Two of the ladies in our lunch group love La Ristra and convinced the rest of us to go. Unfortunately, this time they were disappointed in their meal, as were a couple of others, which is the only thing holding us back from giving La Ristra five stars. One friend always get a fried egg on top of her enchilada combo plate. I always have to try the tamales, my favorite, and they had a green corn tamale on the menu. I ordered that and an enchilada along with Mexican corn and refried beans as the two sides. Others also stayed with the most common dishes although the menu offered a wider variety than just the usual. We were given chips and three different types of salsas while we waited for our food. All three salsas had too much heat for most of our group. But one lady kept eating the spiciest, the green salsa, until we expected steam to come out of her ears. The chicken tortilla soup got a thumbs up, as did the fajita burrito. The service was excellent. Our server made it fun for the 8 of us, even though we made it harder on her with all of our questions. I loved loved loved the hatch green chili! I lived in New Mexico for 13 years and know what great New Mexican food taste like. I know that the best chili is Hatch chili! This restaurant was delicious . The customer service was pleasant yet unorganized. I had to flag down two additional servers to get what I needed. Everything was good from the service to the food, until the check came. After I reviewed the paper receipt, the server handed me a convenient handheld electronic device. The device screen was set to a page in which I was to choose a gratuity amount. I paused as I took in the screen's view and realized it was automatically highlighted on a 25% tip amount. This seemed a generous assumption, though I typically do tip 20% or more. What I disliked was that it felt as though I was being suckered in to a generous tip rather than being given the chance to offer it myself. See, gratuity, as the word implies, is a form of gratitude. When one asks me for gratitude, I'm less enthusiastic to give it. After the pause, I selected the square with a 20% inside, but I was tempted to choose even less. I'll likely be back because the food was tasty & honestly the service was good. The trio of salsas and endless chips were fresh and provided a perfect amount of heat. Not La Ristra! La Ristra has a big menu, but not to big. What I mean is they are doing lots of good food. Some restaurants have giant menus and it's to much for them and many items suffer. Not La Ristra! They nailed everything we ordered. I was hesitant to order a 'Spring Roll' cause it seemed to be an Asian entree to me, but I like fusion cuisine so I just had to try a Mexican cuisine Spring Roll. And it was very good!! My wife ordered a burrito and I had the Spicy hot pepper covered chicken breast. (Sorrocco's or something like that). We both enjoyed the food. I'd say this is a very repeatable restaurant. Came in for a quick week night dinner. The ambiance was amazing and the food was delicious. The complimentary salsa and chips were nice and spicy. I got the elote (highly recommend) and the blue corn chicken enchiladas with grilled chicken and Christmas sauce (both red and green). Great service and great food. One of my favorite places has now been added to the Top 5 worst meals I've ever ate. We ordered a cheese crisp for an appetizer. When we pulled two slices off, we found it was cold and that the cheese wasn't even melted. You can see that pretty clearly in the picture. Our waiter offered to "try to melt it again." He instead could have replaced it, offered to get us something else, or take it off the bill - we ended up paying for it. Ordered the red pozole as a side, it was merely a flavorless broth with some stuff in it. It took us another 15 minutes to get our check after we finished eating because nobody came around to check on us - and it was a slow night! So disappointed this place has gone downhill! read more

This is one of our regular restaurants. They have a large menu, very tasty, with several gluten free options for one of our kids. Food is good, the staff is attentive and always very good service from the time of arrival. My only complaint is it can get a wee bit crowded with the table to space ratio and can be loud. True New Mexican chile served here in fresh, updated ways. Pick green or red (and I mean blood red like it's supposed to be) chile, you can't go wrong either way. Even the chips are noteworthy, thick enough not to break when you dip them, not greasy or salty. Wait staff is attentive but not overbearing. Drink specials are good. I've only visited the Gilbert location because downtown Chandler restaurants have terrible parking, and have become too crowded and I feel rushed to finish my meal and move on. It was a Friday night and wanted to have some Mexican food. We were around this side of the valley and stopped by for our dinner. As we entered the place was pretty packed and we were asked if we wanted dinning or the bar area. Bar area had live music going on so we chose the dinning area instead. The dinning area was so dull and dim like we entered a midnight set up. There were few people but the whole section lacked eating ambience. However we just settled on to our seats. We ordered mango jalapeño virgin margarita, cucumber margarita, enchiladas, fajitas and a dinner combo. The drinks didn't taste good and tasted like a lemonade there was absolutely no flavor in it. We had to just leave it without drinking. The enchiladas had red and green sauce but the enchilada itself was thick and lacked the taste. It was just alright. Fajitas was the only savior everything was cooked well and was delicious. The dinner combo chicken tacos was not at all impressive. Overall I wouldn't be coming back to this place. We weren't totally happy. The service is great that's why the three star. The price is about $15 a person without the drink. read more

Let me start by saying to check your receipt to ensure you were charged correctly. We have visited several times now and each time we order the ala carte Farmer's Burrito that shows as $9.99 on the menu, we are charged $10.99. We have continuously brought this to the attention of the staff and manager, yet they don't update the menu to reflect $10.99 if that is what it really costs...nor have they updated their computer system to reflect the menu price (seems like a pretty easy fix to me). Makes you wonder how many other items they overcharge for. The food is average; sometimes it's better than others - I'm assuming it depends on who is working the kitchen on that day. The consistency of food really varies, as does the service. We have been here a few times where all listed ingredients on the menu were part of our entree, and other times ingredients were missing. This restaurant could probably be a more solid place if they could get their consistency and service ironed out. read more

The ambiance in the bar area is inviting and has good noise level for conversations as other places can be too loud. Yesterday - Nov 6th our family had a lunch planned for 15 people at 12:30 on the patio. Oddly there were two parties at same time and amount of people. The bar area was much more busier. I had the Farmer's Burrito and my wife had the combination enchilada dish. The tortilla chips were nice and thin and served warm with three levels of hot sauce.
