Chili relleno was delicious and unlike any other I had tasted. The dining room music is too loud. Just because it is loud outside, why does it have to be loud inside? The food was all delicious. We had the steak nachos. Steak was cooked perfectly had lots of great toppings and honestly, it's big enough to sever as a meal for one person! EXPENSIVE! Their location can be confusing if you are from out of town. Not knowing the area, we were offered an introductory discount card and complimentary desert from the hotel we were staying at. (That should have been my first warning) upon arriving and walking in the room was dimly lit then shortly after they reduced the lights even more. Once the wait staff realized I had the light on my phone to see the food they got a clue. The Food: we had decided on the Cheese dip instead of the guacamole, it was tasty. However, it cooled quickly into a uneditable congealed glob. The food is good, but everything is spicy. That little card specifies spice level, but the mild is still pretty hot. Getting older, my tolerance for spice has also been weakened, so try at your own risk! My favorite was probably the queso and chorizo dip. They are good with chips, although majority of them were a little burnt, they taste great with homemade flour and corn tortillas. The crunchy cheese is the best part, which you can scrape along the sides of the cheese bowl. I didn't care for the beans since it was almost soupy for me. I like it a bit thicker and chunky. Felt like I was eating baby food. The rice was really good and fluffy! I came during lunch so I ordered the tacos especial for $12. Limited protein options, I went for the chicken. Should've known if it's an empty place- don't try it. Overpriced bougie place. Spent a $100 in a flash, now we all have stomach aches. The food tastes like plastic, you can tell most ingredients like tortillas etc are not freshly made- even the simple stuff like the beans lacks a ton of flavor. Knowing the complaint with most places now is that all food is coming from the same in big box places- this restaurant has the exact same strategy. My boyfriend and I stayed in town for New years and wanted to come here for the new years party. It wasn't terribly busy at 8pm, we were two of the three people seated at the bar with two bartenders(the whole time). We ordered drinks/aps. Sat and talked for a while before someone asked us if we wanted entrees. When we got our food we had to ask three different waiters for silverware, at that time the rice and beans was getting cold. The bartenders cleaned the bar at 9:15pm and were acting like we couldn't get more drinks let alone any acknowledgement. We also watched our server walk out the door with no goodbye or anything. around 9:30. The other bartender took a break from cleaning and asked if we wanted the check to where I had to ask if they were closing if we could get dessert. She said no and ordered the churros. After finishing we left the credit card in the tab cup out to be run up. We waited 20 min and tried to get the attention of staff so we could leave. My boyfriend had to get up and ask a random waiter if he can close us out. He seemed flustered, told the bartender to close out, she was busy, so he did it for us another five min later. Also found out that there was food specials we would have ordered if we knew about instead of advertised on the receipt. Glass of champagne was nice, food was good, dj was fun, but wished we felt more prioritized and not rushed out. I understand its a holiday, and wish we felt more of that joy from the staff. There was also another couple that came in to the bar that tried getting service and ended up leave due to the bar tender focusing on cleaning/clearing out the bar and not attending to them two hours before closing. The campechanos were delicious with crispy bits of beef. You can also order secretly some cheese to be griddled onto the tortilla ... recommend. Portions were perfect - 4 tacos in my case. I've been to this place several times, but this is the first time I've tried the steak Torta sandwich. It had a lot of flavor and the Tajin fries added to the whole plate. The only thing that I would suggest on how to offer a better experience making me want to stay and order drinks would be making the chips and a salsa part of the meal. There's a wide open dining room, high ceilings, a bar in the middle for the floor, big screen TV's, and modern decor. The music, lighting, and energy make it seem more like a lounge. In a good way! Despite the modern feel, it has many of those authentic flavors and dishes you know and love. There are ceviches, tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas but prepared with a twist that elevates their look and taste. I was really imressed when my bartender brough me a bowl of chips with four different salas on the side. The salsas included a hotter Salsa LLorona, a soy sauce flavored Salsa Toreado, a grilled tomato Salsa Lorenza, and avacado salsa verde. All were delicious, but the smokey flavored Salsa Toreado and spicy Salsa were my favorites. I sayed for some nachos and was impressed with their ingredients, preparation, and price. I happily enjoyed washing them down with my beer. After eating, I sat and surveyed the floor. Everyone was chatting, drinking, and happily enjoying their food. Mabye a little of that was due to the alcohol, maybe it was just a lively crowd, but the energy of the restaurante didn't hurt it eiter. I visited La Popular a while back when they first opened. Good first impression walking in as I always like a trendy and modern ambiance. The service was excellent. Staff was very knowledgeable and checked in on us at all the right times. The food was good but on the pricier side. We tried the Ahi Tuna Tostada as our starter. It was really small and expensive. I feel like the photo makes it look bigger than it is. Thankfully it was delicious otherwise I would've been upset lol. I liked the Campechano Taco the best, which is what the waiter recommended! I didn't like that we weren't allowed to mix and match the tacos. So we just traded one with each other. I also really liked all of the different salsas that came with the complimentary chips. La Popular. Where to start. Great outside eating area, and staff are generally amazing - especially Samuelle (sp?). Ambiance can be hit-or-miss, however. Sometimes you go and it just feels like you should be in your early-20's because you are at a club. But once or twice I went (very past tense now), and there was this AMAZING acoustic guitarist playing an amazing mix of music. He was fabulous - PLEASE bring him back. As for the food and margaritas. I have a limited experience as I don't eat pork/beef/lamb, but their house salad + chicken is awesome, aguachile is awesome, as as the ahi tuna tosadas (but could go lighter on the aioli [I ask for it on the side]). LP Margarita is solid, as is the non-alcoholic pineapple drink (I add a shot of rum to it). If you are in the area, give it a try. BUT MANAGERS PLEASE BRING BACK THE GUITARIST. As far as upscale Mexican food is concerned, "La Popular - Roseville" ranks high (among customers) when you factor in the ambiance, food quality, atmosphere, service, and design aesthetics. The restaurant itself opened during the fall of 2022 and has had very a very strong social media presence; predominantly Instagram and TikTok. Located directly at the corner of E. Roseville Pkwy. and Gibson Dr., the restaurant itself neighbors its sister restaurant, "Eureka" and across from "Lazy Dog". I made reservations exclusively through their website a few days in advance for Saturday 7/8/2023 at 5:30pm. As far as the parking, it can get very busy (as this place shares the two other restaurants I mentioned) which can be a bit of a challenge. As far as the design and layout, this place is as good as it gets. A huge upscale and progressive interior with TV's, a full bar, ample seating area, and large windows. The outside dining is also very impressive with live plants, comfortable seating, cushioned sofas, and a great overall vibe. After I checked in while giving the hostess our reservation information, my +1 and I were immediately seated. Our server, Madilyn was very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Since it was my first time dining here, she even told us a brief overview of the restaurant as well as the training every employee goes through. But service was top notch on every level. Already a good sign since a Saturday evening is arguably their busiest time. Since the weather was a beautiful (and unusually cool) 80° day, we took full advantage of the outdoor patio feel. This place does get loud but not to a point where you are shouting on the top of your lungs. There is background music playing which adds to the overall feel to this place. Once getting comfortably seated, we were given iced waters (with a carafe), two menus, and complimentary chips with four types of salsas. From spiciest/hottest to the mildest, here is a rundown of the salsas. "Llorona" (spicy pickled habanero, serrano peppers, w/lime), "Toreado" (roasted serrano peppers, soy sauce, sesame oil, & orange juice), "Lorenza" (grilled tomatoes, onions, serrano chili, & jalapeño peppers), and finally "Salsa Verde" (tomatillo, onions, serrano chili, and avocados). After sampling all four of these, I was very impressed that they were able to give the customers such a diverse selection and variety. As far as our main entrees, I went with an order of their "Ribeye Tacos" (for $16). This was a set of (2) complete with their housemade corn tortillas, avocado, and charred tomatillo salsa. My +1 went with their "Carnitas Tacos" (for $15) which were a mix of confit pork belly & ribs complete with pickled red onions and guacamole. We both opted for the side of Mexican rice and refried beans for an additional $2 charge. To drink, I went with their "Baja Brewing Por Favor IPA" while she went with a "Mint Mojito". This place offers a very extensive selection of tequilas imported from Mexico as well as Mezcal, Cerveza, Vino, and spirit drinks. As far as the service goes, they were fast. Our server was very attentive and made sure if there was anything else we needed. Our drinks arrived within 5 minutes while both our entrees came out in less than 10 minutes. The presentation of these tacos were above average but not over the top amazing. I enjoyed the housemade tortillas (as it had a thicker texture to it) but aside from the ribeye, sliced avocado, a dash of cilantro, and tomatillo salsa and a lime wedge (on the side), that was about all that came with it. No onions, radishes, or other options. The taste was good and filling but a little on the pricey side for what you get. There has been quite a bit of mixed opinions on this place. For me, it definitely was a 4 out of 5 stars as the trendy, sleek look will grab the attention of many. I prefer the more hole-in-the-wall Mexican places but that is just me. With that said and done, "La Popular" is a warm welcome to the city of Roseville. As of mid-2023, they do have three other locations in the United States; Claremont (an area of Los Angeles), Las Vegas, NV, and Austin, TX. read more

I really wanted to like this place as plenty of my friends do. However my experience was not great. Came here for a work lunch and got house salad with steak - $9 for a sad amount of chewy inedible rough beef. For their credit they actually remade it for me - the steak was slightly better, edible, but still not great. At least I didn't leave with an empty stomach. Last time I was here I had a good impression- a few appetizers weren't bad and the queso fundido was delicious. But it's almost impossible to mess up guacamole and queso fundido. The jury is out there - I might try it again but I will never order this house salad with steak no more. Service was a bit slow and mediocre at best. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious and the way they're presented was nice with the variety of salsas. The chips and salsa were yummy. We shared the queso fundido appetizer which had chorizo in the cheese and omg it's soooo good, you'll want to put on anything once you run out of chips. I ordered the ribye tacos costra style and my friend ordered the carnitas tacos costra style. We swapped a taco to try one of each. The costra style is cheese grilled encrusted onto the tortillas of the tacos sorta like how quesobirria tortillas are served. Both tacos were yummy and the carnitas had a good serving of meat too. I ordered a separate side of beans of rice which, I couldn't finish. The Spanish or red rice was good which it's hard to make a good Spanish rice and the beans were good too. We shared the churros for dessert and they were delicious and freshly made. They were pretty close to real churros and they're served with I think ot was chocolate and I think caramel sauces? I was very much looking forward to trying this new restaurant, an offshoot of one in Mexico City, now with branches opening up here in the US. What I was hoping for most was some authentic Mexican cuisine, not the typical stuff we have here in the US, as I have had some incredible old world style Mexican dishes in Mexico City not usually found here, including mole. Unfortunately, I found the menu to be ordinary and missed the mark. It seems like the usual US menu without burritos. They have mole, but it was not available. The interior and atmosphere is stunning- contemporary, upbeat and trendy. It's very comfortable and large with cozy booths and a large bar for dining as well. Service was wonderful. Our server was so friendly, courteous, and efficient. I was very impressed as she answered each question with a cheery smile and was extremely fun, making the experience quite nice. She obviously enjoyed her job and making the meal pleasant. We started with LP Margaritas that were quite good, in a very unique yet comfortable glass... not the typical Margarita glass available everywhere. The salt was only on one part of the edge and down the side of the glass for a ways. As in many upscale Mexican restaurants they carry a vast array of tequila and mezcal choices. It must be the profit money maker. Chips and salsa where brought to the table right away and was the highlight of the meal. They have four types of salsa presented in various degrees of heat. I liked them all. Very creative and delicious. A small card describes each one. The one with the most heat is a bit different as the components aren't as finely chopped and the sauce is a bit watery as opposed to thick. Difficult to spoon and eat, yet quite delicious. I ordered the carne asada salad and frankly it looked beautiful, but was a letdown. Everything was fresh but not much flavor and the dressing, although well tossed, was really bland and liquidy, like a limp ranch style. The meat was just OK but not very high quality. Overall, disappointing. I was expected far more interesting meld of flavors and ingredients but nothing more than I could get at Applebees or another like chain restaurant. I tried a bit of a dining companion's enchilada (blancas) and found it equally uninteresting and bland. Anyway, I would go back, hopefully for the mole but this visit didn't leave the best impression. I think it could be more, so another chance is warranted. read more

Our hostess seated us immediately and our cheerful and helpful waitress by the name of Ruby was very attentive to our every need. As I stated previously our food was nothing short of amazing.
