Will NEVER be back to this awful place! We went here on a Friday night when it was packed which was a mistake. We seated ourselves and waited for a waiter to come by. Well 10 minutes go by and nobody came to our table to serve us and I thought well maybe we had to wait to be seated. So finally our waitress came by and took our drink order and said she'd be back with chips and salsa. Took about another 5 or so minutes. The chips and salsa were OK. Nothing special and I have had worse. So finally we placed our order and waited and waited and waited. It took 40 or so minutes for our order to come. They kept bringing us chips and salsa and we pretty much got full off our drinks, chips, and salsa. So finally I made the decision if they don't come in 5 minutes I was leaving. So 5 minutes go by and nothing. So I said let's go but wouldn't you know just as we were getting up to leave our food finally comes after waiting 40 minutes and maybe even an hour. I order the 3 beef enchiladas and bleh. I don't know which was worst the enchiladas there or those awful chicken fajita enchiladas at that one place over on Manchaca and William cannon. The cheese tasted like rubber and the meat had no taste. I could only stomach to eat one and a half enchilada and I didn't want it anymore. The food and the service sucked! Wasted my money and heck I could have just went to El Borrego and had my meal within 15 minutes and been out in under an hour. I don't hold them being extremely busy against them but at least the food could have been edible. I truly don't understand all the good reviews on this place and I don't care to lol. One thing's for sure I won't be back. read more

The food here is good, but the service is horrible. The place is never packed but yet they seem overwhelmed. When we asked for a drink menu we were told it would take a couple of minutes. For a menu?? And seriously when someone does come to table to take a drink order... have your good order ready because you won't see that server again for a while. read more

Tex Mex doesn't get any better than this. They have cheesy enchiladas, fresh Mexican rice, refried beans, and cold frosty margaritas. Their staff is super friendly but they are not annoying or pushy. They ask for your order, bring it to you and followup when you need refills on drinks. The bottomless chips are always hot and the salsa is spicy and fresh. On my numerous visits I have tried their carne asada, chimichanga, grilled chicken breast-- and I have always come home full and happy. I dream about their chile corn carne beef enchiladas--they are always piping hot and the sauce is like no other!! Order extra flour tortillas- they are homemade! Bring the family for good tex-mex at a price that will not break your wallet. On my last visit I noticed that they had expanded their restaurant and I was wondering if the expansion was going to hurt their service and the quality of their food. We usually go here on Tuesdays for awesome margaritas and our favorite waitress, Mel. We went on a Sunday night and Mel was off so we had Rojelio (you might have to ask for Roger if you don't speak Spanish well). We have been here before with Rojelio waiting tables as a newbie. He was very sweet then, and he's still very sweet. It was Sunday night and they were really very busy. Rojelio was attentive and accommodating. There were two in our party and we both had specific requests as far as subbing goes. He came back to the table once to clarify my order and it came out perfectly. I really love this place and Rojelio just confirmed that this place is a hidden gem in South Austin. So, if you go here, ask for Rojelio or Mel..both will treat you like royalty, the drinks are hard to beat, and the food is above average. It's worth your time! read more

Finally ate here last night after passing by it thousands of times like everyone else. We were very pleasantly surprised, this is some really good tex-mex. The chile con queso is good, not my favorite in town or the most flavorful, but it does a queso lover right. My wife and I both had combo meals, hers came with a crispy taco, a chalupa and 2 cheese enchiladas. All were excellent. I had the #3 which came with a puffy taco, which was delicious and a great surprise to see on a menu, 2 delicious tamales smothered in sauce and cheese, and a chalupa. I really like the chalupas, perfect amount of beans & toppings so it stayed crispy & didn't get soggy. The top shelf margaritas are yummy but not my favorite in town either. We'll definitely be back, the specials look great, including cabrito and cochinita pibil. read more

We used to live about five minutes away from La Posada, and since we've moved, I'm still looking for my new go-to tex-mex place. We had their migas or huevos a la mexicana just about every weekend for three years, and believe me, I miss them. It's a family-run place, and the service was always friendly and prompt. They also don't skimp on the alcohol in their margaritas. It's definitely a different vibe than a place like Chuy's or Guero's, but to me, that's a good thing. I don't think I was ever charged extra for chips, although they do have a sign that says they charge. read more

People, if you live in this neighborhood and you love Mexican food and you love margaritas, then look no further. My hubby and I have been coming here for 8 years. It's a wonderful family owned restaurant with folks who understand that amazing service breeds more business. They also make the strongest margaritas in any South Austin restaurant - you can drink more than 2, but I really wouldn't advise it. Oh - La Posada - thank you for being there on all of those "date nights" and seeing us through a pregnancy and one crazy 3 year old who loves grilled cheese, and even the low carb diet when I ordered the Steak a la Mexicana without rice and beans. Okay here it goes. I have tried several of their dishes and the only dish that I recommend and eat over and over again is the "Chicken Verde", which consists of a chicken breast covered with white Monterrey jack cheese and slices of avocado. It is the best ever. Their rice and beans are good, not delicious but good, even though the beans are kind of runny, Once everything is mixed together and eaten, it is a great dish. Monday thru Friday you can get this dish for a few dollars less during their lunch hours. This is the only dish that I would ever recommend to my family and friends. The wait staff is always friendly..Try to go there at least once a week for this dish only. So the 4 stars is for this one dish only. read more

Solid tex-mex. I pride myself on being a cheese enchilada conniseur, and La Posada has some of the best. The difference is in the gravy they use. It's hard to describe, but it adds an almost "sweet" flavor to the mix. Very delicious. The wait staff is also very friendly. Recommend. read more

Ah, La Posada. I wanted it to be so much better than it was. You know? That nice little puffy taco picture in the community newspaper got me going to this place I've seen a million times. I had dismissed it as one of so many shopping center blah restaurants. Unfortunately, I must report that it was pretty much all that. The atmosphere is actually nice - low lighting creates a comfortable mood. Lots of folks in there enjoying margaritas and mex. Walked in feeling a good vibe. But I must agree with the yelpers who expressed disappointment. The food was really bland - just no spark whatsoever. The chicken mole was the most uneventful mole I've ever had - no kick, no complexity. The chicken was kind of rubbery, lacked flavor. The basic tamale, taco, cheese enchilada - all of it was just lacking any real spark. It's not that I'm a big fan of spicy-hot, either. I wished there had been more flavor - ANY flavor. So, I conclude that La Familia down Wm Cannon is better, though the atmosphere could learn a lot from Posada's. El Meson is so much worth the extra 10-15 minute drive. read more

I live in S Austin and used to frequent La Posada at Westgate every couple of weeks or so. It was right around the corner so I enjoyed the close proximity. The food was adequate but the marqueritas were great so it was fun to go with a friend now & then. We always treated the wait staff with respect and were very good tippers so when we started noticing the nasty attitude of two of the wait staff we could not figure it out. Every time we came they were very rude and practically slammed the food down on the table. No smiles, just frowns. I can understand one wait person maybe having a bad day but two? They were not even busy at the times we were treated so rudely. Never have I been forced to say something at a restaurant about the service before. It kept happening over & over again. I still dont understand it. But I do know they lost some good customers as who wants to go out to eat and be treated like a piece of dirt? read more

I used to live around the corner from this restaurant and visited quite often. The atmosphere was not much to speak of, but the service was pleasant and the food was good. I hadn't been in a while, and I decided to visit with my fiance last night (a Sunday evening). What a disappointment. The food was still okay, not great, but the service was lousy. My fiance ordered the fajitas; the waiter brought them to our table and dropped them. That's forgiveable, and the young boy who dropped it was very sweet about it, but we then had to ask that the tortillas and cheese that fell on the floor be replaced. The tortillas showed up, but the cheese did not. Our drinks were never refilled (my fiance ended up having to finish off my drink because his was completely empty) and we were essentially ignored from this point on. Meanwhile, the staff was hanging out in the back of the restaurant chatting and making fun of the drunk "gringo" customer who was hanging out with them. The final straw was that when we checked out, the cashier was absolutely stony faced and did not thank us for visiting, much less wish us a good evening or any other such courtesy. Our realtor took us to eat here when we bought a house in the neighborhood. It was fabulous and very gay-friendly (the owners are partners). After a few weeks, we decided to go eat there because we'd had such a great experience the first time. I ordered the chicken flautas and my partner ordered grilled chicken. We left very satisfied---until the wee hours of the next morning when I woke up with terrible stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. I took an Imodium and hoped for the best. Twelve hours later I had to go to the ER because I could not keep anything down; I had a fever of 104 with severe diarrhea, cramping and vomiting. The MD who treated me asked if I had just returned home from a foreign country. I told him we hadn't but that we had had lunch at LP the day before. He said I had the worst case of dysentery he had ever treated. I had to stay in the hospital for two days so that they could monitor my well-being and also pump me with IV fluids. Obviously, someone in food prep at the restaurant did not wash their hands when he/she went to the bathroom (gross!). We never went back to eat there again. Be warned! They got 2 stars from me because the first time we were there--the food was excellent. read more
