Excellent food and service. Rice and beans are insane. Presentation is unlike most Mexican places.

We've gone there for lunch twice. It's your "basic Mexican place." Nothing fancy; no food of high quality. Service was excellent one time and "just OK" the 2nd time. One notable event: a massive glob of fat served in a pork burrito. (Should one have to spit one's lunch out in a napkin?) Will we return? I suppose so. But I can tell you we will certainly not wait in a line to get in! read more

My first visit consisted of the three taco meal option with the chicken, fish and beef. Seasoning was perfect on the Mahi and Chicken. They have a braised short rib option and it was very tender. Regarding the tacos the 7 options are so much better than the typical ground beef and chunk chicken at other restaurants. My side of rice and refried beans were very good. Regarding the beans I don't know what they put into them but they were very tasty and not the usual bland side dish fare served as an afterthought in many Mexican style establishments. My wife got a basic Margarita and it was well balanced - not overpowered with tequila or lime. Sat at the bar and service was excellent. My wife and I split the very filling meal for lunch and it was enough to carry us to dinner. My second visit I had the Rolled Burrito with grilled skirt steak but there are many other filling options. It comes served in a bowl split in two with your sides. The well seasoned steak was grilled to perfection and very tender. It was a large portion and I had half left over to take home. Again, service was attentive. My lunch last Friday I was going to try out the Quesadilla but the waitress recommended the Special, chicken enchiladas, which is not on the regular menu. What a great suggestion! I've had them at other restaurants and the red sauce on top was watery and bland. The sauce here was thicker and very flavorful. The enchiladas (two) were tender as was the chicken. (Had them chewy and over-cooked in other restaurants.) Again, a big portion that combined with the sides are more than enough for a lunch or dinner meal. We also had the Queso dip and Guacamole as an appetizer for our chips which comes out in good portions for each that would easily be enough for 4. The salsa is tasty and goes well with the chips. I usually like mine spicier but my wife does not so it was a good balance. La Plancha does not have a large menu and I like that. What their menu does offer they do really well and it seems like this is the plan - and it succeeds. Like my Enchilada recommendation there are daily specials off the menu. It has a full service bar with a pretty eclectic selection of tequila for some interesting margarita choices off the drink menu. It's not a very big place but I think it fits in perfectly with the dining needs of the island and for those looking for a solid and very casual Mexican dining experience. The staff has been very attentive in my visits. I like to go to a new restaurant at least three times before I begin to form a solid opinion about quality and service. In fairness I think you have to give restaurant management an opportunity to work out the kinks with the staff and it seems some of these other negative reviews are really knee jerk type one-off experiences. La Plancha is owned by the same individual (Dave Snyder) who oversees Halyards and Tramicis, two highly rated dining establishments on St. Simons. It stands to reason that Mr. Snyder will ensure that La Plancha offers the same quality and in my experiences he hasn't disappointed. Having worked in the restaurant service industry years ago, yes, they probably have a few kinks to work out. But the food is very good, well prepared, the service was attentive in my visits and the prices were reasonable. That's all I ask for in a dining experience. When I get the feeling for good solid Mexican food in the Brunswick/St. Simons area I will be going to La Plancha. read more

Really my rating is about a 4.8 with La Plancha, some of the food we've had there is phenomenal and some had room for improvement, the best thing about this place is the bartender Rhett he is very personable and professional at the same time and delivers excellent customer service. I love that they offer authentic dishes and not the "American Mexican" food you find at most places. read more

Authentic Mexican, outstanding quality, very large portions, exceptionally clean, superb service. The beef short rib was overflowing from my taco and was the quality of a short rib I would expect a fine restaurant. The mahi taco did not fall short of this same benchmark. Amazing! Authentic little gem! Had the carnitas, carne asada, and shrimp tacos. Everything was cooked perfectly, the carnitas was so tender. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful without being hot. The beans were so good I got a side to go and one to share with a foodie friend. Service was efficient and friendly, I came for lunch so no 'ritas but I trust they won't disappoint. You really should appreciate a place that makes margaritas with fresh lime juice and simple sugar. Restaurants that make Rita"s with sour mix are a waste. My boyfriend and I were driving by last week on the way to the beach. It was a chilly day and out of spontaneity we decided to stop in for a margarita while waiting for the sun to come out. We sat at the bar and planned on getting a drink, but ended up indulging in a few margaritas, chips, and full meal! The service is excellent and so is the food. Here are some highlights: - best Mexican restaurant chips ever- thin, but not thin enough they break under the weight of salsa, and perfectly salty!! - extremely reasonable prices-- on certain days there is even a special where you can punch a timecard and the time on the card is what you pay for a margarita! My favorite margarita was the ginger-- would highly recommend!! - the Mahi quesadilla was delicious! I regret ordering only one to split with my boyfriend, as I could have easily enjoyed an entire meal to myself Next time we are on the island, we will definitely be back! read more

Was looking for something different than seafood on a rainy night on St. Simons. I saw the reviews for La Plancha here on Yelp. I did go and enjoyed it very much. Small restaurant but very quaint. Perfect. Very friendly atmosphere. The food is great. I had their Quesadilla stuffed with chicken. It was very fresh and unique. I also had their corn side dish that was fantastic! I highly recommend the corn with great flavors. The chips they bring were warm and the salsa was very good. My waitress and bartender (Gabby) was extremely helpful and fast. I love Mexican food and have ate at MANY restaurants. I highly recommend La Plancha. read more

I visited here a few days ago and the the shrimp, veggie, and fish tacos which were really good. I loved the veggie tacos which mostly consisted of sweet potatoes. I also had the black beans and rice which were decent. The margarita was good as well - not too strong but satisfying. I would likely visit again. read more

Food is good. Friendly service staff. Atmosphere is bare bones casual. Newly opened and a little disorganized in service. They make good but need a little more time to settle in. This is about my eighth visit to La Plancha. The visits prior to this one were under the old menu. The prior visits would have gotten 4 stars, only because the service was never stellar. Good tacos! I had the fish, the chicken and the steak tacos which were all cooked well and prepared beautifully. When you order 3 tacos a side of rice and beans comes with your meal. I wasn't too impressed with the rice and beans but the tacos made up for that. I also ordered a skinny margarita and the sunshine margarita. The skinny was more sour and the sunshine was more sweet (I think I preferred the sunshine over the skinny). We heard they had a good happy hour but missed it so we'll definitely be back for that! The wait staff was very kind and attentive to or party. They continued to refill our chips and salsa and kept checking on us even after our food was served which was nice. I think the bartender was having a bad day. He would barely look at us. It took forever to get to order. He never asked how we were doing. If we needed another drink or anything. I had to use cocktail napkins to eat with because we couldn't get his attention to get silverware. The lady next to me told me he seemed grumpy to her too. The food was ok but not great. I had to add sauce and then the sauce I was told was medium set my mouth and lips on fire. Oh and we had to get sauce from another waitress who happen to walk by because we just couldn't get the bartender. And this is a very small bar. Was told by someone at the barbershop that this was great Mexican and so we had high expectations. Aside for our delivery order being incorrect( could have lived with that if it had been tasty), the burritos were tasteless and very underseasoned, and both the steak and the pork( al pastor) were flavorless, grissly, and greasy. Driving by you wouldn't realize the gem that lies tucked away in this shopping center! We were greeted upon entrance by all of the employees within view which was nice. Then promptly seated, and the waitress grabbed our order right away (chips & salsa, guac, two taco platters-one with shrimp, one with steak and chicken). The chips were FRESH, like still warm and salted well. The level of flavor achieved in the salsa was a nice surprise. The guac had an excellent texture and tasted very fresh. Our food was out within 5 minutes of ordering. The waitress checked in on us often, but not too much! We also had several others who came by when she was busy and refilled our drinks or asked if we were okay. Now that's what I call teamwork! The tacos were divine!!! The steak was grilled to perfection, and the chimichurri sauce was the best I've ever had. The chicken taco was amazing as well, and my husband ate the shrimp tacos so fast that I can only imagine those were excellent too! If you drive by or walk in and see an fairly empty restaurant/parking lot, don't take that as a sign to eat elsewhere!!!! Go in, and I promise you won't be disappointed.
