I had an early tee time on one of the hottest days of the year and I was almost late. My friends and I made up of a threesome with a single joining our group. The staff was very helpful in getting me quickly to the tee box which I appreciated. My play was a little scrappy in the beginning but it took me a few holes to get used to the course. Overall the course was in mediocre condition specifically the fairways were tight and thin, and the greens were very scrappy and bumpy. There also were many dead/brown spots on almost all the greens. The course itself had a few scenic holes that played against the mountainside. For the price, I was not too surprised at the condition of the course. I could not find the Dunes course here so my review for it will go here. In the afternoon I played the Dunes course which was a flatter Pete Dye course running side by side to the Mountain course. Unfortunately the course was also in the same condition of the Mountain course. The only problem was the 120 degree F weather I had to contend with. I honestly lasted 16 holes before succumbing to the heat on the last two holes. In all honesty, I will probably spend more time on the three PGA West courses about 10 minutes further south, before considering these courses. Also the prices did match the quality of these courses. read more

I booked this course for three people and was extremely excited.... First off we where informed after we tee off that the course is cart path only, which typically would be ok but 2 of our golfers have leg and knee injuries. This course requires a lot of walking ! So would have been nice to have been told this at the time we paid! The other thing that really annoyed us was at hole 9 a group of four cut in and where slow and goofing around . The Marshals on the course did nothing when we told them. They caused us and the 3 groups behind us to be sitting and waiting to the point we ran out of daylight. The course itself was ok. The guys at the carts where super awesome though. read more

First time at this resort. Let me tell you it's the most amazing place to spend some alone time, time with the special one or the family. Summer time can be a little hot, but you'll get use to it. I heard the winter time is so romantic because you can snuggle in your bungalow. If you play golf they have amazing golf courses. I played at the Mountain course and the greens were amazing and the views were amazing. The background of the resort and golf courses are breathless. Played the Mountain course yesterday, there were large dirt patches on nearly every green, to the point where they were unplayable. I understand it's summer and the heat makes it harder to upkeep the course but it almost felt like there was not even an effort to do so. Not even remotely worth the $100, will not be back again. read more

Positives first. The course was in really good condition. The staff in the restaurant was very friendly. Javier was our server and was really nice and helpful. The only reason we are giving three stars is because the supervisor in the Pro was incredibly unfriendly from the moment we stepped up to the desk. My husband asked about paying a rider fee and she immediately got rude with us and said they had too many reservations and we're not allowing riders. Although she said I could walk for an extra $35 fee. We had called ahead of time to make sure we could get a cart for the two of us. Most of the groups in our 19 person reservation had a rider and no one said a thing. Even folks not in our group had plenty of singles on the course. Not sure why we got such an attitude from the word go but whatever. The course was still worth playing. read more

Challenging course that punishes you for errant tee shots. Bring plenty of balls unless you have PGA tour accuracy. There are some rough areas which are waste areas (hard sand) and long grass (90% chance of lost ball without spotters on the course). Bag service at the curb is an auspicious sign that this will be a great golfing experience. Golf carts have ice chests and water coolers. Drink plenty of water and gatorade as it could get pretty hot out here. Greens - great shape, which means putts roll true - smooth like a pool table Fairways - well manicured and narrow - lined with nice homes on most holes Rough - punishing with plenty of lost balls Water - water didn't come into play much - only private residence pools Driving range - 1st rate - balls and tees supplied - hitting off grass to grass landing area. I played this course a couple of weeks ago... It was really fun, and I enjoyed the natural setting. The layout was exactly what I love about golf. They placed the course against the La Quinta foothills. You have a plush green course contrasted against desert mountains. I had booked the earliest tee time available, due to the increasing heat throughout the day. I arrived only to find their system was having a lot of trouble, even worst, they couldn't find me in their system. The manager/woman graciously made it work, and I was still able to wiggle my way in to the second group out. That by itself was enough to compliment the course employees, all of which were outstanding! If you have played many Pete Dye courses, he typically has ridiculousness large/ or deep/ bunkers and many sneaky challenges...This course is no different. The course was in good condition. Without hesitation, I would love to play it again. read more

I drove 2.5 hours to come play this course, I had a 9AM teatime so I left my home at about 6AM. It was worth the drive, the views are breath taking and the course was in excellent shape. My uncle and I played from the white tees and im not a long hitter (I average about 260 with my driver) but I managed to get around just fine. The greens were faster than anticipated but were in beautiful condition, overall I'd come back here for another round. We had called and made reservations after looking them up on their website. We were just going to use the driving range for the last 2 hours of the day and they wouldn't allow us to use the range because we were in dark denim jeans w/collard shirts and nice blouses. We definitely didn't look casual even though we were in jeans. What makes me upset was that no one told us and we drove out all this way. It didn't mention it in the website that was noticeable for us. I was on the phone for a good 20 minutes finding out all the details because I wanted to surprise my husband. For someone who knows nothing about golf (which was also stated) this is something that should be mentioned to everyone calling for reservations. read more

When checking on at 620am on 4/10/21, the dark haired lady behind the glass(the only one working at the time" started making fun of my friend who is partially deaf. This course is about a 3.75 star affair... An excerpt from my personal Food & Travel blog: They have cool modern desert homes on the course. Possible future retirement residence for us? A noisy "chicken" keeps saying "hello" during Bella's tee shot. Bella thought it was a human whereas I spotted it and was reminded of the passing of my pet "toucan" Cicero this past October. They let their ROUGHS go versus grooming them or intentionally burning them out like the Mission Hills Gary Player course. Some GREENS are sparse and patchy which is inexcusable at this price point, desert locale or not. The greens are very small. The FAIRWAYS are pretty green overall and well maintained. This course is similar to Pete Dye's Dunes Course but not as good on the front 9. Now that we're on the back 9, things are getting a bit more scenic as well as interesting. The mountains in La Quinta really are spectacular to look at. This elevated par 3 is their signature hole for good reason. The Salton Sea is visible from the elevated par 3 between the end of the tree line and the mountains on the left in the distance. This was the last golf hole that peaked (pun intended) my interest. The majority of the holes on this course were simply "okay" or rather ordinary. If this course was better than the Dunes course, it was -- "barely, barely". I really expected more for the price paid. Courses in the Palm Springs area had stunningly well kept and very green fairways about 3-4 years ago or more but we've seen that to be much less common over the past few years. read more

Course is nice so it's a 4 star for the views and cleanliness. However, the pro shop staff was a 1/0 star. We came here on a Monday for a 12:15 tee off and originally I was going to golf too but needed a rental. Note, i've never had to pay more than $40 dollars for a set of rentals and the course to play was $50. The rentals were $85 - absolutely ridiculous so I ended up deciding not to play and just do a ride along. When my bf went back in, the front desk not only gave him grief and threatened him saying if they caught me golfing we would get kicked out but also told him "that's probably best since her shorts aren't exactly our attire" ... note, I was in Lululemon shorts and a perfectly acceptable tank top (not spaghetti strap but an athletic cut). Sorry but maybe this is why you aren't a busy course because you don't know how to treat customers. Won't be recommending this course to any of our fellow golfers. read more

Had a great time at this place till my round was complete. The course was in great shape and pace of play was very reasonable (4.25 hours). I would even rate this place above PGA West Stadium, which I played earlier this week. Everything went great until the end when an absolute jerk of a cart attendant (slicked back mohawk; guy in his late 40's) was rude and sarcastic. Apparently, he got his feelings hurt that I would dare try and park a cart by his station without being given the opportunity to clean my clubs. I was simply returning the cart after dropping my stuff off while waiting for my wife to come pick me up. He saw this and said, "You can go return the cart to the barn," as if I had done something wrong. I then parked it halfway down the hill as I wasn't about to leave all of my personal belongings unsupervised. He then ordered me to go park the cart further down the hill. I said no and wasn't about to leave my items in his care. He then sarcastically mentioned how he would watch them and that is what he does. What an absolute JERK. He truly should not be working at this place. I even saw him mouthing off as I was driving away. He completely ruined the overall experience. All the other staff was friendly, but this guy was a complete punk. I bet others have had similar experiences; maybe even some of his peers. I will return for the course but not if this idiot is around. read more

Played PGA west mountain course Sunday, was a few years since last time. Great course, very scenic and some really nice layouts, one of the best at PGA west. The course was flooded in August 2013 and was severely damaged, the fairways are still recovering so the course is not in the best shape as of April 2014 which lowers my rating. Pro's * About half of the holes are really scenic and challenging, right up against the mountain. Lot of bunkers. * Fantastic greens, championship quality * Great pace, played 18 holes in 3.5 hours Sunday tee off at 12:40. * Very serviced minded staff, friendly and helpful starter. * Good carts, big cooler with water, good GPS system * Got a better rate walking up Sunday noon than online, paid $69 instead of the golfnow.com rate at $79 * Showers in the locker rooms. * Cart lady stopped by often * Lots of greater roadrunner birds on the course, always fun to look at Con's * Current conditions are not the best, grass on fairways still recovering from 2013 flooding, lots of patches with new and old grass mixed. They plan to fix it this summer in June I heard. Currently the fairways are not at the standard you expect from a PGA west course. * Water is low in some water hazards and doesn't look very clean * Some holes on the back nine are between rows of homes, not very scenic. Given the choice between Mountain or links-style Dunes (both sharing the same clubhouse) I would go with the more conventional Mountain almost every time. Both are a treat in their own right but Mountain offers a lot more variety in terms of layouts, elevations, views. Slightly more forgiving imo due to kicks off the Mountains and significantly less rough. One annoyance would be the flies. By the 3rd hole you'll feel like a(n) ***insert African nation of choice*** with a distended belly who doesn't have the willpower to swat them away anymore. Another common sentiment among our group of 20 was the inaccuracy of the in-cart GPS. Seemed to read 10 yards shorter than expected. read more

Full Service Course with all the conveniences one needs and desires while out teeing off. Absolutely breath taking panoramic views. Bring a golf umbrella though, even with some of the finest golf carts in the desert, there is very little SHADE on this course and it is crushing heat for 18 holes. There are cooling stations which are pleasant donning a cafe table, chairs, water and rest rooms at holes 3, 9 and 14 The thick tall grass that lines the fare ways will eat your balls, no matter how bright they might be. Water hazards that will loves to swallow what ever you swing at them. Cadies who are helpful and friendly, ready to assist. This course, taught me a new way to rate courses.... Shade is a most definite factor for the desert. A must experience course for any lover of Golf. Don't forget your SPF 50 sun block and golf sandels read more

Very slow pace of play. Course was in terrible condition in Feb with dead grass and weeds around the greens and most of the rough areas. Greens were OK. Rates are determined by how busy they are the day you play, very weird. Definitely not worth the price or trouble to get there. DATE PLAYED: January 28, 2014 Before you read this review, please keep in mind that I played the PGA West TPC Stadium Course first and the La Quinta Mountain Course was part of my replay. I was actually looking forward to playing this course as a recommendation from a friend. The course layout and conditions were both a big disappointment to me. The tee boxes were good shape, but the fairways where in horrible shape. A lot of the course looked like it was going through renovation with fresh sod recently laid and fairways that for some reason not mowed. The front 9 is just your average course layout which was flat and nothing special. The back 9 was a little more enjoyable as some of holes are surrounded by the mountains. The greens were said to be running 10 on the stimp meter, but I think they were running closer to 8. The staff at the course was okay. Of all the staff, the bag drop off and cart staff were the friendliest. The pro shop staff and starter were average at best. The Marshall was only seen once, but did tell the groups ahead of us the speed up. We finished the round in 4 1/2 hours. OVERALL: I paid only $59 to play this course as part of a PGA West replay rate. For a $59 course, the course is questionable for the value. But if I had to pay $199 which was the regular price green fee, I would be feeling very, very disappointed. I don't think I will be back. I would most likely pay $20 more and replay the Stadium course again. read more

Good course but the starter, who seems endearing at first, was patronizing and condescending. He ended up ruining the first 45 minutes of our round. We showed up to the starters box and he insisted we leave and grab more water after we had already showed him our filled water bottles. Then he rushes us off the tee box. After errant shots, he screams down the fairway to tell us that there is a rule about pace of play in golf - condescension. While he may have meant well, he kept talking; he spent 2 minutes lecturing us (all of us are regular golfers) and thus delaying us even more. While the course was very nice, this put a real damper on the experience. read more

The course is ok with a couple really great holes on the back 9, but the pace of play just sucks. The starter told us they had 2 marshals on the course, "keeping it moving," but we only saw one and he wasn't doing anything, although, he did help one of my partners find a ball. We were told no more than 4-1/2 hours but we were out there for almost 5-1/2. That's way too long in the heat. ESC (Equitable stroke control) needs to be explained to people before they tee off. Depending on your index (handicap,) after 2 or 3 strokes over par you are done. Pick up your ball and move on. No one cares if you made a 9 or a 13 on that par 4, especially not the group behind you. If you didn't make at least a triple bogey, no one cares, no one! That's what keeps the golf course moving. You don't get to stay on the hole until you finish, no matter how long it takes. The problem is that people who understand ESC don't need it and the people who have never heard of ESC are those that need it most. It should be on the scorecards and the gps, if they had gps, there should be a sign on first tee and the started should announce this to everyone, especially the Koreans. This isn't the PGA tour, not even close. It's recreational golf, not a career. Play your best but keep moving. Be proud that you actually finished a hole with triple or less rather than getting super frustrated by making a 10 on a par 3. That can't be fun for anyone. People wonder why golf is waning in popularity, slow play is the main reason. Five to six hours on a golf course is way too long. You should be able to play two rounds in six hours, not one. Another thing people need to know is, YOU ARE NOT HANDCUFFED TO THE GOLF CART! If you're the driver, take your passenger to their ball, drop them off, drive to your ball, they hit, then you hit. As you're hitting they're walking toward the cart, after you hit you pick them up and you're on your way in half the time. I see people parking, waiting for the passenger to hit, the driving to the other ball, and waiting again. This is ridiculously slow. Just because there is a cart doesn't mean you have to be in it every time it moves. You can still walk a little and you should. Keep it moving! It's not that hard and everyone will enjoy golf more without people having to yell, "While we're young!" and "Move on!" or even "WTF are you waiting for!" Finally, let faster groups play through. It only takes a few minutes and everyone is happy. No one likes to be rushed or yelled at, and no one likes yelling profanities at the group ahead. It's not an insult to let someone play through, it's common courtesy. They play at their pace and you can play at yours. Now that I think about it, GPS scoring systems should limit the scores to +3 over par. You punch in 15 for your score on a par 5 and the system records 8. "Hey, this thing won't record anything more than +3 for a hole! I'm just going to stop at +3 since the machine won't record it anyway." I think that might work! 126 should be absolute maximum anyone can shoot on a par 72 course. read more

I was in Palm Springs for 4 days of golf and this was one of the courses that I played. While it was visually stunning and maybe my favorite layout of the courses that I played, it was in HORRIBLE condition. If the layout wasn't so great, I would give it one star. They should discount the rate until they bring it back to proper condition. read more

I'm not understanding any positive hype for this course. The layout is challenging but aesthetically unpleasant. There must be water issues here which is fine. The mountains are a beautiful back drop (hence the Mountain course) BUT when I'm paying $229 green fees I expect the best. On the front nine there were several tee boxes that were uneven... bumpy.....not pleasing to the eye. Kind of less-than- muni-ish. Sad. Sand traps around the greens are very, very inconsistent. Some soft some not enough sand (even after digging in a bit to gauge consistency before a shot). Bottom line, there's hard sand, green side bunkers and soft sand and quite frankly it's hit and miss throughout the course on any given hole. Sad. Did I mention the green fees were $229? I would not play this course again. No value, plain and simple. Bottom line, it looks and plays like a muni. On a positive note, the breakfast sandwich was good. read more

Absolute worst experience at a golf course in our lives. The starter was so rude to us at the first tee box we went back in to the clubhouse and got a refund and left. Very weird experience. I've worked and played on some of the nicest courses in the world and never been treated like that. The first hole starter told us to skip the first hole because he was going to be behind all day and there was literally nobody there and we had come all the way from la. I'm not a mean person but that guy needs to be fired. No reason for the attitude. Looked like it was going to be a fun course though.
