Had their steak burrito and it was rather good for a surburban mexican joint. I believe they state they use skirt steak but i was not able to tell if it was since its chopped up pretty finely. Would be nice if it was more beef chunks for the texture. Has some tacos on Taco Tuesday. Just as good but meat portions were inconsistent from each tacos. Their pork, which other taco joints would call al pastor is called Bamba. Flavors are great but again texture could be a bit more improved for my palate by having bigger chunks of meat. VERY busy during the week at lunch time! Pregnant and starving I came here for lunch. The reviews seemed to be well favored compared to others in the area, so I thought I'd give it a try. Unlike any other Mexican Restaurant I've ordered from. For one I was expecting the traditional steak tacos - thin, lightly filled, easily roll up. This was not so. My tacos were filled generously with steak, onion, and cilantro - I always add fresh avocado to mine. Here they offered me guacamole and it was delicious. I ordered four tacos - could've easily just ordered two! On the bright side I have two stashed for lunch tomorrow. My steak wasn't dry or chewy (as can be the case at some establishments) - it was moist, flavorful - the hot sauce they gave me was divine. I liked both so I used both in my tacos. The kitchen is clean, staff friendly, prices exceptional. LOL I think my only complaint would be the staunchly business men from the area! Despite being obviously pregnant I had a handful of them push past my pregnant belly without so much as a word. Highly recommend this place, can't wait to try their other selections! read more

So economical! Love their tacos, tortas, guacamole and homemade flan. My favorite fillings are Asada (steak), Bomba(pork, ham, chorizo, pineapple, salsa), and Chorizo Papa (chorizo and potato). They have daily specials, too. read more

Food is above average but the service and overall cleanliness of the restaurant is pretty lousy. Every time we ate here we saw food all over the floor and even had to wipe our own tables down from leftover sauces and stains. My buddy and I went there on lunch on Apr 11 and called ahead so we could pick up the food and not wait. We got there and they lost the order. The casher then proceeded to read everyone else's order in case I didn't know my own name. I assured her I ordered one steak burrito and three tacos. Not one vegetarian taco salad. My buddy convinced me to come back today, Apr 12 and called ahead again. This time one steak and one bomba burrito. When we got the order the items were labelled bomba and steak but they messed up and switched what was inside the wrappers so we ate the wrong orders. Excellent authentic Mexican restaurant in Northbrook!! We came here on a Tuesday and was delighted to find that it was "Taco Tuesday" ($1 tacos). What a great deal! My husband and I ordered the chips and guac ($3 mmmm), 4 tacos, horchata, and a can of pop and we were comfortably full for about $10! I noticed everyone else eating at least 3-4 tacos each so I felt maybe we under ordered but by the time we finished eating, we were full too. I got the bomba and tinga and my husband got the tinga and pollo. The tinga was quite spicy and had the smokey chipotle flavor that I don't really like. Of the 2 I ordered, I prefered the bomba. The horchata was great too, already prepared, you just grab a cup from the fridge. I did not see one of those drink dispensers that are forever mixing the drinks, so I believe these are "fresher". The horchata was not too sweet, which I really appreciate. Oh, and the guac was very good as well! We will definitely come back here. Also, we came around 11am and there was a small line and a few tables available. By noon the line was out the door and no more tables unless you wait. Parking lot was quite a mess and it was very difficult to get out of our spot and the lot because of the shape of the lot and cars trying to enter from the street. I just recently started getting into more of the authentic tacos and I usually go to El Patron but lately I've been getting major cravings and I since I live in the suburbs, I can't go all the way there every time I get a craving. This place is right by where I live so I decided to give it a try. I've only gotten the steak tacos and it's pretty decent but I felt like meat was cut a little strange? Like the consistency of it? 4 Star for the food, 1 Star for service/cleanliness so giving it 2.5 Star! If you just care about the food and don't care about the crappy attitude and service (or lack there of), this place is fine! Ordered 10 Tacos and a bag of chips on Taco Tuesday, paid for the order. Went back to the table and realized that I forgot to order a side of Sour Cream ($0.35). I asked for it, the lady rang it up and I gave the credit card. Lady said, $5 min on card and I reminded her that this isn't the only thing I got, I just purchased 10 tacos and a bag of chips and I was told it doesn't matter, each swipe needs to be $5 minimum. If I had cash, this wouldn't be an issue as I would have paid with cash in the first place but I did not. I said nevermind (wasn't about to order another $5 of food to get a sour cream) and was walking away when the guy behind me asked the Cashier if she's serious. She said that's our policy, look here. He said with all due respect, this isn't how you treat customers and asked the lady to give me Sour Cream and charge him for it. Normal restaurant with a minimum charge requirement normally would make an exception that was just adding to a previous order and swipe the card or given the cost is just $0.35, may just let the customer have it but not here! Got the food and 4 tacos were crammed in a small basket. I wanted to eat the chips with the salsa they have available for their dine in guests in squeeze bottles. I asked for a small cup to put the salsa in to dip my chips and was told I can't get one. I would have to buy the salsa for that. No thank you, I am not going to pay for the salsa you have available for dine in guests for free just to get a cup to dip it in. As someone that goes to this place regularly, this left a bad taste. PS - Weather outside was about 30 degrees and inside the restaurant didn't seem a whole lot warmer, maybe 60's. Everyone sitting there was sitting with their winter jackets/beanies on. read more

My household usually takes advantage of taco tuesdays ($1 tacos) since we live near here. The bomba and asada tacos are small yet tasty. It comes with a couple hot sauces (red - spicy and green - milder), which can be added to the tacos for additional flavor. If you're not in the mood for tacos, I would recommend the bomba torta or milanesa torta (breaded chicken - off menu item). Disappointed, we have heard some good things about this place so we tried it last night. The food was cold and bland. We tried the tacos, the burritos and the quesadilla, all of it was bland, the chicken was the worst. The corn tortillas for the tacos were rubbery like they had been heated in a microwave. We ate maybe half and threw the rest away. The worst part was at 5 am the next morning everyone in my house was awake and sick and running to the bathroom. Not quite sure at this point if we have food poisoning but still pretty sick. The only way I would ever eat here again is if I needed a cleanse. This is not fresh authentic mexican food, it is gross reheated crap. read more

It's a very small hole-in-the-wall that is nicely decorated inside. They don't have a lot on their menu but the options are fantastic. I got one taco and a toastada. I don't think I've ever had better Mexican food, seriously. As someone who practically lives off mexican food, I can't believe such a great restaurant went under my radar for so long. Just 2 weeks ago me and my friend were trying to find somewhere new to eat, and we decided to try La Taquiza (next to the chinese restaurant I also love). The atmosphere is cozy, nothing too upscale, which gives it a really welcoming feeling. The family that owns the place, and the employees couldn't be friendlier. I usually order the Bomba Torta and a drink (one of the fresh juices they have in the little fridge), and it's perfect every time. I've been there 12 times in the last 2 weeks, I think I might be addicted! This is food done right. Great atmosphere, amazing prices (Why get a mediocre buritto from Chipotle for nearly twice the price of a perfect burrito from La Taquiza). This place was my favorite at least once a week since they opened. But the last few times I came in to take home a couple steak burritos, I asked for an extra salsa for each one. I was told that you get 2 tiny containers for each burrito and there would be an additional charge for each extra container. Really??? Great customer service! Stopped here because I was in the area for a training. I have had way way better food. I am so disappointed! The chicken taco had no flavor and I asked for sour cream and got just a penny sized amount. The steak taco had flavor but again I have had much better. The chips aren't homemade and you can purchase them at Walmart. The guacamole had no flavor just bland! The red sauce and green sauce no flavor! It's like a Mexican spot full of bland diet type food. Such a waste. I could have went to Taco Bell and gotten better tasting food. Won't ever be back!
