We have been going to La Porta since they opened. It's always good and standard pizzas and pastas. The wait for a table is usually 30 minutes to an hour during the weekends especially during the spring/summer months. We went a couple of Fridays ago and it was an hour wait for a table of 5. They don't take reservations. We got 2 pizzas, a Caesar salad, chicken parmigiana, and shrimp fra diavolo. Everything was delicious! We ordered beers, wine, and a tequila drink from the bar and everyone was happy with their drinks too. Portions of food are ok but don't expect leftovers. I ordered a to go order for my teenage son of fettuccine Alfredo and he thought I ordered him a kid's meal. For $22.99 he couldn't believe how small it was. There was live music and it was great too! It wasn't too loud so you can't have a conversation but it was nice to hear while eating. My only critique is that service can sometimes be a little slow/inconsistent. Prices are reasonable. Went last evening for dinner and ordered eggplant parmigiana. It came with spaghetti which had a flavorless sauce. The eggplant was so thin and had no flavor. Very disappointed. I would not call this a classic Italian restaurant. We ordered 2 different pizzas , again sauce needs some work. Had the opportunity to visit La Porta on a Sunday after seeing a show in town. Fabulous experience! Our server, Carley, was outstanding. She was extremely helpful, kind, and attentive. She recommended the Bolognese for a friend, who said it was the best he's ever had! We also had the chicken Parm, which was terrific along with the amazing al dente pasta. Came here for dinner with my friend for the first time. First off I love the town it's in a block away from the water and boats. I love the outdoor seating area and open doors of the restaurant. We really felt like we were eating in Italy. The food was delicious. We got salads, mozzarella and tomato, and risotto balls. The meatballs were incredible. The mushroom pizza was sooo delicious. I loved the branzino dish as well. My friend got the pesto gnocchi and it was perfectly cooked and the pesto sauce was delicious. The servers were super helpful and the owner was in as well which I love to see. The drinks and dessert were also really good. I loved the Sicilian mule! I have been coming to La Porta since they did the renovation last year and it's our favorite pizza. I have yet to dine in but to go wise, I love the food. I have probably ordered here 25 times and it's the best artisan pizza around, very different than a typical ny slice but great for ordering a personal pie for 2. Beautiful new interior, spacious, sturdy and clean tables and very friendly service. We split the "Carmine" pizza and it was so good, the cupped pepperonis, the hot honey, the char at the bottom. No flop. 8.2 for my rating. The big mozz sticks were also good, not crazy good but okay, and the serving of Vodka Sauce and Marinara is a flawessly welcomed touch. I also really like the Cesar. The restaurant features authentic Neapolitan pizza made in their brick oven that they got imported straight from Italy. They also offer great appetizers, classic Italian dishes, and a full bar with handcrafted cocktails. Also, do not skip on their dessert including their pistachio ice cream, pistachio cheesecake, and classic tiramisu. We absolutely loved every bite and sip from this meal. Went to La Porta on Friday night... new restaurant that opened in July on Main Street in Northport. It was a busy night but we were able to sit right down. Beautiful restaurant with a solid menu. We started off with a bottle of wine (they do not have their full liquor license yet but they're working on it. Only beer and wine available). We ordered the mozzarella sticks which was served with both vodka sauce and marinara. I was underwhelmed by these so I would choose a different appetizer to start. The entrees were incredible though! I had chicken parm and opted for rigatoni on the side. You can tell the pasta is fresh and the sauce is fabulous. My friend has the rigatoni with broccoli rabe and sausage. Also incredible. We ended the night with a tartufo dessert which was delicious. My only negative besides the mozzarella sticks being underwhelming was the fact that we wanted to order a pizza but opted out because the chef making them had a HUGE beard and no hair net on it and we were completely turned off by that. The pizza area is open so you can see them cooking the pizza and we were very surprised to see him cooking with such a long, bushy beard with no hair net. Came in pretty late on a Tues night. Place was almost empty which was unusual, since this place is always busy. Ordered a beer and a pizza. 'Vongole Bianca' I believe it was called. Tried La Porta Pizza for the first time last week and had a mixed experience. We had 7:30 reservations for our friend's birthday, unfortunately we had to wait over an hour to be sat. They were very nice and offered us a complimentary beverage, but we still had to wait until 8:30 to get a table and half our party didn't drink. When we did get sat nobody gave us menus and the waitress didn't check on us for another 10 minutes. The food was good, the pizza was large enough for one person and to have a couple slices for leftovers or good to split if you were also getting an app. The food didn't come out that fast but its brick oven pizza so I understand the wait. We probably didn't eat until 9:15 which was okay, but had we been hungrier we wouldn't have been happy. They did do a nice cake with a candle for our friends birthday. Because we had a larger party, we called the restaurant in advance and asked them if they could accommodate a party of ten people (including one high chair) for a 5 pm dinner. They said they could, and assured us that we had a reservation. When we arrived promptly at 5pm, they told us they don't take reservations and they would try to seat us in about 30 minutes, and they confirmed we would have a high chair. When i say "they" i am referring to the hostess. After waiting 40 minutes, we were finally brought in to be seated, but we watched the high chair that was reserved for us given to another table. We asked to speak to the manager (George) who didn't seem to care at all about our issue and offered no resolution. Normally, i would have walked out of this place right then and there, but we had hungry kids with us and our options were limited. During our meal, no one (the hostess or the manager) ever came over to the table to check in on us . This restaurant was one of the the worst experiences we ever had. The food was just mediocre, and the waiter was actually good. I would not recommend ever going to this place because they don't care about you at all and are not honorable. read more

Even though La Porta seems to be able to illicit a reaction drawing people in with a charming aesthetic, they are the touch stone for the expression - beauty is only skin deep. Be good at what you put yourself out as ... an Italian restaurant. Be successful at the basics... take an order, make the order as taken, bring it out in time, make it well, and be attentive. These are challenges here. Particularly in the making what was ordered and making well.... So inconsistent in the execution. The bolognese sauce seldom tastes the same, and they under sauce without fail making the pasta so dry. See the picture of the Nonna's... it was a to go order. I asked for the sauce on the side, just to prove the point of how under sauced it will make the dish that little tiny cup is what they gave me for sauce on the side. Needless to say not enough sauce.. the Bolognese was off again tonight. Not bad just inconsistent.. order the New Yorker pizza. It was very good..That's what we ate instead of the pastas. Additionally, we put the order in over the phone but when we went to pick it up, the order had not been placed so we had to wait about 20 minutes. To apologize to us for our trouble they offered us 20% off, which was very nice. They rang the bill up and explained to what was supposed to be $69 but only charged us $65 with our 20% discount.... At this point, I'm not arguing about the math. I'm just not coming back. They just seem spread thin... a mile wide and an inch deep. Failed at the basics... Popped by La Porta for a casual dinner and had an awesome experience. We started with the mini risotto balls, which were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, paired with their amazing marinara sauce that really brought it all together. For the main course, I went with the Lucas Branzino -- pan-seared and served on a bed of risotto and spinach in a white wine butter sauce. It was so good, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the risotto was creamy and flavorful. Definitely a standout dish. And for dessert, the Affogato. It was made with real Italian ingredients, espresso, gelato with a little Kahlúa. It was the perfect sweet balance. To top it all off, I had a slice of the pistachio cheesecake, which was creamy and not too sweet. Perfectly rich and the perfect way to end the meal. Six of us enjoyed this restaurant before the Northport theatre. We tried different chicken dishes and were all very happy! Chicken parm, chicken piccata, chicken Marsala etc. all excellent. The waitress was also very good and steered us toward the budget friendly wine bottle purchase instead of 3 separate glasses of the same wine. Newish, family-owned and good for gluten-free! La Porta opened less than a year ago, replacing a nasty, filthy pizza takeout place. It's been upgraded a ton, and serves traditional Italian-American fare, wood-fired pizza, and a full bar, including some Long Island microbrews. They have gluten-free pizza crust, gluten-free penne, and a special gluten-free entree, Chicken Leonard, which I thoroughly enjoyed. No ill effects. Service is attentive without being intrusive. Prices are pretty good for the Northport waterfront, with a meal running $25-$35 per person, not including alcohol. My girlfriend had the Chicken Parm and loved it! We walked over here from the brewery across the street on a whim and thank goodness we did. This was one of our favorite dining experiences on Main Street in Northport. It looks like maybe they reopened/rebranded a few months ago. The place is gorgeous, very modern. The windows were all open since it was a beautiful day out (there is some outdoor seating). We started with these jumbo mozzarella sticks - the mozzarella sticks themselves were good (fantastic cheese pull, as pictured) but the vodka sauce it came with was amazing. All of or food was great. Two of us split a pizza and a pasta and there were plenty of leftovers. There's so much more on the menu we want to try, we will definitely be back. read more

Disappointing experience with the front-of-house waitlist management tonight. We checked in at **6:00 PM** and were initially told the wait would be about **45 minutes**, which was reasonable. At **7:00 PM**, Tessa told us that she *expected our table to be ready* and asked us to give her just a few more minutes. She even pointed out the table that she believed would be ours, so we continued waiting. By **7:40 PM**, we still had not been seated, so I went back to ask what happened to our table. At that point, she explained that the table she had pointed to was split into two smaller tables for other individuals who were seated ahead of us on the waitlist. While I understand how dynamic restaurant seating can be, this was very frustrating given what we were previously told and shown. She even seated a table a little larger than ours that came after us before us. Who does that? After the promise a table would be ready in a few minutes. She actually sat a table bigger than mine and they arrived after me. I am not sure I understand how that happens. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told one was not available. Tessa insisted she had done everything she could and emphasized that she's been doing this for quite some time. Unfortunately, the unclear communication, lack of accountability, and no management support made this a frustrating experience. Clear and realistic expectations around wait times would have made a big deal. I finally was able to speak to a manager. Who was very reasonable and understood what happened. I was in the mood for something cozy and La Porta definitely hit the spot. Started with the homemade gnocchi in vodka sauce and it was amazing. The gnocchi was soft, just the right amount of richness, and the sauce had a perfect balance of creaminess and flavor. One visit I called in an order and it was completely messed up. An attempted second visit last night, I put my name in for a seat for 2. The young girl/hostess about 30 minutes and that they would text me. After 25 minutes, she said try in 10 minutes. After an hour of waiting, no call/message back. Hostess seemed more interested in talking with her friends. We ended up getting a table right away at the Northport Hotel with a delicious dinner. I'm sorry to post such a negative review but it is what it is. The food was decent to good (but not great) so there is hope. It was the service which was ...well hard to comment on service when there was none. Multiple young waiters were standing around starting at their phones, hanging out and talking to each other and ignoring the customers--most importantly us. I had to track someone down for everything we wanted: Parmesan cheese, soda refill, to go box, the check, picking up the check when I wanted to pay. It was as if I was interrupting their hang out sesh. There were large plates at our place setting when we arrived. When they brought over our food on other plates, they just left the EIGHT large empty plates on our table, taking up all of this room. We pushed them out of the way but one would think you may want to remove them if they are not in use. EIGHT LARGE EMPTYL PLATES at our table. The one person who was working hard was an older woman who was the hostess, cleaning up, doing take out orders. Give her a raise, hire some attentive waitstaff, and can these lazy reluctant participants in your restaurant. Lastly on the food, two of us ordered calzones which came out literally ten minutes after the other peoples' food. So I guess they take longer but maybe something they can fix. read more
