I accidentally forgot my leftover box & circled back to see if it was still there & the waitress had put it by the front podium for me (just in case I came back!) sweet! Poor service- reservation was at 8, but by the time they served us it was 9:30! Plus, we were seated before a guest beside us but they were served first. Honestly this place has been a staple for my family for years. It's spacious enough for my disabled grandma to come here with her wheelchair and they always have enough space for our large 10+ people parties. My family loves ordering the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce but I personally feel their menu has enough variety to try something new each time. We also especially love the creamy polenta. Since restaurants in Napa close super early, this place allows us to have dinner a little later than other places in the area. The food used to be excellent. The only thing great was the bread. Balsamic dressing on the salad was not balsamic. It was a creamy....something. Good, but not balsamic. My husband ordered the rib eye medium rare which came rare...borderline raw. I order the special which was mussels, clams, salmon, scallops and calamari over linguini with a white wine garlic sauce. ALL of the seafood was overcooked. The salmon was dry, the scallops were not seared and overcooked, the shellfish were overcooked and the sauce was a broth not a sauce. The linguini was cooked well but the sauce ended up in the bottom of the bowl it was served in not sticking to the pasta. We have been here many times over the last decade and I can't say we've had an unpleasant experience more than once. What I will say is that it's very pricy for the location and circa 1990 ambiance. If you want protein on your basic pasta dish ($22) it will cost you $8 for chicken, $5 per scallop, $2.50 per shrimp. A menu priced out like this is a huge turn off, just make a dish and price it out. When it more than doubles the entree cost ($42) to add 4 scallops you need to step back and rethink your order. But La Strada is always there, it's very predictable. The dining room's 90's wallpaper and fake ivy decor is quite dusty and needs to go, hopefully the owner will take it upon themselves to shake the dust off or call up one of those shows that does it for you with a fancy famous chef that also looks at your outdated menu and gives the kitchen a once over as well! read more

This place was a nice little gem that we found on our drive to Napa. It is a huge restaurant and wasn't overly busy when we arrived. The bread and olive oil dip is heavenly. Different types of bread was provided, but the olive oil with herbs had the perfect amount of flavor that kept you coming back for more. Ordered a Caesar salad that was great and obviously enjoyed the bread alongside it. We started with the crostini, which in my opinion was a tad salty due to the cheese and prosciutto. For some, it might be perfect. We didn't necessarily need to order it since we did already have the bread/oil combo. But alas, carbs! We shared the crab ravioli and let me tell you, the sauce was savory, creamy, and undeniably tasty. The cream paired with our second round of bread was heavenly. The ravioli was jam packed with crab/seasoning and was well complimented with the sauce. The ravioli itself was quite thick, which I didn't love, but obviously overlooked it due to how great the sauce was. If you're around and looking for plenty of options or crab ravioli, I recommend this place. read more

Late post. First time here. Came here for dinner before heading back home after a long day in Napa. Cute little place. It was pretty quiet when we arrived. Service was great. Waiter came by often to topped our glasses with water without us having to wave them down. The free bread and butter was soft and warm. Loved my pesto dish. I added chicken. The lasagna was pretty yummy and a good portion size. Family members enjoyed their seafood plates. We enjoyed our time and dinner here. Tonight I ordered the sampler (not pictured), a glass of pinot noir, the fettuccine alfredo, and the bread pudding! All were super yummy and very filling! The sampler included mozzarella caprese, calamari, and bruschetta. The service was also pretty quick and friendly. The scenery in the restaurant is also immaculate, especially during Christmas time! They have so many beautiful decorations and a giant Christmas tree. My family always comes to this restaurant when we're craving old school Italian food, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try it! read more

So glad I discovered this classic Italian American restaurant reminiscent of my old favorite - Francesco's - that closed after decades of serving the Oakland Airport vicinity. La Strada's ambiance is thoroughly warm and inviting Italian, a great place to relax. The complimentary basket of warm breads, focaccia and French, was delivered promptly and tasted homemade with an irresistible garlicky herb dipping oil. I was fortunate to order prawns and scallops sautéed with fresh mushrooms in an aromatic sauce with just a hint of Marsala. The sides were creamy polenta and mixed vegetables perfectly cooked. My husband opted for minestrone soup and the crab Louie salad. The large salad stood out, well proportioned amounts of body meat (sorry, no legs) creamy dressing and crisp lettuce. We celebrated our Anniversary here again in February and I have to comment on some things that I noticed were changed for the better. The last few times we were here last year, the polenta was good but not as creamy and wasn't white, like it used to be, also they served those " baby" carrots that I'm not fond of with the mixed vegetables. The Parmesan they offered for your salad and your main course was not freshly grated ...well I was SO happy when we dined here last, the polenta was white and deliciously creamy and perfect, I had fresh cut carrots in my mixed vegetables and the waiter added freshly grated Parmesan to our salad and main course...he grated it at our table like in the past. I had the eggplant Parmesan and it was delicious as always...my husband had the Linguine con gamberetti...it was also delicious and the bread was fresh and warm. Can't wait to go back! 3.5 star. Good 'standard' Italian food in an unexpected location. Better than you would get at most pizza shops. Vibe is cool. Reminds me of coming in on a burningman camp with lots of lights and decorations in the middle of nowhere - minus the 29 freeway. As far as the food goes, I would rate it a 3.5 star if I could, because of lack of available options nearby. la Strada is a conservative notch or two down from places like like Barzotto(Mission), Delfina(Dolores), Allegria(NAPA), TIHMC(Hayes Valley), etc. At Strada, you're just not going to get the sort of preparation and freshly made pasta, as you would as these aforementioned places. The options at La Strada are standard NY pizza-shop like. Typical American-known Italian. La Strada is on par with Venticellos in Benecia. What sets La Strada apart is the marinara sauce is more San Marzano-like, which puts it at a 0.2 star above Venticellos. imo. Though the meatballs from La Strada were over cooked or maybe too much sausage, which I'm ignoring in this review. SUGGESTIONS(if your anything like my Italian mother you will kick these out the door, but here they are anyway): ***Steer away from the 'pizza shop'-like tortelini with peas, ham, and generic cream sauce. I can get a similar quality dish from many local pizza shops. There are many other options available that are far better and far more suited for a classy Italian restaurant. Just search: tortellini in Italy and look at the images. Or better yet, switch to a fresh tortelloni to really stand out in the area. ***Check out the spaghetti and meatballs at Barzoto(Valencia and 24th) and reverse engineer the sauce a bit along with the meatballs. You can leave out the Calabrian, but I personally would prefer you did not. ****Get french fries off your menu. Maybe put it on the kids menu, but it should not be any where near the adult menu. Replace it with something like 'Arancine'. read more

We were excited to celebrate our niece's 8th grade promotion at La Strada. We had a large group and they were easily able to accommodate us. With the opening up of restaurants (after the pandemic), the friendly service was slow as the restaurant was understaffed. But we were happy to be dining out so no worries. Unfortunately, we were not so forgiving with the food. Three of us ordered eggplant parmigiana and all were undercooked. The lasagna had too much meat and not enough noodles. The scampi was skimpy on the portions. The kids liked the chicken parm, pizza, spaghetti and meatballs. Of the 14 of us, only about half were happy with their order. To top it off, it wasn't exactly cheap. So I kinda expect better tasting food when paying the higher prices. So I most likely won't go back. And if I do, I'll stick with the more common/popular dishes. read more

What happened to La Estrada? This has been a go to for our family for years. The calamari came out and tasted like lightly fried rubber bands. No flavor and extremely over cooked. In addition, it took 1.5 hours to get the food after ordering. Once food came, almost every single person at our table complained of no flavor, bland food. Service started out nice. It wasn't busy and we were sat quickly. We started with wine and bread was brought out. Food orders were taken and not long after arrived. I ordered the crab ravioli, with help from the waiter to choose. You get four large ravioli in thick cream sauce. Very American-style. The ravioli was not rolled thin enough, so it was quite thick. The crab inside was good. My sister ordered the veal, with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The veal seemed over-cooked, and chewy. Mashed potatoes were grainy and needed a bit more seasoning. Vegetables were well seasoned and nice. I gave two ravioli to my sister as the veal wasn't to her liking and I was already full from the two I'd eaten. We had a shared Cesar salad which was fairly basic for the $14 you're charged. Our concierge at our hotel had referred us to the restaurant and given us a 10% off coupon. After the waitress had given us the bill, we asked if it was okay to use it and she agreed. When the bill was brought back, it looked more expensive. That's when we realized she had given the discount, but had also added a 20% gratuity to the bill that wasn't there before. I would say that put a bit of a sour note on the night. As aside from the food, the ambience and relaxed vibe of the restaurant had put us into a good mood. The original bill was less than $100 and we had already planned a 20%+ tip. I've never seen gratuity added to a 2-person bill. Ruined a bit of the night. She ended up tipping herself less than we were going to give her. And overall just a bad precedent to set. read more

I started going to Lastrada's the first week it opened in San Pablo, California. The food has always been excellent and consistent all the years I've been going there. Then they open the one in American Canyon. They both have a beautiful setting inside. My favorite at both restaurants is the seafood linguine, it's the best I've ever had. Both restaurants have seating for large parties too. Martino and Adriono do a great job hosting the guest. I think everyone should try it once and then they'll be hooked. read more

I've lived in the area for over 20 years and this was the first time I've been here. It was a pleasant surprise. We were seated promptly and were immediately given their bread basket, it was focaccia (I think) and French bread. Really tasty, could've been warmer but that's ok. I then noticed the oil to dip the bread in and wow, that garlic olive oil was soooo yummy! Really enjoyed that. We started with fried calamari and they gave big portions. It was really good. My only thing, I prefer my calamari to be a lil more fried but the cocktail sauce made up for it. I ordered the Pasta Pesto, my husband ordered the Beef Ravioli, Pizza di Carne got the kids and another family member got the Chicken Alfredo. Where to begin....the Beef Ravioli, my husband would not stop raving about it and I have to agree, it was delicious. The yummy tomato sauce, creaminess from the ravioli just made this a dish to come back for. The pizza was enjoyable for the kids, nice chewy crust and the taste of the tomato sauce was good. My dish, the pasta pesto, was decent, I was expecting a lil more flavor, maybe a hint more salt and it would've been perfect. The Fettuccini Alfredo was enjoyed and not dry, something a lot of other restaurants have a problem with. Lastly, we had tiramisu dessert and wow, these were amazing!!! Gotta try. We went to LA Strada for our 43rd anniversary on October 20th. Overall a good experience. Heather took good care of us. What was disappointing was the french onion soup. It was a greasy tasteless broth with chopped boiled onions. Should have been sliced and carmelized. Salt improved the taste slightly. Not happy. We both ordered the seafood risotto. Was not risotto. Long grain rice instead of arborio rice. It was served with liquid pooling around it. On the plus side the seafood was cooked perfectly. It was a decent rice dish but not risotto expected from an Italian restaurant. I expressed my complaint on their website but received no reply. Very disappointed read more
