La Plancha totally satisfied our taco craving! It's a funky little spot on St Simon's with a great variety of drinks and Mexican fusion flare. I loved their complimentary salsa. Unlike regular restaurant-style salsa, it is a roasted tomato salsa, which was different and yummy. I started with the Paloma, which was a delicious blend of tequila, grapefruit juice, and club soda with a grapefruit garnish. I love their happy hour idea; they have happy hour from 3pm-5pm. When you come in, they punch a time card to show you what your drink price is. For example, if you come in at 3:00pm, your drink is only $3! For my meal, I ordered two tacos: the vegetable taco and the fish taco. I actually really enjoyed the veggie taco! It was a mixture of corn, sweet potato, zucchini, and guacamole. My only complaint was that the tortillas were really thin, which ended up in a soggy broken taco mess. However, the flavors were good so I would still go back for tacos in the future! read more

I would've given an extra 1/2 star but not perfect. The shrimp diablo was the best I've ever had minus the undercooked rice. In fact, all the rice that came out was al dente. The chips and salsa app that comes complimentary was yummy but very different from other salsas I have tried. This was almost creamy... a thicker consistency maybe cooked peppers ground up? In the taco trio the grilled chicken was the best. The ground beef tasted authentic to Mexico and the fish taco was good too. The Colombian "favorite" actually wasn't our favorite but it came out in great presentation! Once again, the rice was undercooked. The refried beans however were on point and very flavorful! The food at La Plancha is exceptional. Not just the entrees - even the side of beans has great flavor and complexity. This place really stands out. Every dish is well thought out and well prepared. And the service is attentive and top notch. La Plancha is also doing a great job with their social distancing protocols. Best margarita and very reasonably priced. We had the chicken taco's with roasted peppers. Very tasty. Peppers were grilled to perfection. A little charred with the perfect 'kick' to excite the palette. Also ordered veggie quesadilla. My party of 6 stopped in for happy hour margaritas, but they weren't running happy hour specials. That didn't stop us! I had the Sweet Hot Rita. SOOOOOOOO good! It was definitely spicy, but delicious. I love spicy margaritas and the addition of cucumber really balanced the heat. I loved it so much I had to go back the next day for another one! We also had the salsa, queso, guacamole, and fundito. My favorites were the guacamole and fundito. DELISH! The salsa was good but my hubby thought it tasted like marinara sauce. Queso was good but a little runny when we had it. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of their food and have another margarita!! I don't understand how this place can be rated 4.5 stars based on food. Our bartender was great, the guacamole really good, but the tacos are truly sub par. I mean WAY sub par. Pastor-dry. Short ribs-flavorless. Ground beef-bland. And they are pricey - $5 - $6 each and stingy portions for the price. My companion had chicken fajitas-it was OK, nothing special, but again, pricey.
