This is one of our regular spots and we love it. If you you dig southwestern food with kick, you'll get that here. The stacked blue enchiladas are great. Margaritas are great. I would have given five stars, but tonight was not like them at all. All previous times we've been here, the service has been quick and the staff has been incredibly friendly. Tonight, however, we were at our table for 35 minutes with no food. When it came out, it was wrong. But within a minute or so, we had the right dishes. Overall, the food is fantastic. If you're a tequila need, they've got a great selection and you can even have a glass stored there for next time (and the next and the next). We like this place. I'm so sad that we didn't know about this restaurant sooner. We stopped in for an early lunch today and - wow! The service was very attentive, the pre-meal chips and salsa were great and our meals were delicious. I had the Green Chile Asada Burrito with the mashed potatoes and roasted corn and Hubby had a 3-item combo with a beef taco and two cheese enchiladas with mashed potatoes and black beans. Everything was super flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend the roasted corn side - it is not on the cob and has a smoky flavor. So good! We will be revisiting often for sure. read more

I have been coming here since they opened. We have also been to the Chandler location many times. I have probably eaten at the Gilbert location 30 times over the years. Not sure what has happened in recent months, but it has dropped in quality considerably. At first, we gave 5hingscthe benefit of the doubt. Everybody has a bad day, things happen. But, Id say the last six visits have been subpar. Enough to where I told my wife that it's just time to throw the towel in. Lots of good Mexican restaurants, this isn't one of them any longer. Place is clean and nice, waitress was great! Ordered Pazole, the extra hot version. The Pazole tasted like water with dried spices, the pork was very tender but there was no flavor what so ever. The Salsa was good, I think they should put some of the red salsa in the Pazole to give it some flavor. My husband got one cheese enchilada, which was tiny and the cheese inside was cold but his beer was nice and chilled. Got charged $4 for a teaspoon of sour cream - that is ridiculous! Short ribs were okay, but sauce was inedible: bean paste with tomato sauce on top of meat and mashed potatoes?! Beef fajita wasn't impressive as well. Salsas weren't good: one tasted like a cheap chili powder, another was flavorless, the third was tasty but unbearably spicy. Server didn't care much and didn't refill waters. Other waiters were looking at the dining room angrily and arrogantly. I sent the feedback to the restaurant after checking out and crickets. It was our first time there today. The salsa's needed salt. Two people of my party ordered the taco salad. It was so nasty they threw it up on the first bite. The chicken in the salad tasted like it was from a can. We all tried it, and it was definitely canned chicken.. We also had the shrimp ceviche, ... it was all watered down tomatoes and onions with a few small shrimp. The only thing that was positive about the experience was the server. She was very nice and attentive. She apologized for the nasty food and said they were short-staffed with new cooks. This was our first and last time here. Very dirty! My husbands burrito had cheese that never melted that was mixed in with cold meat. Silverware had food on it that they had wrapped in their napkins. Sugar packs were hard from something spilling on it and being left in basket. Health department will be contacted! read more

My wife and I stopped in a couple nights ago. This was our second time here. First was great but this time the food was sub par. My wife had Carne Asada Sliders and I had the 3 Generations Tacos. All three of my tacos tortillas were soaked in juices from the pinto beans. There's nothing worse than eating wet soggy tacos. My wife's weren't as bad but still moist and also fell apart. The ingredients in her tacos were incredible. If you can figure out a way to give us dry tortillas you'd have an excellent plate. read more

This is the best New Mexico style food we've eaten since our last trip to Albuquerque! The chili relleno was absolutely perfect, big fat sweet hatch chili stuffed full of beef and cheese, lightly breaded and fried, and smothered in a rich green chili sauce (you can choose red, green or Christmas). The choice of sides included nicely seasoned black beans. The pintos and the green chili pork were also delicious with beautifully grilled chunks of tender pork. Sopapillos are a nice addition. We stopped for a late carry out lunch and were delighted with the fast service and friendly staff. We intend to make this a regular stop. read more

This was much better than anticipated! For starters, chips n salsa were bomb! You get three different salsas, all spicy and delicious! We each ordered a Cadillac Margarita but used different tequila (his was Don Julio Anejo and I did Peligroso Blanco. Both were very satisfying. Now our entrees were extremely delicious as well. I opted for the quesadilla with steak; so yummy!! Perfectly cooked tortilla and well proportioned throughout. My boyfriend got the Fajitas Burrito- Christmas style with rice and calabacitas. So we tried this place a few months ago but I hate reviewing after 1 meal so I didn't. We liked it so much the second time we realized we were on to something. So now we are staying at home in the midst of the covid 19 pandemic and we want something good to eat. Although we live in Apache Junction we want some La Rista! I love love love me some burro chimichanga style and my husband loooooves the fajita burrito. He drives for 1/2 hr to get it and 1/2 hour home and it's well worth it. We've been going here for a couple years now and the food is fantastic! It's spicy and the meat is cooked to melt in your mouth perfection. I recommend the adovada! If I were to rate la ristra on its food it would get four stars. It's getting a one star for how horrible the service has gotten. We were in last night with nearly no one else in the restaurant and it took 45 minutes to make our fajitas. Additionally the manager and bartender paid no attention to the bar, we couldn't order a second drink as they were sitting in the corner talking to each other. We've been a loyal customer for years with a rewards card. We've notice it has been recently falling apart. I noticed last week the back door was open and a cat in the kitchen! WHAT? I should've made that my last visit but went back anyhow. Big mistake! Anyone who has been going here will notice a high turnover in servers. Last night we went in and when we went to use our LOYAL customer card, which incidentally had $30 in credit, we were told "oh, sorry, we are no longer accepting those, we changed the system." The owner acknowledged that even though we had built up the credit, they would not honor it since there system changed 9 days earlier. WOW. NEVER GOING BACK! This was totally a random find for me as I searched Mexican on yelp and wanted to try something different! I'm so glad I did! It was a weekday and packed to the brim. Always a good sign! They do have happy hour specials although I missed it. The chips and salsa were very good. The chips didn't taste stale or tostitos ish. The salsas were made with fresh ingredients and different Chiles as all of the flavors were unique. The queso con chorizo was hands down, the best queso I have had anywhere!! It had depth to it and different ingredients which made it unique and delicious! I got the combination platter with an enchilada, a tamale, and a taco. I chose different porks and the beef to sample it. Their meats had nice flavors as nothing tasted from the can. The flavor was a bit strong for me with that Chile flavor but I appreciate how fresh tasting it was. They had $20 pitchers of margaritas that day and it tasted watered down but still good. My favorite thing about this place is the kids get to pick a toy out of a chest and they were absolutely thrilled!!! Will definitely visit again! Would highly recommend! read more

Today we had a hankering for Mexican food & had never been to La Ristra, even though we live 2 miles away. So we gave it a shot. VERY impressed! First off, it was pretty crowded at 2pm on a Sunday....which is ALWAYS a good sign. Apparently they offer happy hour specials in the bar area at 2pm, but we opted for the quieter dining area & paid the normal price for the margaritas. Worth every penny! We were greeted by a very friendly, sweet hostess & seated immediately. A server came to our table who was very nice. She explained that MiMi would be our server but that she would get our drink orders & app in right away for us. Really good margarita. I haven't had one in about 10 yrs & I had TWO here today. Excellent service. Chips with 3 different salsas were delivered immediately along with ice waters..... before our cheeks even hit the seats The delicious salsas offer a flavor for everyone. If MiMi is working, please ask to be seated in her section. She was just.....wonderful. So genuinely sweet & kind. Since we had never been here, we had a few questions. She answered us thoroughly & was very knowledgeable & patient with us. And super attentive. She is a really wonderful asset to the La Ristra team. Thank you, Mimi! Also, the bussers were very attentive. I made random eye contact with one at the end of our meal & he asked if we were ok & if we needed anything. Very impressive. Now to the food. The margaritas...divine! The elote app.... diviner! The main course, divinest! My husband had the green plate with chicken. Sides were black beans & cilantro lime rice. He raved. I had the stacked enchiladas with sides of spanish rice & that thing with zuchinni & veggies with cheese on top. Incredible. Whatever they flavor their chicken with.....I dunno? ....it's like crack! My family and I were exploring Gilbert and hunting for a unique restaurant and thankfully we came across this hidden gem while looking through local restaurants on yelp. I have had plenty of good (and bad) Mexican food. La Ristra enlightened us to what New Mexican food is. Starting with the complimentary large basket of warm tortilla chips with three different salsas and we were all literally craving more as we struggled to commit to menu item for lunch. I ordered the Traditional New Mexican Burrito plate - with steak, Christmas salsa, rice, and calabacitas. My fiancée got steak fajitas with a double portion of calabacitas (must be a good sign that I'm salivating at the very thought of it all:) The flavors of the food here are what will makes us come back. The excellent service by Marc and the rest of the crew made us feel welcome and like true guests of honor- not an easy thing to pull off when you have a 2year old dining as well! Our little one loved the chips with the mild brown salsa and loved her toy prize that Marc let her pick out on the way out. Safe to say this place left a lasting impression on us all! read more

I've only been here twice but it hasn't disappointed yet. The first time I came for a family dinner and had the stuffed sopapillas with shredded beef - very good. Dessert made a friend and I come back again. I got the choco taco the first time. We came back - got drinks $18 margarita pitchers on Wednesday's that don't skimp in the tequila. My family & I have been coming here basically every Friday night for the past couple months & have never been disappointed! We cruise over on our bikes & settle in at a table in the bar area where we're able to enjoy some live music, great drinks, delicious food, & phenomenal service. The live music is always on point, the band plays some awesome songs that really get everyone singin & even dancin! Such a fun atmosphere. We're always greeted with some chips & a salsa trio upon sitting down - who doesn't love that? Then onto the drinks. My go-to drink is the frozen coconut margarita - highly recommend!! It's definitely one of the things I look forward to most as we head over on Fridays. We snag ourselves some queso - sometimes we order two bc it's so good - & a cheese crisp (with added green chili, jalapeños, or both) & it seriously hits the spot. Definitely beats all other cheese crisps from other Mexican restaurants I've been to - it's actually crispy!!! Our service is never short of amazing, especially with Loren as our server!! He's been our server multiple times lately, as he is one of the main servers in the bar area. He's the kind of server that never stops circulating & will appear with a new basket of chips & salsa right before we run out. We tend to eat a lot of chips & salsa, so the fact that he can keep up with us is seriously amazing. Both times I've gotten a chicken fajita burrito with Christmas sauce (order on the side, the green sauce can be a little spicy!). The calabacitas are a must-try! Fresh, warm chips (both yellow and blue corn), three different salsas, all of which were as flavorful and spicy as I demand. We each ordered our burritos al a carte. They were AMAZING!!! I can't stand when most Mexican restaurants take short cuts by stuffing the burrito with rice & beans and maybe a spoonful of meat. La Ristra does not do that. Let me tell you, our burritos were NOT lacking in the meat department, plus they had SO many levels of flavor and spice my eyes were rolling back in my head with each bite. The Hatch green chilis they use are unbelievably tasty and spicy! THIS was what I expected from good Mexican and it did not disappoint. Our only complaint was with the Queso dip we ordered as an appetizer. It was lack luster in flavor. For $6.99 I would have expected better. And, our server didn't have a lot of personality. She never smiled and seemed that perhaps she was not having a good day. That however, didn't mean the service was bad, I just think she needs to be a bit more enthusiastic about her job since she is in the food service industry.
