Not sure what the hype is over this place. The breakfast tacos were mediocre at best. The potato and egg had zero flavor and the potatoes were undercooked. Chorizo was dry and crumbly. Bean and cheese was oversalted and had too much American cheese. And the pancakes were a mix, tasted processed - they were also overcooked. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

This is my favorite place for migas in Austin. And I'm really picky about migas! I order the migas with queso and corn tortillas. The tortillas are absolutely delicious and homemade. The waitstaff is very nice and efficient. I would give the restaurant five stars, but I had their cheese enchiladas once and did not care for them at all. They were very greasy and way too cheesy-- yes, cheese enchiladas CAN be too cheesy. It's a thing. But for breakfast? This is my absolute favorite. We LOVE this restaurant. We are regular customers for 20 years. My wife's favorite meal is the Caldo de Pollo. She calls it "a party for your mouth". The Avacado Rellano is high on my list. Great drinks, foods, and desserts. We love the staff and have had consistently great service. read more

I was here with a group of 7 people. All aged 20s/30s fresh off the greenbelt. We had been drinking but weren't belligerent. The table beside us (with a couple kids) made a snarky comment and unfortunately someone at my table escalated the conversation and it got pretty nasty. Management took care of the table next to us. During all of this, NONE of the staff was rude or pushy to us. I really appreciate how well they handled the situation. There were definitely @$$#0|3$ on both sides of the conversation. I ate at La Posada this evening after checking Yelp reviews and seeing the 4 star rating. Boy, did I have a different experience! First of all, the noise level was outrageous. Then, they served the hot sauce and chips. (I have a rule of thumb when it comes to Mexican restaurants: if the salsa looks like ketchup, you're in for an unpleasant meal. Boy, did that rule ring true tonight!) I ordered puffy tacos after reading a couple of reviews recommending them. The menu claimed "shredded" chicken, but when the dish was served I found weird clumps of solid, boiled, dark meat chicken, no shredding at all. It was really unappetizing and not very tasty. The rice and beans were good, but that's not much when rest of the experience was so negative. At least it wasn't a budget buster... read more

If your looking for mariachis and ladies making tortillas up front don't come here and ruin it for the rest of us. I had the carnitas great taste, authentic Tex mex. Great service & food in a casual neighborhood spot. Dinner for 3 with margaritas was $32. Chimichangas were great & service was even better. We were half way through our chips and it was immediately refilled as was water. I will defiantly be back. The coffee sucked like liquid charcoal, the salsa tasted like peppery tomatoes, they stop serving breakfast early, which shouldn't happen in any self respecting taqueria, and they put gravy on tamales. NOTE: Because this restaurant is near my home, I am using the star system to compare it to 'like restaurants' in the area. If I was comparing the restaurant to the entire city I would have given it only 3 stars. I had seen this Mexican restaurant in the old strip mall across the street from Westgate Lanes many times, and yet we never stopped in to try it until I read a few reviews on Yelp. Thanks Yelpers for turning me on to this new spot! We did not have a wait- although when we left I noticed that there was a somewhat chaotic wait list with a bunch of people hanging out near the cash register. We ordered frozen margaritas, and were happy to find that they suited our palet- and even happier to note that they were cheaper than our nearby haunt, Casa Garcia's. We also ordered the chili con queso, which I liked, but it's not for everyone. It's more Velveeta-like than most tend to enjoy. I like any kind of cheese personally. I had the Shrimp al a Mexicana- the shrimp were fresh and big. The price was very reasonable, much less expensive than Casa Garcia's. The flour tortillas were prepared fresh (at least that is what the server told me and they tasted home made- but I did not see a tortialla maker personally). My husband was impressed with his enchilada entree as well. We will certainly be giving this place a second shot- and hopefully it will be just as good and become a regular dining option down south. read more

Oh, I'm sorry La Posada, did I inconvenience you by ordering my breakfast over the phone for pick-up? It sure did sound like it in your tone Miss Cashier. Really nice too, how you hung up right after telling me the total of the order and not ending the telephone call with a simple "goodbye" or "thanks" or "your order will be ready in 15 minutes." Oddly enough, it was ME who was inconvenienced when you forgot my bacon last weekend... and all you could offer me was to come back and PICK-UP said bacon, or PICK-UP a refund. Either way I'd have to go back, all because your cashier was too lazy to check the bag to make sure it was all there (as relayed by the manager as the cashier's responsibility). How does that "make up" for your mistake? Pointing fingers and ultimately causing MORE inconvenience to the CUSTOMER is NOT how you "make it up" to someone you want to come back and bring you more business. Fortunately, your food is nothing to brag about. Although kinda too bad, because I could skip to your restaurant from my house. But I prefer to skip merrily and your service is anything but merry. The only reason we're going back now is because YOU OWE ME BACON! I don't understand how this is so highly rated, which make me sad because I root for the non-chain-mom-and-pop places. My girl and I came here for lunch, service was superrrr slow, waitress was (when she did come over) unwelcoming. I ordered the tilapia and shrimp- ughhhh! The shrimp was underdone and the fish was completely flavorless, hard as a nail, dry and not even the carrots or rice with it tasted right. I was actually nervous I was going to get food poisoning :-/ Redeeming things: my friends burrito was edible and we did not get charged the $1 chip refill (which is all I ended up eating). Love this place! Their rice and tortillas are so good! Enchiladas are great, the breakfast platters are so good... Salsa is really good too (and actually has some good heat to it!). we almost forgot about this great place. it was another sunday. wife wanted her menudo or chinese food. we'd had asian food twice on saturday so... mexican it was. the dude just didn't feel like driving too far. we were going to sam's/bestbuy so he tried to get her to serranos. we checked the menu online using iphone in the parking lot and their soup selection just wasn't gonna be good enough for the wife. then I remembered this place that used to be a weekly eat for us when we lived in oak hill. I don't think we ever left unsatisfied... so now that we've tried most every other tex-mex joint in the area, it was time for a revisit. wife had her soup fix with the caldo de res. they also offer a menudo and a seafood soup but I remembered the caldo de res was always a big hit with her. it was another home run! BIG steamy bowl with chunks of animal and corn on the cob, potatoes ... she was happy. they dude got his regular, shrimp mexicana with chipotle ($10.95). it was FAN-tas-tic. huge shrimp that were not over cooked in a smoky spicy chipotle sauce and grilled onions... kids split an enchilada plate with a puffy taco and they were happy. salsa is spicy and just OK, it's good enough, chips are good enough. beans and rice are tasty. I should also note that this place also has cheap beer. I didn't have any adult beverage on this visit but I recall it was a regular indulgence when we ate there more often. read more

One of the great Mexican food dives around. The place is small, in a shopping center off of Westgate. The salsa is off the Hook! Gimme a spoon and a bowl of that stuff! Like everyone has mentioned before the puffy tacos are the s**t in all of their greasy goodness (yummy). And yes some of their dishes are so-so but all in all a very tasty offering. I went there around 10 ish, but wanted a lunch special which starts at 11:00. They refused to serve me the lunch special, but said I can anything on the dinner menu. For double the price?? I have been here a ton of times. Love going here when I don't want to wait long or deal with a packed restaurant. Portions are good on all the plates. Try the Stuffed Avocado, mole enchiladas, or one of the combos on the back page. My favorite is the Combo #5 with Two Beef Fajitas, Beef Crispy Taco, Pork Tamale, Cheese Enchilada, rice, beans, and guacamole salad. Waitstaff is usually on point and really friendly. (there was a 45 minute to an hour wait) So we packed the kids back into the cars and headed to La Posada on William Cannon. I have to say that this is a little gem hidden in a shopping center. Recently moved here from El Paso and haven't been able to find the real authentic Mexican food like back home. This place was on point! I was torn between the ladies special and their green/white cheese so the awesome waitress allowed me to have the best off both worlds...I got the ladies special but with enchiladas I wanted to try. The green sauce was delicious!!! My son and husband let me try their plate so I tried the rice and beans( I always say that is the best way to determine a good Mexican restaurant is by their beans and rice) well needless to say they were excellent! Staff was awesome, our server was very attentive and the Dos X on tap was cold. What more could you ask for? My son loved the tortillas and husband loved the salsa. Our meal for 4 people and 4 beers was just at $50. Try it you won't be disappointed. read more

This is my neighborhood Mexican stop, and I feel like its slightly above average as far as the food is concerned. It never seems to be overly crowded and the service is always friendly. I would love to see a little more flavor in the dishes (and the salsa), as well as some local beers on the menu. This is one of my favorite Tex-Mex places in Austin. It's a little hole in the wall in South Austin, but the service is fabulous and the food is very good. I have to admit that what sets this place apart from others are their margaritas. I am very picky about margaritas- I don't like them too syrupy and sweet. I also like them strong and smooth. La Posada has them down to an art- they are the best! I usually get queso and the Para Las Damas plate which comes with 2 enchiladas, a puffy taco, and guacamole salad for around $7. I do change the enchilada sauce for green sauce and the cheese for white cheese. Delish!! I've also had the shrimp, and my boyfriend loves the catfish. I wouldn't recommend the stuffed avocados or sweet mole. read more

This wonderful little local spot in South Austin is a must eat spot. It is located in a small strip mall off of Westgate and William Cannon. As soon as you walk in you are taken back to a simpler home style Mexican diner. The staff are like long lost aunts, uncles, and cousins that make you feel at home and loved. The menu is straight forward and to the point. As for the food, you can't ask for anything better. The food is tasty and savory just like mom and grandma used to make. As you can see, La Posada is the restaurant your family should have opened but didn't open. Thank goodness La Posada is literally around the corner from my house!
