around, enjoy some cocktails on the house, and that they would find us a way home. Lots of character and kindness in the staff, knowing that what couple would want to walk more than 45 minutes after midnight on their engagement day. Max, in particular, was very helpful and I would like to give him a personal shout out on here. Thanks Max! La Plage is a quaint French restaurant across the street from Long Island Sound in Wading River. This little gem is full of atmosphere. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The seafood platter is a delicious choice for an appetizer and easily feeds four people. The lobster special was full of flavor. Last night we sat outside under the lights. It was a bit cool and breezy and I was a little disappointed that they didn't have outdoor heaters to keep the patrons warm. They did however provide blankets to each of us which was very cozy. We always have a wonderful experience here and I highly recommend an evening at La Plage. read more

La Plage is my favorite "fancy date night" restaurant. My partner and I love the food and will splurge every now-and-then on the menu here. The charcuterie board starter is fantastic and simply starts off an amazing meal. The rest of the menu is also terrific (although I've only tried a few things between both of our dishes). I usually stick to the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and it is a strong contender for one of the best dishes I have ever had (I try other dishes elsewhere I just can't resist this one here). Definitely prepare to spend some extra money over your average restaurant, especially if you're paying for a group, but it's extremely worth it. I came to La Plage for my 1st wedding anniversary. The interior is interesting -- Seems as though a nice beach front property house was converted into a restaurant. Vintage wooden chairs and classic simple white table clothes. For those who are claustrophobic, this atmosphere might not be for you. I overall liked the luxurious feel of the inside despite the size which would annoy me in other circumstances. The Food, overall I was underwhelmed. I did research the menu online and I really wanted the Lamb Shank to the point where I was really looking forward to it. Much to my dismay, on the printed menu, I did not see the beloved Lamb Shank I had been anticipating. So I ordered the Short Ribs instead. The menu listed "Grits" as the side dish which I was excited about. I was looking forward to tasting a great chef's take on grits. However, after ordering, the waitress told me there were no more grits and were replaced by mashed potatoes. This is where I recognized a trend with this restaurant. Several items were "Not available" when I asked about different entrees on the menu. Is this a "cute" strategy for the restaurant owner to create a "limited supply" feel to his food? "Gotta get here earlier to taste it!" I'm not amused if this is the case and I was overall annoyed that was consistently an issue with the menu. We made the best of the situation and overall it was a decent meal. My short ribs were good, flavorful, seemed like a small portion for the cost but still elegant. My wife had Duck with Risotto --- and the bites I had from her's were amazing. I wish I ordered that. Overall, the "limited supply" is what has triggered my review score. Better management would have given a 3 or 4 star review. I should say this was during Long Island restaurant week. So it might be more consistent during these not busy weeks. Good food and a great atmosphere. But the small portions and missing items for what seemed every entree prompted my low review. I'd suggest to management that there are ways to get around this situation - using your website as a tool to show what today's menu looks like for example, would have balanced my expectations. read more

First, there really is no view. The restaurant and the water are separated by a parking lot, the highway, another big parking lot, and the beach. There are people in Iowa with better views of the Ocean. Second, a sign on the restaurant directs you to parking down the street. However, you can only park between white lines in that lot. Yellow lines require a permit. And the lines are fading and hard to see. The signs that tell you this are very small. Clearly the restaurant doesn't care, or their parking sign would be bigger. Of course, the greedy town loves every penny. read more

My family and I have been coming here every summer from Queens, NY for years. And I've never complained until today. There's a public beach right across so we usually spend some time there after our meal. We initially made a reservation for 2:15pm but with traffic from Queens we rescheduled for 4pm and got there 30 min early. One of the servers (wish I got his name) approached us in a rude manner as soon as he saw us park in the parking lot further away from the restaurant. He pulled in impatiently nearly hitting my daughter and shouted multiple times "do you see where you're parking", as if we didn't know how to read. I had advised him to approach customers in a nicer way especially when running a business, and he said "if you think this is being rude you haven't seen anything yet". He assumed we were taking advantage of the parking lot just for the beach. He claimed to be the owner of the restaurant and when we stepped in to cancel our reservation he had just clocked in to serve for dinner. We spoke to the manager and said he'll have a word with him. We did not feel comfortable eating there anymore after that horrible altercation. I would understand if the parking lot was packed and we were taking up space just for the beach, but that was not the case. We were long time customers just trying to enjoy our day off from the city. read more

My husband and I were on a date night last night and had dinner at La Plage restaurant. We had reservations for eight thirty but we arrived at eight and were able to be seated. The restaurant is located across the street from the beach. We ordered two drinks, one Coconut Margarita and a Bourbon cocktail. They were both delicious with a substantial amount of alcohol. I ordered Sweet Corn soup for my appetizer and it was amazing. It was so tasty! It had chunks of real crabmeat in it. My husband ordered a Mussels dish for his appetizer and he enjoyed it tremendously. It should be noted that a special touch was the freshly baked loaf of bread served to each customer. My husband ordered Pork Osso Bucco as his entree and he was immensely pleased with it. It was such a huge serving he couldn't finish the meal. I ordered one of the night's specials which was a Halibut dish with Kale, Oyster mushrooms and grape tomatoes. It was seasoned nicely and was extremely delicious. The serving was quite large so I brought it home and had it for lunch today. We ordered one dessert and shared it. It was a special for the night. It was German Chocolate cake with Amaretto. We also had Expresso coffee. It was fabulous and a great end to a lovely evening. Although we had to drive an hour to get to this restaurant it is so worth it! Every single dish that we ordered exceeded our expectations. The wait staff were very attentive and although it was a busy night we had no complaints about their service. We are already making plans to return during the summer when we could stroll on the beach after our sure to be delicious meal. read more

My daughter in law took me to La Plage today and it was truly a wonderful surprise. We took my 7 month old grandson along with us and new this was a winner when he started chomping on the bread which was homemade and delicious. The quaint waterfront restaurant is unique. The food was fresh and fabulous! The wait staff were very attentive but not annoyingly so. I highly recommend the beet salad and the Rigatoni with shrimp. It couldn't be any better. My daughter in law had the Pappardella dish with muscles and scallops in a spicy pomodoro sauce. She loved it, thus the return visits to this little secret five star restaurant! Took the little one to the swings across the street and the beach held a beautiful backdrop to a gorgeous day spent with my two loves! read more

Just had an amazing dinner here! Between the seven of us, we probably ordered most of the menu and there wasn't a negative word about any of it. Our waitress was amazing and patient; we showed up at slightly different times and she listed the beers probably three different times with a smile on her face and a Disney Princess voice. They have funky cocktails, a good beer selection, and a huge wine list that includes wines from all over the world and more Long Island wines than I usually see North of Mattituck. I had the papardelle pasta, which comes with bay scallops, baby shrimp, and a whole bunch of mussels with a spicy sauce that I'm still thinking about. My boyfriend had the duck, which isn't really my thing, but it was great. A few of us shared the creme brulee for dessert and I'm drooling just typing about it. The ambiance is so lovely. Small, beautifully decorated, waterfront. Unfortunately, we went on a crappy night weather-wise, but I'm dying to go back when it's nicer out and the sun stays out longer. read more

We found this a couple of months ago and have already been there maybe six times. Food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. Weve loved all three bartenders we've met who give really honest advice about the food and drinks. We've met very nice people at nearby tables who have been going there for years. It's across the street from the ocean and a lovely cool breeze blows through the restaurant and bar during the summertime. Having lived in Manhattan for quite some time we are thrilled to have found such a lovely place out here in Wading River where we've been spending a lot of time due to Covid. Sometimes in areas relatively isolated from a multitude of fine dining opportunities, a mediocre establishment can be named "the best around" not because of quality, but because of an absence of competition. Sadly, this is the conclusion I've arrived at. Is the location good? Absolutely. Is the plating beautiful? Yes. Could the ambience be conceived by many as romantic? I would have to say so. However, where La Plage excels in image, it falls behind in flavor and technique. The meal began well with a crisp and delicious tart apple salad, but the meal quickly unraveled when the entrees arrived. My dates tuna was severely overcooked (dry and well-done), an amateurish mistake which in my lowly opinion, would alone warrant a negative review. I ordered linguini with scallops, shrimp, and mussels in a "spicy" red sauce. In actuality, the dish tasted like bland condensed tomato soup with mollusks and noodles, and was virtually inedible. Because I was mortified at the thought of sending both entrees back, my date and I somberly ate our respective meals as though it were an obligation. Dessert was unremarkable. In terms of value, even if its relatively hefty price tag were halved, I would be hesitant to return. I have heard many very positive things about La Plage from many people I trust, though based on my experience, they seem very hard to justify. read more

La Plage is another hidden gem of Eastern Long Island. Tucked back on the shore of Wading River, La Plage is, as the name implies, on the beach and specializes in beautifully executed french/american cuisine. While you will always find some beautiful seafood on the menu, every dish is excellent. I've had, hands down, one the BEST duck confits here....so good I can still taste it melting in my mouth. They frequently have special nights, featuring tasting tapas, BYOW, and special prix-fixes. Their wine list hosts many local wines including one of my favorite vineyards, Shinn Estate. All in all, this is a perfect afternoon or evening food adventure, taking you into some of Long Island's more beautiful backroads and delectable local cuisine. Ate here last night with a friend and had a great dinner service. Parking in the back was easy and the place was quaint and had plenty of seats available (Wednesday night is never that busy). We had come hoping for some nice seafood specials in addition to what was on the menu. While there was only a lobster special and something else, there was a wide range of specials sure to please anyone in your group. I ordered off the regular menu and had the Sea Scallops and Gnocchi. My friend and I split an order of the Mussel appetizer and a bottle of the Jamesport Sauvignon Blanc, which is always a favorite of mine. First of all, the waiter was very pleasant and knowledgeable, however, at many points in the evening he went missing and I had to flag down someone else to get him or to get something for us. The mussels in white wine sauce were delicious and a generous portion. The scallops were market fresh and while accompanied by a tasty and vibrant Black Pepper Gnocchi, the scallops could have been cooked slightly longer. We passed on dessert, however, there were many options, all which sounded satisfying. I look forward to coming back when it is warmer and when the outdoor seating is open. Amazing lunch prix-fixe!! What a great deal for $25! I got the green apple tart salad as an app, the shrimp rigatoni pasta entree and a chocolate custard dessert as well as a glass of merlot. The dessert was eh but everything else was delicious and exceeded expectations! After seeing the dinner menu, I think this is a better place to go for lunch rather than dinner. This cute simply decorated wonderful little place is our new favorite. We had been trying to find something to match the delicious french food we had in Vermont and this place smashed it on the nose...and topped it. We love the beautiful serene location in front of the water. The calming elegant but beach-ish decor is wonderful. The place is immaculate. Our first time we were there we were blown away by the food. On our second visit Stephan our server, a delightful guy...you can literally see the intuitive passion he has for this exquisite food he serves. I loved that he remembered us and seemed delighted we were back. It is never an overkill he has a humble professional and warm personality and it shows his obvious years of experience in the art of cooking and feeding people. We always have the cheese plate- It is just mouth watering. There is a small dish of honey and sliced green apples to compliment the cheeses he selected and wonderful crostini to deliver it to our mouths....Before we even get that he already has place a hot fresh crusty dinner roll with chive butter in front of each us. We love to listen to his description of the food he understands what he is expressing so well. Also, he remembered I am allergic to mushrooms and knew just how to replace the flavor appropriately. I always have the duck or braised short ribs with chive risotto and truffle reduction he makes special for me since i cant eat the mushrooms I love so much. my picky Husband is so enthralled with the pan seared bass special he had that day, and he is very picky with fish. It is almost impossible to prepare fish the way he will like it but I cant forget him saying "This is what fish is supposed to be like!!" He is a man of few words so that was major. Last but not least...the dessert...its fresh, they make it there and OMG the CREME BRULEE ....I had to pinch myself and make sure I didn't die on the way there without realizing it. Stephan is an awesome person and on our last visit he even decided to slip in an extra course and surprise us...it made me feel that he loved our love for his fresh beautiful food. It was a scallop, I cant even remember what ingenious thing he did because it went down so fast and was unbelievable...the fact he did that special for us just made me love him that much more. I don't know even what it is with this place.... we have had a lot of good food in life but I think sometimes, when all the right elements come together in one place it becomes nothing short of bliss. All I can say is that I'm a little disappointed that I'm giving La Plage a three star review. After reading other reviews, I really had high hopes for this restaurant, especially since there are so few really good restaurants in Long Island. We went here recently during the Hampton's restaurant week, having made our reservations for 7:00 pm several nights before. We arrived at 6:55 and were told that they were waiting for a table and to have a seat in the porch area. The only downside was that the porch area was only closed in by flimsy plastic, and its not heated... and it couldn't have been more than 35 degrees outside. So we waited, along with another couple who arrived before us. Ten, 15, 20 minutes pass. Finally around 25 minutes the other couple gets seated, and the waitress tells them that the restaurant would like to buy them drinks for the trouble of waiting out in the cold. This peaked our interest, and we thought that maybe waiting wouldn't be so bad. Finally 30-35 minutes after waiting in the cold for our 7:00 reservation a table was ready, alas unlike the other couple, no mention of any drinks on the house. So by the time we got in, I was ready for my warm french onion soup, but I ended up being kinda disappointed with it. I wasn't bad, but it just wasnt really anything that great either. The little apple pieces were a nice touch, but the soup itself was just kinda meh. And so it went for the rest of the meal. The entrees were okay (we had the pork shank and the duck confit), but they really just weren't special, and I wish I could side with Dave S, but we've had much better duck confit (one of these days I'll get around to writing a review to La Sirene in nyc). Honestly for me the best part was the crumb cake desert which was very good. My girlfriend got the chocolate bread pudding, which was good, but was really more of a brownie, not a bread pudding. But when it comes down to it, its kind of unfortunate for the desert to be the best part of a meal. All in all, I dunno. I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe if we hadn't waited 30 minutes in the cold for our (reserved!) table I would be giving this four stars, maybe not. The meal itself was not bad, but with the reputation that La Plage has acquired over the years for being a high-quality restaurant, today's service really made our experience a three-star restaurant. This is a wonderful restaurant with great atmosphere and welcoming service. Superb wine & cocktail list. Located right on the water, but it's too bad that outdoor seating is away from the western (sunset) side of the building. Still I had a fantastic meal to remember and will return. I highly recommend La Plage for a special evening. Bonus: I left my birthday card on the table and they promptly mailed to it me at home 70 miles away. Major points for that level of service!!! I've only been here only twice because it's a bit out of way from where we live. The first time was about 15 years ago, and second time was yesterday on our way to tanger outlet. Both times I've been extremely satisfied with my meal. Small, charming restaurant with a waterview and situated across from the beach. Dress was very casual and service was good and not overly intrusive. Service sometimes got too casual since our water wasn't always filled. We had the duck confit, tomato salad, and then the lunch prix fixe -- glass of chardonnay, potato soup, fish du jour which was the pan seared scallops with butternut squash puree, and chocolate mousse, and coffee. The $25 lunch prix fixe was a great deal, and the food was fresh and cooked to almost perfection. I really liked the tomato salad but wished the tomatoes were a bit sweeter. Both the duck and scallops were fantastic although I do prefer my scallops pan seared slightly longer with a more crispy, golden-brown crust, especially when the butternut puree is already soft and creamy in texture. Chocolate mousse was just heavenly. After a lunch like this one, you realize why life is so good. read more

this place was great. was me and my date, showed up, took our reservation, but hint to first goers, specially if you make reservations, if they dont ask you if you want inside or outside (they didnt for me, no big deal though), ask for outside, if its spring/summer/fall, its a pretty nice place. inside was not bad though. for food, my date got the rigatoni pasta with Sun Dried Tomato-Manchego Cheese Butter, Baby Spinach / Flambéed Shrimp / Aged Sherry, and I got the Tuna special. my date liked her food, and the Tuna special (rare) was extremely good. waiter was good, the little outdoor bar was pretty cool also. if around the area, looking for a nice place to eat, this is def. worth a try. read more
